Morning All! Give me a nice tall stack of pancakes and a glass of OJ.

I'm in really early this morning, as I most likely won;t get tiem the rest of the day, with the meet filling up most of my afternoon, and then the train comes tonight. But, I can't stay and talk long now either, homework beckons......

Good Afternoon All: ***, it's 103.5 Kilopascals and bright sunshine, just around freezing when we got up(late for us). Thawing now, and (brief pause while I dash down to the kitchen to put the potatoes [roast, aka Sunday Potatoes] in the oven, Kris is out walking Rosie-the-dog) really quite pleasant.
TrainsRMe:
QUOTE: I like the idea of the shop being open 24-7 I heard that the food is better at night is that true?
Judge for yourself, and checkout the nifty railroad theme on the place mats[(-D]
Nick:
QUOTE: Fortunately I'm 180 miles away from that site, so I'm fairly safe from any roving Lancs on the loose.
So you would like to think, but Fergie's Lancaster has an affinity for old wartime type targets, as I warned about a week ago [(-D] That's Lake Mead, in case you were wondering, and a whole lot of Pepto-Bismol! Is 180 miles going to be enough?[:D]
Matt:
QUOTE: Leicester....would have to check a map!
I've only a pre-most-of -the-motorways-map, but from Aberystwth head for Welshpool, then Shrewsbury, take the A5 to the Derby cut off through Lichfield and Burton-on-Trent,(A38) and at Derby head south to Leicester on the A6. ***, that's roughly 140 miles. What's at Leicester, apart from an impressive cathederal?
Kris is back saying that it's wonderful out, and that the roast smells really good even outside[dinner]
Ed:
QUOTE: Didn’t we hash over the fried squirrel topic a few weeks back? It’s been so long since I ate fried squirrel (37 years) that I really don’t remember much about it other than the pieces were real small.

Kris also had a comment about the squirrel thing when I told her this. Something about Hot Forepaws Night, for those who don't believe in Squirrel Wings[(-D] We used to watch flying squirrels in Tobermory, so are firm believers[:D]
Now back to see how the foam glued overnight.

Flip-Don't worry about the Geezer thing. When I was driving for the parts dept we had another driver that I called Old Coot, and he would call me Geezer. He has since retired for the second time and I no longer drive for the parts dept.

Well time to go to the basement and work on some more benchwork and then the game.

Talk to you later

Good afternoon all!! Another beautiful day here in central Mass, 45F degrees (7C) and not a cloud in the sky. Gee, I don't know why they can't play the Super Bowl here in Foxboro, Mass.??!!

Der John, man, that is a nice breakfast, love the placemats!! Kilopascals huh? We will really get the troops upset, although Noah and Jim probably know, maybe Ed too.
The significance of Leicester, England, is that the Earle of Leicester granted land rights here in central Mass to some of the earliest settlers. The men who settled here in our area names the town after the Earle, calling the town Leicester, Mass. The mayor of Leicester, England came here during our bicentennial and had a great time.

Time to get ready for the big game, the gang will be arriving soon....GO PATS !!!

Rob and Tim, if you haven't seen it already, the Sept. 2004 MRR had an article (Taking It To The Streets, pgs. 88-89) which wasn't primarily about trolleys, but the layout they showed detailing for was a trolley one (if my memory hasn't totally gone). Worth looking at - the author even had a torn up street section where they were working on the sewer/water lines. He made the bricked/'paver' kind of street and carved them in with something like dental tools (but other things would work if you don't have some laying around your place)[(-D]

Something to check out, at least. [:)]

Good afternoon, CC’ers, and I’ll have a chocolate malted smoothie, Zoe!

Well, laid out the paper and track to see about the 1:1 drawing of my layout last night - and found out it won’t fit quite like I planned! [banghead] I’m sure nobody else here has had that happen to them, right? [;)][:-^] Seemed that when I made up the plan in RailModeller, I neglected to notice that my dual mainline tracks were a bit closer than module specs to the front edge. Or else, I was counting the curved front (left) edge and measured in from that...[:(] [sigh] Pooh!

