Back off to work. Will be back on Thursday and then a bit of home time before the summer nightmare kicks in.[V]

This week I am going to overnight in New Orleans. I have flown in there many times since Katrina but this will be the first overnight. I sure it won't be fun. We only get 11 hours there and if it is anything like Gulfport the hotel, will be just one step above uninhabitable. Still, it should be interesting to see.

To be honest, I would not know what a Route 15 PCC was if it tapped me on the shoulder and said "Hi". [*^_^*] I will need to get back over to 30h Street and take some pictures providing it is allowed. Amtrak is still a bit jumping after 9/11. I don't think they mind me taking pictures of individual locos and cars but I sure there are some security stuff they would not like seen. The airlines and the FAA have had the same issues with people who take pictures of aircraft.

Not much going on in my life... pretty dull across the board. I did manage to catch an NS SD70M leading an empty hopper train long hood forward... stranger yet the third unit (another SD70M) was short-hood forward. (They were sandwiching a C40-9W by the way)

Evening all...I'll have coffee and a Krispy Kream please...Not any train time today went to a birthday party for Skeeter one of the grandbabys in the park in Robinson also took a tote of left over track a few cars and a couple of engines and some MRs and RMC 's by my son Andys he has 10 by 10 building in his back yard cleaned out and bench work up for N scale layout..He salvaged the lumber from a hanger at the airport where he works that was taken down in a recent storm He said he has about 6 bucks in bench work...It will also have a work bench and spray booth where I can use my air brush again...

Duke...I have my picture taken in the trottle of the big boy..They called it the St. Louis museum of Transport back then..They had a lot of stuff and you could get very close to most of it...

PC..lots of fluids and rest..Take it easy...

Hi Gang: Not much since this afternoon. I found out that Terry McCauly's locomotive needs a new boiler. I'm going to talk to him tomorrow and see if he wants to build two, I'll buy the stuff. That's how we did the locomotives.

As for mine I need to get a new valve for the gauge glass. The one on it is leaking. I also am going to get a couple of new Kunkle safty valves and a spare injector. Only about $500 worth. No more 2-10-2s for awhile.

PC: Take it easy for a couple of days. Duke will take care of things for a while.

I finally got to ride today. I caught the last train and had a good ride. The only thing is we have got to do something about the seating arrangements. A 2x12 across the sides of a gondola is kind of uncomfortable on a long ride.

Well I think that I'll check my E-mail and go to bed.

Well the flea market went okay I guess it was busy but all the venders were saying nobody's buying well I sold what I had left (about $250.00 worth) to a vendor for $100.00 (no trains) it beat repacking it all up.

plans got change for the day, #1 son called and wanted us to go for breakfast[ he was buying] in Terre Haute, of course we said yes. Mother wanted to go to the mall afterwards, which didn't open for another hour, so we went rail fanning. we had Kc n Leroy for awhile this afternoon, after they left we got Kc back. Leroy fell at home and had to have a couple staples in his head. He's OK now, just sore and a headache. Still trying for some train time today, think I'll get a little now. Prayers for all in need

Evening all

Had a nice ride today but a little on the cool side,48-50 degrees with a good stiff NW wind at about 25mph. It was all back roads and most of the time with a tree line to help break the wind. We went up to Durand for train days but there weren’t any trains,I think it has turned into a carnival and that’s it. There is a good restaurant there and I had a steak sandwich,so Chloe how about one of those big Rootbeer floats for desert,please.

Ed One of the guys that I ride with went to Branson for vacation and they stopped at the Museum of Trans. in St. Louis and they have a Big Boy as well. He said he was able to get up close to it and you could also get up in the cab. I told him that you were able to get up close to one as well and I was a little jealous of the two of you.

Well that’s about it and best to all that are on sick call[angel][angel][angel]

Paul I think this page will be on me and PC gets a reprieve as well.

No train pics because the trains would pass by before I could get in position for a good shot. But the day will come when I'll get the good picture.

The Preakness winner was Bernardini. The King of Dubai owns him. Could have won whether or not Barbaro got hurt. Just heard on the local news that Barbaro's chances are slim. Three fractures and lots of soft tissue damage. Still in surgery!! (hour #3) If he wasn't the Derby winner I sure he would have been put down by now.

I guess I'm not the normal ex-Chicagoian, I'm a White Sox fan. Probably because Jack Brickhouse turned me off to the Cubs. On the other hand, Harry Carey and Jimmy Piersall made a losing team fun to watch.

We had some rain this morning (just enough for that off-and-on setting on the car wipers), but it has quit now. For lunch, I went to a local Mexican restaurant (says on their menus that they're "family owned and operated", but I didn't see if they meant Mexican or other kind of "family"... I'll guess Mexican and hope they're not related to Vito and Vinnie here. [:O] Had the chicken burrito grande, which was pretty good - but not as good as your food here, Zoe, of course! Whew! Hope Vito and Vinnie weren't in earshot about that 'family' thing...)

