Good evening gents, a spectacular day here in Central Mass., we hit hit 38 degrees (F), 4C, which put us into shirt-sleeves. I finally got a chance to actually wa***he car in the driveway!!! I think I even got a little sunburn[;)]. No work on the train room today, we took advantage of the nice weather outside. In fact, the weather is going to be nice all next week..YEEEEESSSSSSS !!!! Even Rosie-the -cat came out, our attack cat to enjoy the warm sun. Yes John, we have a CAT names Rosie!!

WOW, I see that Robert, Duke and Jim have joined John and I as "Enterprise" enthusiasts!!! I love futuristic Scifi.

Ed....don't worry about the CPP, Groundhogs Day is Wednesday, if they see their shadow, they go back into their hole for another 6 months. Isn't that what happens Luc?
BTW Ed, I pick June 9th as day for post 10,000!
I was thinking of you Ed...at the show, as well as many of the coffee clubbers.....you all would have gone nuts.... what a show !!! Save your $$$ for next year!!

Jim, don't worry about cash at the show, they have an ATM right outside the main building, and it was busy!!!

Chris, yes, my ancestors from Quebec came to Webster, Mass first, to work in the woolen mills. My grandfather was born in Webster, and he then moved to my present town, Leicester ( Cherry Valley section ) to work in the woolen mills here.

Rob, yes, the ATM's, Debit systems, were flat out yesterday and today, man, people were walking out with bags upon bags, boxes......one guy even had airline package trolley that he converted to wheel his purchases around rather than walk way back to the parking lots.

John, I'll bet there is a lot of "brown trout" under the dog run too [;)][;)][:D]

Lupo: You should have seen this array at the Train show here in Springfield, Ma this weekend. Woodland Scenics had a nice display, great prices too on many show specials....they don't want to cart all this back home.

Tim: Ahhhh, were getting closer in temp!!! It was 52 in the sun today !!!

Luc: sending out three rolls tomorrow, it usually takes about 4 days to get them to me online, I will then experiment with getting them posted on this forum.

Got some catch up CFO stuff to do tonight, see you guys later,

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Absolutely gorgeous day down here. Sunshine, [8D] temp got up over 80 again, but we were down at a local fishing town in the early afternoon, buying some fish off the wharf, and the breeze there kept it comfortable. It’s cooling off with a nice breeze now. Looks like I’ll make through the entire month of January without having to turn the air conditioner on even once!! [^]

QUOTE: Teffy:
We (the club) were at a Merit Badge Fair today with about 250 scouts. We let them run the trains and it was nice to see the excitment in their faces - they were middle and high school students.
Good going! [tup] Hopefully you have sown a few seeds that will eventually blossom into model railroaders.

QUOTE: If you're thinking about having decals made talk to Fergie and find out who did his.
I think this is the guy who wound up doing the work for Fergie:
http://www.kcnet.com/~gmcrail/GMCRail1.html

I’m inclined to think that the mauve engine that Lupo posted might just win top honors as the worst paint job I’ve seen on a prototype loco. [;)]

QUOTE: Teffy (again):
My feeling is that you set the bents, pour the stream and then add the stringers along with the track to the tops of the bents. Anyone have any other suggestions??
Just guessing, as I’ve never done this, but why wouldn’t you complete the entire bridge, including stringers and deck, and then pour the mix for the water?

QUOTE: LilRob:
… I was born in 1974, in Dec. So that is why it seems that I'm 31.
That, plus the fact that I’m getting a bit math challenged in my old age. [:I]

Luc, thanks for the concern, but don’t get too bothered by the State Dept travel warnings. They’re more of a cya memo than anything else. Reading it carefully, it only mentioned watching out in the border area in red light districts and in areas known for drug sales. Duh!

I feel, and believe I am, safer down here in our little burg than I was in Houston. Lots of petty theft, but virtually no major crime. Now making a visit to Mexico City (where I lived on two occasions) is another story. You do have to be careful there. But again, I think the danger gets blown out of proportion in the press.