Not sure if using #4 switches would fit it in like I want or not. May have to go pick up a LH and RH #4 each from my LHS and try again. I just have #6 LH, RH and a Wye (all the Atlas brass Custom-Line, I think), and I’d need more of a 2 feet by 12 with the #6's, instead of a 2 feet by 8 (or 10) as I’d drawn it.

Guess that's trade-offs of the design I wanted vs. modular specs. I'm sort of wanting to merge both, 'cause I did find out there’s a local (Horribly Oversized) train group which is working on modules for a 16 X 16 (overall) layout. As they say, back to the drawing board (or would that be the dining room table board?).

Chris, I’d been wondering if your were busy or where you’d been hiding. Good to hear from you.

Nick, thanks for the explanation of how you came up with your layout plan. The photos look good - of course, I’m about like Ed said (can’t find the photos of my non-existent prototype). [;)]

SFried Flip, I’d have to say I do prefer chicken over those other things that “taste just like chicken”. But then again, I don’t think there’s white meat on squirrels, is there? [dinner]

Ed, I saw one set of 10 switches on eBay - but it ends before my payday comes around. Will be looking again come Monday and see what’s there. It’d be good if I could fine some decent shape flextrack on there (but flextrack's not too pricey for new - the switches are what ups the cost so much). Thanks again for the suggestion, Ed.

A while back I saw someone had some nicely detailed dumpsters in one auction on eBay (with sort of scale trash in them and all), so I saved the pics for use later, when I’ll probably try to build my own (that auction too, fell too much before payday). But the nice thing with MRR’ing is, it’s not hard to build your own stuff if you have some detailed photos and a little time!

What? Fergie is still up there with the Lancaster? I thought he had dropped his (pink) load in Texas. Now we’ll have everyone thinking we’re paranoid as we nervously watch the skies when we hear a plane’s engine... [swg]

You *hope* so, Nick! Anyone know what’s the maximum range for a Lancaster (and can they aerially refuel them)? We may not be safe after all - don’t open the bunker doors just yet...

Noah, hope you quickly got that homework done so you could get to the meet before the doors open (and all the really good stuff gets sold). Have fun and don’t spend too many months of your paycheck/allowance! [;)] Give us a report after you get back, so we can drool a bit. [:)]

John, what is a Kilopascals (besides being 1000 pascals)? Never heard of that one, if it’s temperature anyway. Nice breakfast pics! Has Zoe been using some of her time embossing those cute little trains on the placemats? Way to go, Zoe! [bow]

***, I think your computer hiccuped on you, from the look of those two posts.[:-^]

Think I'll fire up the RailModeller and see if I can fit things in according to the modular standards and get all that track in there. Without it becoming as snug as a Timesaver, that is.[:D] Want to fini***he re-planning before the SuperBowl commercials come on. [:)]

Blessings on your afternoon work, and may your team do well,

About 1600 miles and they can't be refueled in flight. A one way suicide mission would be 3200 miles then.

I'm just sitting around today waiting for the Eagles to win the Super Bowl so I can get busy hoping and praying for a Steelers-Eagles Super Bowl next season like I do every year.

Weren't Lancasters mainly plywood? And why couldn't it be retrofitted to mid-flight refueling?

Think that's the Mosquito you're thinking of Flip - nicknamed the "wooden wonder", twin Merlin V12s but didn't weigh much more than a Spitfire, was the fastest aircraft in the RAF for ages. Apparently the Luftwaffe even tried putting Nitrous Oxide on their fighters to catch the Mosquito, that's how much quicker it was. I know Mosquitoes could have extra fuel tanks fitted though, so anyone's guess how far one of those could fly!

Good evening all.

Remember a few weeks ago we were talking about how much snow we all get and went on discussing the snow storms. Many of those torms ended up in Newfoundland north of us. We have an office in St John's and they have sent us some pics from the storms. Here are a few.

