Evening Sports Fans,

I assume Dave9999 is already packed and on the road. Good luck to all those who wind up in the path of the hurricane. When I was younger we used to think it was neat to stay and have a Hurricane Party instead of packing up and heading for the interior. Now that I’m older and (maybe) wiser, it doesn’t seem like such a good idea anymore.

Dan – G&G is still around. They’re only a few blocks from Papa Ben’s. But they only have some trains, it’s not their major suit. I did get some scratch building supplies and stuff there when we were in town in the summer. The MRC powerpack that I still have and use has a G&G tag on the box. Must have bought it there when I was just getting into N in Houston back in 1983.

Speaking of hobby shops, hey John, do you remember a hobby shop in Edmonton called Inwood Hobbies? I only vaguely remember shopping there but I’ve found a lot of stuff (as I’ve been slowly unpacking and sorting out some of my older N scale stuff) that has their price tags on.

Phil, I can appreciate your being a Bears fan. A good, solid, blue collar team. I can still remember Mike Singleterry’s eyes. I liked Mike Ditka too.

QUOTE: Then to go inside and walk up through the tunnel and WHAM beautiful green (even the monster). The movie Field Of Dreams captured the feeling fairly well. And to think, some people in the video were calling to tear it down to end the curse.

The problem is, tearing down Fenway won’t end the curse. I’m not sure it can be lifted at all, but if it can it will require something like sacrificing a virgin (and you know how hard it is to do that these days, what with the shortage and all) [:D] or digging up the Babe and apologizing to him in person. [:0]

QUOTE: Now what's with the sports nausea?! Listening to you bunch is like listening to my wife during her Base Ball Heyday.

Now, now, Fergie. You’re just jealous that the Halifax Blue Nosers didn’t make the Stanley Cup playoffs, or was it the Grey Cup? [swg]

QUOTE: My last car for the Walthers Super Chief set came in yesterday and the train sure looks nice with that ABBA up front.

Yeah, I figured you’d found something better to do with your time than hang around here!

QUOTE: Only bad thing is, the train is longer then my passing sidings.

And your problem is??? The Super Chief don’t take the siding for no train. Just make your freights shorter!

How do you know about Curling, living down there in the swamps? I really enjoyed curling when we lived up north. Not sure I’m flexible enough to do it now.

By the way, Bob, did you get my email (I didn’t send it through the MR Forum, I sent it from Hotmail)

Okay, back to model railroading. And the big announcement of the day is……(drum roll, please)…that I installed the last piece of mainline today. [tup] [:-^] [yeah] Actually the bridge is just in temporarily, and is connected by two small transition pieces like you’d use on a module, but apart from that. So I could finally run an engine around the entire layout!! What’s even more amazing is that it didn’t jump the track [:D] (although it did some funny little wiggles and jerks in places). [;)] I still have 5 spurs to put in, but the switches off the mainline are already in place. Now to wire up the control panel.

Well that's about all for today. Got to go and stare at the control panel and see if inspiration strikes me.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Believe it or not, Halifax is a Basketball town, why? you may ask..... well it's home to five Universities. My wife questions my Canadian Loyalties, as I don't watch hockey or Canadian Football. Been there played both and had my fill. Now Rugby! Definately not a "Girly" man's sport (played that too).

Anyway guys

Time for packing up my gear then beddy bye as tomorrow will be a busy one for me

Hello Everyone;
Well I've been looking in on the Coffee Shop for awhile now, finally thought I'd say Hello. I'm located west of Ft. Worth Texas in Parker County. I model in H.O. and 7.5 inch gauge live steam.
Teffy; If you ever get up this way let me know. I'll light the fire in my tea kettle and you can take her for a run. The coal smoke will bring back pleasent memories of days gone by.

Capt. Ferggie; What type of ship did you captain? Sounds like a bouy tender. I was raised on the shores of Lake Michagan,so I have a foundness for ships and the big lakes. I do miss the Lakes. Nothing down here like them.

As to sports, I can take them or leave them. I do like to shoot, but I don't hunt much. I do hunt poachers and tresspassers. Got a bunch of them .

To all of you on the Gulf Coast we're thinking about you. Our prayers and thoughts will be with you.

Well, I'll sign off. 4am comes early.

Good Night all Paul

Good Evening All:

Would you believe that all of our motels are full, they've started evacuating New Orleans and a lot of the people are here and others are having to go on into Houston.