QUOTE: grayfox:
BTW Ed, I pick June 9th as day for post 10,000!
Actually, I think that’s a very good choice. I’d have picked a date right around there, but just to reflect the recent influx of newcomers (who knows if they’ll stick around) I’ll go with…………………. May 21st. Okay guys, looks like the lottery is ON. *** and I have our choices in. TrolleyRob has offered a guided tour of the Trolley Museum as a prize (which is a lot better deal than a week in St Paul in January!). I’ll keep track of the date choices, and will publi***he list of current choices every few days, depending on the activity level. No duplicate guesses. First guy to post choosing a date gets it. And no stuffing the forum with 50 one word posts if you need the number to reach 10,000 before midnight and we’re only at 9,950. [:O]

Luc, hope Gloria has a few days without discomfort to at least let her get a break before the next attack. That’s got to be wearing.

Flip, you haven’t mentioned Debbie lately, hope whatever she’s ailing with finds a solution.

That’s about it from down here, guys.

Catch you all tomorrow.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Good Evening, Coffee Clubbers![:)] Zoe, would you pass me some of those donut holes? I'll eat 'light' tonight. [:)] And a hot chocolate with that, please.

Forum rules? We don't need no forum rules! We don't have to show you no steenkin' forum rules!!![soapbox][swg]

I figure on most days here in the Shop, we violate about half of the rules they posted. Oh, and the "your having" in the first post? Grammatically incorrect - should have been "you're" (as in contraction for "you are")...[:-^] (Former English major - for a while - here)

Fergie, no dribbling pink on your way to Texas - some of us are on the route, and pink is not my favorite color. Oh, do I remember my daughter's "My Little Pony" phase when she was younger...[:P][;)]

Hey Brian, [bday] - hope you have a great one (Monday)! I brought you a small birthday cake - Zoe's got it hidden so the hungry ones don't scarf it up before you get back here. [dinner] Good to hear that you'll all have (temporary) wheels. I've been there before.

Teffy, can you get a rather large umbrella for your house?[;)]
Oh, I saw Rex came through earlier today. Emailed him like you suggested.

(Lil)Rob, would you want Teffy's stuff after it's all pink, though? Guess you could call it the PPL (Pink Panther Line) [}:)][;)]

Saw the Hallmark special tonight on CBS, but their locomotive at the start wasn't pink.[}:)][:-^] Just plain old, boring black...[sigh]

Blessings on what's left of your weekends,

Ed, my guess for our 'lottery' on the 10000th would be May 30th (traditional Memorial Day here when I was growing up). Though I'm not that into trolleys, I guess I could learn some about them if I won, huh?

Dave: I have a P2K E6 just like that, in Rock Island paint. It sure is a nice loco.

Zoe: Put me in for June 5, if tis not taken already.

Well, got the track laid down for mom's snow village today, those 13.5 inch radii don't look good, but the athearn SW1500 doesn't complain about it.

I missed who had the pink loco to start with, was it Teffy? Anyway, if you don't mind my saying, that thing is UGLY[xx(] looks like something from outer space[alien]. I gotta get me one!!!

Flip: Glad you said something about the snow thing, I was gonna see if yellow snow tasted like lemonade[:O].

Well, got to go back to school tomorrow, maybe I can check in from there. Seems that teacher doesn't mind as much as most of them would. We used to have an open computer lab anyone could go to anytime, but the computer guys got tired of removing viruses from them, so its restricted now[:(].

Better go now,

Blowing out that particular part of the drive wasn't very pleasant, because you are absolutely right, and would have won the bet[(-D] It's done, and that's the main thing!
Ed:
QUOTE: Just guessing, as I’ve never done this, but why wouldn’t you complete the entire bridge, including stringers and deck, and then pour the mix for the water?
I do as Bob suggests. The thing is that if there are air bubbles, or touch ups to paint or whatever, it's lots easier to deal with them if the bridge isn't in the way. I've built all my bridges in that sequence. In fact beneath my bridges are the first parts of my layouts to get a scenic treatment.[8D]

Luc: Thanks for the email, and I've sent it on [:)]

Well, I see it's that time again, so [bday] Brian, Happy 28th.tomorrow, and goodnight everyone, and God Bless.

At the rate Jim's posting, we may reach 10,000 by Feb 2,2005

Luc:
I still need your address, I promise I won't send anything pink.