These are the most interesting ones.

Gloria is doing a little better today. Ihave not been able to catch up in the reading though I think I'll just carry on from here.

Have you all have a great day and the your team wins.

Happy MRRing

Hey hi all again. Flip the Lancaster was all metal and a four engined brute 20,000 pound plus max bomb load. The only bomber I know of that De haviland made was the mosquito it was technically a fighter but it was used as a bomber , interceptor, photo recon just about everything you could imagine. The other big Brit bomber was Handely Pages halifax it was also four engine and all metal. The Lanc at the Warplane Museum at hamilton airport was a Canadian Forces Maritime recon plane after the war the RCAF used their lancs this way until they replaced them with Orions and Trackers. Rob

Hey again if anyone wants any I've got all three varieties of ground squirrels in my back yard red, grey, and black and the warm weather has made them frisky[B)][:0][:0][:0]Looks like we'll have a bumper crop of them this year. The only problem though is that we can't shoot them in the city limits[V][xx(][xx(]Gotta leave it up to the local cats I guess. Luc glad to hear your wife is improving hopefully you've turned the corner, nice pictures from the rock BTW. Matt are you sure you want some of our winter weather[?] Also[#offtopic] Since everything is suposed to taste like chicken hears a thought maybe chicken doesn't taste like chicken. Good Afternoon Coffee Clubbers,

Just a beautiful day down here. Still mostly cloudy, but the temperature is probably in the low 70’s, slight breeze. Just a great day. Spent some time out on the terrace with the little TV table that I use as a workbench, clipping off the little molded on spikes from ties that I had cut off flextrack (when making joints) so that I could slip them back under the track at the joints to fill back in.

Snacked on some nachos. Fran has boiled up some shrimp to nosh on during the game. Let’s see what other nutritious stuff I can find laying around. I was counting on some of ***’s meatballs to arrive, but the carrier parrot must have got hungry on the way (or got stopped by the migra at the border). Well, there you go, Fran [C=:-)] just brought up some fresh guacamole dip!! Yum. [dinner]

QUOTE: Paul: Good Evening Mr. & Mrs. America, Canada, Mexico, Great Britten, Denmark, any where else, and all the ships at sea. ( Fergie ) A little take off on Walter Winchell. You old geasers remember him?
Picked it up as soon as you said Mr & Mrs America.

So it was a decent show, huh? Good, I’m glad you found a loco at a good price. $385/car??? [:0] A little pricey??? Oh, but great discount if you took the whole set! I guess there’s a place in the hobby for people with all sizes of pockets.

QUOTE: radivil: Fortunately I'm 180 miles away from that site, so I'm fairly safe from any roving Lancs on the loose.
You put more faith in Fergie’s ability with a bombsight that the rest of us do!! [(-D]

QUOTE: TrolleyRob: …and picked up some more pink insulation board, I don't want Ed's scenery making leaving me in the dust…
And plenty of dust there was. Today I was sanding some of the areas that I rough shaped with the surform rasp yesterday. You really want that shop vac close in this type of work.

And now it’s Heather who’s having problems?? Looks to me like being married to a model railroader could be hazardous to a wife’s health. We certainly are having a rash of “better half” problems here these days.

QUOTE: TurboTim: Last chance guys to get the CA sun. I here they want to tax it out here.
Only because you brought up taxation, and not wanting to get into a political discussion, but I was curious as to how Arnold has worked out as Governor. During the campaign it was national news every day, but since he took office I really haven’t heard much about the situation.

QUOTE: Tim: Yes I have a screw gun and I know how to use it. …... Argghhhhhhhhhhhhhh Arghhhhhhhhhh Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

QUOTE: TrainsRMe: .. I'm still looking for "N"scale SW9 switchers..
The tips I found are buried several pages back, but I dug them out and posted them in that other post you started.

