Mornin' all!

And hey!  I get to buy my friends breakfast!

Another beautiful day in Indiana.........and my bike is STILL in the shop.  Might just take the scooter for a ride instead.  Or maybe I'll grab my pedal bike this evening.......yeah, thats what I'll do!  It supposed to be sunny, with a high near 71. East southeast winds between 3 and 5 mph.  In other words.......beautiful!

Had to do an emergency brake job last night.  See, I'd found a backrest pad from a harley that my wife would like, and I found it locally for cheap.  With that in mind, I asked the wife to pick me up after work so we could go look at it.  My daughter gave me a ride to work yesterday, so I was without a vehicle.  Anyways, the wife came and was waiting in the passenger seat when I walked out of work.  I jumped in the van and before I left the parking lot I knew something was seriously wrong.  I could tell by the sound and feel of the brakes that I'd thrown a pad.  The backing plate was still there though.  I swung by the local parts store up the street and picked up some cheapie pads (They're going to be toast anyways on a torn up rotor, so why buy the expensive ones, right?) and took it real easy to meet the backrest guy.  I bought his backrest, and he also had a rear rack that I picked up.  Got both for $125, which is a steal.  So anyways, we limped on home and I popped the van up and my son and I dropped in new pads on the front in about 30 minutes.  The one rotor was a bit chewed, but not bad.  After this set of pads it'll be fine.  The cool part was that I not only got to teach my son how to do disc brakes (I showed him drums last summer), but we had a great discussion on apologetics.

So, did someone mention a HAZMAT team?  Are they here for the pie catapult?

So, whats up with you all?

Prayers for all!

Later!

Mowing today, supposed to be 73Fand sunny. Hopefully I'll hit the train room for a little bit while the grass dries this morning.

***Sawyer, soccer will sure keep you in shape. Train smart and Good Luck with the season.

ROFLMAO!!!! For a couple of minutes there, I couldn't figure out what knowing about trains had to do with it. LOL. Then it dawned on me. DUH!! Laugh(shaking head giggling)Dunce

Jim- If you saw my track plan. (and some day when I figure how to show it without looking like a 2 year old drew it you will) You would smile, pat me gently on my head, and say "thanks for your help" As you turn and roll your eyes thinking "yeeeesh"Whistling

Rob- Changing her mind huh? Imagine that. A woman changing her mind.

What's that Zoe? Yes I know I just changed my mind three times on my own layout.....that's different.

Lee- As the kids say "Sweet". And thank you for doing your part to stimulate the economy.

PC- Ahh father and son time. One of lifes little pleasures. I rememb.....where'd he go? Saaaaayy, Wasn't there 3 cherry pies in the pie case? I only see 2 now. He's fast!

Have a great Day!

Morning All!

Chloe, French toast and a decaf please.  Quiet here today.  One crew is putting up fence at the ball fields watching the tide come in (tidal river inlet from the ocean).  The other crew is watching water being pumped out of the freezing pools at a long abandoned ice house... Me, I'm cleaning the shop.  It's my week, that means I get to put away all the stuff people used during the week and left laying on the floor.

Lee, I saw that deal on Factory Direct.  I've purchased several items from them.  I don't run steam but that Pennsy is just sweet to look at.  I still might get one if they still have any.

PC, Spending time with the son eh?  Wish my dad had done that.... Well, I deleted what I wrote, I'll leave it at that.  Good for you..

Sawyer, Protect those valuables, they're difficult to replace if you lose them......

Aahhhh!!! PIE!!!!!  Could you put some whipcream on next time?

Coffee in a  SOUTHERN  mug, please & thanks.

***Philip, good deal on those parts and glad you were able to make it home to fix those brakes.

***Todd, an extra cup of coffee to help your mental process start flowing better.Laugh

***Lee, you bought that 4-4-4-4...Very cool!Thumbs Up

***Barry, perhaps a farmer could be hired to spray PROZAC dust over the area. Seriosuly, that does sound like a trouble spot. Bummer!