[#welcome] Paul:
Be careful what you invite me to do because I'm close to you. I'm eleven miles south of Beaumont. We, Mrs "T" and I, are taking a vacation to see the fall colors and she wanted to see Nova Scotia so we're going to make it a Model Railroad trip and visit some of the guys on the forum.
My dad was building a live steam 4-6-2 when he died. I don't remember the scale but it wasn't as big as the one at Zube park in Houston

Ed (egmurphy) and I are having a contest to see who can complete the railroad first and I've got him now because when the first circle is done the train running gets in the way of work. His layout is on a hollow core door and mine is in a 13' X 15' room. You've got to watch him and John, they think that their scale is Normal and ours is Horrably Oversized.

This is a nice place to go to and sometimes we even talk about Model Railroading.

G & G is still a nice place to go they have a lot of the nicky, nacky - briky, braky little detail parts that are smaller the the pictures so you don't know if that's what you're really buying.

I did get your e-mail and I probably should have used that form of communication to express my thoughts also.

Mrs. "T" has run me to Winnipeg about seventeen times for a festival called Folklarama which is a heritage festival and they use the curling courts for the venues. Our local guide has instructed me on curling for many years. Since I've never done it, it looks easy but you know how that goes.

Wiggles and jerks are ok because each one can be fixed. Just be glad that the power goes all the way around.

How does one get Ed from egmurphy? Does the "G" turn into a "D" upon translation (SP) or crossing the border?

John:
Did you see that quote? IT WORKED JUST LIKE YOU TOLD ME TO DO IT.
I'M SO PROUD. You better be careful - a little learning is a dangerous thing.

jwaldo:[#welcome]:
We're open 24/7 jump in and have fun, just don't wear your feeling on your sholder.

Fla/Phil:
Hears a good Bear story for you. I had a charter to the Dallas/Chicago game in big D many years ago. The charter party had one ticket left over and they gave it to me. I'd spent 6 1/2 hours driving up and was going to have to drive home so I thought I'd sell my ticket. Some idiot paid me one hundred dollars for it and I went to sleep. At half time someone was beating on the side of the bus to get in, the Cowboys were behind some thing like 36 - 0. I went into the stands at the end of the third quater and almost 90% of the seats were empty. I got to sit on the 50 yard line and see the end to a misarible (SP) game. That makes for a long drive/ride home.

Tom:
Sorry about you not getting to go to Chattanooga it's the pitts sitting around waiting for a repair man. For the prices thay charge they ought to give us a time and then stick to it. But this is the real world.

Well I'm like the others I've got to go to bed.
Have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Gonna be gone for a week or so, going to the mountains of Virginia to do some camping, 4-wheeling and celebrate my 50th!!!!!! B-day in my favorite place on earth. And yes, I am actually looking forward to being in the mts when Ivan gets there. I love them biggo storms. Camping without rain is like a day without a "y".
When I get back, I'll be older, but probably not much wiser. But i will be mellowed out, and that is worth putting up with Ivan or anything else.
Ed- Your layout is coming along great- Once you started it moved fast. Good work, keep it up. I only hope that mine also gets moving along, but I guess I will have to get motivated to have that happen.
Went to the doc for the first time in years the other day, she said she would ggive me pills that would get me going, should have went along time ago. Legal speed is OK by me.Kind of like hot joe, only in a pill.
You guys all take care of yourself, as I'm sponging out my tent as I turn 50 (a fine and pleasant misery, that camping is.) I will be thinking of setting here and being warm, dry and younger. But of course, I will be loving it too.
Fergie- How deep does the water have to get before you order "Abandon Ship"?
All of you keep up the good work, and we'll talk again soon, Ivan willing.

Mornin All [:)]

It is about 2 am here and most everyone else is in bed. I will head that way shortly but when you get off at midnight you don't come home and go straight to bed.

[#welcome] to our new "clubbers", have a cup of Joe on me.

Thanks all for the congrats on 3000, can we turn that into cash and put it in my checking account? [?] I could buy a few Proto or Spectrum locos with that. [:D]

If you all didn't notice Scott Bowman (trainfreak409) has the Photo Of The Day. He also posted a thread in the trains.magazine forum showing him setting in the loco of the Loram Rail Grinder. Scott has posted in here and in the coffee shop I started over at trains.magazine forum. He was and still is on cloud 9 getting to see it and sit in it. We should all be so lucky.

Well our weather is still in the upper 80s and lower 90s and I am ready for some nice fresh fall weather. Mind you I didn't say cold, some nice fall weather, just on the crisp side ya know.

I have never seen "Live Steam" other than the real steamers but imagine it is neat to own and work on. I bet the track laying is a bear though.

Everyone take care.

Welcome Paul

Always nice to see a new face!

As for my first command, the Edward Cornwallis is a Navaids/Icebreaker/Offshore Fisheries patrol and SAR Cutter, measuring approx. 280'. And yes shes AC/AC twin screw 8000 HP driven by three Bombadier Prime Movers. (Comes with water, all I need is track).

