Hi Paul,   I sympathize with you on the rain and pasture.  I had an alpaca farm in Washington with two acres  of pasture for them and another 10 acres of desert for a horse.  Also an acre of landscaped yard.  We were in the high desert with around 7 inches of moisture a year so we ran sprinklers every day for an hour or so.  Seemed to be chasing water every day.

I used to stand and watch the snow come down.  Now here in Arizona I run out to watch the rain come down.  When you get my age the little things get you.  HA HA.   TARP

hello guys

Its been a while sence I got on here. I have been busy. My wife had our baby boy back in march. They are both doing fine now. Mom was down for about 2 months. So I have a new found respect for mothers. We sold our house and moved closer to my work so my drive went from 2 hours to 15 mins. Thats great!!!!

I had to take down the railroad though. But I will get to start over soon. We plan on moving to texas sometime this year. But it broke my heart to take all that work down. Im getting out of the Navy here in about 10 days. So i get to be home more with my new buddy.

I hope all is well with you guys. I hope to talk to you guys soon

Morning everyone, been a while since I last posted so I decided to brave the dialup and check in.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to all the new folks I've seen while reading at work.  I'm not going to name names, don't want to miss anyone.

RT, good to hear your problem wasn't too serious.

Since my vacation was "flooded out" last month I decided to take a mini-vacation and make this a four day weekend.  I went to Steamtown in Scranton yesterday.  One day is not enough for that place.  I paid for the cab ride in the engine.  That was really interesting.  Talking to the crew there, it takes 60 hours of training to get a pilot's license and 240 hours of training to get licensed to operate a steam engine!  Here's a couple pics:

They have a little of everything from large engines...

to small ones.

This is the one I rode in, a CN Mikado, my favorite type of steamer.

Guess that will do for now.  See you later.

Inch don't blame you for not happy about daughter moving to FL. I lived there for 10 years and was glad to leave (no offense Flip but when family is 1000+ miles away not easy to visit for either.) My point FL is nice place to visit but its not for me the ones there that enjoy great for them its just not for me. Enjoyed my self most the time I was there but its always nice to get atleast close to home.

Mornin all, the farmers special, OJ n coffee, Janie
62, cool nclear out this morning, feels great. Ended up going to Paris with Mother last night, since it was at the DIL's house,. So Kris, me an two of the boys took off running round. We ended up out out the old NYC yard, gotta few pics there, wasn't any engines there, just grain cars.
Got some bad news yesterday, #1 daughter and hers are moving to Florida. We're not happy bouts it, it's bout all we can do to get to Ohio now, let alone there. Next, I was informed, that the oldest grand daughter is going to live with us and go to school here. now I'm not happy. Beths been having trouble with school where she's at, guess it's hard to put a small town kid into a big school.

PC, enjoyed the evening pics

GUMBY, the rant was understandable in your case, and the news people don't help much.

DEKRUIF, we see several haulers out on I-70 every summer, just can't get a photo most the time.

RYAN, looks like progress on the layout, and we chased the  hauler bout a 100 yards. We seen it coming out of a motel parking lot. We're not #20 fans, just thought some would like the pics.

ED, good to have ya back..

Worked on the layout some yesterday, hard to see much progress, but I'm closer to getting some bridges in and more track laid over Mill Creek. Won't get much done today on it, since the weathers nice, I'll be outside. Mother has to be at the fair grounds this afternoon for the mud bog. Needs to get started on chores, hope ya'll has a good day

Another late night for me(insomnia stinks but hate pills), Last night was up until 3:00am slept until 6:30 and here I am writing at midnight Ah Well"Such is the life of the merry one". I actually don't mind being up late, I can get a lot of stuff done at night(just nothing to loud,I don't wake the boys, bad, bad, bad, idea!!!). Any way I have been fighting with my tunnel trying to set it up so I could remove it in the event of break down(not on my watch of course) Finall can up with a nonconventional idea. I started by weaving some stiff wire through some plastic canvas(In case you don't know thats that plastic stuff crafters use to make alot of "useful?" things) The canvas is fairly flexable but doesn't hold shape alone, the wire enabled me to manipulate the tunnel into the pefect shape, Covered it with news paper(to cover holes) and used a plaster of paris, It worked great and isn't very heavy, best of all I can lift it up for those times when the need arises.

