Speaking of sports, our national rugby team have beaten England for the first time in 12 years. Final score Wales 11 England 9. Great news, looks like the glory days of the 1970's might be on the way back!

I've also managed to set up a website with our ISP - much easier than I expected it to be! Address is http://trains2k5.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/ and I've got a few photos up, will be expanding it slowly though I'm still working out what I actually want to put on photo-wise. My long-term project Walthers Dash 8 is there along with the Rail Power Products double stack car I built just before the Athearn RTR version arrived. All comments welcome!

Well, it’s afternoon, sunny out, but here I am back at the Coffee Shop! Go figure! [:)]

Zoe, a mocha frappaccino, and a glass of Ed’s fresh OJ on the side, please. Thanks!

Luc, sorry to hear Gloria was in the hospital, but hopefully they’ll get things tended to so she won’t have to go back in any more for that.

Ed, I hadn’t figured eBay would have track, but I’ll check after I get off here. Thanks! [bow] Sorry you won’t get the commercials - they had a special last night with 'best of' U.S. and world SuperBowl commercials (and way too much inane commentary, but that’s a bit [#offtopic]). Maybe someone could tape the commercials and send it down your way?

And as for the ‘slow and steady’ phrase, nowadays it might say something more like ‘better living/sports through chemistry’... no, wait - that’s a different chemical company’s slogan/ad [;)]

Oh, Ed - thanks for the idea on the RTS, but I use Macintosh and Apples (only - almost no viruses that way), so RTS wouldn’t work unless I bought Virtual PC (and I refuse to line Billy Gates’ pockets - don’t like his business practices generally). I have emailed Atlas to suggest they make available the details of the RTS file format so people could easily exchange ideas on layout designs. (We'll see - haven't heard much back yet). For now, I’ve downloaded and registered a shareware one called MacRailroader which is pretty good. But the virtual plans don’t have the flexibility of 1:1 layout work. About like a train simulator vs. running the real things on your layout.

Looks like we may be peaking out today around 59 F, 15 C (actually comes out to even degrees to convert!) and sun is shining (non-canned - no offense, Tim!).

Dave, right now I have your river pic as my desktop. Nice! [:D]

Noah, good to hear you’re up and at ‘em again - especially if there’s a train meet coming soon. You do *not* want to miss those, I’m sure!

***, good to hear you’re working on your tan up there. [;)] And isn’t that an oxymoron to have ‘network gurus’ and ‘anybody home between the ears’ in the same paragraph? [swg] Enjoy that fuzzy navel. Oh, I have eaten fried squirrel, and for me, it tasted like chicken. That's a good idea for you to go ahead and buy HD stock - as you said, might as well get some dividends back.

Nick, your layout looks like should provide some interesting switching for you (not a modified Timesaver, is it?). Good idea about that ‘recycled’ baggage car/shed - I have some of the old MDC/Roundhouse kits that use boxcars/tank cars/etc. to make storage sheds and fueling tanks. Plus with recycled cars, you can do all kinds of weathering, rust, dents, etc.

Flip, you know Ed brings up those Red Socks mostly to see what your reaction will be, right? [;)] You two!

Matt, will your site allow us to (later, maybe) see larger versions of the pics? They look good at the size they are, but will make for even better viewing (with these older eyes) if they were a bit larger. Congrats on the Wel***eam’s victory, by the way! I think on my mother’s side I have some relatives who came here from Wales.

Have the DR table about half cleared off, but will need to get off the computer to completely clear it for my layout planning. I was debating about barbequeing some small steaks I got yesterday for dinner. Spring fever - me?[8D]

Will get going so I can get back to the layout design now. See everyone later, and happy MRR’ing!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau (59 F/15 C., visibility 10 miles and only 44 percent humidity - love it!)

just been in hospital for an operation which gives me some time to surf the web for a few weeks, it's also given me chance to sell some stuff and buy some new stuff. I have been bitten by the Broadway Limited imports bug, it's got a good hold now, i think it's incurable. Had a good meal at our local pub tonight, they call it the Mega Grill, the meal not the pub, consists of the following:- Beaf steak, pork steak, Lamb, cumberland sausage ( thats a curly wurly looking sausage) mushrooms, two fried eggs, fried tomatoes, A Black pudding ?( it's a pigs intestine stuffed with all the leftover bits that don't go to the dog food factory, a good dose of blood to give it it's distinct black colour), VERY NICE, all this is fried then served on a hot cast iron dish, when you get it it's spitting hot, served with chipped potatoes and onion rings with a pint of real ALE not fizzy lager beer

Well Steve, glad to hear that you are up and about. Clearly your past problem was not was not with your digestive tract.[;)]

I must say that the British are not best known for their cuisine, but every nation has it's delicacies. That description of the black pudding sounds somewhat reminiscent of the Scottish haggis. Truth be told, with the exception of the blood, it sounds quite closely related to what we on this side of the pond call a "hot dog". And to think, my son lives on hot dogs.[:0][xx(][8][:(] Time to change that boy's diet.