I'm her permanent Chief Officer but the Captain took the trip off and handed me the rains. So hopefully this isthe first of many opportunities!

BTW I'm originally from Toronto so in the grand scale of things I grew up just down the lake from you. And growing up in Toronto meant that "you didn't go to see your home team win, you went to see how many possible ways it would take for them to loose!"

Regards

Fergie

PS. If your looking for train and ship photo's of the Great Lakes and beyond, try

www.shiphotos.com

It's aweb sight operated by an old shipmate of mine, who just retired from the Coast Guard and under "Fleets" you'll find a picture of the "Cornwallis".

Good morning everyone: Just squeezing this in before going into the Harbour to meet a chap who will show me how to work his program for tracking volunteer hours. This will come in handy for when grant money for the museum is linked to volunteer activity.

Yes, Rugby at school, in the days when it was still OK to call the chap who was in the middle of the front line of the scrum the hooker![}:)]

Good Morning All:

I trust that dave9999 is well inland and away from the storm by now.

Fla/Phil:
Ya'll must have found that virgin and appeased Maria or the Smothers Brothers. But then we've now got Jeanne.

Phil:
To me, one of the best camping sounds is rain on a tent and the thunder, but then I have to go to the bathroom. We did a lot of canoe camping in our younger days. Congrats on the 50th. [bday]

Tom:
It looks like you and Bill are going to get a lot of rain out of Ivan. Our forcast looks like it's comming right over your house.

Wayne/muddy water:
How is fall looking up there? Have any of the leaves started to change?

Lupo:
Did you take some time off after your railfanning?

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Well John, the Packers are like a fungus amongus, no matter how much you think they are down and out they find a fresh supply of nutrients and and all of a sudden you are overrun. Gotta hit 'em early and hard!!!!

On the "killer kookie" note--my mom was diabetic and here is one of her favorite desserts. I don't know if you will be able to find the specific items but knowing what the ingredients are you can probably find comparable ones. It is an extremely lowfat banana cream pie. You start with a reduced fat graham cracker crust(keebler is the brand here, or you could make your own with lowfat graham crackers and butter substitutes) fat free instant vanilla pudding(jello brand here) using skim milk, line the bottom of the pie crust with bananas sliced how you like them, cover with the pudding. Let is get firm, top with the lite Cool Whip and voila. She would make this and then a dessert for us that wasn't something she could eat and would have to guard it 'cause it is pretty tasty.

Afternoon folks,

Had lots of small things to take care of today so I haven't had a chance to do much up to now.

Paul B. said:

Wow! Yeah, you can stay. [:D]

Gee Bob, you were up late pecking away at the keyboard. 11 miles south of Beaumont would put you where, Nederland? Port Neches?

Winnipeg, folk festival, curling rink, I see now. Obviously these trips north were in the summer!!

‘eg’ is ‘E’dward ‘G’erard………………No change crossing the border but I do have problems explaining to people down here how the ‘ph’ is pronounced!!! [:)]

Phil – happy early birthday old man. [bday] Monday isn’t it? Enjoy the camping. Rain on the tent is okay, but when it rains all day and things start to get wet and nothing dries, it’s another story.

Me Too!!!!!!! It’s probably going to hit 95 or 96 here today. (Looking for the smilie for 'sweating')

Anyway, just wanted to get this off before I forgot some of the stuff I was going to say. Should be a slow day around here from here on out, so I'll probably have some more useless comments to post.

Hasta luego,

Howdy all. Not so pressed for time today, but still must keep moving. Not much on the Wisconsin front today. A little rain as I write, but that's it. Continuing to update the website. Added a few picture of the TC, same ones as I posted here, and I think I'll add a few more WSOR pictures today. Better get going then.

To everyone: The issue regarding the Captain issuing orders on a whim is a myth! Yes I am the master of my ship but not destiny. As of noon today I relinquished command to my replacement to come home to "where did you drop $97?"

Busted!!!! The Admiral checked the bank account and found out I "deviated course" at the LHS on the way home. BTW I now own a Walthers Pier and Crane Set. Problem is I didn't realize the wharf was 48" long! Time to buy more real estate.

Enjoy

Tomorrow is Mexican Independence Day, the south of the border version of the 4th of July. (I don't think you can relate it to July 1st, Canada Day, because you guys didn't exactly have to fight your way out.) I was thinking about posting something on the subject when it occurred to me that (I believe I’m right, but I’m too lazy to check and see) my first postings on this board and this thread were in response to something someone here posted about Cinco de Mayo, which is wrongly assumed by many NOB to be Mexican Independence Day. If so, it’s a real coincidence, but anyway.

