hello <br /> <br />After several months of inactivity of any kind and general boredom, I dug out one of my locomotives and put it on my kitchen table of 30x72 inches. Using it as a means to get a general idea of how much space was available, I quickly became dismayed at the lack of space. That is until I reasoned that some sort of removable 'wing' 22 inches long could be utilized to grant additional space for some purposes. This, of course, led me to believe where one is good two are better. Three short hours later, I had pounded out a trackplan that satisfied me as much as possible in the space alloted. <br /> <br />It is intended to be part of a larger layout in the event I ever have the space for such an endeavor. Things need more tweaking before I show any one, I think. Several times (ha, more than several) I decided that those Atlas Snap Switches may prove more useful than even a little #4 turnout. I saw a picture of my pseudo-prototype having some incredibly complex trackwork that is long since torn up that had the diverging track curve much like the snap switches. I assume that this will not cause me grief as the longest rolling stock that will ever (and i do mean ever) go over them will be 37' covered hoppers. Well the SW1000 I have will go over them too, but he's only a little bigger than that and never had trouble navigating such things. <br /> <br />Whilst digging through my photographs, I came upon my favorite locomotive NS #3357. Previously I had entertained the idea of constructing a model of this loco, but as my future layout would be set in 1998, NS 3357 would be Conrail 6409. Turns out that CR 6409 was once the subject of an article on detailing CR SD40-2s and my project suddenly was less original that I'd hoped. 3357 is the only locomotive I've seen on every trip to Horseshoe Curve that I've ever made and it felt like a good project. Perhaps the hard work has been done for me already and thusly duplicating a smaller version of CR 6409/NS 3357 will be less difficult. <br /> <br />well. time for me to fade back into relative obscurity