Thank God it's our common taste in trains that brings us here.[swg]

First, let me say HI to the one's that have been gone and come back.

Luc & Flip-Best wishes to both wives, hope everything works out.

***-Let me know how well that cloud kit works, and I would imagine that you could use a white instead of the colors they use to get the same affect. With this warm weather you shouldn't slip as much now.Enterprise hasn't been one of the best, but Fri night has too many other good programs on as well. It's as though they are looking for the death wish.

Ed-I know what you mean about the shows being a little different in each location,it happens with the motorcycle show as well. There is one in Cleveland and Chicago that are really good, but when it gets to the Detroit area it seems to go down the tubes.

Nick-You at least have a start, even if the rest is in the head.

Matt-I agree with JimCG,if you could find a way that we could enlarge the pictures it would help those of us with the older eyes. Looking good though!!

Ok for the inquiring minds, I have been in the basement working on my benchwork.I am not going to model any particular road, but it will be mostly in the steam era, that is what is nice about it being a hobby and your layout is your world.I have thought about calling it The Michigan Lost Line, because it is lost in the mind.

Everyone have a good evening.

Talk to you later

it's an aquired Lancashire taste, Black pudding, it's a lot stronger tasting than a hot dog, with much more blood content, I had a bit of a lump (apple size) removed from under my eyes in the rear sinus cavitys, bit painfull for a week but getting better now, it's not spoiled my appitite though.

Jim, thanks for the kind words - I'll look at getting larger photos onto the site, still trying to figure out their "Easy Website Builder" software (quite remarkably awful to be honest, if I could write decent HTML I'd build it myself instead!), think I may have picked the wrong page template as there were others with (presumably) larger images available.

Matt, not to worry - take your time and you won't have to go back and re-do (and re-do, and...) it later. And I know what you mean about the so-called "Easy Website Builder" kinds of software. One of the last ones I used basically meant you had very few templates from which to select, and I always found I wanted something else. It's how I ended up learning the measly bit of HTML I have learned) - getting tired of kludges and make-do's. [}:)][;)]

As Duke mentioned, the pictures are good (even if our eyes aren't). I have a magnifying glass/lens which I can use if I get too antsy to see details while you're getting things fixed up. [:)]

Duke- thanks. Deb was able to get about 3 hours sleep last night and then about 5 from 9:30 a.m. on. Steady dull ache that won't go away. Can't use left arm worth a darn.
Steve- I humbly bow to you and your stainless steel stomach. Mine is only castiron. Glad you are on the mend. Keep a stiff upper lip old chap.Eh,wot?

Its actually close to what the real deal looks like, except I moved a lot of the spurs around and changed the owning railroad. It got way more complex that I'd have liked, but I didn't want half my space to be a field. I flipped the whole thing over, mirrored it, duplicated it a second time, and then tweaked everything until I liked what I saw. I made sure that all the switchbacks were long enough to hold an SW1000 and a pair of 37' covered hoppers. I didn't have any 37' covered hoppers, so I used my SW1000, a caboose, and a 40' hopper as my unit of measure.

I traced out the facility's tracks and the Buffalo & Pittsburgh line that serves them. I also circled that passenger car in red.

Here's my mangled and crazy version of it. I didn't draw it quite perfectly and a lot of the proportions are off. Now it branches off of the Bessmer & Lake Erie/CN Bessemer Division, which is really the AM&LE in my fictional world. The B&P line, which has become the Pittsburgh & NIagara, now just passes by instead of servicing it.

This is the only photo that I've ever found online: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=7022

I didn't want to actually duplicate the facility 100%, but rather just capture the feel of it. I could have probably done it as four spurs and come fairly close to being a compressed, but accurate, version. But there was nothing to switching it. I think I might use some of the spurs for other purposes occasionally, instead of only loading limestone into covered hoppers. Having one spur occasionally used to unload plastic pellets or a boxcar full of something for a plant with no rail service might help justify the complexity I gave it so that its not just complicated for the sake of being complicated.

