Another nice day here again for awhile, chance of rain late afternoon n evening.  Found out Mothers plans last evening, she decided WE were going to Terre Haute [rather stay'ed home], but glad I went now. First got a couple train pics over here at the Cline crossing, Then she tried to get to Marshall before him [didn't beat the engines], but got a pic of the last car. Don't know what it's for, but I'd never seen one before. First shot is at the Cline crossing, then Marshall

Like said, don't know what it's for, but I'm guessing military from the car color..

Also picked up some more 3 cars from Walmart and then we went for a steak supper. Wasn't to bad a trip after all.

JERRY, I think your right on the depot, it was Nickle Plate not IC. Didn't NYC use the same one there. May have to get a letter off to Tony anyway. When I was running round up there, only had two things on my mind then,,, racing n girls not trains.

PA,, girl freinds are ok, just don't get stupid bout them at your age. It'll get ya into trouble. Glad yur working on the car.

Model trainlover ,,, I hope you've been single all your life, didn't you say your 14.

Good morning everyone, a beautiful day here today, might even hit 80 before the Canadian front moves through tonight. Apple picking time is in full swing, great crop this year the apples are big and juicy. ED, we have shipped some too you and INCH53 via FERGIE's Virtual RR.

NOAH: So just because I got all of the questions correct ...."I"....."I am an OLD FOGGIE???" I see that you got 2/3 of them correct, so using your own logic, you are 2/3 the way to being an "old foggie yourself" LOL, hehehehehhe.

DUKE: SA !!!!!!!! Yes, they would be useful though.....I think you have hanging around Bill N too much..LOL

MIKE: Thanks for getting the coffee shop open this morning, ZOE had a big night partying and didn't get in until 9am I hear.

Well, it's time to get outside and put the finishing touches on the stone wall behind the house, the CFO wants to get the Fall bulbs planted, etc. so the wall needs to be done..like NOW.

See you guys for lunch,

Good morning everyone. I thought that I could drop in before I headed off to the train store to say Hello again. After I get home from work, I get to change and go straight to the Senior Crab Feast at my school. Mmmm...I love crabs. It's gonna be a fun day.

I checked out that Will You Get Nailed website...Pretty interesting stuff. It's about time that teens are learning about the dangers of the tracks.Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks Everyone for the warm returning welcomes. I've missed this place.Smile [:)]

Happy Jack: I get a pretty good discount on trains. Sometimes, I get them at almost cost. It's great. I feel like family when I'm there, and Mr. Purkey and I could almost be father and son. It's awesome.Big Smile [:D]

PC: I'll need to stop by Rails of the World when I have a chance. I hope Jeff isn't upset since I've been gone so long.

Inch: I'm trying not to overload myself. But if I want to make near as much as I did at Bose, I need both of these jobs. I am putting school first though. If it becomes too much...I need to drop one of the jobs. OH! That car is a nuclear container car! It's used for transporting various nuclear, and possibly radioactive materials.

SilverSpike: Yeah...Not many people can juggle school, two jobs, AND various miscellaneous activities. Either I'm that good...Or I'm completely out of my mind.Tongue [:P]

Jim in CG: I did talk with Tom about the Sykesville/Westminster area...And he said that a store there would steal business from both Hagerstown and Columbia stores, and there is no prime spot for a store in a major mall...And he's right...The malls aren't anything spectacular. 3 Jobs??? I'm not that crazy.Eight Ball [8]

Welp, gotta go. Catch y'all later.

Heck, once they get to Duluth, why not just load them on a lake boat and ship them here?  We have a port.

Still a good deal........ even with the long routing  ;-)

Evening Gang: I spent the day working on cleaning up at the pecan tree. After another 6 hours it's getting to look good. It makes picking up the nuts easy when the ground is bare earth. Of course befor we can begin picking I'll have to blow the leaves off but that is easy compared to the clean up that I've been doing.