Duke, thanks for the welcome, I don't mind being the only lady in the room as long as it is filled with Gentlemen and so far everyone has been very nice.

Grayfox, Doc wants my total below 200 , next apt. is next month, so I keep striving and praying the combo has always worked for me.

Good Night to One and All

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Just got back home a short while ago.  Fran is busy unpacking and here I am on the computer.  Smile [:)]   Maybe tomorrow I'll start looking at the 12 or so pages that you guys have posted since my last appearance.  The good news is that we have no more trips planned until the end of the month.  We may even head out to the orange grove tomorrow to check on how the crop is coming.

The trip went well.  The convention was nothing special, but it's always good to see some old friends again.  I will write up short summaries of both trips sometime this week, I promise.  Pictures will probably need to wait until I get the Canada trip pictures correctly downloaded from the CD's they're on.

Anyways, just to let you know that we're back and well.

Best regards

Ed

Evening Gang: Would you believe that it rained today? ould you believe it rained yesterday also? IT DID! not a whole lot but itwas wet. We had about a 1/8in yesterday late afternoon and about 1/4in late afternoon today. Not enough to break the drought but something. Of course it's still hot and now it's muggy too.

I mowed what is left of the lawn just befor it rained. I worked about 10 min. and came in to drink some water and rest for a half hour or so than back out. There isn't much grass left so it only took 2 cycles. Thats bad for an acre and a half.

The cows are still getting along but we're feeding a bale a day. We also feed 50lbs of range cubes a day. I hope that we get alittle growth on the pastures with this rain but I think that it may be too late to make a differance. It may help the hay fields. It's supposed to rain again Sat, Sun, and Mon. We'll have to wait and see. Down here when they say scattered thunder stormes it depends on which side of the road you are on to get rain.

Well I'm going to hit the sack. Good Night All

Good evening everyone, a "10" today weatherwise here....70's , a few clouds, a light breeze, low humidity, it doesn't get any better here.

DUKE: Thanks for helping to keep to parking spot open at HD....you and Paul, and PC are doing a great job, I think RYAN is shopping at HD too by the looks of all that wood on his layout pics.

LISA: Great job on weight drop and Cholesterol numbers. I was at 290 the month I retired from work at age 62, then, all the yard work and far better diet at home than at work caused my CH to drop to 215. The HDL is real good at 68, and the LDL is at 129, just under the limit of 130, but...the doggone Triglycerides cause the total CH to be a bit high. And that means still too much saturated fat in diet, I just have to stop eating french fries at Wendy's. LOL

Thats it for now guys, talk later

Good Evening to all, another crazy day Had to finish shopping for school supplies, the boys decieded they wanted to start classes next week(how's that for a turn around, most kids fight going back to school) so that means I 've got to get busy with my lesson plans, we'll most likely start Wed.This means I'll need to do my layout at night. My health problems luckly haven't become anything yet, my blood sugar isn't high by Gov. standards but my Dr. has been monitoring me for several years (my Dad's family has had probles for many generations as well) and he has been see an increase over the last couple of years as for the colestoral (bad spelling)  2 years ago It Was at 280 now It's down to 229 and I have lost 40lbs with another 10-15 to go. I'm watching my diet carefully. Enough of my rambling,I've got work to do.

Bye all

Good afternoon all!

Many threats of thunderstorms but so far not much in the way of rain in our neck of the woods for the past two weeks, we are getting some cooler temps however, and that is a nice change. It has been in the mid to upper 70’s since mid morning and staying there this afternoon too.

Hoople, good to hear the 6% is working well with the 0-6-0 and the 50’ cars!

