It's been upper 50's low 60's the past week now this:

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING
THROUGH LATE TUESDAY NIGHT.

MAINLY RAIN WILL CHANGE TO SNOW THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH
HEAVIER ACCUMULATING SNOWS POSSIBLE AFTER DARK. THE MODERATE TO
LOCALLY HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOWS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE WELL INTO
TUESDAY NIGHT. WITH CONDITIONS MARGINALLY FAVORABLE FOR LAKE
EFFECT SNOW...THE QUESTION REMAINS WHETHER OR NOT PERSISTENT
HEAVY LAKE EFFECT BANDS WILL OCCUR AND WILL THESE BANDS BE ABLE TO
PRODUCE 6 INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW IN 12 HOURS OR 8 INCHES OR MORE
IN 24 HOURS TO JUSTIFY A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING. THE HEAVIER
ACCUMULATIONS WILL AFFECT THE HIGHER TERRAIN AREAS AS USUAL AND
SOME OF THESE AREAS HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF SEEING A FOOT OF SNOW
BY THE TIME THE SNOW TAPERS OFF LATE TUESDAY NIGHT.

Well afternoon is already here.  Man is time flying.

I finally found out where a weird smell was coming from (we have been smelling it for a few weeks).  Before I get to that, I will start from the start.

It was like a rotten egg smell.  I thought natural gas leak, but we haven't blown up yet.  We thought maybe its the hamster cage smell coming through the vents (through the cold air return).  Nope.   After we cleaned the carpet, the hamster cage (which hardly ever smells).....I finally found the problem.  IT WAS THE DRYER PLUG MELTING!!!  I went down stairs to the basement and went over to the dryer and out comes black/gray looking smoke.  First I stopperd the dryer, and then I hit the breaker right quick.  Well the father-in-law put the plug in.  Which he is a electrical engineer.  Maybe it was a bad plug.  It was bought about 3 years ago.  I was just glad I was home.   So now we will have to call him to come look at it.   LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY.  Black Eye

Well Garry, I will be more than helpful for anybody that wants to weather or has any questions.  I might not be the best or do somethings different but....................I might be able to guide you in the right direction.

Well people I am out of here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, been working from about 10 am to 12:30pm so far today, knocked off for lunch, I'm going to go work again from maybe 2-4, then break for an hour, then 5-7, then quit for the day.

In other words, I tihnk I'm going to expand my layout plan since I've got this job. thinking about a 6x6 L shape.

Hello...

I, too, have wondered about Bill T. His morning posts are being missed. Has anyone sent an email to him?

Robby, I like you weathering, too. I have not follwed your explanations on how you do it carefully. One thing I sometimes do with the cars to "age" them after decals are in place. I spray a very thin layer of the base color over everything, and the lettering looks faded. Then I go ahead with weathering.

I'll have a bowl of KY burgoo with KY BBQ sauce. It's good on a cold day.

Happy Model Railroading

Thanks Sue.  I've been working on weathering more, than layout.  I think I hear the layout calling when I'm in the basement Big Smile.

The first step I do on a boxcar is the fade, which is normally white paint (testors thinned with paint thinner).  Then I go about adding powders arond the roof panel, and boxcars ribs.  Then thats when the rust, rust scrapes, rust pits come into play.

Coffee in a large UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

Went from 74F one day to a high today of 48. Instead of opening windows, I turned the heat pumps on.

Only 1 more day before that internet store ships out our stuff. Might be ready to begin work on our layouts by the end of this week. That will be a most welcome distraction (for me), even if it's only for 30 minutes a day or so.

Need to go do critter rounds and run some hay out to the front & back pastures. Have a good day y'all.

Mornin' everyone!

Another beautiful day here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 44°F with liquid sunshine and heavy dew falling out of the sky.  And..... Today is going to be better than tomorrow.  They are saying 1 to 2" of "partly Cloudy (the white stuff) tonight and 2 to 4" tomorrow with a high tomorrow just above freezing.  Icky, but not unusual for this time of year here.

