Oinion skin paper, that would take a bunch of cutting.  Working on flat black 70 ton hopper cars.  If I could figure out how to tell the printer to put down twice as much ink I think I would be in good shape.  I tried to run the smae sheet twice, it almost worked but not well enough.

The pool is 20 feet from the house, the pool pump is right beside the house. I think this is a case of an old pipe that finally rusted through. We're on dense white clay on top of slate. White clay is as hard as rock and it takes a lot to get through it.

You say you're using an Alps printer? I'm using a HP 3930 Deskjet. I can set it as high as 1600 dpi if I have to, but it normally does a good job at 800 dpi.

I bought a HO scale train set today . Yep I strayed away from my O gauge. But the only thing that got me to do it was it is more or less its 3 rail ac just like my O gauge (its a Marklin set ) Will get you some picks later its an engine with 3 hot liquid cars with it.

Well I haven't had the privilege of digging through white clay (and no I'm not volunteering, LOL).  I had black clay in South Texas and brown and blue clay here in Ohio.  I can't imagine anything worse than blue clay; you get a shovel full of it then you have to scrape it off with your foot or something, at least brown and black will fly off the handle when heaved.  We dug out the footer drain at my Aunt's house this past summer and we broke down and got a backhoe to do the hard work.

 

The Alps will do 1200dpi, the only problem is the yellow is to thin and basically disappears when transferred to the flat black car, I guess I'll wait and buy a white cartridge for it on pay day.

Started on module #2 today, the yards.  Took this week off so I should get a bunch of work done to it I guess.  I inventoried my turnouts and I seem to have acquired 90 turnouts over the last 3 years of train shows, lol I hope I have enough.

I Had fun today got to run my freinds hobby shop by myself from 11 to 3. it was real slow till the end I did a sale for $180.00 so that made up for it. I also bought about $42.00 myself with my  discount it would have been 58.00 so it was worth it lol.

CFO is going to kill me if I don't stop soon lol. I really like the Marklin set I got at least its still 3 rail and ac not dc.

That’s our next trip in, so let’s hope that’s the case. I was looking at the ad for those CN 5 axel C-Liners in MR. Transition seems to be seeping into your basement empire in a serious way.

Jeff ( and PC): keep those food pics coming please. Filling up my “Food” file very nicely! Sounds like the pump may have to be moved to get a good fix for that pipe. Good thing you went round, eh?

What brand of printer? Some I’ve had have software that lets you set ink levels. I’ve get at it via Properties on my present HP printer’s “Set Up”. Properties>Basic>Advanced> Light to Heavy (on a slider)

RT: What with Fergie going Diesel, and you going HO, even if it is 3 rail, there is a definite shift in the Force! I guess you are just seeing what On2 ½ looks like.

I just got a Mantua Hudson off E-Bay for $50 shipped [:-D].  Saw a similar one at the Train Show that was up here in October for $48, so I'm happy with the price.

 

I can't wait to get my hands on it and get to tinkering with it.... minimally it needs a KD on the tender, provided I can figure it out - it'll get one on the pilot as well.

 

and if all goes well,  I'll win a pair of Pacifics in a day and a half as too[:-D]

Dan, those Matua (TYCO) locomotives are great, I have 6 of them myself.  Most of mine need new motors since the forward motor brush are worn out.  Let me know how you did the front coupler.  None of mine have a spot for one and it will be interesting to hear how you put one on.  The train show in Parma at the UAW hall is a great place to buy them, you just have to look under the tables in the boxes of "stuff" for sale.

 

Der, I have an Alps MD-1000.  I did get some advice from the fellows at the Alps printing Yahoo group to print white first then print the yellow over top of it.  Heck if that's the case then I will just do all of them in white.  The printer has a ton of settings, but nothing for the amount of ink to be applied to the paper.  This Alps is a Micro Dry printer, the ink is water proof and fade proof.  It all looks good on paper, but once applied it's a little weak.

 

All, Just went outside to start the girlfriends car and brush the snow off of it.  Looks like I have 4" on the ground and it's still snowing rather well outside.  I'll give the neighbors a little more time to sleep then I'll be starting up Eleanor (my snow blower, anything that cost that much money gets a female name around here, lol).  A tea house... Do I have to buy a tie-dyed shirt to chat in here now?  Just kidding.  I'll stick to my coffee, thanks.

Lee, The only Mantua I have (currently) is a 0-4-0 - It's also pre-TYCO.  Got it at the Berea show in October.  Since it's a switcher, it either came drilled/tapped for 2-56 on the front (through the rear was smaller... that was a treat to enlarge), or the previous owner had drilled and tapped that hole. I'm probably making a gross assumption that I can get a KD on the front of the Hudson (and any of the other loot I'm bidding on) , though from the pictures it looks like there's already a spot milled out (just above the pilot) that would accept a KD, though it might need a little "convincing" (IE enlargement of the hole)

Weekend flew buy so quick, I had to look in the rear view mirror to see what happened.

Let's see, a recap of the events:

Friday night - out to dinner (pizza) and groceries

Saturday - wrapped Christmas presents (all nestled snuggly under the tree) and attached 7 of 11 staging tracks onto the roadbed with latex caulk. Yeah, I worked on the layout! Went out to dinner with friends and listened to some blues.

Sunday - More Christmas shopping and then watched the Saints game, yeah, Saints 34 - 49ers 10! Reggie Bush was hot with 4 touchdowns, a banner day! And another ½ hour of putting down 2 more staging tracks onto the roadbed with latex caulk.

Back to work now!

Only 21 days until Christmas.....

Philip, let me know how the "Milk Tart" comes out! Might try it after the holidays! 

Jerry, yup, she is very funny and writes well too! I always remember her on the old Family Feud's with Richard Dawson; she was funny on that show too!

NO! I am not going iNvisable scale. I'm going to use the track for mine track and the wheel sets to make mine cars.

Paul, thanks goodness we still have someone who is remaining with the ranks. I need to get some reading glasses soon, and I have trouble sometimes with my HO scale being too small.

Good news is I managed to complete two models and cut two new benchwork sections of plywood for my layout.  (3 done, 2 more down, 5 left.)

yep saw those ones.  i got mine (without sound) for $60 shipped, so I think I did pretty good.  I also want to tinker with them, and do the eventual decoder installs myself (stil in DC-land here)

Morning Gang: It is official, I will retire on 2 Feb 06. I'm not getting the vacation since they changed the vacation rules starting Jan 1. I think that I may be coming down with something that will be intermittant for a couple of months.

Ryan: You're having trouble with HO? I'm having trouble with seeing my 4in.scale live steamer. My pressure gauge is 4 inches in diameter just so I can see it. Most of the guys have gauges more to scale. I just wanted to make sure I didn't blow myself up.

BEST LAWYER STORY OF THE YEAR, DECADE AND PROBABLY THE CENTURY.

Charlotte, North Carolina.  A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and
expensive cigars, then insured them against, among other things, fire.

Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great
cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on
the policy the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company. 
 
In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost "in a series of small fires." 

The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the

man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.

The lawyer sued.. and WON! 
 

(Stay with me.) 

 
Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the
& lt; BR>claim was frivolous.  The judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a

policy from the company, which it had warranted that the cigars were

insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without

defining what is considered to be unacceptable fire" and was obligated to

pay the claim.

Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance
company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his
loss of the cigars lost in the "fires".

NOW FOR THE BEST PART..

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him

arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!! 


With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being

used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his

insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000

fine.

This is a true story and was the First Place winner in the recent Criminal

Lawyers Award Contest.
