Hello all. Geez, is it cold outside. Zoe, i'll take a double hot chocolate, and a couple of cinnamon rolls, please.

I don't like golf, because you have to run those 18 bases.[:D][;)]

'til later,

Ahhhhh to sit in the coffee shop for awhile......just got in from 4hours of snowblowing and shoveling. Got the results of my latest CH test, it was 184, the doc is real happy seeing it was 295 3 years ago when I weighed in at 212 just before I retired....damn desk jobs !!![:(!] Being retired and doing a lot of physical work really did the trick, I don't like taking medication, so I told the doc, skip the lipicor, I'll get it down on my own. It can be done guys, low fat diet, plenty of water, and getting off ones butt does wonders, don't need pills to do it, just some discipline.

Ed, it's starting to clear here, so the train should make it OK, no need to airlift the OJ, thanks buddy !!

Fergie: smart man....I just KNEW you wouldn't wait until the 1st snow flake to bring in the firewood supply......and that storm in Quebec, was that the big ice storm that brought down all the high voltage towers back around 1997? That had to be the worse ice storm I have ever seen.

Luc, I tried to send the snow south, but the double stage just wouldn't blow it far enough, I measured 28 inches in some places and 15 in others, the wind is so bad that you just can't find any level areas to get an accurate reading, but the drifts are well over 6 feet out back.

Bob, how are you holding up with that 36F down yonder in Texas? Bring in your sage brush and Mesquete (SP) firewood for the woodburner yet?

Ed, did you say it is raining down there south of the boder, down Mexico way? That is good for the orange grove!!![:D][:D]

Karl, thanks for asking, yes we are keeping warm, we have plenty of L.L. Bean gear when we venture outside, and we have stockpiled about 6 cords of wood out back in case we have a real bad winter. I usually use about 2 cords in the Vermont Castings Resolute stove downstairs. We have a split entry home, and I installed a hot air vent in the floor just above the woodburner downstairs, so all the heat just rises up and keeps the upper level a comfortable 70 degrees even with the outside temp at 0 and winds howling at 25 mph, and we are on the top of a hill also, so we really get the winds.
I do use a Pellet stove also, in the upstairs Family Room out back, and that helps keep the rest of the house warm, only used 50 bags of pellets so far this season, and that sure beats the hell out the price of heating oil at $2.05 a gallon!!!

John, I see you are online, how bad is it up there in NS this afternoon ?

Time for lunch, see you guys later, keep the coffee hot, save a honey glazed doughnut please,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! I see lupo was in, and Bob, and all sorts of folks just left. No connection I'm sure[(-D]
***:
QUOTE: John, I see you are online, how bad is it up there in NS this afternoon ?
The storm started later for us up the coast, but is doing its thing now. It's fluffy snow compared to the wet stuff last time, so may be easier to deal with tomorrow.
QUOTE: Luc: that was a great radar picture from the airport, looks like you guys are in for it next!
Thanks too Luc. Looked like Sheet harbour might be getting off lighter than Central Nova. We shall see.
Lunch was designed to be cookable on the wood stove if necessary. Pork chop Stew (with carrots, onions, parsnips, turnip, mushrooms) Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, and Potatoes. Dessert was half a pear on a cookie (sugar free shortbread in my case) with (sf) vanilla pudding. Green Chinese tea to close. [dinner][dinner]
CapeJim:
QUOTE: Which leaves me wondering - how come Customs doesn't stop the blizzards to check contents (like I understand they do for everything else)?
That would be because coming this way, the only thing they look for is guns![(-D]
Tom:
QUOTE: Der, Re smaller sizes for the same or more money: The one that really gets me is potato chips, but that's the way of the world.

Yes, and have you noticed how small containers for sour cream and that sort of thing are dished up in the middle so they look to be bigger than they are?[V]
***:
QUOTE: Tom: you are so correct about the plasterboard, it is apain to go get, a pain to carry into the house, a pain to hang, especially alone on the pieces at the top....man they are heeeaavvy!!
Interesting how we civilized people look down on our cave dwelling ancestors, and yet we surround ourselves with (sheet)rock!

Fergie:
QUOTE: I learned along time ago if you wear the right gear for the right job you can endure just about anything.
Presuposes that you have a fully functioning blood circulation. I inherited mine from my mom, and the feet are the first to go, then the hands. Doesn't matter what system of socks and gloves I use, the end result is always misery[xx(] I haven't tried battery heated gear, but hear that it's not all that good anyway.
Speaking of socks, Ed, I'm wearing my red socks today in honour of the impending 5K post.
Bob:
QUOTE: One brother-in-law gave another brother-in-law a car with a blown head gasket. My job was to furni***he tow car, the giver was supprised to find that we could move the car at 70 mph. In kph, that's fast.
112, quite fast enough for a tow! BTW, was that a solid tow bar, or a chain/strap?
QUOTE: The roof hatches, are I think, a product of Hollywood. Also lots of northern houses don't have upstairs outside doors so you could get out of the house in a drift.
That's what someone in Newfoundland had to do just yesterday! ...and that's what bedroom windows are for[(-D]
I see it's Tea Time! Zoe, a good strong Tetleys please, milk, no sugar, and another of those shortbread things, Thanks.
TTFN.

Teffy- Bob, could u use a 44 tonner, undecorated? Has maybe 8 hours on it. One decaled letter from a failed attempt on my part.
It's a Spectrum about 8 years old.

Snap it up Bob. The A&W had one, and it was a beaut. Ran very well. As to which decoder to put in it, that I'm not at all sure, but $s to donuts there'll be an install in the archives. Might fit up under the cab roof.
Same old same old on the weather front.
Decided on cocoa rather than the Tetleys in the end. [yum][tup]
TTFN, I've got to attend to the fire, as it's not as cheerful as Kris would like it, and she's the one usually saying it's "too darn hot".
Jim: Your email just came in, will take a boo.
Was running the MOW Track Cleaner by the hand held while typing this and some glitch ocurred. The Hand held was over there, and I has the mouse under hand here. Wanted to stop the train and was scrolling the wheel like mad to no effect! [(-D] Duh!
Better go.

Good Afternoon Coffee Clubbers

Don’t know if this one will be the big 5,000 or not. I suppose in the bigger scheme of things it really doesn’t matter, but for 15 seconds of fame I’ll give it a shot.

Hope all you guys up in the northeast (do the Maritimes count as ‘Down East’?) get through this storm okay. Sure seems like Mother Nature has decided to make people sit up and take notice this year.

I’ll catch up later with posts..

Regards

Ed

I'm trying to get some pictures up-loaded so I can show ya'll what I'm doing.

Geez, I'm down in the basement slaving away on the train room, and you guys are fighting to get the 5000th post.[}:)][banghead][(-D][(-D][(-D][8D]

And to think, I could have been at Big Girl's sister's house this afternoon, helping to install a toilet.

And now for the grand prize......[^]

No need to bring tools Bob.... WHAT??? You're not coming?[:0][:(][;)]

Well, now that that's over we can get back to business as usual. We can do this again at 10,000, sometime this summer.[swg]

My only question is who is going to sweep up all the confetti, and pop all these balloons?[:(!][:D]