That sounds rather large and serious, not to mention painful. I do hope the prognosis is good, we need all the model railroaders we can get.

Having not been to Lancashire, I can honestly say I have not aquired that taste.[:D]

They say that laughter is good medicine, I hope that we can at least be of help in that regard, as long as it doesn't hurt too much. Stick with us while you're on the mend.

Wow has it been a long time since I've posted on the Coffee Shop! Lately I've been planning to switch prototypes, from the CB&Q to the NKP or a free-lance line based on the NKP, Pere Marquette, and C&O I call either the "Detroit & Midwestern" or the "Dearborn & Midwestern." I'm thinking about building a small switching layout, where it will be located yet I do not know. Of course I'll have to have the spare money to build it first.[}:)]

Ed:
So that means sometime I've got to repaint and detail my BLI 2-8-2 for a Nickel Plate USRA 2-8-2. Lots easier than those Q O-4s, no darned oil bunkers!

Oh, and welcome to all the newcomers since the last time I've been here!

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Warming up a bit here, what a surprise! Sweater is off. Still don’t think I’ll need to run the fans tonight. No sun. But trust me, this is just reporting, not complaining. [:)] The complaining comes in the summer when it’s 95º with 95% humidity and the a/c is on 24/7. [:0] It actually sounds like it’s a nicer day in New England today than it is down here.

I’m not into fuzzy navels, and usually clean the lint out of mine when I shower, but………… oh, what? It’s a drink??? [;)] Okay, I do have some Bacardi Solera in my O.J. this afternoon. But it doesn’t have a name, that I know of.

Went and shot some pool with my F-I-L this afternoon. [8] It’s a really rinkydink and run down pool hall, but at about $1.45 an hour for the table the price is right.

So only minimal progress on foaming today. But like I say, a bit of progress everyday will eventually get me there. I did some shaping on one part with the surform tool (with my trusty shop vac at arms length) and then smoothed it out some with some different grit sandpapers. There’s hope yet.

QUOTE: Flip: Please put in for June 27. Thanks.
Done! And I hope that Debbie’s pain eases a bit.

I’m glad to hear your going to make the monthly NMRA meeting, Noah. I guess you’re glad you joined.

QUOTE: grayfox: …these must be "Canadian" Robins that "do" go south, but only as far as NE…
Immigration problems, eh? Probably “frostbacks”. [:-,]

Didn’t we hash over the fried squirrel topic a few weeks back? It’s been so long since I ate fried squirrel (37 years) that I really don’t remember much about it other than the pieces were real small.

Ooh, ooh, sounds like a good menu for the SB party tomorrow ***. Wish I were there.

Brian, you might want to look at ebay also. Sometimes you can find real good buys on sectional track there. I mentioned it to Jim earlier, but I found some switches and crossovers at a real good price. They occasionally have new and/or used stuff. You might not want to buy an engine on ebay, but track is probably a safe bet.

QUOTE: (CG)Jim: Flip, you know Ed brings up those Red Socks mostly to see what your reaction will be, right?
Not true!! I bring it up because it could be the last time in my lifetime I get to brag on the Red Sox. [(-D] One has to take advantage when one can.

Ouch, Steve, that doesn’t sound like fun at all. But if you came through it okay and are convalescing with time to drop in here, then that’s okay. That plate of food would be enough for me and Fran to split. I haven’t spent all that much time in the U.K., but in the times I was there it seemed to me that the pub food was the best deal. And yes, you guys have some dynamite milds and bitters.

It’s also not uncommon down here to find a lot of innards being cooked up, especially pigs, and there is a di***hat uses a lot of blood (name escapes me at this moment).

QUOTE: Duke: .I am not going to model any particular road, but it will be mostly in the steam era, that is what is nice about it being a hobby and your layout is your world.
Join the crowd. My layout is freelance also, and set roughly in 1945-1960 so I can run steam and maybe some early diseasels.

Nick, thanks for posting those overhead shots with the markups. That helped a lot in understanding where you’re going with the layout. Wish I had some overhead shots of my railroad to work away from. Ooops, forgot, having overhead shots would be a trick since the railroad didn’t really exist!