QUOTE: Matt: LGB offer the stock in G scale, but the prices are out of this world - example being the electric RHB railcars at around £500 ($1000), don't think I'll be buying one any time soon!
Fortunately, with my space limitations I don’t have to worry about being tempted by G scale. So my wallet is at least safe from that onslaught!

QUOTE: Flip: Boy oh boy, service in here is getting slower and slower.
What do you expect at 05:45 on a Sunday morning? And why were you up that early instead of sleeping in yourself? [zzz] Don’t tell me you had to work today too!

John, that photo looked veeerrryy similar to my breakfast this morning, just no hash browns and no train-embroidered placemat. Nice to see that O.J., you guys need to keep up that intake of sunshine vitamin C.

QUOTE: grayfox: Kilopascals huh? We will really get the troops upset, although Noah and Jim probably know, maybe Ed too.
Sounds like something I might have heard in physics class once long ago, and just as quickly forgot.

Thanks for letting me know the game had started, Ed - I hadn't kept up, and was thinking it was on CBS [oops]

Oh, I think I might have *most* of my layout glitch worked out. Had to go with #4 switches (off the mainline tracks), and it will involve fouling the main at points when switching certain tracks in the module. But if you want to take a peak, it's on RailImages:

Here's the link:

(Had trouble earlier getting the image to link properly...)

More later, maybe. Halftime is coming (and the *commercials*![:O]) Can we say, "wardrobe malfunction"?[:D][;)]) Nah, Sir Paul said he doesn't have any wardrobe that could malfunction...

The one Bud light commercial might have had Paul's parrot in there (well, it was wearing white tails, y'know).[}:)]

Ed:
Don't worry, that 2-8-2 will keep its original paint for a good while. Tomorrow I have to see about sending it to BLI anyways because a rivet popped off the running gear.

Yesterday I worked a bit on designing freelanced paint schemes for the D&MW (Dearborn & Midwestern), I'll see what I like of those before I decide wether to go free-lanced or model the NKP. I like the switcher scheme I made, silver with red engine access doors and white trim around the red. So far I don't know what the road scheme will be, too many ideas.

Good Evening All:

***:
It's half time and the Pats have fumbled 4 times but only lost it twice, that's good luck. I've seen high school games that were better then this. This year I'm one of the 1 in 6 that is watching just to see the commercials.
We've had robins in all day today at the feeder.

Jim:
I laid code 83 and found out that # 5 switches work very well, I use #6 on the main because I want a smooth transition. The #5's will let me PUSH a 27 car train over them.

Ed:
Several days ago you ask how I'd feel if you came to Houston and didn't come over, I'd feel very bad - hell I'd feel bad if any coffee shop customer got that close and didn't come over.

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Hi Gang; Not much doing today. Mary Ann and I went on a little search for a portable building to store the 7 1/2 inch locos. I've got to get them all on my railroad and under decent cover. Mary Ann wants to get some schrubs to plant along the fence line to hide our place from all the neighbors that are crowding in.

Well I'm going to head off to bed. Work tomorrow you know.

No, that wasn't it, must be the halfsheimers acting up again. It was a joke in response to your reaction to the kid who said we should be careful in meeting people we know from the internet. Here's a copy of what was said:

QUOTE: Teffy:
Who was the guy that asked if any of the posters ever meet each other face to face and that we'd better meet in a public place.
Well you’ve got to remember that The Coffee Shop is a rather special place, so what we may consider prudent behavior among the regulars here could be considered rather risky on another site. Out in the real internet world, meeting in public would probably be good advice. By the way, when I get to Groves do I get to see your layout or are you starting to have second thoughts about me?

I guess I just forgot to add the [joke] [/joke] tags around that last part.

We're still planning on being up there in April. We'll work out the details of the visit by email, if you take my email address of the list of addresses you've got your email provider blocking. [:D] (<<<That was a joke too!)

Gotta turn this chair around and start watching the game again.

Regards
