OK, I found this while compiling some information.

A time freight rear-ended a local peddler freight one night, and the ensuing investigation centered on whether or not the crew of the first train had flagged the second train sufficiently.
"Now, then," said the superintendent to the peddler's rear brakeman, "were you flagging your train that night?"

"Yes, sir," he said.

"And were you at least a half-mile from your train?" asked the super.

"Yes, sir," said the brakie.

"And did you attempt to flag the express down?" asked the super.

"Yes, sir, and they went right on past me," the brakie said.

"And did you use a red lantern?" the super asked.

"Yes, sir," the man said. "Of course."

Well, the railroad couldn't decide who was at fault, so the investigation was closed.

"You did just what I asked you to," said the conductor of the local freight to the rear brakeman after the hearing. "You told the truth. But were you nervous at all?"

"You bet!" replied the brakeman. "I was hopin' that guy wouldn't ask me if the lantern was lit!"

   does anyone else get into these ruts, where for a week or two you work on the layout as many hours as you can and then nothing for a week or two.

  well tomorrow we have a nice show in one of the local bigger cities parks, they have it every year to rise money for restoring the CB&Q 4-6-4 # 4000 that is on display in the park, along with the tower that use to be at Grand Crossing. You can go up in the cab and blow the whistle, and get a manned tour of the tower. Every year they have more and more vendors, which means buying more stuff I don't need, but like I always tell my wife I saved an easy $50.oo

PC i'll check in, in the morning looks like at this rate you will be buying breakfast.

INDYSON, welcome to CS, good to have another AF vet. You went in bout when I got out. Thanks for the info on the Indanapolis and your dad.. As for getting started on a layout, I suggest going  and buying 2x's, 1x's and a sheet of plywood, putting down some track, then go from there, or useibg the dinning room table if you think the wife won't mind to much..

RYAN, the only releif [not cure] from grandkids is school starting sooner, then you get a break at least. I'll pass on the BD wishes to Mother, thanks

Indyson I always concidered my self as an ex indy sailor but different indy I was on the U.S.S. Independence CV-62  so you understand when you signed indyson you got my attention I'm also an ex wisconsin (BB-64) sailor too as the  pic shows in my signature.

PC, thanks for the pics of the new homestead, looks nice. Just to many people round there for me though.

I know what you mean.  That was the one thing holding me back.  But I've got a park across the street, a public walkway with a wide birth on one side, a one story hopuse on the other that 15 feet away (thats not much, I know), and a pond out back.  I got a lot of house for the money and something had to give, you know?  Besides, I don't have to mow an acre of grass anymore!

Evening Gang: This is my Sunday. The work week starts tomorrow and as usual I'm not really looking forward to it. At least during the weekend the boses are gone.

PC: The new place looks nice. So what are you going to do about layout space. I didn't see a basement there.

We hauled hay in from John's place at Mineral Wells, that's about 35 miles west of here. That took the morning and we only made one trip. I thought about making another one but the troops rebelled on that idea. It was too hot and getting hotter. Actually it was alittle cooler today, only 101. The cool front is supposed to be here tonight and possible rain tomorrow morning. That would be nice driving to work in the rain. The only MRRing I've been able to do has been in my mind. I'm still trying to figure out the old layout. If I can save it and get it to do what I want. I've had a couple of new ideas that I have to go to the basement and try.

The cow that we were waiting to have a calf had it a couple of days ago. It's a little heifer and getting along fine.

Thank you, Gumby4 and SilverSpike, for the warm welcome.  I might just be checking in periodically, since I'm searching for the motivation to get my model railroad going.  When my youngest son was born in 1983, I vowed he and I would build our own when he got old enough.  Well, he actually (unlike my older son, born in 1982) was fascinated with trains, so I thought for sure it would happen.  Then, as life usually happens, weeks turned to months turned to years, and he is finishing cillege and living on his own...my train buddy moved out!  So now, I'm contemplating at age 49, starting my 2nd layout ever, with a 30 year gap between the 1st and 2nd layouts.  It's difficult to take the first step.

IndySon, I know what you mean there! I am just getting around to putting together my layout and it has been over 12 years since I had one.  Time seems to slip through our lives so quickly, and before you know it we are in our middle ages and looking back at what we did or didn’t do. My answer for getting motivated in anything is TAD, or "tomorrow is another day". Another day to start fresh with what I did not accomplish yesterday. I thank the good lord for every breath in my lungs, and when I see the sun come up in the morning I know that I am blessed with another day full of the gift of life. Well, time to get off my soap box. 

