Well guys, the back is still a little sore from the work yesterday, but not as bad as last night. I took some pain meds and slept most of the night on a heating pad. I think after I have a nice bowl of ice cream, that a nap may be in order. It’s one of those days, if you know what I mean!

Good afternoon gents, spend the morning helping son #2, we had to drill holes in the hitch pin that holds the snow plow blade on his truck. The pins were riding out on him last year dropping the plow blade on one side, so we added two more holes for the cotter pins to allow the hitch pin to move inward further....lots of fun drilling in hardened steel.
The afternoon was spent vacuuming up the last of the darn oaks leaves, the last leaves to fall off the trees. The Pellet stove needed a little cleaning, and the CFO needed 5 more holes drilled in the tops of the Christmas display tables for added buildings.
It has been a full day so far, now I have to get a locomotive and few cars to check out the tracks on her layout to make sure everything still works Ok after a year in storage, the tracks do get oxidized somewhat.

Clear skies so far here today, 64F which is outstanding for November in this part of New England. But I do see the cloud bank to the SW, so the approaching front that gave UP of MI all that snow yesterday will be upon us by tomorrow.

    grayfox:  Thank-you so much.  Sometimes people ask me why I would want to join the military now, "of all times", and it aggravates me that because they hate our president, they seem to hate people like me because we are willing to fight for him.  I have to tell them that I am fighting for our country, and what it stands for, and not a president, even though he is my Commander in Chief, I am fighting for my country.  They still don't understand sometimes.........

And those pancakes do look really good, but my mom made french toast..........

As for those who ask "why" you are joining the Marines, many of us who were or are in the military, have faced the very same questions. Brian.....people have said the same things in this country since the Revolutionary War. I know that many people do not like our President, but that is because they have not looked into his heart. And they want us out of Iraq too. So do I, but not until we have given the good Iraqi everyday person the right to live in peace with a strong Democracy and religious freedom, whether Kurd, Sunni or Shiite.
If we do not stop terrorists and fanatics over there, we WILL be fighting them here, of that I have absolutely no doubt.
I was thinking last night as I was in bed, if I had never got back into model railroading, I would never have met all the great people in this forum and the Coffee Shop in particular. I get to talk via this format with great people all over this planet, and it makes me feel like we are one big extended family......
So Brian, make sure you get back into this coffee shop after basic training, because you have PLENTY of supporters here!!!!

greyfox:  Thats really cool, I mean Brian is a really cool name, not that I am biased........


I am also applying for a ROTC scholarship as well, so I can be an officer and fly.  If I dont get it I will get my degree while in the Reserves, then go through PLC and OCS, and then fly.  The Marines are actually short of aviators right now so it should work.....

Thanks again for all your support, it really does mean a lot.  And thanks for all the drinks!  Living in the desert makes one very thirsty!  And, the U of A beat CAL 20-24!

Evening Gang: Well I tried to get on the PeoplePC tonight and struck out. It's a good thing that I was able to get on through EV1.

Dick: I never got to Ft. Bliss. I did my basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood. Then I went to Ft Wolters Tex for primary flight training and on to Ft. Rucker Ala. for advanced and graduation. After graduation I went to Viet Nam. When I got back I went back to Ft. Wolters to be a TAC officer and later a flight instructor. That's were I was discharged in 1972.

The train show was pretty good. There were alot of layouts there and a couple being constructed. I didn't see alot that I needed. I did find 2 MDC taper side ore cars and a Bachman G wood ore car. I didn't even see any books that I didn't have or needed. I must have been in this hobby too long. I'll swing back there on my way home to see if there might be any bargins.

Well I think that I'll try PeoplePC again. I did try and send them a reply to there welcome E-mail. I'll try and use the EV1 connection. With the tone of my E-mail that would be appropreate.

Brian, I wish you the best of luck. What those dummies don't appreciate is their freedom to express themselves without having to look over their shoulders to see who might be listening .

FREEDOM from fear is what we have gained from people like you. I was darned lucky. I was in the army right after Korea and out before Nam. God had/has other plans for me.

We have many Veterans in this hobby and quite a few in the CS. I think I can speak for all of them and wish God will look after you.

Brian: I know what you mean about the desert and being thirsty. I was sent to Fort Bliss and White Sands 5 times while in the Army for Missile training. I must have drank a case of Carte Blanca and Cruz Blanca, but that was way back in 1959 - 1962 time period.
I saw parts of the AZ game, good game!!

PAUL: You were 10 years after me, but I see you were not at Fort Bliss. All I can remember was the 1st day in the barracks when those B59 took off right over the Barracks, I had never seen one that close before, it nearly scared me to death I though it coming right into the roof.

While we were in Mattoon yesterday, we went down to the IC yard, and found these 3. UP #9587, IC #6008, and IC #1020 heading Decatur, IL.

Jerry,,, it was good to get there and the locomotive would have been a lot warmer than standing out in that N. wind. Some times I wish I could still drive it. Was a lot of work, but fun too.

I checked Wally world in Charleston, for your box cars and they didn't have any. Did get me a 55 chevy though. We should be up in Paris sometime this week, I'll look there again.

Good morning, Windy and a high of 42 today. A busy morning down at the docks, looks like a German ship is picking up steel coils this morning for export. I haven't seen the RR tracks down there used since spring. Today I'm going to start work on my custom 135' turntable kit and make some repairs to the round house. I want to finish the first section of the new layout by the first.

Good Sunday morning to everyone, thank you Lord for giving us another week with our friends.

Today it is very foggy here, visability is down to about 500 feet, the temp is 55F, DP is 55F ( hewnce the fog ) and the Rh is 98%, wind is 4 mph from the NE. It looks like several days of the same weather from this "cut-off" Low Pressure system along the Atlantic coastline south of New England.

Last night I put the IHC Pacific, Maine Central #470 on the Christmas Village display tracks and she ran just fine. I picked this up a year ago, (used), it looked like it was in mint condition, so I bought it. I don't know how she will do pulling any cars up the incline though, as I only had the tender attached for the break-in runs. She seemed a little hesitant on the slope, so I'm concerned about the number of cars she can pull. I don't have much experience with IHC steam engines, except that they are on the cheaper side of the ledger.
