LSWrr

Good morning all,

We got enough snow to cover the grass but none on the streets or sidewalks, 6" to 12" of snow is predicted for this evening, however I posted a DETOUR sign, hopefully the snow will go straight to Leesville, LA tonight.  I wouldn't want our southern neigbor and patron to the diner to feel left out.

Lee

I'll have to post a sign at the Arkansas line redirecting it to Indiana so Philip can enjoy it.

Well so far a dusting, and maybe alittle bit more snow.

Jim, I don't have a stock number.  I just went to the LHS and asked if they had something like it.  He showed me what they had, and that was it.

I guess I can start on my next "weathered" job.  Its not going to be as bad as the last one, but the normal look.  I actually worked on the layout for a bit yesterday.

Well everybody, I guess I will get a box ready to ship.  Then work on the boxcar.

Everybody have a good day, and a warm up for us people getting snow  Banged Head.

Page 2 on a Tuesday morning? What gives here!

Good morning.

It's 40 and clear. Today's high will be in the mid 60's and it will be partly cloudy.

No layout work yesterday with the exception of routine cleaning of loco wheels, about a 10 minute job. The rest of the day was used doing some grocery shopping and picking up some needed supplies which means spray paint (primer gray, black, white), couldn't find any oxide red. I'm waiting for the weather to warm up a bit so I can replace the clutch in the tractor (looking forward to that like root canal surgery). The PTO works fine but the drive is slipping badly.

Looks like it works now..

Regarding "Is a Frost Freeze something like --it gets so cold it freezes frost?"

...................

If frost is frozen, is it the same as freezing frost? .... I am cool with the frozen frost as long as it does not over-cool the freezing frost causing it to be way too frigid......... I may have to just chill out.

Paul, I hear you on that cold front - we had steady winds (in the 20 mph range) most of Sunday and had some left over today. Still fairly cold - we only warmed up to about 40-42 F today, and there's a frost freeze (a FROST FREEZE?!) tonight. Go figure! I understand there even were a few snowflakes today (though not 2 in the same hour, and they didn't stick).

In other news, I could wake up to 6 or more inches of heavy wet white stuff on the ground tomorrow.  lucky I don't really have to go anywhere and so I will probably do some "yard work"...............  Thanks Barry for sending down this way from London.  I can see right where it is coming from on the weather map!

Evenin' Folks!

Good to hear that we will be getting a good supply of OJ soon for the diner.  I can remember getting fresh squeezed right off the trees when I used to visit my sister when she lived in Florida back many years ago now.......

Got home from a very long meeting of the MLK Committee tonight.  Among other things we finally held elections.  Our president has been a wonderful elderly lady whose mind unfortunately is getting worse.  As vice president, my responsibility for several years now has been to try to keep her on task and on subject.  As much as I respect and care for her, it will be a good thing to have new leadership.......  I was voted back in as vice-president.  The first item of business after the election was that I made a motion to give her the honorary title of "President Emeritus".  She is a lady that has done so much for so many people in our city that it is really hard to see her age and get so she can't do the things she so values.

Mark just keep working on the left hand strength.  It took me 3 years of practice to get so I could do the  barred F chord.  What I know now is you may speed the process by moving up to the fifth fret and working the same barred chord (It will be A instead of F)  then work your way down as the strength improves.  BTW there are over 6000 possible chords on the standard guitar.  I know about 2000 that I can actually get to sound right.  One of my favorite is the D 9/13 flat 7.......Smile,Wink, & Grin  I worked on the Jazz thing for a while.  I have to get back in practice.  I want to get back to some Flaminco pieces I used to be able to play years ago.  I think I start with Carcassi and Fernando Sor first though.  I used to teach Classical Guitar and could play fairly well back in my youth.  Man am I rusty after several years of not practicing.

Time to call it a day I guess.  See you in the morning!

Mark, on the barre chords, it's a lot like learning some songs - you just knda 'get it' at some point (usually after your index finger gets stronger, for one...). Keep at it and you'll have it down before long at all. Just wait 'til you want to learn some jazz tunes - that's even MORE fun! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Of course--the idea here is to slowly introduce him into the thing---then give him someone like--oh---Al Dimeola, maybe? Or even Fred Frith? ---well you know where I be coming from. BTW--one can always youtube bands like Magma(who tend to bounce all over the genres, a band we followed--saw a few times as well), or Hawkwind(who our band also tended to follow--even to their lightshows--don't ask how I managed to change strings then--WhistlingBanged Head) or Gong--as in Pierre Moerlin's Gong--Smile,Wink, & Grin

Yeah, well, I want to have money in my pocket as well for dates with my girlfriend (2 months this past Sunday Smile )

Here's the plan. before you mention it, yes, I know there's S curves, I planned it like that. Light blue line is stream, track w/ grey and green on both sides is a tunnel, grade=1%, power=rsd-5 (or whatever I want to run), industries IDK, era=whatever I want to run (1960s/1970s usually). I'll get the mountain leg sceniked first, as it will cost less to do, and I can still do switching in town.

Evening, Chloe - just a cup of hot cocoa, please 'n' thanks.

Robby P.
Jim, its a film/decal for RC cars or planes.  Its kinda like a sticker.

So Robby, do you have a stock # for those, or how would I go find those for myself? And Wow!!, you are definitely lucky on that wire and plug! Shock Better have him check the new one twice, and you check it every half year (or more)...