Barry, want to have a snowball fight tomorrow?  Should be good packing...........  Hey, we could use Todd's catapults!

Jeffrey, I like the brick walls!  That is some of the best work you have done!

Got an e-mail that the new Camera Body should be here on Wednesday as should the lighting stuff I ordered.   I'll post some photos so you can see if my photographic skills have improved any.Sigh

Zoe I'll have two eggs over easy, a side of bacon, some of that sourdough toast and a pot of dark roast in a FGLK Mug, please and thank you.  I'll be in the front booth watching the trains.

Good morning, All.  Chloe, I would like my usual coffee and cinnamon roll.

Robby,  The steel plate looks great.  It is stickered and strapped like we do in trucking.  Very natural.  Your backdrop has developed nicely too.

I have a question about your weathering.  When you do a metal boxcar, do you air brush a lighter color for the oxidation as a first step?

Sue

Lee-Cruizin the net now has got to feel like looking face first into a fan!!!

Bookwork at the church, then don't know what. I don't know if they are still calling for 1-2 inches or not. Just a light dusting on the ground now. Maybe I'll make it to the train room today.

CN Charlie: On the IHC (MEHANO) locomotive you had the power pick up wires coming from the tender over the locomotive to the front pick up wires.  You need to cut and remove those completely.  Then remove the wires for the front headlight.  I replaced the front headlight with a 3mm white LED.  Right now the only power pick-up is from the tender wheels.  I need to buy new wipers for the front wheel pickups since the ones installed on the locomotive are not isolated.

Robby, that is a free website.  Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Barry, I’m still plugging away at it.

Good morning everybody.   Its a cool windy day, with some snow coming.  They are calling for 1-2 inchs.  I can live with that.

Well I don't have much planned either today.  Maybe clean up the house some.

Ok listen up Mischief.  The straps were made by a decal film used for RC cars or planes.  Its kinda like a decal, but yet sticky on one side.  You gotta cut it to shape with a straight edge.  The red clamps made by using the same stuff.  Its about $3.00 a roll, and the roll is a few feet long.  It takes some time to getuse to, believe me.

Lee, very nice website.  I still use a free one, and its not the best.  Yours seems to be coming along.

Well I guess I will see what I can get into today, and this looks like my 1000 post Cool.

Everybody have a good day.

Good morning all.

I still have some work to do on my web site, but here is what I did this weekend:

 http://www.lswrailroad.bravehost.com/

Please feel free to post or email me with comments on it, I’m always looking to improve on it.

Oh, my internet provider (AT$T DSL) doubled my internet speed Friday for an extra $5/month.  If I email you from home and there is scorch marks on the letters that’s’ because I’m running 1.4 up and 6mb down.

Anyway I’ll be in the corner trying to catch up on the last 4-5 pages I missed.

Jim: They're a lot better, doesn't hurt that bad anymore. Barred chords, well... I've tried to do them, can't quite yet. I need to learn the barred F chord... Every time I play it it sounds wrong. Oh well, I'll get it down.
And Misty Mountain Hop has a barred chord in it's verse, so I'll get that down too.

Todd: Yeah, I know. I'm learning Led Zeppelin, Bon Jovi, and AC/DC as of now.

just remember to get some time for yourself in there-----

Very, very good advise, Barry!

The lady I did a recording with yesterday (a series of short radio/TV [sound track] ads) sent me an email thanking me.  I sent back a reply that it is always good to see and chat with old friends.  She sent one back to me that said, "What do you mean, OLD?" .......... Opps!

Philip I always enjoy short sermons myself!  Especially when there is a BBQ to go to.