Saw that some other nice buildings on eBay (like the one I mentioned earlier that I won) didn't sell and are relisted. The price might be a fair bargain (since the original hydrocal-cast models run into the $80-150 range), but they're just too rich for my blood. I'm not that sophisticated, I suppose. Maybe others aren't either, judging from the other items that were relisted (some were plastic/injection-molded versions and some were hydrocal) and originally listed with higher starting prices (like as much as $82.00).

Morning All: I'm here at work again. I just got in from turning on the park. I had to fix the steam enging in gold river this morning. The mount for the electric motor that runs it came loose and the chain came off. That took about an hour by the time I got the stuff together to do the job. I also had to replace one of the gold bags in the gold room. Some one managed to snatch it and take it with them. Always some thing.

The train meet is over except for a couple of stragglers. I will stop by there after work and if anyone is still running I may get a ride. John was going to fire up my locomotive this morning. We need to check it on steam to be sure that the stuff we worked on is all right. Any time you take parts off and put them back on you check for leaks first on air and then on steam. Some times no leaks on air but with the heat and of the fire things open up.

Break is over so I'll head out. This is awfully close to the bottom of the page. Her's hoping that I don't start the next one. I'll check in later and for sure before I go to bed.

Sunny here, looking for a high in the 70’s,and light wind. Grounds drying quick, with luck and I get the tiller running, I can started on the garden in a couple days. The farmers need dry weather bad, guess only 20% corn and 8% of the beans are planted in the county. What is planted has been hurt by the cold n rain, glad I’m not farming anymore.

ED , Hope you get your engines lined out. I had one that was doing the same thing. I replaced the factory tires with some replacements I had and it worked fine, think the originals were to big.

RT , don’t care for people who pull that. The hardware store that was here in town would do that stuff. Send out a sell flier and when you went in there, wouldn’t sell it for the ad price. He went out of business, not to long after he started that.

Gumby , thanks for the animal pics. Did you get any train shot’s at the station.

Jim CG , Joe doesn’t have enough room for a sale been, but he’s been known to make some good deals. I got an Athrean engine last year, $25 off the marked price
CUB’s fans could be described as Optimistic/ Pessimist, I guess. Always has hope, but never is too disappointed.

Luc, take care of yourself - anyone I know of who’s had one of those slipped disks doesn’t have anything good to say about it (unless the pain finally goes away after much doctoring and surgery). Hopefully you’ll get a good date and time for Glo’s operation - will be keeping you both in my [angel][angel][angel]. Can you get a twofer special if you have them both on the same day? [:O] (just kidding - I wouldn't wi***hat on anyone) You do have someone to help you out after each other’s surgery, I hope. Don’t try to be pushing your own recovery too quick after your surgery. Take the time for you and Glo both, so you get fully healed from those surgeries.

Now if the library’d had the 2003 issues, I would’ve bought those too. There’re some of the Roque Bluffs (Iain Rice) layout series, that started in the 2003 MR’s (October, I think?) and ran through May 2004.

RT - sorry to hear about that buyer who tried to gouge you for more. Hopefully the authorities will put a crimp in her plans.

Made it back from the zoo and WOW!!!!!! They did a great job on the new digs for the cats. Two years without them and it was worth it. Plus, a little railranning too as the Amtrak station is but a few yards away.

I got to the train meet but never did get to run or ride. We ate supper about 6pm and by the time that I ate and got a plate for Mary Ann I was too tired to stay around. I came home and we doctored the calf and I was ready for bed. Mary Ann expected me to go back to the meet but I'm too pooped and 4am comes early.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Sorry I haven’t been posting updates as I should have been. Just seems like there’s a lot of stuff going on. Retirement can really keep a guy busy, what with naps and all. [|)]

Been out to the orange grove a couple of times this week. We’re getting down to the short straws, orange-wise. But I think we’ve got enough to last until the end of the month anyway.

Fran and I have suddenly become very active with golf, playing 5 times in the last 9 days. Just 9 holes each time, but walking and playing in this heat, nine holes is enough. Then back home for some time in the a/c, lunch, and a nap (of course). [;)]

On our last trip NOB I bought a Model Power Mikado and a Model Power Pacific, both from the new run with traction tires factory installed. Unfortunately, both have an unpleasant habit of climbing over the outside rail on my 9-3/4” curves. I’m working with the Pacific now to see if there’s anything obviously wrong, but that stuff is pretty small to troubleshoot. I’d hate for them to just have to sit in their boxes.

Afternoon all, barley pop Janie, Cubs n White Sox playing each other now, bet ya can’t guess who’s winning
T-ball games are over, had a good time watching those 4 an 5 year olds, some of them are purrty good already. Can’t give you a score, since none are kept. Each player gets 5 pitches to hit it, if not then the kids hint off the ball stand, and every kid gets a try. Games last bout an hour.

Paul animals are surprising healers sometimes. We had dogs get in to tour sheep one time and they chewed the butt out of one of the ewes. Called the vet and he fixed her up and she lambed twins the nexted spring.
Sounds like those crewmen need a refresher course in safety.

Grayfox , your way east of us, we’re clear over in eastern ILL. I’m guessing bout 10-12 hours from Horse Shoe curve.

Gumby , hope you had fun at the zoo.

Luct , the other half is still in our prayers, and we’ll throw in for a quick recovery on your slipped disk. I know how painful it can be.
