Zoe - a Jolt Cola (I need some serious waking up) and a egg and ham sandwich.

[bday] Dave9999

got my oval set up yesterday and ran my train for a while... it's pretty nice $15 for passenger cars that light up. now it's time to get more track and cars... that may be a couple months.

Jim, it still looks nice, at that resoultion.[:)]

Dave9999, [bday] - and you'd have to be seriously ill to not be able to work on/play with trains, IMHO![tup][8D]

Brian, as someone here said, just running the trains (no matter how humble the oval) is great - enjoy![:D]

Well, got to get back to work - the paperwork calls. (Actually, kind of nags, but I digress...)

Hi John (JP)! Guess I missed your being on here recently. How've you been doing with things? Hope things are going well (or as well as possible) lately for you.

Have a cup of your favorite here - my treat![:)]

Hey y'all

Brian: Nice headlight, I installed a couple myself, and it sure is amazing how much better the locos look when you're done. Yup, Jolt's good stuff, but kinda hard to come by around here.

Well, on to greater things, if there are any to be found on the Internet anyway, I've still got a little time to kill before this hour's over.

Afternoon all -
Few things...

Ed - I'll take my b'day... July 11th as the date for the 10,000 post.

Now, on to more exciting news.....

As most of you all know, my (fictious) company, Powell Transport Co, Inc had temporarly ceased operations a few weeks ago. Earlier today, Powell Transport Co, Inc had received a buyout offer from a new (fictious) company that I'm the VP of Operations for. This company, CNY Transport Corp. has 'submitted a very nice ($$$$$$$) bid' for Powell Transport Co, Inc. CNY Transport Corp currently owns CNY Railway Corp (new fictious company) along with a few 'no name' trucking companies. If the shareholders of Powell Transport Co, Inc approve the buyout offer, I'll become the President of CNY Railway Corp. and the VP of CNY Transport Corp. CNY Transport Corp would then be the sole provider of all ground transportation services for the East Syracuse (NY) Co-Op Industrial Park.
So, with that said, I'm off to a meeting with the shareholders.

//signed// John Powell President / CEO CNY Transportation Corp (fictional)

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Wow I checked in yesterday around 3 in the afternoon and caught up right away, took a little longer today.

First off,I would like to say that I hope everyone that is under the weather gets better real soon. Not any fun at all!!

Brian-Very good. I with all the others think you did better by piecing a set together.

Birthdays,hope there are many more!!

Jc train-Some of us in the cold country would like to change places with you at times.

Matt-I used to play around on a dirt bike and just before I went back to riding on the road, they started making everyone riding trails get an off the road sticker to put on your bike. It came about because too many didn't use what is between the ears and spoiled things for the rest. Oh,and I know where there is some snow if you really want it.

ED-Are the oranges sweet and juciy??

Jpowell-Hope the merger goes well.

It is suppose to get up to around 40 by the weekend here, and there has been a big funny looking yellow ball in the sky the last couple days.

Ever feel like you know there is something else?? I guess I will have to start taking notes as well. Everyone have a good evening.

hello

After several months of inactivity of any kind and general boredom, I dug out one of my locomotives and put it on my kitchen table of 30x72 inches. Using it as a means to get a general idea of how much space was available, I quickly became dismayed at the lack of space. That is until I reasoned that some sort of removable 'wing' 22 inches long could be utilized to grant additional space for some purposes. This, of course, led me to believe where one is good two are better. Three short hours later, I had pounded out a trackplan that satisfied me as much as possible in the space alloted.

It is intended to be part of a larger layout in the event I ever have the space for such an endeavor. Things need more tweaking before I show any one, I think. Several times (ha, more than several) I decided that those Atlas Snap Switches may prove more useful than even a little #4 turnout. I saw a picture of my pseudo-prototype having some incredibly complex trackwork that is long since torn up that had the diverging track curve much like the snap switches. I assume that this will not cause me grief as the longest rolling stock that will ever (and i do mean ever) go over them will be 37' covered hoppers. Well the SW1000 I have will go over them too, but he's only a little bigger than that and never had trouble navigating such things.