Much to do today. Perhaps by tonight I can make some train room time. I can see how these layouts are going to take a long long long long long time before starting to look like much of anything. With some kits to build and everything to weather (when I even get that far) it is going to be a very long term process. Shock Yikes!

Have a great day all.

Page two? Not on my watch!!  BUMP!

The visit with the foot doctor went well. The sores have closed up a little more which is good. One point of concern is that there's a little heat in the right foot. We're gonna watch that real close. It could be an infection lurking or it could just be the Charco condition acting up again. I beat the storms home by 20 minutes so I had time to pick up my laundry from my parents place and get the mail before the rain started.A couple of really nasty storms blew through within an hour, one was intense enough it blacked out my satellite dish for a whole 10 seconds.

Two GP40's waiting on a spur at Sundown for a fast freight to pass. Afterward they'll continue their trip back to Knutsville to pick up a new train.

Been trying to hold onto my hilltop here. This storm has been pretty ugly so far. As you can see in map #1 we've got some serious stuff headed our way. Map #2 shows my position. X marks the spot!

Evening Gang:

Jeff that storm is the one that came through here this morning. It left behind one inch of rain that we needed very badly. We're supposed to get some more rain tomorrow sometime.

Other then getting some rain not mush going on here. I've been feeding the cows by rolling a bale of hay down a slope. They seem to like it better and anything that gets them to eat this older hay is great with me. It beats buying hay at $50 or more a bale.

Tomorrow is another 4am wake up and I'm still trying to recoup from the one yesterday. It's really early but I think that I'll head for bed. Tomorrow is also our county clean up day so I won't come home and take a nape. Anytime I can dump trash for free I'll do it. I have the dump trailer loaded and ready to go. I'll hook up the new tractor and head for the county barn as soon as I get home and feed.

Evenin' all. Piece of coconut cream pie please.

Business is kinda slow in here today. Guess with Ray and Barry headin' to Woodstock the rest of us are just spending time doin' other things

Got a new mouse for the puter. Tired of the other one always quitting. Basically yard work today. I'm also gathering stuff for town cleanup. We have a township garage insted of a barn. Not much better than a barn, really it's a pole barn That may be the same as Rob's, er sorry, I mean Paul's talkin' about.

Looks like Jeff's about to get hit with the bulk of the mess so I hope he's hunkering down. hope all turns out OK. Guess I'll head on down to Toddland (of which I'm King) and see if I can find something to do  as soon as I finish my pi....hey! Were'd it go! That's wierd, another piece please.

Jeff, that’s one nasty looking storm, I hope you come out of it ok.

Well the 4-4-4-4 left FL this morning and is heading north; maybe with a little luck I’ll see it Saturday.  We shall see if everything they say about it is true.  They told me the decoder will run the sounds.  I was confused with the add that it had DC sound and it was DCC ready.

The bullfrog snot is for the Mantua locomotives.  They need a little traction to those 30+ year old wheels.

I laid some ballast today; well not really I went and picked up 3 yards of gravel for GF’s driveway.  That only ran from the street to the end of the house.  The area in front of the garage may take 4 more yards.  I wish I had a dump bed on my pick-up truck!

Jeff, is that stuff headed east? I can mark my position on the second map (just above the E in Destin)

Sawyer, you know you're supposed to block those with your hands, right? That was my only blocked feild goal right there. I got a jump on their Center which bothced their snap, broke through the line while being double teamed, and some how got brought to the ground. Despite the latter, I was close enough I stuck my hand down and swatted it. Mind you this was when I was in a little league team, and I was the biggest kid around.

Galaxy, I don't think our female members know what that's like. But yeah, it's happened to all of us at least once. I have a story about that, that's kind of funny actually, but I'll leave it off for now.