I've been trying to clean the lens on my old Canon Digital Rebel.  I am now convinced that a couple bad spots on photos are from dirt on the sensor.  After debating what to do (I am not going to mess with the sensor plate as it can be screwed up easily) for a couple hours, I decided that since it would be the end of the week before I could get it into the local store to get it cleaned and considering the improvements in the last 4 years since I bought it.........  I have a new Canon Digital Rebel SXi on order.  Should have it hand by Thursday.  Only got the camera body as I already have a couple of lenses for it.  I will get the old one repaired and will then have 2 at my disposal.  I can a different lense on each and grab whichever will work best for the shot.  I need to have the photos I will be entering in the contest at the Woodstock Turn to the studio to be matted by the Monday After Easter or I won't have them to take with me.....

Hope you all had a great day!

Evening Gang: Well the train show went well. Yesterday was about perfect weather wise. It was in the 70s almost to 80 and a slight breeze. Today about 6am a cold front came through and really rattled the windows. It woke me up and really sounded like the wind was blowing hard. So all day the wind was howling and it was a bit on the chilly side. We only had about 200 guests but many liked my steam locomotive. The vendors at the train show didn't do much but it didn't cost them anything for the tables so they were happy. Tonight I'm going to really sleep.

Rob you better pace yourself there. If you get laid-up it won't do anyone any good least of all you.

Robby that is a great job on the bulk head flat. Tell us how you did the clamps on the straps. Tell us how you did the straps too.

Well I'm going to head for bed. I have to haul the trains back tomorrow afternoon and get the track Tuesday afternoon.

OK so who left yet another HO scale catapault by this booth?

What. Oh I know what yu think. Yeah just because I'm an HO guy and just because I happen to have mentioned a catapault...... Uh huh, Yeah blame me.Whistling

Aaaaaaaaand I'll take the fat from the steak you made for Barry. Add it to a ribeye and baked potato with just butter and sour cream please.Dinner

Jerry- I know what you mean on the E-bay stuff. I pick some pretty valuable things. Way more valuable than I would think. Apparently we have Champaign tastes on a beer budget. A cheap beer budget!

Robby-You may be worn out, but it was worth it! That looks great. I hope you get a good price for it. It's worth it. WOW!!! Bow

Mark- If you only learn to play Led Zeppelin.........you're OK in my book!!!!Thumbs Up

Philip- Glad things worked out great. I knew they would . As far as the shortened sermon with time for a BBQ goes, weeeellll......If you were a Methodist.......you'd be HIRED!!!!!! Laugh I'll have to tell the classic Methodist /Baptist joke sometime. Even my Aunt laughs. Like I said before, Moms family is Baptist and Dads is Methodist, so I grew up Bathodist.Laugh

The train fair, I thought was real good. Free parking and $4.00 admission. Lots of vendors. Not much for me, but I did pick up a boxcar for $3.00. Plenty cars to choose from in that price range. Most were TYCO and the like with horn hooks but plenty from others and with knuckle couplers. Quite a few locos at very good prices and of course the usual "I can get that at LHS for that or less" .A lot of good buys and a real good mix of scales. But what does get me, and maybe or probably I'm wrong, but it really gets me to see a brand new car for 12-14 dollars and also cars that are "new" but in old beat up boxes that are probably 15- 20 years old fetching the same price as new.Grumpy Now I know they are new, and that they still have an input cost but it just doesn't sit well to see a car that sold for what, 6 bucks, and is now $15?? or more!!! Just doesn't make me want to buy it unless I really need. (want, let's face it we never need it ). Another thing that gets my goat, and I hope I don't offend anyone if they are some of these (I‘m sure though that none in here would be as pushy as the ones I‘m referring too),are the obvious E-bayers. I'm not talking the Robby's or people who want to sell their stuff or even the ones who do it for a living. But come on. The cart being drug around full of stuff, cutting in lines to try and score a deal from someone who may nee....want it for their little world so you can sell it for a mark up on the Bay???? I know it's a business but , do they have to be so pushy??!! SoapBoxSorry.