Whilst digging through my photographs, I came upon my favorite locomotive NS #3357. Previously I had entertained the idea of constructing a model of this loco, but as my future layout would be set in 1998, NS 3357 would be Conrail 6409. Turns out that CR 6409 was once the subject of an article on detailing CR SD40-2s and my project suddenly was less original that I'd hoped. 3357 is the only locomotive I've seen on every trip to Horseshoe Curve that I've ever made and it felt like a good project. Perhaps the hard work has been done for me already and thusly duplicating a smaller version of CR 6409/NS 3357 will be less difficult.

well. time for me to fade back into relative obscurity

As long as people are taking their birthdays in the 10,000 pool, I'll take May 18th. In all honesty, I think it will be sooner than that, though.

First of all, I’d like to make a request to all coffee shop members Do you think when quoting a post that includes pictures, you could delete the pictures out? I’ve got a slow modem, and I’ve already seen the photo once. I’d really appreciate it.

Der, thanks, I can see them today. It must have been a temporary thing. I had thought the same thing about the bandwidth, but was sure.

Jim, I do remember that, I think it was last month if I remember right. I have too look into the whole roof thing. I don't think the shingles will work, as it's supposed to be an industrial building with a metal roof. That's why I think the chalk weathering thing would be best.

Well, I’ve got homework and a dinner honoring my winning of an essay contest tonight, so I have to get going, I don’t want to have to do the homework after the dinner, I’ll probably be too tired for that.

Thanks everyone for your birthday greetings.

Lupo,
I loved the GIFS. The sliding beer was great. By the way, I emailed Woodland Scenics about the AutoScenes that posted a photo of. They replied that the scenes come painted... ready to remove from the package and place on the layout.

Everyone else,
I would like to have April 29th in the "lottery"
I haven't had a chance to read back over this topic, so excuse me if someone has picked April 29th for
the 10,000 post. That will be one year to the day that Elliot started the Coffee Shop. Dave

Good evening all.

Got CFO to the dentist, she feels a little better, the root canal is completed. I was talking to Ferfge for a short time. He was running to the dining car. We friefly talked about some ideas on aging the sugar factory. Thanks for the call Fergie, very good to hear you.

Trainnut - The awning is part of the kit along with the hearst. This is an IHC production. I found this one fun to build.

Bob - Got your e-mail, thanks. Did the lanc miss his target? Inquiry mind want to know.....

JP - Good to see you back. How was your merger meeting?

*** - I looked up the radar and satellite data as well as the 500 and 1000 mbar maps with a sea surface temp analisys. Noe I think that this low will deepen a bit and stall which will move the jet stream north. This will produce S - SW winds, warmed up a bit by the gulf stream. I think we will get wet snow or rain on Friday followed by a warming trend for a few days. Having said that, tommorow will show more data and new predictions [:)][:)][:)]

Dave - [bday][bday] Hope you have/had a great day and don't worry about the big 40, life begins at 50. [:-,][(-D]

Ed - Thanks for the info and put me down for Jun 14, wedding anniversary.

Jim W. - Real nice work. Keep it up [tup][tup]

Elliot - how was the show?

Well must go for now.

Evening all. Still not much going on with me. But my mom had some good news today in the mail. She has been trying to get her SSI (disability) going for the last five years. Well, she got a letter saying she will receive her first check in April. So, PRAISE THE LORD!

JimRCGMO, as for fishing from my porch, no not yet. Though a few times we have landed some boats at our porch. So, to answer your question, yes, at sometimes you can fish from my porch. Infact, during one rain storm years ago, a fish fell on our driveway. So, instead of cats and dogs, it was raining fish.[:D]

Good evening gents.....hope everyone had a great day.... I know that Dave did, Happy Birthday Dave [bday].

Luc, Fergie, John, it looks like the ocean storm backing back in will be no big deal, some wet snow and then clearing out, so your data looks good Luc !!

Didn't get too much plastering done today, din't get back from funeral until 3, but I finished the 2nd 5 gallon bucket, so I need to make a HD run tomorrow early to get one more, that should fini***he walls....... then the painting of the skyscape.....I thought I would use a PINK sunset scheme, but JW and Luc and Bob all said that Fergie has "rights" to color pink, something about "cornering the market"? Ohh well[:(][:(]

Robert: Great news for your mom....perserverance does pay off!!

Bob, I wonder how fast the engine would have run if you sent it to Matt and he used European house voltage (220V) ?

Well this could be it. I'm heading out at 07:00 tomorrow, So please shed no tears as I shall return! Adieu

Happy Birthday Dave! and many more.