Set 16th will be the 194th anniversary of the start of the Mexican War of Independence against Spain. It ran for about 11 years before they finally got their independence. So tonight, at 11:00 pm, the President will appear on the balcony of the National Palace (now just ceremonial offices) in Mexico City to give the “Grito” or traditional “cry” of independence. This scene gets repeated in every town in the country, at the same time, with the local mayor doing the honors.

Okay, today’s history lesson is over. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Parades tomorrow. School’s out. We’re taking the kids out of town for the long weekend.

Later

Many thanks for your thoughtfulness in passing along the extremely lowfat banana cream pie. As Fergie can attest, overweight is not part of my diabetes challenge. The sugar thing is, however, and a bed time snack of just a very little cereal, with sugar free blueberry yogurt and sugar free ice cream last night gave me a ridiculous reading at 2:00 a.m. Should have stuck to my usual regime, but fancied a change. What I really can't figure out is why wheat products eg bread, rolls, etc. shoot up my blood sugar, but other cereals such as oats, don't. (as a rule) Sorry for the rant [soapbox] folks, got carried away[:I]

There was an interesting item in our paper today about a derailment enquiry. Long story short it turns out the track super elevation on the curve where the mishap ocurred was too great. It was laid for passenger traffic and higher speeds than today's freights on that line. The cars just sort of toppled over! That, and the fact the track was out of guage[:0] [:-^] [oops]

Must go and find out why I have a consistant misfire on one side of a turnout motor. It will fire OK, it's not the motor coil, but every push button control I put in the circuit hangs up with the points half thrown when switching to the curve.

God Bless, especially those in Ivan's way.

....And we're back. Took less than 20 minutes to drill out the rivets, and take apart the Atlas push button turnout control, clean the contacts, and get it back together and onto the facia again. Continuity meter said everything was way better than it had been. End of story, right? Wrong! [:O] Turns out (pun intended[(-D]) that this particular Peco L10 motor has a set of contacts mounted on it from a former life. (these puppies are about 20 years old, and this is their 3rd layout.) Remove the contact set, and Bingo, back in business[^]. I'd left the contacts on because I thought I might use them. Now I'm not so sure.

'Night all.

I had a similar problem yesterday [B)] I would throw my Peco turnout, it would snap into position, and when I let go of the throwbar (I'm using the "directly throwing the turnout" method [;)]), it would snap right back to the siding. I did this little back-and-forth thing about 10 times before I noticed the pin I'd forgotten while laying roadbed wedged between the points and the main rail [xx(]

John is right! a man slight in frame and by no means a heavy weight (unlike myself) Diabetes is one of those things that can strike any of us. John if you were Hooker I was the scrum and believe it or not I played every position in scrum (and no I wasn't the biggest one of the lot as the props cast a shadow over me). The good thing is I took up mountain biking and was able to put on 25 miles a day while tied up in Prince Edward Island. Thank goodness for rails to trails (Oh my gosh.... Did I say that, Bad Fergie Bad Bad Bad!!!)

Happy Birthday Phil

Enjoy it!

As for your question that depends.

If I'm below the water line, then once the water hits the ankles then I'm outta here

if above the water line then I'm more laid back. above the knees.

Hoe your camping is a good one especially as Scouting Season has started and I'm next up to bat.

Fergie

Hi Everyone [:)]

Since I forgot yesterday here goes

[bday] [dinner] [C=:-)] Phil

Enjoy your trip. [:p]

Those of you who forum jump like myself, Noah, Ed, Phil, Vic Smith, and many others (sorry if left you out--halftimers ya know) know who Mookie is. Yesterday she made her first appearance here in the Model Railroader forum. She is the person who has the most post in the forums (that I know of anyway, Big Boy keeps up with that stuff more than I do and can let usknow). So it really was a special deal. I made a thread somewhat like a newpaper article and posted it. It is suspose to be funny, I hope you all think so. Hopefully you will get a kick out of it.

Anyway, to those in Florida, Alabama, Louisana, and anywhere else having high wind, rain, storms from Ivan, please be careful and take care. I wish you all well and am praying for your safety.

Paul - WELCOME TO THE FORUM, and some reasonably good coffee chatter.

Ed - it's a letter opener that one uses for postcards. I used to have one

Camp coffee ? I'll join you for a refill.

Here's a question for y'all: re HO and On30
- I'm going to buy a gauge - card, but because I'm modelling HO, and some On30, will the HO gauge card assist in both scales / should I also buy an O gauge card ( or is there an On30 gauge card that does it all ???)
I'm thinking I'll need both the HO (tracks, wheels, etc) and O gauge-cards (coupler height, tunnels, trackside buildings etc).

Cheers,

cheers, krump
