Well on the road again folks.  I may get a chance to "borrow" a computer and stop by.  Also, there is a little home computer upgrade in the future.  That may keep me offline longer than the rest.

Have fun and be safe.

I'm in jersey this week.  Back in PA next week.  Family keeps me moving.

Is there a recap on that ebay storyline?  Seems with all the attention, it should have it's own thread.

I bought a pasenger car on eBay listed as having a broken hooker.  At the end of the train, I didn't care if it had a coupler or not.  A hooker?  Please, I don't want one of those broken or not.

Evening all!

James, sorry to hear of your troubles.  Don't worry, you're in the right here.  It'll all come out as to who's who and what's what.

RT, I didn't mean to not address your issue the other day.  I noticed, and I've been parying for your family.  That's a horrible condition that just robs you of your life.  I've had friends with it and I know what you're going through.  I'll keep bringing your family before the King.

Well, I just got back from the new house.  It's got stairs and a roof, so now I can go up and check out my train room (FINALLY!!!!).  Here's the house.......

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/House/Captured2006-8-700008.jpg

And here's the view out of the master bedroom (the lake is VERY low right now)......

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/House/Captured2006-8-700003.jpg

And I saved the best for last.  Here's most of the new train room.......

I know, it doesn't look like much to get excited about, but it's all mine!

Good evening everyone, well it was back to hot and humid today, even though the temp was 82F it felt like 102 up in the garden under full sun. Everything in the garden is coming on strong now, it always happens when the sun is on it's way back south, the plants know, and they kick into high gear production stage.
I can see lightening to my north and hear the thunder in the distance, there is quite a strom heading east between my house and Lisa's, running along the MA/NH border, they are getting it good!!!

I started to clean and organize the garage this afternoon after it got too darn hot to work in the garden. The second floor of the garage has attic thrusses, so I have an area that is 12 feet by 29 feet all free at over 8' head height, so I have an idea to use this area for a future layout in three seasons. For winter, I would have to supply heat, and that would have to be probably electric heaters, as I have plenty sitting around from the conversion of our house to FHW heat. But first, I need to complete the layout in the lower level room. All good to think ahead right guys ?
I wonder if Fergie had any run-ins with Polar bears?

LISA: Yes, I know where Raymond is ( RT101 ), we were at a camp ground in Raymond several years ago. It is not on our route north to the mountains as we head up 293 to 93 at exit 10, well west of you. Maybe I can send a flare up from the toll booth!!!

Getting late, so bon soir mais amis,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good morning! Some toast with spray margarine and some hot tea too!

Worked out at the Y last night, ran 2 miles in 35 minutes and signed
up for a belay course, reserved a racquetball court for Wednesday
night and signed up for a personal orientation session in the wellness
center. Looking to get fit and loose some weight while having fun too!

No train room work yesterday, but I did review some scenery techniques
that I will attempt on a small diorama first as I test out a new procedure
a la Joe Fugate!

PC, your house is going up quickly and nice pics too! Do you have a
layout designed already to fit the train room dimensions? Yea, Felix the
Cat, huh!

Dick, great idea for the new layout in the garage area, and plenty of
space to boot! Sounds like a plan!

Inch, Oh, soy beans huh! Will I ever get it right? I thought that was
peanuts!!

RT, prayers for mother! Congratulations on loosing 35 lbs, what are
you doing to get the lbs. off?

Lisa, making daily progress on the layout is great, keep up the good
work!

Cheers,
Ryan

Good Morining Everyone!

You're all right, it is Felix the Cat!  Go to the head of the class!  I ran across him last night while surfing and realized I hadn't thought about him in years.  Thought I'd share that.

Chloe, I believe there's a pot of coffee over there with my name on it.  Could you bring that baby over here please?  Thanks!  Lot's of finals in school this week!  Lots of midnight oil being burned over here!  Once I get done though, I get a 4 week break.  Thats the first break, except for holidays, in two years!

Ryan, I do have a plan that I'm working on.  It's getting real close to done.  It's a double decked N scale layout that has hidden staging undernieth.  I've shown it around  a little bit, asking for opinions, but I wouldn't mind hearing some fresh ones from you and everyone else.  It's a fictional road called the Autumns Ridge Railway & Navigation Co.  The concept is an interchange (really just more of a car drop off point) with the Maine Central on the lower scenicked level, and then the rest of the layout is based around the fictional shortline RR that takes off from there.  I like to see trains run, so there aren't a lot of stops on the way, but there's enough to justify it's exsistance.  As the train leves the lower level it enters a helix that takes it up to the next level.  The helix rises to a height that's above the rest of the tracks on the top level so that the trains run downhill to the docks at the end of the line.

Here's the staging level.  It probably needs the most work to get it to flow right.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/Blank3004-1R1.jpg

Then this is the lower scenicked level with the interchange.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/Blank3004-2R7.jpg

Here's the top level with the small port town of Autumn's Ridge as the terminus (unless you count the car ferry).

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/Blank3004-3R4.jpg

Here's a bit closer shot of Autumn's Ridge.  The red is the backdrop.  The town rises up from the shoreline up a hill.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/Blank3004-3R4_edited.jpg

The real Belfast & Moosehead Lake RR was the inspiration for this.  Many of the track arrangements are very similar to the real arrangements on the B&ML.  Here's a link to some info I've compiled over the years on the B&ML if you're interested.

http://jeffreywimberly.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=shortlines&action=display&thread=1154549258

There's still some minor tweaking to do here and there, but I think it's pretty close.

So,......got any ideas?

Hey guys, I'll take a banana shake on PCs tab this morning. Start the old Credit card off warming up early this morning.....

Not a whole lot new from me today guys, I'm still just working on the module again. I'm working on some of the wiring and getting ready to put in a mini-control panel on the back of the module with switches for shutting different tracks on and off. Then I've got a little scenery work I want to do too, touching up a few small spots that have been damaged in transport and such. It's all slowly coming together....

PC, the track plan looks great! And the prototype info is a real bonus too! You have really put a lot of planning into it all, I am sure it is going to look great once you get started with construction of the layout.  I like main line runs, and you have just enough space for switching activities as well. Great job!

PC: I like the track plan. I tried to print it out but could not get the whole thing on a page. I tried different settings and that didn't work. I'll try later.

I just finished getting the park checked out. Since we open an hour later now I can get a little more done that I need to. You can't get a whole lot of work done in the park when it's open. Now all I have to do is make it untill 2:30 and I'll be free again. I have to stop by the VA and make an appointment to see my doctor. My meds are running out and I need to get a check up. I also need to get set up for an eye exam. My vision changes. so I need new glasses.

I'll head out now and go over to HD. I need some stuff for the park. Dick, I'll keep your stock up

Can anyone help me with a problem in my layout?

I need to raise my track 2 3/4" in 4'.

I know a 4% grade does 2" in 4'. I am traying to figure out what percent grade I need.

Thanks,

5.75% grade.  Logging line?  Busy helper units?  I don't like bicycling up grades over 5%.

Thank you all for the kind words on the layout plans.  Right now it's just a plan.  The real work is ahead.

Anyone got any ideas for improvements?  (especially on the staging level)

Try doing a "save as" on the pics to "My Pictures", then you can edit them to whatever size you want.  Or, you can shoot me an Email and I'll attach the .ral files if you've got the Atlas RTS 7.0 program and you can really have fun with them.