I rec'd a snottygram from your EPA today, something about someones cattle being painted. Sorry Paul it was meant for Bob. The paint should wear off in about six months.

Paul are you interested in a business proposition?[:D] Up from where I'm from people put Pink Flamingos on loved ones front lawns to celebrate their Birthdays and such (Forty Pink Flamingos for a certain Forty year old or 50 for a half century of breathing) I'm quite sure we could go the environmental route of celebrating someone's milestones while offering an environmental "Weed & Feed" program. Let me know what ya think. Once again sorry for the MESS but the rain should clear it up after one or two rainfalls.

I hear pink milk is a good seller!

Bob; I thought I just heard a Lanc fly over. Hope he dosen't have a radar bomb sight.

Dave; Happy Birthday. Sounds like you had a fun time.

Well now they aren't sure if it's going to snoah or just keep raining or freezing rain or WHATEVER. I don't think that those weather guessers could tell the differance between a snoah flake and a trash can lid. When I was flying I would call the Air Force weather station for there guess and than look out the window and get the straight poop.

I've still got the '67 Bronco I bought when I got back from RVN, also the '78 Scout. Neather one are running now but someday. We really need a 4x4 right now. The road down to the barn is getting very bad.

Well, I'm going to hit the sack. Good Night to All and hope that everyone gets well soon.

Noah, does the roof have 2 parts (V-gable type)? If it does and the
sheets aren't suitable, you could get Northeastern styrene sheets.
They have some nice textured sheets that might be good for a metal roof.

Best wishes for your homework, BTW.[8D]

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Okay, trying a different strategy today, posting in the morning and the evening to see if I can keep up with you guys. No model railroading today. Grocery shopping in the morning and we went to harvest more oranges in the afternoon. Between that and taking/picking up kids at school that pretty well shot the day.

QUOTE: JP:
… Sun IS shinning brightly! Should hit about 30-35 today. Not bad for Groundhog's Day!
Uh, JP, hate to break the news, but tomorrow is Groundhog Day. Just for all you Punxsutawney Phil Phans out there, here is a link to the official website for the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club:
http://www.groundhog.org/
I know you won’t want to miss out on all the celebrations for this special event. Btw, I loved the movie too.

Happy Birthday (again) to Dave9999, since I get the feeling you logged on and didn’t read the prior posts. Hope you enjoyed your special day off, even if you were feeling sick.

QUOTE: TurboTim:
… Nice oranges Ed, hanging low eh ???
Yeah, really, some is actually dragging on the ground. We’ve lost a number of limbs due to the weight of the fruit. At the risk of giving myself bad flashbacks to when I used to work, I’ll use an old work cliché and say “we’re going after the low hanging fruit”!

QUOTE: Brian:
… got my oval set up yesterday and ran my train for a while... now it's time to get more track and cars... that may be a couple months…
Yup, nothing like that thrill from getting that first temporary oval set up and running. From here on out you can take it slow, and get additional items a piece or two at a time. There’s no real hurry, it’s a hobby for all your life!

Okay JP, you’ve got me totally confused. Let me know when all the dust from the mergers, takeovers, and buyouts has settled.

QUOTE: Duke:
… Are the oranges sweet and juicy??
Very. The Reina and Monica are just reaching their peak and are beautiful. The Mandarin oranges are past their peak, so while they are not as juicy as they were 5 weeks ago they are very sweet. Since we’re making juice out of them this just means the yield (liters of juice per kilo of oranges) is a little less. They’re just not as good as they were for just eating. The juice oranges are still a few weeks away from peak, so they still have a bit of acidity, which I really like.

QUOTE: Duke: Ever feel like you know there is something else?? I guess I will have to start taking notes as well.
What I do is keep Word open in one browser window and write my reply in that window, while having the Coffee Shop open in another browser window. That way I can write my responses in Word while scrolling through the posts. At the end it’s just cut and paste into the reply window.

QUOTE: radivil:
… Using it as a means to get a general idea of how much space was available, I quickly became dismayed at the lack of space.
A perfectly natural conclusion. There have only been two or three people in recorded model railroading history who, after initially review the space available to them, said “Hey there’s more space here than I can possibly use!”

