An extra strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC BigBoy Loco mug under Full Steam, please.

FIL is back with MIL, so I need to catch up on some work here today. Also need to manufacture a new shoe out of heavy sheet metal for Tinytoons by tomorrow. Maybe sometime this evening I can get into the train room and dink around a bit.

Have a good day all.

Howdy all! Back at work today. Not quite lunch time yet but I'll take a look at the menu.

Did get to see the Sunset Station, but it was closed for some special event. Toured the Alamo again and made many trips to the Riverwalk.....for a libation or two, or three, or.... Smile,Wink, & Grin...I still see margaritas in my future....Laugh

ONCE--just ONCE, did I get to go to see this Riverwalk---now I'm starting to think about another trip --eventually?--WhistlingMischief---

I made my 3rd and probably last... (long story) trip to San Antonio in March.  The Riverwalk is amazing, I like it anyway.  I was surprised to see they are expanding it.  I walked for what seemed forever down news walkways past office buildings, etc. It's hard to believe there is a city only a few feet above you. Of course the hot spot is in the center of town where the resturants, and many bars, are.   I was facinated by the flood control gate at the more southern end of the walk which continues down to residential areas.  Well, enough rambling.  If I go again, it will be for me.  The reason I was going decided things wouldn't work out if I moved.... Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.....

Jeff - I always thought Manufacturing company was that new modern architecture you southern folks use these days.

Best to all, I'll try and catch up later. Eric

Mornin' all!

Been in the studio this last week jammin' with some friends.  Who knows where it'll lead.

Work is getting stupid crazy again.  Had to write a guy up this morning.  I hated doing that.  Sometimes being in charge stinks!

Silverspike, I got back from Texas on March 20th. I was in Austin, but took a side trip to San Antonio (the place exploded in the 15 years I've been gone from there) on the way back so I wouldn't have to wade through the traffic on I-10 in Houston on monday morning. The SAMRA club building is walking distance from my old house in San Antonio (at least, if there's not more than one). I've been to the Alamo and the riverwalk a few times though (although, no margaritas. I'm still not drinking age yet). Overall it was a fun trip, and I did get too see lots of intresting (and one hillarious thing in Lousianna) things.

Jeff, good job on using the old inhaler (I'm guessing, you did mention respritory device) for a sanding tower. Though it was an old car part (name ecapes me at the moment) but it's too large.

PC, and they say it's a rough economy? I've been very busy at work too.

Afternoon folks!

I just can't seem to wake up and accomplish anything today, so I went outside and sat in the sun for a while.  My dermatologist wants me to do that to help with the psoriasis anyway.  Felt good!  Temp got up to almost 60 and in the sun I was quite comfortable with just a vest on rather than a coat.

I have managed to get a few odds and ends done.  Ran off labels for the photos with my name, the title, and the category it should be entered in.  While I was taking my morning shower I happened to think, "I am going to Canada this weekend, now what have I forgotten?"  I when through all the list of things that I need to take with me, passport, receipt for the new camera, what clothes to pack, etc.  Suddenly it dawned on me that I haven't yet gotten a Canadian Insurance card for my car!  So a quick call to my Insurance company and I picked that up and put it in the car this afternoon.

Tonight I will do some odds and ends in the train room and start to clean the house before I leave on Friday.

Jeffrey the sanding tower looks good.  Nice work.

Zoe I'll have another mug of that dark roast coffee.  You sure you didn't give me decafe this morning?  I think the whole diner is asleep today!

Well lets see; the Titanic sank, Lincoln declared a state of insurrection and sent out troops, Lincoln died from Booth's bullet, Jackie Robinson played on a "White" baseball team, Insulin was made available to the public..  There are others... maybe one of these (the last)? or,  a clue perhaps?

Google earth puts it at latitude: 41° 46′ North  longitude: 50° 14′ West but doesn't allow for the correction.

***Jerry, neat idea with that Cat conversion.Thumbs Up

After getting done or at least working on most of the important stuff today, I spent about 30 minutes in the train room. Made some major changes to the wife's track plan. She is as exhausted as I am so will look at it tomorrow. If she gives it her OK, then I can start setting the track. With everything going on these days, I thought her layout should take priority over mine. She seems very down again.

Hope everyone is having a nice evening.

Good Evening, Chloe - how about a nice sirloin, medium-well done, some asparagus and a baked potato (with butter and sour cream on the side), a side salad with Italian dressing, and a glass of wine, please 'n' thankyouma'am! Dinner

Let's see, nine pages, eh? Sigh Gee, I need to figure how to get in here a bit more often, so I don't have THAT many to catch up on at one time...