Lee, I'm guessing that's a Bluline loco, right? DC sound means it has a sound decoder that works on DC. When you add DCC, you're supposed to program that sound decoder. I've heard about difficulties with them, so I've stayed away from the Blueline SD7s, 9s, and 40-2s. Those SD40-2s are based on Phase 1 units, but the numbers are from Phase 2 units. Phase 1s have chicken wire grilles, phase 2 have Corrugated grilles.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening, Chloe - just a hot fudge brownie with a dollop of ice cream on top, and a cup of coffee in a Santa Fe mug, please. Thanks.Smile

PC, sent you a little something you can use (and no, it's not a winning lottery ticket; haven't found that one - yet...). Smile,Wink, & Grin

Todd, I wasn't really looking for a finished, ready-for-publication-in-MR-level idea, honestly! Wink I was looking for general comment and suggestions for starting at a remake of what I have (play nice, Diners...Oops)

Barry, here I had this image of our Canadian neighbours as a gentle, peaceful sort (well, until I read your local news account, that is...Whistling) Maybe we should send Chris up there to cover the story? I'm sure he should be able to swing the idea past THAT editor...

Lee, I wasn't for sure - did you buy everything that was on sale? That link just takes me to a page with all the sale items on their website. Confused Now, that could be an economic stimulus, for sure!

Looks like Ray and Barry are off for the weekend, possibly scoring all the train bargains (in the Woodstock area? I thought that was connected with music stuff, instead of trains...) That is, if their cats will let them out the door!

W**k was a bit too steady today - I think all my people with appointments showed up (unusual..). I've been slipping behind a bit on the paperwork, since by the time I take the client up front to have them set up another appointment and get back to my office, there ain't enough time to write up the notes in most cases. Have been staying some days for an extra half hour or hour to try to get things caught up.

But it looked like the twins might've locked the door and gone shopping for a bit, with the shortage of Diners who were in (no, Chloe, I know you and Zoe didn't lock the place up, really!).

We had excellent weather today (though I didn't get out to appreciate it until about 6 this afternoon/evening). Got into the 70 F range (nice!), but tomorrow we get the (back?) edge of that storm that Paul and Jeff had go through their areas earlier.

By the way, Jeff - good to hear your foot's continuing to improve. Thumbs Up

And Sawyer, remember your cup, fella! Shock 'Nuff said...

Those of you who like Accurail's kits, they have an overstock sale on a bunch of them, at 40 percent off (on their website - www.accurail.com )! Good deal on some covered hoppers, boxcars of various designs, hoppers (2 and 3-bay types). Check it out you HO Diners!

Also, I saw that H-L has their 40 percent (off one regular price item) coupon this week, so if you need any MRR or art stuff, etc., go print it out (or multiple copies if you go back in multiple times) and see about it. Oh, I noticed the last time I was in there, that they now have some DPM building kits - both HO and N scale ones. Yeah!!

Well, time to get my dessert finished before a pie lands on it. Dinner  Prayers for safe travelling, for comfort and (continued) healing and for your cats to not tear up the place while you're gone...

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

No the few female members may not know WHAT it feels like getting hit/kicked/slamed in the "boys". but they get taught early on that kicking a boy there will cause him immense pain and drop him to the ground like a lead balloon.

Has this forum degraded itself to where the major topic for conversation and laughter is about a young man getting hit in the testicles?

We here, just don't need to know about it now do we? And have it carry on in topic forever, now do we?

Sawyer will survive this and most likely other episodes in his life.

Tall cool glass of lemon water, please & thanks.

***Jeffrey, hope that storm left you alone.

An Inlaw situation came up and wiped out our evening, so no train room time at all tonight. At least we got Tinytoons shoes back on and an important horse swap accomplished between back pasture and riding arena. Also assisted a neighbors young bull calf back across the creek to it's mommy. Sure was a cute little thing, although it was already as large as our own full grown miniature bull.

Have a good night all.

It's 64, extremely cloudy and very wet with rain still falling. The high should be around the mid 70's and there's a really good chance (guarantee actually) of major thunderstorm activity.

