Good morning crew,

Inch - Sorry about that latest news on Sue, but we'll continue praying for her anyways - you just never know...

JR - Glad to hear the news on that BP, I been there too many times myself!

Scott - enjoying your videos, keep 'em coming!

…I’ve been looking for mine for some time now. I know I had one before a major clean…I couldn’t have thrown it out, could I?[B)] Looking forward to your pics...

...well, here they are - unfortunately NOT the greatest quality because I had to use a flash; I was in a hurry and didn't have time to setup the tripod. Also, since this is only a 'demo' stretch (never intended to be photographed), the rails were not painted - painting should always be done before applying the ballast.

Image #1: Size matters - I put the various fluids in different-sized Elmers containers so I'll know which one to grab at the right time. At the bottom is the 1-inch diameter paint brush I used.

Image #2: Finger-pinched piles of ballast carefully dropped between the rails and beside them. [The track in the background is an industrial siding, I couldn't keep it from showing in the pictures]

Image #3: Gently sweeping the mixture in the direction of the un-ballasted area, trying to keep the tie-tops clear.

Image #4: I tried like crazy to get a picture of the alcohol just barely dripping out of the smallest Elmers jar, but I couldn't do it. The point is, I want to avoid "squirting" the alcohol onto the ballast so it won't lose its carefully manicured shape - just let the stuff drip on and soak into it. Then, pour on the 50%water/50% Elmers mixture between the ties and outside the rails - do NOT let it puddle-up, otherwise the crushed walnut shell ballast will float up against the rails [not good].

Image #5: Here is a section of track I did on Saturday which has already dried. I still need to cover some bare spots beside the track.

...and that's how I did my ballasting. Probably not everyone's idea of 'the best way', but it works OK for me, for now...

. . .
Prayers for Sue and everybody else who needs healing. C-ya!

Bill: I'll take a doughnut[:)]

inch: sorry to hear about Sue.. it doesn't sound too good.

Ken: thanks for the ballasting lesson. Hopefully within the next few months I can begin ballasting[8D]. quick Q- could I use a small spoon to sprinkle ballast?

pc: you'd better cancel your credit card[;)][xx(]

Things are stating to look up for my layout as I've laid over 15' of track Sunday and Monday night[:D]. My yard now has 4 tracks. I think I can fit 7 tracks no problem. Maybe even 8 tracks[;)]

Well, I've gotta get going. I think tonight I will clean my track. I'm out of railjoiners so I can't lay any more.

Hi all

Just got back from the land of cheese and dodgy auto electrics. Didn’t get to any hobby shops (they don’t seem to exist in the North-West of France – they all seem to be clustered around Paris and the Eastern border). We visited Mont St Michel, Dinan, and Arromanches (where the Mulberry harbours were built post D-Day – if you look on Google Earth you can still see traces of the breakwaters). Also just ordered some power trucks for the London tram that I built a while ago – I’ve given up waiting for the supplier to get hold of more maximum-traction ones, the equal-wheel type shouldn’t be too noticeable behind the sideframes and will run just as well.

Rob, I’ll have to try that stuff if I can find it. Still waiting for the whitemetal and brass bits I ordered to fini***he bodywork off to turn up at the moment, I was considering trying some varnish but after what happened to the other advert I’m leaning more towards a stronger glue. The E1 should be up and running soon though – trucks have been ordered. Think I may be on a bit of a tram buying spree over the next few weeks (when the next chunk of student loan comes through – think trams are a better investment than beer!) as now the use of lead is to be banned many kits will go out of production, so it’s a case of snapping up kits now and buying motors later (rather fancy an LCC snowplow and LCC Class C 4-wheel balcony-top car).

Scott, it’s well worth learning how to do an oil change yourself – you only need a couple of tools, a new filter, and something to catch the old oil. Saves you useful sums over having a garage do the work, and gives you a good chance to have a nose around the rest of the engine to check for anything else amiss. I can sympathise on the sunburn too – I usually come back from holidays looking like a vampire as I can’t go outside in full sun without burning!

Bye for now

Hi Gang: I'm here at work again. The only reason I come here is for the hi speed internet connection. Yea, Right.

Fergie: That is amazing. I guess I'll have to put adding weight on the front burner. What make ore cars were they and did they have the original trucks? Thanks for offering to buy. Unfortunately I had to get back to work. You know these people here actually expect me to work once in awhile.

Mike: I'm still pulling for Sue. Good things do happen to good people.

Speaking of pilots. Has anybody heard from Warthogdriver?

Well I have to cut and run again. I'd like to finish lunch for a change. See you all later.