Rob, first up, I'll add my [ditto] to the (long) list of those saying BowBow to you and your wife for doing the right thing by her folks (in addition to all the farm chores and repairs and critter rounds, that is). I'm sure that what we read here only begins to touch the surface of how a number of your days go. Know that you two (and your family) are on my 'list'.AngelAngel Hey, if we still had the [ditto] icon, I figure there'd be a 'ditto tree' going...Smile And it's okay to baby your wife, as hard as you both have been trying to ride herd (I mean, uh, that is, well, y'know...Oops) lately. Give her a hug from us!

Cederstrand

***Ray, does Bilbo have a precious toy he's very protective of?

 (sorry, couldn't resist)

Uh, no... that would be if his name were Gollum, and he were a Mexican hairless.Smile,Wink, & Grin

Galaxy - you did your folks proud (I'm sure) with doing all that for them, too. That's awfully early for such a load, but you did it well. Yeah!!

Todd, I see you have been having WAAYYYY too much fun with Jeff's puzzle on the 'hybrid' GP40...(and you too, Ray)...Laugh Hey, take it easy on the 'kid' Sawyer there, Jack! (I even had to fire up my BatComputer, but when i saw what it found, it was a ....do'h!... moment - even if I never watched the show..Thank the Lord for Google and Wikipedia!...) Actually, I'm suprised that the servers didn't decide to pull that Oops thing in the middle of that whole exchange. Shock  Oh, NOW you tell me that I can skip a few pages in there... (like on Sunday evening??)!

Todd, I want in on that Diner RBF pool about when Rob sets up his track, but I'm saying it'll be by Friday - I don't think he'll make it until Saturday...Whistling

By the way (for those talking about cluttered layouts...), my 2'(roughly) X 8' layout right now is more like a storage area - has two spray paint cans, about four partly started structure kits, a Rix grain bin, both bottles of 15 minute epoxy, and a dozen or so other miscellaneous things on it/between the tracks... But that's okay, since I haven't got to the wiring for a long while, so I couldn't run trains even if I wanted to at the moment...

And what IS that smell in here, Chloe? Sort of smells like..reminds me of... burnt custard pies and lemon meringue pies? But surely that can't be, can it?...Whistling

Oh, Jeff - you realize (speaking of scratching oneself bald) that some of us have a head start toward that than others, right? Smile,Wink, & Grin Good job on the weathering of those locos, too. Yeah!! But if you keep overdoing, I may have to drive down there and slap your hand, you rascal!Evil

Ray, you've a cutie there - are you a wee bit proud of the lassie Wink (girl, NOT dog, before someone jumps on that one!...)?

Chris - I hate to think what the young Diners might refer to the music (that I enjoyed at their age) as. I did notice that - though my daughter once complained that Neil Diamond's music "doesn't have any beat to it" (I think that's pretty close to a direct quote of her) - Chris Rice's music (Christian contemporary music) that she likes, sounds on some of his tunes like some (Gasp! Shock - geezer alert!) Simon & Garfunkel's stuff... (Ah, becoming one of 'the Ancients' is such fun...) Whistling

Trainman Sam, keep at it - sounds like you're having fun and an interesting time with your job. Thumbs Up

DerJohn, I don't care if you do model in iNvisible scale - I LIKE your roundhouse building (and that whole servicing area) - more photos, more photos!

Eric, I like how your factory walls are coming along. Keep your photos coming! Big Smile

Inch, liked your 'math' joke - got more?

Ryan, it sounds like your trip to Texas was enjoyable (except for the delays). Did you bring a 'beverage' container back with you? I thought the air travel inspectors didn't let ya bring liquids on board flights nowadays.Smile,Wink, & Grin

Jerry, you did an excellent job of putting the tracks on that 'dozer - until I read your description, I thought it came with the treads. Thumbs Up

I must be on the same wavelength as some of you other Diners - found myself thinking about redoing my layout expansion plans (for the past couple'a days, anyway), go back and redo the additional sections that I'd planned for later connecting to my existing parts. Here's what I had (figuring on an 11' X 11' room size, which would be about right for most second bedrooms in a 2-bedroom apartment):

But (except for the loco servicing area, which I think isn't big enough) I think the plan's a bit cluttered. I would like space for some off-track buildings (like houses, a general store, etc.) and some Southwestern scenery (Arizona-type, maybe with a flock of sheep?). Right now, I'm wondering if I can get that and some industries (to justify the trains' runs between towns and cities) into this sized space...  Any suggestions, Diners?

I'm gonna get back to my steak and veggies now - I think I saw Eric eyeing my steak just a bit ago...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Ok, its not a new guy......just me.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

Sorry I don't get in as much.  Working, and just relaxing when I get home.

Well lets see, whats new??????