Best give the doggy some attention. She needs it. Prayers for those in need.

EDIT: I see I'm up to pay again, I'll settle up tomorrow. By the way I see Jim stopped in while I was yacking and I'll take a Chocolate Malt also. That'll hit the spot.

Evening, Janie - I'll have a bowl of chili, some grated cheese and onions, a glass of milk and some crackers, please. Thanks! Uh, I'll eat mine up front - I don't want to get caught in the draft as Barry's scarfing down his steak. DinnerShock

BlushI'm about ashamed to show my stuff in here, with all the weathering being done by the rest of you Diners. Bow That, and I didn't get much at all done on my layout this weekend, Sigh except for finding that book that was missing.

The temp's been dropping here - it's 46 now, and was in the upper 60's (F) this afternoon. Then tomorrow is supposed to be the snow or whatever we'll be getting. CN Charlie - could you please shut that door up there? [Brrr!] I thought it was supposed to be spring!

Rob, pace yourself or you'll wear out before your in-laws do! Seriously, don't overdo your ankle (or any other parts of your body) or you'll be the one going to the doctor. Shock Can you get guard rails on the FIL's bed? Even temporarily might help some so you and your wife aren't up so much.

Kinda frustrated this evening. [rant on] This afternoon was grandson Drew's 1st birthday party at his Mom's & Dad's place, 1:30 to 3 (which wound up being about 4:30 before it was mostly done and I left). Lot of SIL's relatives and his and daughter's friends there, and daughter's mother. Maybe I'm just sensitive to it, but it felt like I was being talked around (or wasn't even there). There's a young couple who are daughter and SIL's friends who were friendly enough, but as for SIL's family, brothers, sister and parents, it was like a closed club. Banged Head At this rate, if things continue favorably with Mary, moving to California or a state in between here and Calif. is sounding more appealing. [/rant off]

I was looking through my stuff over the weekend for some (water-based, not sure what - grout?) stuff which I used to have and got originally for the mortar on my brick buildings. Didn't find it, but I'm not so sure at this point that I may not have used it for filling in some gaps (in between differing levels on the plywood). Not a biggie, since there are several alternatives (including those mentioned here in the past few days). Also measured a Rix grain bin diameter (for my layout design software, to add a structure in the templates).

Oh, for further confusion - there is an Arcadia, Missouri not very far from me (kinda northwestern direction from Cape G.). Whistling

Jerry  - I'd agree (that the fiddle yard setup looks good)! I'll leave it up to others who know more about steam locos how many more (and of what kinds) you need...Smile,Wink, & Grin

DerJohn, that sounds like a good deal on the decoder! Good score at the train show, too. Thumbs Up

Jeff, that G&D boxcar looks very nice - well done. Yeah!!

Okay, Robby - you have me puzzled/amazed - what did you use for the clamps on those bands? In HO scale, no less? I have got to know (please, please, puhleeeeeeeze?)... Bow If that one doesn't sell pronto, then there are a bunch of stupid people out there (or just a bunch without any money).

Mark, how're your callouses now? Wink After all that playing and all. Were your chords (A-E-D, etc.) open of barred ones? The barred ones will strengthen up (or wear out...) your fingers even more. Keep it up, and we'll be seeing you up under those bright lights in a few years. Yeah!!

PC, job well done, I'd say. Your pastor knew you'd do all right!

Sawyer - wear your work gloves for that yard job, or you may get some blisters on it. (Let's just say I learned that lesson the hard way, a while back).

Well, I'll get to my chili for now. Oh, Janie, could you add a chocolate malt to that, too, please? Thanks a bunch.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hello everybody....

Looks like everyone had a full day.

Rob .... I know it's a lot of work and effort with the in-laws, but you most definately deserve high praise for doing what s right. Bravo to you!

The cold front is passing thru here and stirring up everything outside. Amazing, we still have power.

Happy Model Railroading
