Thanks Paul,

I can't take credit for building the little wooden train...as it was gifted to me. It was made/dated in the 70's. I think it looks like it belongs in Castle Canyon and since it fits the track, I snapped the pics...Smile [:)]

Trust me, you don't want to start another Never ending story here. We used to have one about two or three years ago, and it ran pretty well and for something like 247 pages. But it eventually got out of control and no longer served it's purpose, and so Bergie locked it. I definately would't start one again. That idea was thrown around a lot after the first one was closed, and it causes a little controversy....

Boy, even the words "never ending story" bring back a lot of memories of time gone by here on the forum. Hard to believe it's been as long as it has since that thread was locked, and the amount of current forum participants that remember it (and the DOS thread) sure has shrunk. Sigh [sigh]

Well this has been a trying afternoon on the computer. Two posts that I was doing on word were lost. A box came on that the program had timed out and boom it was gone.

So I'll try once more.

Perry: Nice pictures. I like that little teakettle that you built.

Duce: Good to see you back. I'll bet you can't wait for the little one to get big enough to take the throttle.

Ryan: Send me your E-mail address. Mine is " thebeverungs@peoplepc.com. I'll send you the pictures.

The thunderstorms last night dropped a bunch of rain before turning to sleet and this morning to snow. Not much of an accumulation but tonight it's supposed to get very cold so everything will turn to ice.

OK, I'm going to try and get this posted before it goes Poof.

Well I guess I beat the Pooffers. I'll see you all later. Now since it's too messy to do anything outside I'll have to go to the basement and the MRR. Tough hu?

Edit; I see that they have changed the post reply thinge. So what are you supposed to do for the giffs? I enjoyed being able to use them. I guess I'll have to figure out the new tool bar but it's such a bother when I had just  gotten used to the old system.

We've got some mighty cold weather here in the Phoenix valley this week. It's time to stay inside and run trains until the outside temperature goes back above 60!

How's this?

South African Melktert or Milk Tart is a variaton of an egg custard pie which originated with the Dutch settlers who came South Africa in 1652
Melktert was then modified and made a purely South African creation by the Cape Malays who were brought to South Africa as slaves

INGREDIENTS
    ½ lb puff pastry
    1 ½ tsp butter
    good pinch salt
    1 stick cinnamon
    3 cups boiling milk
    2 tsp custard powder
    3 tsp corn flour
    3 tsp cake flour
    2 tbsp cold milk
    ½ cup sugar
    4 large eggs, separated
    ½ tsp almond essence
    cinnamon and sugar
Melktert a traditional South African Custard Pie Recipe
    METHOD

    Preheat oven to 400o F

Line the bottom and sides of two pie plates with the puff pastry and make a raised edge for each.
To make the custard pie filling, add the butter, salt and cinnamon to the boiling milk.
Mix the custard powder, corn flour and cake flour to a paste with the cold milk and then stir in a little of the hot milk mixture.
Stir the custard mixture into the hot milk. Add 4 tbsp of the sugar and bring to the boil, stirring continuously.
Remove from the stove when the mixture has thickened and discard the cinnamon.

Beat the egg whites until stiff but not dry. Gradually beat in the remaining sugar.
Beat the egg yolks lightly and add a little of the custard mixture to the egg yolks.
Then stir the yolk / custard mixture into the main custard mixture and add the almond extract.

Fold in the egg whites, being careful not to beat but add with a gentle folding motion.

Pour the mixture into the pastry cases and bake for approximately 10 minutes.
Lower the temperature to 350o F and bake for a further 10 to 15 minutes or until the filling has set.

Cool slightly and sprinkle the top of the custard pie with cinnamon and sugar.

    Serve cold.

South African farm wives compete with each other regarding the reputation of their custard pie or 'melktert'

Coffee and a fresh doughnut please, Chloe!

Did you notice that the posting box and code is more user friendly now. Thanks MR Forum dudes, err.. Bergie!

Ben assisted me in getting the remaining Christmas lights up on the front of the house last night. We had to throw out three strings that were half blown out, so might have to get a few more to fill in some places. And all this was done in my shorts and a T-shirt too. But the cold temps are supposed to be heading this way soon.

Dick, thanks for the Registry hack tips for Windows OS! I have done so many Registry hacks I can't even count them all. The swap file one is a real power boost, especially if you have a second partition on the same drive, like having a C: and a D: partition, just move the swap file to D:. Sometimes I have set up PC's with two swap files, one on each drive.

And I like your idea about using Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, it goes nice with hot spiced apple cider too, I call that a spicy version of a "Hot Toddy", which is typically made with whiskey, lemon juice and hot water.

Sorry about the pie thing.  We should have told him it was all gone before it really was!  It was just, well, I'd never seen anything like that!  Those pies didn't stand a chance!  Anyways, I picked up a couple on the way in this morning so you have a choice, Dutch Apple or Pecan.

WATCH HIM!?!  I've never seen anything like it!  I was in awe!  I've never seen a man eat like that!  His hands and his lower jaw were just a blur!  I thought the countertop might be in danger and I warned Zoe not to get her hands too close, so she just slid the pies to him down the counter.  She said he left a good tip though!

Inch, glad to hear of the homecomming!  Been praying for Becky for a while.

Well, the nasty weather is heading this way!

So what's up with you guys today?

Good evening gents, a balmy 50F right now at 11:37pm on November 29th....the normal should be about 28F. But just wait, by Friday when that big cold wave sweeps east, Winter will begin. In fact, the weather forecasters are very concerned about Monday, as we could get a big Nor'easter, the computer models are in conflict.
We got back froma day long trip to Woodstock and Putnam CT late this afternoon, no HS's anywhere down there..RATS !!! The girls had a great time in all the stores but us guys were without any trains.

CHUCK & KATHY: Snow on the beaches of Oregon huh...........well you have two choices:
1. Go out and buy this thing called a "snow Shovel". It has a long handle and a working end that is about 18" wide and flat across the end. They come in either plastic or metal, and spraying PAM on the blade makes the snow slide off better.

2. Sit by the woodstove with a pot of hot coffee brewing, or hot cider with a touch of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum in it, and reading a book ( MRR of course ), and wait for the snow to melt.

I advise choice #2 Chuck !!

MIKE: I am happy to hear that Becky is back home, that must be quite a relief for your family. How is mom's trip going?

DUKE: GOOD Lord!!!!!!!! All the pie is GONE ???? RYAN and JEFF....can't you watch this man for ONE HOUR in the CS ????

CAPE JIM: Get ready for your own snow Jim, Winter is one cold breath away for the Cape!!! I'm dreaming of a White Christmas.......just like the ones I used to know......

Bon soir,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! evenin  all, a barley pop Zoe,

Good news, Becky came home today, and she's happy to be in her on bed again. Beck still has therapy a couple times a week, but she's home. I'm happy cause I won't have kids under foot every day now.

Talked to Mother, she be enjoying herself in Florida. Now we're hoping this bad weather will be through Indy by the time she flies in Fri.

Glad ya'll enjoyed the sunrise pics. I get to see alot of them from the train room window. I think the best sunrise I ever seen was from 35,000 ft. from the boom pod on a KC-135. Wish I'd had a camera then. And then there the ones I remmber as a kid, seeing them through the barn door while pulling teets on the milk cow.

DUCE,,, good to have ya back and glad that boy's a doing good. He'll be up an helping the the layout soon afore ya know it. What are ya doing for the railroad out there.

No train time yet, since Mothers been gone, but plan on some tommorrow. Heathers running me over to the bank, so I can deposit Mothers check and then my time comes to play for awhile. Best get a move on catch ya'll laters