Dingo, Glad you found it helpful! I use my fingers because I believe that gives me the greatest amount of control over how much ballast falls wherever. If your spoon is small enough and you can hold it steady, I'm sure that will work every bit as good. My main concern is to avoid burying the track - it's easier for me to keep stray 'stones' away from the inner rail sides, than it is to remove them (think about those styrofoam "peanuts" that are used in packaging - ever try to bru***hose off your clothing?[;)] )

Noah, the BNSF runs one ore train a day ,never know what time? Sometimes it sits in the yard waiting for a crew. I have seen days were its been held up to 10hrs. because they are short crews.
Can't believe its back to work in the morning been off since Friday. Wife took the Amtrak Empire Builder to Miwaukee for the weekend to be with her Mom.
Well t have to get ready for bed 3am comes fast. Well I am thankful I have a job, I know alot that don't.

Well guys been sent a warning of a new virus heres what was sent to me

I caught this one this week beware

Important virus information There is a dangerous virus being passed
electronically, orally and by hand. This virus is called
Worm-Overload-Recreational-Killer (WORK). If you receive WORK from any of
your colleagues, your boss or anyone else via any means DO NOT TOUCH IT.
This virus will wipe out your private life completely. If you should come
into contact with WORK, put your jacket on and take two good friends to the
nearest pub. Purchase the antidote known as
Work-Isolator-Neutralizer-Extractor (WINE). Take the antidote repeatedly
until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system. You should
forward this warning to 5 friends. If you do not have 5 friends, you have
already been infected and WORK is controlling your life.
Up Best-Equivalent-Extractor-Remedy (BEER) may be substituted for WINE but
may require a more generous application

Have a good day

it was good to be back to work today hmm maybe I need to reread the virus warning lol

Good evening all.

Well I'm off till Friday afternoon, then back to work at Province House, seat of out Provincial Government.

Today is our grand daughter's birthday, she's 18.

She dropped in for a visit. She's looking forward to join our local constabulary in the near future. I think she'll be one of the prettiest cop around.

Also found out the photobucket will accept short movies, up to 3 min or 100 MB. I uploaded my trial film and it turned out OK. Nothing spectacular mind you but then again it is a trial. Now I can work on getting a better tour of Gloetown. If you're interested, you can view it at http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v631/luct/ and click on the first item on the left. Again remember it is only a trial.

to the new faces I see around, nice to meet you and do drop in often and have fun with us.

Well That's it for now.

Evening all, barley pop please Cleo
I skip out on my meeting tonight, Mother said they had year end reports to work on for the Legion Aux. She had to be there early and most likely wouldn't be done till 11. So I decided to pass, I'm not an officer any more,or planing on running for anything in the 40 n 8, so home was better than sipping barley pops all evening.

Luct I see the grand daughter took after grand ma. Best of luck to her during her service there. Liked your video.. OH, just found this brand new looking credit card laying here, says Phillip Carrell . Cleo said it's a good one and it'd work tonight

Jerry , We'll keep Sally's dad in our thoughts an prayers

Ken L , Your doing ballast bout the same way I do. Bout always worked for me as long as I didn't get in a hurry

Sue's daughter called earlier and said that she came out of her coma this morning and was doing some breathing on her own. They had to put back out though because she kept trying to to tear the IV's and such out.
They're suppose to run test tomorrow to see how much heart damage there is.
Odds are still against her, but praying for the Lords will.

Heres a link to a video I got awhile back over on Mill Creek Bridge

Good evening folks: Wouldn’t mind the rain so much if it was warmer. Now we are due for high winds as well as cold and rain. Oh the joys of Spring. Here’s a shot of a typical Canadian Spring.
As you can see, not raining![(-D]

Scott: Really appreciated your video. However, on dial up curious things happen while it loads. The image is there as a still, then two seconds of action with the sound, then still while it loads some more, and two more seconds of action, then load some more. Sort of like some of the spiders we have here that come out to play on the carpet in the evening.[:D] It took 3 such bursts to get those 4 GPs over the grade crossing once the lead loco had got there. It took quite a while for that to happen. That’s why I said video, singular. [:P] Oh the joys of country living.[(-D]
The signal tower photo is exactly what I need to get measurements for my two scratch builds that are “on the list”. I figure a standard door gives the dimensions for the rest of the building. I’ve decided that a smaller tower like that would be more likely than a full interlocking job, for the places where I need mine.

JR: Good to hear that the new BP meds are working out. The new one I was put on has really sent my readings significantly lower too.[tup]
QUOTE: for leveling ballast and general senic work I use acid brushes
If I were to ask in an auto supply shop for these, would I be understood, or would you suggest a different supply source, welding perhaps? They sure sound useful.

Ed: Welcome to my world. Seems I do more running with the track cleaner than with revenue service![V] [(-D]

TiptonBill: Those donuts sure look good! Where do you keep getting the variety?

Mike: I updated our Churches’ pray chain about Sue. We’ll keep praying.