I will have to read your fathers story, looking forward to learning more about our nation's history! Wow, that is a great story and a great thing you are doing too! Hats off to you and good luck with finding more individuals and information.

Hey Inch, I bet they get to be a handfull after awhile. Ben is in year-round and just started his first 6th grade track two weeks ago, it is nice that he is occupied with school again.

And PC, since you are still buying.... lets see... oh, yes.... how about a hamburger steak with sauteed onions and mushrooms with a nice red wine gravy, and some of those fried potatoes, and some buttered toast to soak up the gravey.  And a tall iced tea too....

A Busch HO Sheriffs Ford Probe these are really nice cars Great detail, also you can see in the background my half finished Merchants row kit.

This LHS now stocks Walthers Kits, previously only shops on the other side of town sold them, but since Life Like was bought by Walthers it has opened up a heap of new oppurtunities, anyway today I got a Medusa Cement kit this is a big stucture and is going on the spur to the side of my yard. I still have one spur that hasn't got a structure, It will probably be a Low relief Warehouse as It is near the wall.

and finally a New Double door boxcar from Athearn.

Mornin all, coffee please Janie,
Much cooler this morning here, cloudy n 62 now, sunny, highs in the 70's this afternoon, darn sure going to enjoy it while it last. We're going to Altamont today for the harvest fest, and taking 3  grandsons, might get interesting afor the days over. I should have some new rail fanning pics too for next week hopefully.
Forgot to mention that I got two more battery trains n track, the folks next door were yard saling and found them for $5 and dropped them off.  All looks almost new nothing broke , that I've seen, I need to pick up some batteries to see if they work for sure.

Morning gents. well just finished my two weeks of midninghts I am now no lomnger a person of the night LOL

to the new members. today is shaping up to be the first day here in a good two weeks where it hasn't been at least 90 degrees with 70+ % humidity. The downside is that it's raining cats n dogs and we have a severe thunderstorm and possible Tornado or hail warnings .

So I'm going  to di a Fergie and decend to the work bench "lab" and see if I can't dust off some of my unused modelling skills.

I've been researching MMR stuff for Christmas and Birthdays.  Better to get a handle on upcoming expendatures than put myself in to debt.  With all the new stuff coming out and all the options available what a great way to give your headache.

The biggest headache is trying to pick a DCC system.  I'm probably going to go with an user friendly interface system.  I know I'm going to lose the ability to get fancy but a least I will not need to get a degree in engineering to figure out how to program the fool thing,  Also, by the time we decide to get real fancy, DCC technology will probably be so far ahead that buy a new system will be cheaper than upgrading.  Just like computers today!!

PC: Cooler here today too but it is raining hard so we are trapped indoors again.  At least we are getting some rain.  At least here in NJ we have had a good rainfall in spite of the heat unlike past years.

Hello there: It's the start of a new week here at good ole Six Flags. I actually made some progress this morning on getting a couple of old problems fixed. It helps when the parts finally get here.

It was 86 degrees this morning when I left the house at 4:30am. The cool front hasen't made a whole lot of difference. No rain in sight so I guess we'll just have to carry on.

I'm still waiting for my ore cars. I called last week and they said that they haden't come in yet. They were expecting them so put them in the July sale catalogue. Now it's expected to be the middle of August. I just keep thinking about that price and the wait is easyer. Maybe they will let me increase my order with that great sale price? You know to make up for the wait. Hey, one can hope.

That new heavy mountain looks good. I may have to get at least one of them. What I should do is try and get back into building kits again. I have a couple of locomotive kits on the shelve that I could get started on. When I retire.

I realised this morning that I've been here 29yrs 6mos and 5days. I figure 6mos and 12 days and I'll pull the plug. You all will hear about it and you won't even need to read the coffee shop. You will be able to hear my cry of joy every where.

I'm going to drop on out and finish my dinner. Thanks PC. The meatloaf was very good.

I didn't make it up to the LaCrosse show this year. I had a meeting of my model Railroad Club in Madison, and since the weather isn't great and I don't have a lot of money to spend I decided against it this year. Hopefully I'll make the spring or summer show next year though. I got some great deals a few years ago when I went, including a Proto 2000 E8/9 unit for only $45. There are some good deals to be had, and one of the years I have to get back up there. 

Not much else going on with me today, just had a meeting of my model railroad club in Madison. We are preparing to display at a show in Monroe, Wisconsin in September, so we were finalizing the details before we set up the layout for a test run next month.

Well, better get going, I've got other things to do. I bought a few new cars at the hobby shop today, so I've got to put together a tip and test run them.