Chris, good to see you again. I see you’re still in the midst of changing your idea. Maybe you should hold off on repainting that BLI 2-8-2 just a bit.

Well, I suppose that’s about all from your correspondent south of the border. You guys have a good evening and we’ll see you tomorrow, just not bright and early. Sunday is our traditional sleep-in day. [zzz]

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Good Evening Mr. & Mrs. America, Canada, Mexico, Great Britten, Denmark, any where else, and all the ships at sea. ( Fergie ) Alittle take off on Walter Winchell. You old geasers remember him? GATS report. Well it was a better show than I expected. Larger and with more venders and layouts than the last one in Fort Worth. Brad of Brads trains was there and he had another Bachman 2-8-0 undec so I had to buy it. $79.95 tax included. Not to bad.

Big Boy 1213; I saw some Hi cars there. They were a little pricy, $385 each or $ 3475 for a 10 car set. These were the post war Olympians in brass. Nice paint jobs but waaaaaaaay beyond my price range. If I could find the time to do the patterns I could do the rib side cars in resin. There just isn't enough time in the day.

I'm going to hold off on painting any steam loco's. I'm afraid they would come out pink. It may be catching you know.

Dave; That's a great camp sight. I can smell the smoke from the fire now.

Rob; That was quick.

Bob; have you heard from Fergie?

That's it for me. I'm off to bed.

Good morning everyone just thought I'd pop in for a quick minute or so.Just got in from the museum we managed to get a good chunck of the tongue and groove roofing material on ol 416 the car won't likely run for two years or so but considering it had been used as a cottage and a tool shed for 25 years it's amazing it's as close to being used as a streetcar as it is.I hit my local HD before I went up to the museum and picked up some more pink insulation board,i don't want Ed's scenery making leaving me in the dust[swg][swg]Flip and luc I hope your wives are on the mend it's no fun being in pain,Heather has been having to do physio on her foot for a year and a half to releave the pain of a long ago break the dr's not liking to leave her on the pain meds. We'll pray for Gloria and Deb to mend quickly. Ed, kudos, you are always great with the smarts. Yes some trolls are worse than others.

TrolleyRob, do you know anywhere I can get a San Diego Trolley. Heard they made them a few years back, but no more. Also do you know of any really unusual trolley/streetcars in HO ? Just something different and colorful. [:D][:)]

Last chance guys to get the CA sun. I here they want to tax it out here. [B)] Glad it is spreading out over the USA. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh SoCal sun, hot and warm, like our trains and women. Beer is cold.

Luc, hope the CEO gets stronger and better. She needs to keep you in line. Both need your sleep. Sleep, sleep.

Lastly, did more garage work this weekend, but alas not trains. Built a huge storage cabinet, and a shelf unit with doors for laundry. Yes I have a screw gun and I know how to use it. Even had to dig out the BIG drill, as the dumb screw wouldn't go in the wall studs all the way. Felt like Tim Allen, more power. Argghhhhhhhhhhhhhh Arghhhhhhhhhh Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Take care,

Tim

Hi all

Just posting to say I've fixed the tiny photo problem on the website - turns out there are two sizes of "Image" page templates. The view along the layout now shows rather more of the mess in the train room than intended - my brother is currently living in there while we re-decorate his bedroom, the good part is that when he moves back in about 2 weeks time there's going to be some major reorganisation in there, so with any luck I should have a better location for the layout than at the moment!

***, nope, I'm nowhere near Leicester. Not even sure where it is to be honest - would have to check a map! I know it's a fairly sizable place but my navigational skills are somewhat dubious, once got lost on the way home from a party in the dark and ended up driving about 50 miles further than intended, mostly in circles! Only realised when some particularly memorable place names came up more than once...

Sunday morning here, so the only thing worth seeing on TV is a German satellite channel called "Bahn TV" - a channel sponsored by the German railway company (DB) that basically showcases all their news, but also has plenty of lineside footage which is handy for figuring out train formations. The dangerous parts are the Swiss Metre Gauge lines - LGB offer the stock in G scale, but the prices are out of this world - example being the electric RHB railcars at around £500 ($1000), don't think I'll be buying one any time soon!

Good Morning All. Black, no sugar, bagel, cream cheese and lox. Thankyou.
Boy oh boy, service in here is getting slower and slower. Ah, what the heck, the people here are the greatest so I'll keep coming back.
God bless all with health and love.