Ryan:
QUOTE: The pollen is falling like snow around our house,

We have to wait until much later in the season, then it’s spruce and balsam pollen everywhere, especially at the water’s edge on the beaches. Drifts of sticky yellow.
It was Kris who gave me the history lesson, BTW. I let her know you said thanks. [:D]

Ken L: Thanks for the ballasting photos. That is very white ballast, and you say it’s crushed walnut shell? [%-)]! I’ve an eye dropper that I think I’ll use to dribble on the liquids. You are encouraging me to bite that bullet once I’ve tackled the yards with the paste technique.[tup]
QUOTE: it's easier for me to keep stray 'stones' away from the inner rail sides, than it is to remove them (think about those styrofoam "peanuts" that are used in packaging - ever try to bru***hose off your clothing? )
As I read that, I thought: “I wonder if anyone has tried spraying the track with “Static Guard” before laying the ballast?”[?]

Ding:
QUOTE: quick Q- could I use a small spoon to sprinkle ballast?
There’s an old “Tips” hint that shows a small funnel with a large headed nail run up the spout from the bottom. Ballast is put in the funnel. The ballast flow is controlled by how much the nail is let fall again as it is moved along the track. I’ve got one waiting, but haven’t tried it.[X-)]

TB:[#welcome] This is a long shot for sure, but any connection to the Bells up in Sheffield? Care to tell us more about your mrr plans, layout? etc. [:D]

Dave:
QUOTE: The other day i meant the train was a monster.
Hence the need for a helper, got it now. Takes me a while[:D]

OZJim: Seems like that WORK virus has got you! Hope the shoulder clears up quickly. Our prayers for that, anyway. Get well, don’t mind about the track plan![:D]

Found out today that the chap who was perhaps a mmr in Sheet Harbour has started his layout, and is in the process of weathering a roundhouse! I’ll maybe get to see his layout in the not too distant future. It’s either HO or OO, his wife isn’t sure. They are from Tonbridge Wells, Kent, so it could be OO.
That’s about it for me tonight. God Bless, and goodnight. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.[angel]

Have to be in Longview, Texas on the 6th and 7th and I'm going to pick her up again at El Paso on Tuesday, the 9th and chase her to Alpine, Texas on the 10th. I got my itinerary off of the Onion Specific website which Trains.com linked in this weeks newsletter.

Good morning everyone, just got back from clinic for blood test (PSA), if it is still 0.0, this will make it 2 years after Prostate removal, and good news.
The sun is making it out today finally, that big upper level LOW pressure system that DER JOHN spoke of, up over Sable Island, is finally starting to move away slowly.

Didn't get to the CS yesterday, Lorraine said she smelt something burning, like an electrical smell. I didn't like the sound of that comment, so I went to the lower level and sure enough, it was an electrical smell. Further investigation brought me to the utility room where the source was found, the new well pressure switch cover had melted. Apparently water had leaked onto the contacts, and over time, oxidation built up, and in turn, the electrical leakage carbonized, making a nice resistor, which got hotter over time as it dissipated more electrical energy. So, $75 for a new switch and $125 for labor, and we were back on-line with artesian well #2. When I turned on the old well, #1, the circuit breaker kept opening. The news here was not nearly as good. The problem was the pump deep in the well, 326 feet deep in the well. The cost for this repair will run about $1500 ( new pump, and new water pipe. This well went in operation way back in 1967, so after 39 years, the 10 stage pump is very tired I guess. So this well will remain off-line for a while, as we save our empty cans and bottles to save up enough $$ to replace this backup well.

KEN Ok Ken, when is your 1st DVD coming out? You may be onto something big !!! If you can sell 1000 DVD's at say $19.95 each, that would be $19, 950!!! Now I ask you, how much train stuff could you buy with that ?? I thought so !!

ED You cannot believe the catch that the Red Sox center fielder replacement for Coco, made for the last out in the 9th to save the game with the bases loaded. The ball was a blooper falling fast in short CF, we caught the ball diving on the ground with the web of the pocket...a snow cone. The place went nuts!!!! The new guys on the team can't believe the fans here in Boston. They said they experienced the same thing in other parks, but only for opening day. They said EVERY day in Boston is like opening day....they love it. AND, here is the BEST part...the Yankees are in LAST PLACE !!

LUC My son wants to come up to NS and meet your granddaughter, wow is she a looker !!!

INCH53 That is really good news re your CRP test. It shows that there is no inflamation of the linings of the arteries, which precludes heart troubles. Just keep the weight under control Mike, that can do more help than anything else.

FERGIE OHHHH OH, smoke detectors going off in Nova Scotia, huge smoke cloud moving over Dartmouth harbor....LUC , better go check on Fergie, he bought a new 1000 watt iron to work on those HUGE steam engines.[:D][:-,][;)]

RYAN If you are not getting enough charging current, you may have to place a second solar panel in PARALLEL with the first panel. This will keep the voltage the same, but double the current available to recharge your batteries which will run down at night, and during stormy days with no sunlight.

Time to get outside and get some work done, and fight with those pesky Mayflies.

Be back at lunchtime guys,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !!