Yes, I did give Ed a good deal. Of course he hasen't seen the shipping bill yet. Three railroads are involved in the move before they get to Eds. The Kos Lake Narrow Gauge picks up the nuts at the trees and hauls them to the processing plant. At the plant they are cleaned and graded and packed in bags. Then they are loaded in a box car and the Kos Lake and South Clear Fork Railroad takes them to an interchange with the Duluth, Superior, & Southeastern. The D.S.& S.E. takes them to the interchange with Ed's railroad. Just because the routing goes to Duluth and back to the U.S./ Mexico border does not mean that I use favoritism in my routing.Evil [}:)]Smile [:)] Much.

Well I'm beat so I'll be heading for bed.

Will you get nailed? debuts on internet

Teenagers, at an age where, of course, they already know everything in life, are sometimes difficult to reach with the Operation Lifesaver railroad safety message.  Still, teens driving vehicles are most vulnerable to vehicle crashes -- sometimes with a train.

Now, a teen website, www.willyougetnailed.com attempts to familiarize young drivers with the serious consequences if their vehicle (4,000 pounds) tries to beat a train (12 million pounds) at the crossing.  Young adults are also killed and seriously injured walking or recreational vehicle riding among other activities while trespassing on private railroad property.  The new website includes a quiz and information about the inherent dangers at crossings and along railroad right of way.

Maine Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit 501(c)3 public education and information program dedicated to reducing collisions, injuries, and fatalities at railroad crossings along Maine's nearly 1,200 miles of active rail lines. Maine Operation Lifesaver also works to make the public aware of the dangers of trespassing on private railroad property.

Members of the state committee include mostly current and retired officials representing Maine's railroads, private industry, Maine Department of Transportation, and the Federal Railroad Administration. These volunteers meet monthly to coordinate and carry out related presentations and projects statewide. Activities are funded primarily by the state's rail carriers.

Nationwide, Operation Lifesaver programs exist in 49 states and have contributed significantly to the more than 50 percent reduction in crashes and fatalities at railroad crossings. In Maine, statistics reveal a sharp decrease in such crashes from 23 collisions killing three and injuring nine others in 1990  to six incidents in 2004 resulting in one injury and one fatality. However, in Maine and elsewhere, trespassing incidents are on the rise and are a new focus of Operation Lifesaver efforts.

Around the country, there were more than 3,000 crashes in 2004, killing 369 and injuring 1,038 others. 480 people were killed last year in related trespassing incidents caused by such things as walking and motoring along tracks and railroad bridges, throwing objects at trains and placing objects on the tracks, and hitching joyrides on trains.

Inch, I’d say the test is more for “old fogies” as it was put, as well as students of those who are a little wiser than the rest of us.Wink [;)] I got 10 (and a half) out of 15 and I was born in the early 90s. I guess I just know my recent history!

PA, that photo in your signature, it wouldn't have been taken at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin, would it? The Bangor and Aroostok BL2 looks like the one a fellow named Glen monhart owned. And I belive that the locomotive behind that one is another BL2 also owned by Mr. Monhart, but it was painted in the colors of the Janesville and Southeastern Railroad. Do you happen to have a bigger version of the picture? I'm just kind of curious since it looks like something I'm familiar with.

Just hanging on in Wisconsin guys. The first week of school hasn’t been too bad so far, although it’s good to see it finally over! Let’s see now, only 176 days of school to go......

Inch, I wish you didn't say the test was for old fogies because I only got one wrong and I hope I'm not a fogie yet.

Things are going pretty well here MIL is still going down hill but thats to be expected. Not a lot of train time but I am pleased with my boys progress with school, I don't see any problem with them for this year. My step dad is getting his strength back after his radiation so things are looking up, God is good to us. My prayers are with all in need.

Good morning everyone, thanks Mike mfor getting the first pot of coffee brewing and saving some honey glazed doughnuts for FERGIE, he gets cranky if their all gone you know!!!!

MIKE: Excellent phots as usual, btw, NG contacted me and said that the photographers job is still open if you wanted it Mike.

A summers day here today, going into the 80's, clear skies, no wind. But, we have a Fall cold wave due here next week just in time to make sure that the next hurricane stays well out away from the NE coastline.

Too hot to work up in the garage where PhaseII MRR layout is being planned. Without all the insulation in the walls and rafters yet, and an 80F day, I would lose 10# up there sweating away and the harrassment of trying to keep my glasses free of water droplets.
We closed up the pool yesterday, we won't get much more of this hot weather, but it made me sad to cover that 68F , clear blue water until next May.