The job, well its a job.  The wife and I go to the doc in Pittsburgh tomorrow.   See why shes still getting pain, and see if we can have some kids Clown

The bulkhead I worked on for a week went for $61.00.  I'm not happy at all with that price.  Kinda glad I went back to work, so I don't have to worry about "the bay" anymore.

I also haven't touched the layout in a few weeks.  I need to do some switching, kinda give the cars a workout.

Well everybody, I guess I will get ready for bed.

I will try not to be a stranger Mischief.

By the way, TAKE THIS APPLE PIE!!!!!!  ZZZZZZZZOOOOOOOOOOOOOmmmmmmmmmmmmm  Big Smile

Eric, it's free for us. Luckily I don't like coffee. I do like RBFs however.

Robby, I wanted that pie....

Jeffery & Sawyer, me three. At least until my mom drug me with her to watch it, that kinda ruined it for me.

Jim, I don't know if they have sheep out there. Someone might think it's Australia, but at least they still have Alcos (I think).

Is it just me, or do some of us wish that RR colored paints were availabe in a spray can? (i.e. Daylight orange, BN green, ATSF blue, etc).

Vincent, never seen the movie myself.

Well, I've determined I can get some better train watching and also some switching if I cut out one industrial area on my p[lan. Now I have two big industries on one area, and a main on the other two (one is staging). Will eventually draw my plan up in RTS 8.0.

Good evening,

Think I'll grab a late night slice of apple pie...if it hasn't all been snuck and/or air-mailed...

Spent three hours in Cedar Rapids' "Czech Village" today for the big coming back from the flood issue. Thought I'd hit all 6 businesses, just stop in, ask a few questions, move on to the next... Nope. Got to talking to the business owners. Some really neat people, in a really neat neighborhood. These guys had at least 8 feet of flood water in their shops...yet they mucked it out, and are back in business. Not all in "the village" are though, still some gutted shops that look like the water just left last week.

Had to sit through a county conservation board meeting, with the county supervisors, a FEMA rep, and an Iowa State Emergency mis-Managment suit-'n-tie. To get FEMA to repair a 100+ year old bridge, the group that leases it from the county has to have the county take it back, in full. County supervisors were trying to get the conservation board to take it.

No decision.

No action.

I should be able to pull a decent article about it out of my.......... cranium, tomorrow.

Funny thing, FEMA will only give money (90/10 federal/state split) to the county to fix it, but will pay in full to demolish it regardless of who "owns" it. Makes no sense to me, FEMA gal couldn't explain it, county supervisor is just happy the feds wanna pay for it. I just don't see how it qualifies for federal money, as-in why all of you fellow diners, should be paying to fix what amounts to a historic tourist attraction. Seems like an entirely local thing to me. But, what do I know? I'm just a goofy newspaper reporter...and constitutionalist. In fact, according to DHS, I'm apparently an "extremist" now.

Huh.

And I don't even have so much as a water pistol...

Or a pie catapault.

I gotta go back to Czech Village on Friday after the staff meeting with THAT editor to get the other side of the street...AKA the other three or four shops. Good thing THAT article isn't due until the 24th, buys me a little time.

Someone, Jim maybe?, mentioned Simon and Garfunkel. Believe it or not, I started listening to them in high school...still do. Good stuff.

*yawn*

I think I'm almost too tired to function, so will crawl to a back booth, try not to choke on the pie...and call it a night.

Good night everybody, and a good, SAFE tomorrow to ya...

Spent the last hour or so working mostly on MY layout. Decided to simplify some things, like allowing the trains to work grades, rather than fooling around with leveling everything off. Functionally I think this will be more prototypical, even though there is little else about my layout that falls into that catagory. Need to take some pics and get some opinions from y'all, especially for the 2 industries.

Good night.

 Good morning.

It's 57 and cloudy. The high will be in the upper 70's and it will be partly cloudy with a small chance of rain tonight.

Ended up doing some yard work yesterday but knocked off after two trailer loads. No sense in overdoing it. My father wants the work done (being as it's in my yard) and I told him it will get done, but at my pace, not his! In other news, I'm looking for junk pieces of G Scale equipment. It doesn't have to be operational, just look halfway descent. I'm planning another outdoor static display. I'm in need of a locomotive (steam or diesel) non-op preferred as I can't afford to pay much, two freight cars (any type), and a caboose or small combine/baggage car. I don't care if the stuff falls apart when it's breathed on so long as it looks halfway descent. After all, it's not going to move, just sit in one place. Those interested in helping me with this can contact me by PM. More layout cleanup work today, hopefully. I still have some tools and materials to sort out then I'll be ready to place some structures in their final positions with lighting in some. Getting under the layout to come up through the access holes is the fun part.