Fergie:
This pink is growing on me

I didn't need the maul to get it running - I just disconnected one of the driver sets and it now runs fine, well it has just a little lope in it. It gives the loco character. It did cut down on the towing capacity, it only pulls 18 freewheeling cars. My brass is easier to work on.

Well, I logged on and thought "There's no way I'm gonna go back and read all of the posts, I'll just start at page 264 and.....first thing I see is the pink panther!!!!! I know I can't skip anything now, so 2 hours later I've caught up- BTW, I think it looks great. And yes, I'm confident in my sexuality, and I'm in touch with my feminine side!
Got a mail from Bill M, he's doing fine, said to say hi to all, and if anyone out there has "instructions and plan views for Campbells Mine head kit #352 or Chooch pulpwood loads for Athearn 40' Pulpwood cars" get in touch with him.
trooleyboy- I agree that the metric system is based on tens and would be easy, but my system is based on 50, that is 50 years of using it, so this old dog will keep doing his regular tricks! As long as I can get help from you in translating it, we'll do ok.
Ed- You are right about getting the tanks early from First Hobby, they were'nt supposed to ship until 3-5-05, so I'm thrilled with the time it took. They are out in my Jeep now, I need to bring them in and take a look at them. And thanks for saying what the Forum Police post was about, it saved me the time of looking at it.
Tom- I totally agree on moms and dads that didn't give up- and BTW, I'm using you as my scenery guru, you seem to be using everything that I plan on trying, so along with Ed, I'll be looking forward to seeing the pics.
Jim in Mo- Your comment about the murdering idiot in Cals social life becoming a bit different may be putting it mildly! I would'nt want to see his dance card for the next 20 years.
Brian- Sorry to hear about your B-day going sour, I hope it works out. Seeing as how misery loves company, I filed my taxes on last Wed, I had approx $800 to spend on whatever I wanted, Thur morn on way home from work I hit a deer, probably 1500$ in damage. Oh welllll.Hang in there, it will get....less worse, someday.
Lupo- I gave up dreams of having a cop car that cool years ago, and Flip, my rule is to never give any MRR a ticket, so keep a copy of MR in plain sight. Probably could'nt spell your name right anyway!
And a big Coffee Shop welcome to Silverspike, novacoach, sickscott and diesel75003! Grab a cupper and pull up a chair.

Like a bad case of moss? Well at least you have a shred of decency as you provided service to the Scouts. On that note Thank You! I recieved a call last night from the Area Commissioner, who advised me that we would not be having Scout/Guide Week and that Regional Cub Cars maybe in jeopardy. Turns out one mall says they don't have the space and MIC MAC MALL found the kids too noisy in years gone by (maybe if we let the prgoram fold we'll let the kids roam the malls on there own and see ho mall security likes that), so we're not invited back. Hey but that's OK I just won't be shopping there!

Brian:[bday][bday][bday][bday] Hoping your day is a good one!

Dear Bob: after much thought and deliberation and a lack of cooperation on your part. I've decided on my version of PINK.

I figure about 5000 gallons should cover it and have secured the neccesary tools to complete this job, Actually this worked out really well as it's off season for forest fires and a got the cheap rate. (better then UPS and delivery date is "SOON"! A little hint buddy, Valentine's day is just around the corner).

As 5000 gallons dropped from approx. 5000' will have some weight to it I would suggest you brace, not only yourself but also the house. I've created a reasonable facsimile and am quite sure you and yours will be tickled...

PINK

As always, Love
Fergie

Good Mornin, Everybody,

Happy Birthday Brian!!! I hope it really turns out to be a great one.

It's a gray, chilly day in the mountains today. It will be another work day, with no model railroading in the forecast. As is usual with such things, the bathroom redo is taking longer than planned. It's going well and it's going to be really pretty, it just takes longer and costs more than anticipated, which is completely normal. That's OK, it only has to be done once. Today I'll get the color coats on the bead and board and the mouldings. Then it will be time to measure and see how much flooring we're going to need. We're going to use the same wood laminate material we used in Shawna's room.

Ed, i'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has to take notes to keep track of everything that's going on in the coffee shop. There's just way too much for my memory, or what's left of it, to handle.

Robert, put me down as another Star Trek fan. Although I like all the different series, TNG is my favorite.