I rode out the storms yesterday with minimal damage. The trailer was struck by lightning at least once leaving me with a pair of severely rattled eardrums. The flash was so bright it lit the windows. Quite a feat since they're covered with 2 inches of expanding foam on top of black paint. I did that back in my days as a newspaper carrier and  later a security guard, both of which required that I sleep by day and work by night. I worked graveyard for 15 years. There's no damage to the trailer or any of my electronic equipment though I would swear that I literally hit the ceiling. It's 3/8" plywood so it can take quite a smack. The only after effect (besides my ears ringing like gongs) was the metal window frames glowing a blueish white, a usually harmless display called St Elmo's Fire. I'll have to wait til sunrise to see what the damage outside is. My mother and my older sister were in Alexandria last night when the main part of the storm blew through. As far as I know they're alright.  I'll find out for sure in a few hours. Hopefully today I will be uninterrupted and can get some layout work done other than a bit here and a bit there.

Good morning,

Jeff, good to hear you weathered the storm in fine shape.  Up here in Ohio you will be providing us with a large system of wet weather this week plummeting our temps back near freezing for 3 days.  I hope your happy, LOL!

Jim, no just the 4-4-4-4.  I want to stimulate the economy in small steps, LOL.  It just so happened that I don’t have to pay the GAS bill this month.  I’m on budget for Natural Gas and the gas company set my budget for $135.18/month.  Well when figuring out my personal budget I rounded it off to $150 because at the end of winter (June) I’ve always had to bring the budget to a zero balance.  This normally was costing me $350 for the June payment.  I guess I over reacted because I have a $135 surplus on my GAS budget and they asked me to stop sending money.

Vincent, I went ahead and spent the extra $20 to have them install the decoder just so there was zero hassles when I got the locomotive.  I’ve been hesitant myself to order one because of the “DC” sound system, but they assured me everything would work; we shall see.  It is the Blueline.  Model Railroading magazine reviews claim it will pull 68 cars, we shall see.

Rob, that was nice of you to take your neighbors bull (no pun intended).  In High School I lived in the country and our neighbor’s donkey was standing in the middle of a highway.  I went out and tried to lead the donkey into my yard, but he was stubborn as a mule!  I had to pull the tractor out on the highway and lead the donkey off the road.  I wound up leading the animal back to my neighbor’s farm and leaving the tractor and donkey in their front yard since I couldn’t un hook him due to his biting and trying to kick me.  I can only imagine herding a bull around.

Duke,

The Friends Of Toledo model Railroaders (FOTMRR) will have a train show at the Lucas County fairgrounds on 26 APR 09. Early admission is $8 (0930-1100) general admission (1100-1600) is $4.

This is a decent show; used rolling stock (TYCO, Bachmann, and Mehano) is typically $1 each or 10 for $9.  Used locomotives run $5 to $50.

You bet I'm happy! I'm happy that I'm here for another day. I'm happy that we got some much needed rain. I'm happy that the storm has passed through here and is gone. Am I happy that the storm will now be bugging you? Yes! Why? Because now you will find out why I'm so darned happy!

Good morning DINERS!!!  Man the temp is suppose to be 74 today, TAKE THAT OLD MAN WINTER!!!!  Maybe the cold is finally leaving.

I guess its getting close to yard working time.   The wife started some plants in the basement, but the seem to be going in the wrong direction.  The plants were doing real good, and now seems like they aren't.

Well I need to order some breakfast, pretty hungry this morning.

Good morning all,

Busy day/night yesterday, busy again today. Staff meeting with THAT editor yesterday went well, had to make another trip to the Czech Village, then tried to get some much-needed raking done in the yard...and the Chief decides he wants to go do a controlled burn at some dude's farm. Got back home about 930PM...asleep by 10:30.

Today, two shoots in North Liberty (a grand opening and a "Child Safety Day" at a credit union), then back home to the station to scrub fire apparatus, clean the station, move tables, move food product...etc., etc., etc. All for our FD pancake breakfast tomorrow.

Early bedtime tonight...I think we're due at the station around 0500 tomorrow, with the doors opening at 0700.

Geesh.

Weekend?

What weekend?

Oh well...it's supposed to turn cloudy and rainy later today, cold and wet tomorrow, cold for the first half of the week.

As the man says, have a goodun.