Dick, sounds like a very productive day of MRing you had there. And welcome to the break from the heat, it sure is nice!

Inch, since we joined the Y this past weekend I have not been in the train room in almost a week! Here are a few of the pics from the layout progress, though they do not represent the latest work:

This is the sub-roadbed for the double mainline run and the newly installed hardboard backdrop.

This is some of the backdrop section before the next phase of the sub-roadbed installation.

Inch, nice pics you got there! How long did you follow that HD truck?

PC, nice picture post card photos of that sun set. You have a great view to look forward to once you settle into the new house!

You all have a great weekend!

Cheers,

Ryan

I don't mind talking politics, but that's why there are a thousand politics forums out there.

I live half the week in NJ and half in PA.  I want to see them justify strip searching Lars Johanssen while Muhammit barely gets his carry-on glanced at.  If the terrorists were brown haired, blue eyed 48 year  old men, I'd expect to be anal probed even if just picking someone up at the airport.  Then the brits held back the info on arrests until they had most of the psychos.  Seems that even so, the Led Namont types are screaming that it was all a Bush plot.  yeah, right.  These silly mooslums got coded messages from VP Cheney and didn't ever have an idea what was going on.  They're all innocent little angels.  Flight 800 was shot down by a kid with a model rocket upgraded to DCC.  The hundreds of fictionally registered democrats in Ohio weren't allowed to vote and so the dems screamed voter fraud.  Lieberman ran for VP and reelection as a Senator at the same time, hedging your bets?

Going for it!  Gore's little book says that you can help stop glowbull warming by not wasting paper(his book is full of family vacation pictures, DUH!)  I can go on and on and on and on.

Kevin is whining now.  Be back later.

Hey guys,

Not much new from me today, although I have made a bit of progress on the module, getting it ready for the next show. I've been touching up a little minor scenery damage from transporting the thing, as well as finishing the scenery around a building I scratchbuild for the module. It's all slowly falling together. If all goes as planned I should have pictures before the end of the weekend to post.

See ya around,

Gumby hit the nail on the head...but instead of doing anything about it (the stupidity part), we accept it to a large extent as necessary for security.  It is not.

Words have been put into frequent media use to make common sense a negative attribute.  If terrorists are trying put explosives on aircraft, then instead of TSA using limited resources searching every single person and their carry on bags for their potential explosives, and causing such tremendous waste in innocent products going to a landfill, why wouldn't the TSA concentrate more on identifying the terrorists and eliminating them from the plane?

Does the word "profiling" come across as negative?  Sure it does, because it's usually tied to the word "racial" and that's just a trigger that nobody wants to touch with a twenty foot pole.

But the fact of the matter is, terrorists for the most part fit a profile.  Innocent people who fit this profile can be screened with dignity and allowed to proceed with minimum changes.  Procedures can be established that will allow security to focus on the most probable suspects.

Too much politics.  Too much political correctness.  Not enough common sense.

No matter what you do, it cannot be set in stone, and the procedures must be constantly changing to prohibit the bad guys from circumventing security.

There is no silver bullet.  But TSA can exercise more common sense in this instance, stop hassling low-probability and innocent people (the great majority), and focus on identifying the bad guys and their tactics.

What we do today in US society is called "shotgunning".  We shoot into the crowd to get the few bad guys...and everyone is wounded in the process.  We do it every day when we create laws and rules meant to stop poor behavior or performance by the few, rules that by design target the innnocent many...instead of confronting the individual who is causing the problem.

We have evolved into a non-confrontational society.  Does the almost-a-word "wussie" sound familiar?

Bad people prey on wussies.

Good morning everyone!

How's everybody doing this morning?

Hi Zoe, just some coffee for me this morning please.  Thanks!

Well, I've finally got most of my schoolwork done.  Just a little more and I'm there.

Went out to the new house yesterday.  It rained most of the day but they managed to get tar paper up on the roof before it hit.  In the evening the rains cleared out some and there was a great senset that I got a few pics of from the master bedroom windows.  Check it out.....