Jerry, not to worry about showing your age - you're just educating the young'uns and giving them a little history lesson (that's what I would call it...Whistling)

Mark, on the barre chords, it's a lot like learning some songs - you just knda 'get it' at some point (usually after your index finger gets stronger, for one...). Oh, Todd, I hear you on it not making me feel 'kindly' when I see those hyped-up prices on ancient boxed cars/kits at shows. I had sticker shock when I started getting back to MRR'ing 3-4 years or so ago, and I saw what DCC equipped locos were running for. ShockSigh

For those who were wondering, I heard from Ed, and he's coming NOTB (into the States, that is) in a week or so, and wanted the Diners informed that he has a train with 5 or 6 orange juice-filled tanker cars coming to the Diner. I understand he made special arrangements with Bergie to have them put on the adjacent siding next to the Diner, so Chloe and Zoe can just run a hose out the back to hook up to a tanker, and use the switcher to move the empty one out when we run a tanker dry. So drink up your vitamin C, Diners!

Sawyer - there you go, you train baron you, expanding the empire - good to hear!Thumbs Up

Rob, you take care of your blood pressure there (now that the OW/OB is gone. As you said, no need to shorten your life one second more now!

MRR club tonight was changing out a switch that leads into our sharpest curve (and getting the kinks out of that setup). I heard from Kevin (club architect and loco tuner-upper/decoder-installer) that he thinks it'll run me about $60 to get my MDC Shay running again. That really seems like an okay deal for me - I wouldn't mind finding another 2-truck Shay, either, but they're hard to locate nowadays.

Saw that Walthers has raised prices on everything (across the board). (What's new?) One of our club members said that now that we're buying so much stuff from China, they're raising their prices. Well, don't want to start a rant on that, so time for me to mosey on....

See you all in the morning. Prayers continue for lowered blood pressure, healing and comfort for each of us as we need it. AngelAngel

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I know where you're coming from with the burning plug thing. I had a similar incident with a service cord plug on an RV back in the 80's.

JEFF: Fantastic job weathering the brick building, how did you keep the red out of the mortar lines or did you have to go back over those lines ( tedious job )?

The red is the original brick red that the building came with. I simply smeared on gray paint then wiped it off leaving the brick surfaces with the red they had before and the gray was left in the lines. Took 20 minutes to do the whole building.

That is amassing Jeff, it really looks great, I will have to make a save note on this idea.

I had hoped to be showing some progress on my structures.  Instead I've been dealing with more paperwork for estate, it never seems to end.  Tonight, Fire Dept. meeting.  Tomorrow, First Aid Squad meeting... the beginning of the month is busy.

Good afternoon from rainy, windy New England, 38F ( raw), 0.36 " of rain and raining at the rate of .33" and hour right now. No drought here!!

Been working on the layout building mountains and mountain tracks trying to get the proper elevation above the road and the river.

CNCharlie: How was the LHS trip, get the N gauge cattle car?

ROBBIE: You are INDEED lucky, many people have lost theri entire home due to Dryer related causes. Usually it is because of lint built up in the exhaust casuing the Dryer to overheat big time. In your case, it could be due to corrosion of the plug contacts, or, loose connections in the plug/socket. In either case, the arcing caused by poor contact slowly builds up a carbon film which becomes a low value resistor. This begins to heat up big time causing the plug and wires to melt, just like you witnessed. I suspect loose connections. Sometimes if the dryer is located in a wet/damp area such as a basement, the contacts on the plug get so corroded and oxidized that that causes overheating.

On another note, very nice job with weathering !!!!!

JEFF: Fantastic job weathering the brick building, how did you keep the red out of the mortar lines or did you have to go back over those lines ( tedious job )?

JERRY: I didn't know that you played the fiddle? LOL

MIKE: I laughed until I cried !!!!!!! LOL

LEE: Winter just won't let up on you guys in the upper Midwest will it ?

ROB: Maybe you should let her go to the pasture to bring in the bull the next time he gets loose, sorry, that was very bad of me.Evil Stress is a killer Rob, you need a stress reliever, so go to your LHS and get something you like.

GARRY: Your favorite country lady was on 60 minutes Sunday night. She even has a steam train at her place.

Later guys,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Coffee refill, please & thanks.

***Robby, VERY LUCKY indeed. Man, that could have got out of hand fast. Guess I won't bother with any suggestions, as you have an electrical engineer in the family. BTW, my FIL was an aeronautical engineer who designed a staircase with an overhead beam right where my head goes while walking down it (and I'm a fraction under 6', which for my family is a runt). Hmmmm, wonder if he designed that by accident or...Whistling

***Jerry, would you recognize the right motor(s) for your dead locos? I'll have to look for them, but I may have a couple working spares if they will fit. Might require soldering a new wire or two, not sure.

The wicked witch MIL left today and I was more than happy to open the gates for her. This was after she tried making FIL get up which caused him to fall again. We'll keep him here and hopefully his knee will be able to heal enough so he can resume walking soon. Until he can walk, there is no reason for him to go anywhere, especially with that nut case demented wife of his.

My blood pressure was the highest it has EVER been today. Wife wanted me to take one of her BP pills, but I told her to give me 10 minutes and I could bring it down, which I did. By now it is back within normal levels. That MIL probably cost me another 5 years of life and I'm running out of years to lose. Lymph nodes on left side of body have been activated the entire time she was here. OK, sorry....rant is over....think HAPPY THOUGHTS! Angel

I promise by weeks end I'll be reporting some uplifting train oriented news.
