Good morning all, been out of commisson for a few days, back was out (again) the Doc. wants to do an MRI to see exactly how bad the disk in my back is Oh well. Not able to work on the layout either(stupid back). MIL still doing poorly but Step- Father is feeling great, hopefully it will be a while before any more treatment is needed. Prayers go out to all in need .

Unlike Paul, you get a chance to see what I have to offer. I think I can give you a better price than Paul because I don't route them on my railroad.

I'm always ready to negotiate a deal for some of our famous Orange Juice.  I'm not much of a pecan lover, but they are a favorite of Fran's.

 

Last week while waiting at a red lite I saw an engine going into the old Hercules Plant in Hattiesburg. Could't get a good picture but I did see that it was an IC #9605. .....Maybe someone can tell me what kind of engine this is in that I really don't know a lot about desiels.

Unless I miss my guess, that's a GP-38-2.  Actually, it's more than a guess.  Check here to see the current roster of IC locomotives:

Man, I didn't realize that I was that much of a blabbermouth!  2999 posts now!  WOW!  I had a lot of worthless things to say!  I just hope I said something useful somewhere in there!

As long as I stay moving the car doesn't get hot right now, and staying moving isn't real hard with all the country roads around here.  As far as doing the job, it's one of those modular V6 deals that Ford came out with about a decade ago, so changing it is a real bear!  My thought is, it was a free car, and I have an extra car right now, so if the engine blows I'll just send it to the scrapyard and drive the other one.  I don't want that to happen, but if it does.......

Good morning everyone, another stunning day here in New England, clear skies, 58F, no wind, and the Fisher Cat has returned, the little devil ran across the yard at 7:30 swipped another pear from the tree and made a mad dash to the woods.

Did any of you guys catch the DIY channel this morning? Working on the Railroad series? They showed the San Diego MRR Museum, 4 layouts, 28,000, that is correct, 28,000 square feet of layout!!!! What a drool job that was!!!! They actually commissioned a pilot to fly over the "T" loop in California so that they would have the most accurate rep of the 8 scale miles they model.
Then, Mr. Anderson, MRR Master builder, illustrated building Athearn car kits, and how we save 60% of cost over RTR. He did an upgrade to the kit as well to metal wheels.

PC: you are now at 2998 posts, you "will" be drafted to the Army as soon as the Democrats get back in power and reinstate the draft.
The Thermostat isn't changed YET in your car??? Don't you remember what Abe Lincoln said?? "Never put off until tomorrow, what you can and should do today". I don't care if it IS raining out, GET THAT THERMOSTAT CHANGED !! LOL

I don't get into this coffee shop very much, being busy on many other forums as I am. Pc, it sounds like you've got a big job ahead of you, what with the move and all. You really should replace the thermostat in the car, changing out a cracked cylinder head ain't fun, especially when it's a high performance engine like mine, where a cylinder head can cost over $1,000. OUCH!

A fine morning it is too!  Wet, but fine!  It's raining here.  Been raining since last night.  I was kind of hoping to have the chance to work on my car last night as the thermostat needs changed, but oh well.  See, I have to work outside right now as the garage is full of stuff thats ready to move to the new house at the end of the month.

Well it looks like I am  way behind on the mail again.

Belated [bday] PC: Sorry I missed the party but that sure was a beautiful cake Mike's Misses backed for you. I remember 41 just like it was yesterday. You see that's when I met MoM. We where married three years later. That was 21 years ago. This has been some of the best 21 years of my life. Wouldn't trade them for all the tea in China. 

SCOTT: Great poem. I think it will be a long time before anyone forgets 9/11 and the kaos of that day. Excellent job!

NEWS FLASH: NEWS FLASH: The train room in Hattiesburg is about 50% complete. The contractor told me yesterday it should be complete by this Friday. I'll post some before and after pictures when it's complete.

Good Morning All,

   Haven't caught up on the last book of posts, but we're  now back off the road for a couple of weeks (well almost - we're sending two crew and two cars to Road America Weds am). Watkins Glen went ok, we ended up running 12 cars but lost two to a 6 car wreck at the top of the esses, and one motor went south. At least the injuries were limited to a couple of bruises. The worst part of the weekend was my friends wife falling out of their car during the re-enactment parade downtown and getting run over. Talking to the officials, they will require seat belts for all occupants in future as a prerequesit for participation. Many of our British friends come over here with no belts whatsoever in their race cars (that's how they did it then mate). Lime Rock the week before was better with only a few issues on the four cars and three class wins. I hope to get smoe MRR time in and get aback to the museum yard this week as I hear the DL-701 is getting lonely without me chipping on its' paint.

