WPF 5-22 to 5-25
Posted by G Paine on Friday, May 22, 2009 10:17 AM

Almost Friday noon and no WPF yet? I will start it with an older photo of HO scale GP7 BM1715 passing an abandoned tower. 1715 is painted in a simplified bicentennial scheme and has had some hard work in the years since then.

Have a great and safe holiday weekend everyone!!

My latest project was this GE U30C. I chopped it and added some EMD parts to make it a GE rebuilt by EMD with big power. The ait tanks on top are just pieces of 1/8" dowel with bits of wire added as tubing.

George.... Your GP7 looks great.

Jeff...Your modfied U30C is quite impressive.

My photos this week are from my steel mill. I have been doing some work on the mill this week. All of my plastic mill cars have now been upgraded so they no longer derail on tight curves and on #4 turnouts.

The first photo shows part of the blast furnace. The simulated red hot slag in the slag cars was added this week.

The second photo shows a local train hauling some structural steel up the steel branch behind the cokf oven.

Nice work All !

I like the Steel mill

Here's a video of my DCC Sound Converted Athearn U-Boats

The camera was sitting on top of the bridge so it was focused close up

and the things in the distance are blurred

You can actually hear the difference in the two locos sound

Glad to see that WPF is off to a good start.  Garry, besides the mill, your trackwork in the background of photo one, and the rockwork in photo two, both look great.

I won't have a picture to contribute this week - the yard and girlfriend have taken priority over my layout.  To everything there is a season.

I took my steam era equipment down to the Delmarva Model Railroad Club to give it a little work out.

Aside from getting hung up on some track work that needs attention, it was pretty fun.

Very creditable images above, fellas. Smile  Of course, it goes without saying that the modelling is also very good.

Here, we have a bit of an issue.  Seems someone didn't know that there are specifications for more than one T1 in the steam encyclopedia.

Lee.... the steam era photos look real!

Grampy......... The gas station scene is great!

Good photos on here already.  I enjoyed the steamer that didn't fit and the steelworks. The scenery behind Dave's Conrail aint too shabby either!

A couple of Proto 2000s. I borrowed the backscene from the opposite end of the layout.

A fine start to the long weekend folks!  Of course we always have some impressive work displayed here.

I have been finishing a few details on the layout and got a few shots of my old milk train cars at the end of the afternoon run heading back to Hopewell Junction.

Very nice, Dave!   I'd love to drop a hula pop on that nice deep water and let the ripples die before I gave the rod tip a couple of jerks. Big Smile

Lots of good pictures here so far this weekend guys!!

I got some new motive power over the week.

It's a decent looking engine (correct horn location for ex-GN units) and runs pretty well (It's a tad noisy, but I've only and it about 9 feet or so which helped a bit from when I first started it). Not a bad deal at 35 bucks. I do want to find lightbulbs like the type that are in it since they do put out a good bit of light and I have a few other Athearn engines that would benefit from having those instead of a LED behind a crappy lense (mainly in my SW1500s).

I finally got word from internet hobbies about my C30-7. Should be here Tuesday (2 weeks after I placed the order)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Two more out of the paint shop.

This one spent a few years in the shop waiting for handrails. After a long search they ended up fabricating new ones. Lights have all been replaced with LED's, also managed to fit in a DCC decoder without removing anything.

Thank god WC didn't have many Alco's. I dont plan on ever doing another one. What a PITA to detail! Altho I am quite happy with the working beacon I made (lit up in the picture). I know that there is a factory painted GBW #316 from P2K, but the undecorated one was on sale.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Very nice pictures everyone.  I haven't done much with this area since my last post of pictures.  I did have fun trying different settings on my camera though.

Can you believe Mikes backdrop is a painting. Had to blow them up to tell.

I'll post but it just does not compare. This is a before and after of a SD40T-2 I weathered.

You fellas are all turning out nice "product" in both your modelling efforts and in imagery.  Cool  Corey's bridge scene is really nice...and well modelled after the real thing according to a thread earlier this year IIR.

The first image of the too-long Duplex engine was a fun one meant as a gag.  Here is my main contribution for your long weekend south of the border:

Spring flooding had keep trains out of the yard at Seneca Falls Sub for nearly a week, and there was obvious repairs required and fill needed when the waters finally receded and the yard had dried sufficiently to allow equipment.  After three days of hard work round the clock, the first passenger train arrives.

Wow, time well spent on that Alco! Bow

great photos everyone.

Well, finally released back into service after about a month (I ran out of semi-gloss with one side and one end left on this boxcar (it needed somewhere between 4-6 coats, I forget how many exactly). Hope y'all like it! I'm working on my palstic pellet hoppers soem more, might have pics monday night.

Also, I've been working on a diorama layout, which is sorta a SMALL modular layout. you can see pics of all 4 dioramas in this album:  http://s253.photobucket.com/albums/hh55/Packers_1/diorama%20layout/

Today, I set up the yard to switch. Here's a couple pictures:

All finished sorting and ready to roll (it's a small yard at the beginning of a branchline):

Very nice, Crandell!  I like........  Are those the Walthers Heavyweights?  If so i have the same cars.  Unfortunately even with a whole lot of modification, they still don't like my 22" curves so they are mostly display cars.

Hi, Ray.  Yes, they are the Walthers' versions.  They are not, in my lowly opinion, really meant for curves less than about 26".  I am hit and miss on my 24" curves which is what I had to place at my yard throat on the other end of the module from this shot.  Sometimes they'll do it, other times one or more won't...and it is almost always the case that if one jumps, the one following does the same.  I was very careful when laying out the radius because I knew I was asking for trouble.  Got it anyway.

All I have done to mine is to strip out the metal slats and harness for the lighting in order to reduce weight and drag on my engines.  I have 3% grades which these cars use to their advantage. Laugh

I don't think I'll ever manage to add enough trees and other greenery to make this layout look anything like what you know of the Seneca area...Disapprove

Thanks for your compliment, Ray.

I finally finished painting all of the backdrops and track.  Really a hassle, I should have done it much earlier, it would have been a lot easier to do.   Photos on the link below.