QUOTE: radivil: …I assume that this will not cause me grief as the longest rolling stock that will ever … go over them will be 37' covered hoppers. Well the SW1000 I have will go over them too, but he's only a little bigger than that and never had trouble navigating such things.
I think you’ve got the situation scoped out. If you’re going to have small numbered frogs, tight curves, etc, then the secret is to run short equipment.

QUOTE: Noah:

Boy, I don’t know Noah, that’s getting awfully close to “Forum Etiquette” material………[:0] But seeing how it’s you, and as you phrased it so tactfully, and as it’s a reasonable request, yeah, why not. [:D]

QUOTE: I’ve got … a dinner honoring my winning of an essay contest tonight, so I have to get going..
Congratulations on your continuing good work in school. [tup]

QUOTE: Dave9999:

It’s yours. Up to know, no one has asked for a date that has been previously requested by someone else. And I think I’ve captured all the requests. I’ll put another copy of the list of names/dates in tomorrow morning’s post so everyone can see how it’s going. Bring it to my attention if, after reviewing the list, anyone thinks I’ve left them off.

I’m happy for your family, LilRob. That’s nice to hear.

Bon Voyage, Fergie. [4:-)] Take lot’s of kits with you to keep yourself busy.

You guys have a good one, I’ll catch up (again) tomorrow.

QUOTE: Bob; I thought I just heard a Lanc fly over. Hope he dosen't have a radar bomb sight.
Probably not had the retro-fit! Radar itself was pretty new back then. A favourite cartoon of mine from the WWII (I saw it in a collection years later) was from Punch Magazine, I think. (or the Daily Express if it was from a paper) It showed a bomber aircrew over the target with the pilot yelling to the chap at the bomb sight
"What do you mean BACK A BIT?"[(-D] Can't remember now, but wasn't there a Norton bomb sight on those planes?

Fergie: Have a safe voyage. I didn't get around to a longer rreply to your email, but haven't forgotten.

Looks like we've come to the end of the road for our ancient cat, Pampas George. Final trip to the vet tomorrow. He would have been 21 in April. He was a father's day gift to me from my wife and daughter, and now the grandchildren are going to miss him too. He's seen both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, as well as the mountains and prairies. a dogfish or catfish? [;)]

Tim, I’ve been better. Having my own transportation
problems (compounded by financial/credit problems
and my friend’s loaner car being about to have the
plates run out this month - did I mention the
transmission problem and the radiator leak?...). [:(]
Got turned down on a loan (have too many student
loans, etc. I guess) I was hoping would allow me
to replace the current car before it dies on me. So
I need a little MRR time tonight.

Keep building Tim. [:)] That's how you get most
of the layout done and can kick back and detail.

Luc, Fergie and John (and ***), if you get that
wet snow in the next storm, maybe it will slush
down some of your leftover drifts. Here’s hoping![tup]

***, for your backdrop, check these:
(on the Trains site) Photorealistic backdrops -
http://www.trains.com/Utilities/get_galleryfile.asp?idOLG=%7BE2319672-0FA0-4A82-B602-003FDD17A535%7D1

- and check the August 2003 issue of MRR -
article in there about “Foolproof Sky Painting”,
which IIRC (if I recall correctly) covered the
kind of skies you wanted, with clouds and such.

Hope that helps you with the backdrops.

JP, do you have to file paperwork with the SEC,
or will everything still be privately owned, you
rail baron you?!? [swg]

Duke, sometimes I’ll print out the couple of
pages I’m catching up on (well, couple of pages
on a slower day...) and make notes on the printout.
Then I open a text editor (simpler version than
Word) and write in it like Ed suggested, copy and
paste it into the reply text box.

Noah, I missed that about your award (first read
through). Should’ve printed things out like I told
Duke). Congratulations!

Best wishes on this trip, Fergie. So how many
cars will you finish while you’re out this time?
Tee hee. Or are you skipping town before the
EPA finds you for the “pink incident”? [(-D][;)]

Better get going now. Blessings on everyone's evenings and health,

Happy Birthday (again) to Dave9999, since I get the feeling you logged on and didn’t read the prior posts. Hope you enjoyed your special day off, even if you were feeling sick.

Thank you Ed... and you're right. But with the number of replies on this topic, it's hard
to keep up. I don't know how you guys do it! I did go back and read (breeze through) about five
or six pages today. This is a busy place for sure! But it's got a friendly, kind of homey feeling.