A short remembrance in honor of the victims of 9/11/01:

In respect of those who were affected by the terrorist attacks five years ago today, to the innocent victims and the surviving family members we offer our thoughts and prayers in the memory of those who have gone before us. Amen

Also, a continued thank you goes out to those who continue to protect our freedoms and liberty in the face of terrorism home and abroad.

The weekend went just about as planned. I got a large portion of benchwork completed on the layout Friday, the north wall portion of the bracket sections for the lower level are completed. I also extended the double mainline sub-roadbed 8 more feet and printed out the next 8 foot section for the next cookie-cutter cuts.

Saturday was busy; we all got haircuts and then went to the NCSU football game, a lot of fun even though we lost to the Akron Zips on the last play of the game. We had seats at the 10 yard line on the 15^th row and got to sit in front of both the NCSU touchdowns on our side of the field. I am still horse this morning, I tend to yell a lot at football games.

Then we went to the Family Fall Festival at Camp Kanata, it is a YMCA camp just west of Wake Forest. We went canoeing around in the lake, then went to the archery field and attempted to shoot at a target set out 20 yards, then Ben and I played some basketball in the gym, and attempted to get to the rifle range but the activities ended so we went to the dining hall and had dinner, then to the campfire for smores.

Ok, so here goes about five pages of catching up since my last post on Thursday…

Jim, sounds like your layout is coming along too! I have been working on that same stage on my layout, lots of cork gluing.

Great questions there Inch, I got just about all of them too… not sure if that is a good thing though. Hey now, that looks like one monster of an ice cream making machine attached to that John Deere… What flavor you makin?

Paid $3.00 for each piece can’t beat a $6.00 suit used for landing a full time job! You’d be surprised what great finds you can stumble on at second hand stores!

HEDWARD: I cannot add to what you have said so well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, our MRR people are truly a group of extraordinary people in the finest sense of the word.

RT: When our loved ones suffer, we often ask "why". But it may well be the preciousness of life itself that causes us to "hang on " through all our pain and suffering, not wanting to leave this world and those we love.

JERRY: Yes, I love this time of the year in New England the best. I enjoy all the seasons, but early Fall with it's exceptional weather, crystal clear skies, very refreshing, clean air, and colors that no one can justify in paintings what God has given us to appreciate.

The view out our back window when I was a young boy, was towards lower Manhattan.  We watched as they built the towers.  We saw the sunsets between the them.  I was there in 1976 to see King Kong laying in the square.  I visited the top of the towers with friends, a second cousin visiting from Germany, three girlfriends but not once with my lovely and wonderful wife.  Had there been no loss of life, I would still be feeling the same.  The WTC was a part of my life.  A part of what I called home.  To have known, even breifly, several of those firefighters, trainees and friends of my uncle a retired fire Captian, and to have even interviewed with a company whose offices were there, and to have lived in communities who have lost hundreds of neighbors and friends, this is all very very personal for me.  While I can be thankful for my life and those of the people closest to me and my family, I feel this anger, pain and sadness at some level each and everyday.  We are told constantly to be tolerant of other's beliefs.  Well, they not only do not tolerate ours, but they actively seek to destroy anyone who believes differently than they do.  The events of the eleventh of September, 2001, were not a matter of a failed American foreign policy.  They are a result of a failure to recognise the pure evil of people who would rejoice in the streets to the news of three thousand innocent lives taken.  There is no moral, rational reason to tolerate the practice of an alledged faith that seeks the death of us all.

In honor of the attacks that took place on September 11, 2001; the attacks on the World Trade Center Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the brave people of Flight 93, I have found the inspiration to continue my poetry work, and have combined it with my Photoshop works to create a piece for the Fifth Anniversary of 9/11.

Good morning to everyone, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who lost friends and loved ones on 9/11.

It is a clear, cool and beautiful day here today, 56F, and a typical September day in New England. Today the grass needs to be cut, so that will be the order of the day.

I noticed that there are many Maple trees that have lost all their leaves this year. The strange thing is, it seems to be only one variety of Maple tree, the type that has all the red buds and butterfly thingies that float down each Spring when the leaves are coming out. Other Maple trees of another variety are in full green leaf and no signs of trouble at all. Hmmmmmm, may be due to the excessive amount of rains in April and May.

After grass cutting, I think I will head to the 2nd floor of the garage, cool enough today to work on Phase II of MRR layout....wallboard and insulation...ohh, and I must run the electrical wiring to the 2nd floor, how can I forget that !!!