See you guys at lunch time.......rejoice all you who are still in the work force..IT'S FRIDAY !!!!

OzJim, was sorry to hear about Steve Irwin’s death, and even though the family decided against the state funeral, I’d agree that he deserved one for all he’s done for wildlife (not just the crocs). Whose covered hoppers are those in your pics of the well cars - Athearn, Walthers, Bowser, or...? I am accumulating some early covered hoppers - for my layout’s era (mid-to-late-50’s), the 2993 cu.ft. ones are about the latest ones that will fit (Airslides are too new).

JimCG: they are Athearn RTR 2993ft  Hoppers,  the build dates on my individual models are 10-56 for the ATSF ones and 11-55 for the Cotton Belt ones. They are a nice looking little freight car!

With regards to Steve, there is gaining momentum for the 4th of September to become National (International) Khaki day or Khaki ribbon day.
I MAY   Jump on the train on Sunday to Beerwah where Australia zoo is and get some pics of the shrine that is building up(and of trains) I'm not promising anything but you never know.

all for now Oz

Good evening, Chloe - I'd like just a cup of coffee tonight. Have to fast for the ol’ cholesterol/etc. tests tomorrow a.m. with my doctor. At least, after the tests I can go get breakfast before the actual doctor’s appointment.

Have been cutting and piecing the cork (like the roadbed sheets, but I got it a while back and had stored it in my storage shed - originally was going to make my own corkboard, but then decided last year that it would make better ‘free’ roadbed instead). I now have 95-99 percent on one of my two sections glued down and about ready for re-laying track. Need to get a roll of white paper or tracing paper to draw the outlines on the other section, though. Too much work trying to trim a piece of cork that's a bit large, and otherwise I end up with gaps between the roadbed and the new pieces. But a little progress is still progress. Smile [:)] Next, I’m thinking of getting some Sculptamold or such to fill in some cracks (and carve for some smaller rock outcroppings. I have a Woodland Scenics rock mold I’ll use for bigger rock areas.

Nice pics of the ore dock (forgot who posted them, but good job, whoever it was).

RT, good to hear you have power back on - that sounds like a workable deal your landlord has on controlling the problems with tenants. Wink [;)] At least now that you have power, you should be able to do some work on your MRR’ing again. Yeah!! [yeah]

OzJim, was sorry to hear about Steve Irwin’s death, and even though the family decided against the state funeral, I’d agree that he deserved one for all he’s done for wildlife (not just the crocs). Our weather felt like Indian summer today (or has that been changed?) - high in the mid-80’s and the humidity was still low. This weekend is when our fair starts, I realized. I was just rushing it a bit... Cool nights, down in the 50’s (which would feel better if I could get some more airflow through the apartment without hearing everyone in our parking lot or driving by. (My bedroom windows face either on the parking lot or the front street)

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back Colby. I figure you’ll be able to figure most of what’s going on now (which might be pretty close to some of the stuff we were doing the last time you were in the Shop!)Wink [;)]

Hoople, I’d second Inch’s comments about your teachers - from my own school days, it was the weird teachers who taught me a lot of the stuff that I still remember and am interested in. Yeah!! [yeah]

PA Belt, I’d Sign - Ditto [#ditto] what PC said - the car will become more important over time, anyway. Thumbs Up [tup]

And Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back to you too, Scott - glad you have your jobs. Can you maybe talk Bose into opening a store in Sykesville and go for three jobs? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Ed, I’d like to hope that the Cardinals and the Red Sox would wind up in the Series this fall, but the Cards have been having trouble stringing 2 or 3 wins together lately... Now, if they could have good pitching and good hitting regularly in the same game...Sigh [sigh]

Actually, it sounds like several CS’ers have been making good progress on your layouts lately. Is it the crisp fall air that does it, or what?

‘Bout time for me to head home for the night. Seems strange to have to brush my teeth tonight after not eating dinner (but I had a late lunch...). Will see what the doctor finds out tomorrow - and he’d better not order any new Censored [censored] procedure$... (mutter, mutter,...).

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