JimRCGMO, you're absolutely right, the Atlanta news over the weekend was full of shots of vehicles in the ditches due to the ice. Most were SUV's and 4x4 pickups.

TurboOne, Outstanding! Finishing the benchwork and getting trains running is a major milestone.

Flip, not eating yellow snow has always been good advice. It's better without the "additives"

Lupo, I agree with you, it's not what I would call pink. It's almost a light purple. Maybe a nice lime green would look good for the lettering and heralds. I checked out the upcomimg Woodland Scenics autos. Very nice!. I can see a need for several of them on the Murphy Branch.

Der, let us know how you like the P/S oily black for weathering turnouts. That sounds like it could be an easy solution.

Teffy, could you use a tempory plywood bridge in place of the tresle to get that area up and running? I've done it in several places, fastening the plywood at both ends and laying bridge track over it. I don't solder the rail joiners at either end of the bridge track and usually don't have to add feeders to the bridge track. This way I can postpone building the bridge or trestle and doing the river and scenery until later. Just an idea, but it might work for you.
I'm glad you were able to get the loco going, more or less, without having to use a hammer on the running gear.

Fergie, I believe I'd go with a nice, high gloss paint. 5000 gallons ought to do it. If you come in lower when you make your run you won't have as much dispersion due to wind drift and you'll get much better coverage.

Robert, if you do get Teffy's stuff, can you get a better deal on paint stripper by buying in quantity? I think it might take a whole lot of it.

I've got to go folks, It's time to go hit it.
Have a great day, everybody,
Tom

Good Morning All:

Fergie:
That house looks like the paint is the only thing holding it together.

I'm Being very cooperative, I found out what was wrong with the drive train and remmeded that, so only 1/2 of it works - that's not my fault. Would you be interested in selling this loco for what it's worth (now) and not what you paid for it?

About the scouts, this badge fair was held in the gym of one of the local churches. I've seen School districts that didn't have a gym that was as nice as this facility. Try and see it you could use the meeting room in one of the churches or the meeting room at the local Knights of Columbus. Our KC's will let some orginazations use their meeting rooms for free.

I'm running late so let me go.

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember PINK IS BEAUTIFUL

Good Morning! I missed yesterday and had some catching up to do. Please forgive me if I don't know everyone yet, it will take some time to get to know you all!

Tom,
The time span maybe increasing as I am learning more about my family history and incorporating it into the layout plan. As it turns out my great grandfather was a depot agent for the L&N at the Pineville, Louisiana depot back in the 40's through the 50's. And my grandfather's timber company ran pulpwood loads at three L&N yards in central Louisiana from the 40's to late 60's. Doing some more research, I found some old 35mm slides that my grandfather took of the trains and yards.

Ed,
I suspected some sort of petroleum industry! What brought you to Mexico and where in Mexico are you? Sounds like you have a whole grove of citrus, I would love to see images of the crop.

Tim,
You were up late the other night, huh! When you get bit by the bug, it's hard to stop! Keep em rolling! BTW, I brought my camera with me to work today, gonna try to take a few snaps of the streetcars today, weather permitting. Hope to upload them tonight.

Dave,
Gambling in Biloxi, did you win anything? We celebrated out 10th wedding anniversary at the Beau Rivage back in September. I love that place!

Gotta go! Thanks for the refill!

Good morning everyone!!! Boy, that coffee is strong this morning, someone forgot to change the stocking.

It is another beautiful day here in the hills of central MA, the temp is 22 now at 9:45am and headed for near 40. After living with temps in the single numbers for a couple of weeks, this is considered a heat wave.

Tom, did you escape the ice storm down there in the mountains of GA? We saw some vivid pictures on TV of skidding accidents all over the area.

With everyone up in NS going to a PINK color scheme, I wonder if I should consider a change of color for my walls in the Train room? What do you think Luc and JW? This may have far reaching changes in the whole MRR area!!

Ok, time to leave the coffee shop and head off to plastering the walls...... see you guys later today...

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Bob - the e-mail is on the way. Please let me know when you get. BTW I think it is time that we officially reserve PINK exclusively for Fergie. [}:)][;)][:D][:D][:D]
