Jeff- Yours looks great also. And do you mean to say when you want to run a train, you have to clean of a whole bunch of stuff first????? Gooood! I thought I was the only one. I do not know how does that much stuff get scattered around.Confused

No, you're not the only one. It goes with the territory when your layout doubles as your work bench.

Mornin' everyone!

Rob I third or fourth the suggestion that you should get a medal for all you are doing.  Hopefully you and your wife can get a break from it soon.......  My Father died back in 2001 of a heart attack at the age of 88.  For the last 30 years of his life he was the caregiver for my Mother.  Mom had Sclerosis of the Liver, Osteoporosis, and finally Dementia.  My sister (the Reverend) decided that she wanted to take care of Mom for the rest of her time (she was 84 at the time), so I moved Mom out to South Bend to live with my sister.  Four months later my sister called and said, "Come get her out of here!  We can't take much more of this!"  My other sister and I found her a spot in assisted living at a Senior Home.  In 2003 we had a massive ice storm here in the Finger Lakes and electric was off all over for several days.  The Assisted Living Facility had only back-up emergency power and had no heat.  Day 2 of the outage I brought Mom to my house as I had heat (wood stove and natural gas heater built in that doesn't use electric) and light (candles, kerosine lamps, and propane camping lanterns).  She was at my house for 3 days and nights.  Thought I would never get her out of here!!!!!!!!!!  All day long she would interrupt everything I was doing because she wanted to know where I was, and her favorite conversation was the same as she had been using for 30+years.  "Oh the pain!  You don't know what it is like!  Oh the pain!!!"  She was on a pain patch that kept her pretty much numb........  She just liked to share.....Whistling  Of course with the dementia she would ask a question, I'd answer it, she would thank me, and then ask exactly the same question again 20 or 30 times a day.  My Father was a Saint!  Anyway, I have some vague idea of what you folks are dealing with.

Jeffrey keep out of any direct line with that big yellow thing............ It can really burn ya!

Currently 46°F here in the Finger Lakes with a high around 55°F later this afternoon.  Partly cloudy skies but all told a beautiful day out there.

John the engine facility looks great!

Hope everyone has a good one!

 Good morning.

It's 46 and clear here in the Sportsman's Paradise. The high is due to be in the low 70's and it will be clear and sunny.

Weather Alert! Due to the presence of an unusually bright yellow orb which has yet to be identified it is suggested that outdoor activity be limited to short periods not to exceed 30 minutes at a time. Staying out longer can and has resulted in skin damage that while not fatal has been known to be very uncomfortable.

Spent part of yesterday working on locomotives, in particular lightly weathering one of my UP GP40's. I eventually got the effect I wanted, subtle and understated and not something that's going to jump out, grab your eyes and scream 'LOOK AT ME!'. I see too much of that on my friends layouts and to me at least it doesn't look good. Today I'll probably be busy cleaning up the layout. With all the projects I've been working on materials have gotten strewn about and are in the way.Even as heavy as they are my two SDP40F's don't take kindly to something like a paint brush lying on the track or a roll of solder for that matter. There's also numerous bits of paper and a myriad assortment of tools (Dremel, multimeter, drill bits, etc) that need to be policed up.

Today's Weather for:

Rob, my man.....you do deserve a medal!  I couldn't do it.....and the wife knows it!  She couldn't do it either!  You've got your home and your relaxation (hobby) all topsy turvey, and thats gotta be putting a strain on your relationships too.  Heck, the only thing you have thats constant is your work around the farm!  And if you do too much of that, everybody probably grumbles that your not paying enough attention to them!  Shoot, you need two or three medals!

Rob-I'm in full agreement with PC here. Audrey and I had our moments with her sickness and the lack of sleep and the frustrations and all---marriage --in sickness and in health can do these things but to deal with IL illness issues---yes--it will turn things upside down----you have our respect---that is for darn sure. If you have a bike ---take the thing out for a run. I know that it did me good to do that--the trainstuff was too dang close to home and I would spend more time worrying about her than do even the trainstuff. Can we suggest maybe a few medals?Smile,Wink, & GrinBowBow

 Evening all.

I suppose I'll get in more, it's now spring break over here, and I'll be enjoying it thoroughly, especially since Deadliest Catch finally starts tommorow. Can't wait for that.

Not much new over here, except the weathers been nicer.

I guess I'll check in tommorow.

Hope you all had a blessed Good Friday and Easter, plus a relaxing day today if you didn't have to w*rk.

Time for a night-cap...hot chocolate with whipped cream, and a small bowl of Cherrios and Strawberry-Banana yogurt please Chloe.  Haven't posted in a while, but have been busy with the car repair building project from Sunday afternoon to this evening.  It's a Bachmann kit, and while simple, just about every important large piece was warped. That is a pain, but not a deal-breaker.  This is the site, and here's the track re-alignment to the new building.  The ballasting was finished by yesterday evening, and here's how things stand tonight. A closer look at the building. I added housings inside for the doors to roll up into. They're the grey bits over the doors.  The roof isn't glued on yet, and the walls are just snug fit tot he foundation. I figure I need to be able to get inside easily for a while. Now it's theh car lift (which Bachmann make upside down for some strange reasonConfused, and i must have a small interior building or two,if there's room.

I'm bookmarking this page, and starting over on reading pages.  The last I read was 29 I think.

Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayer for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel

Tall glass of cool lemon water, please.

My UPS driver didn't get the day off after all (someone with more seniority beat him to it) so he delivered our train stuff. All the particular track sections are there, so I'll be ready to get going on the layouts as soon as something permanent is arranged for the Inlaws.

Tomorrow wife has appointments she must go to, so I'll be stuck caring for FIL all day. Will have to get up early just to do the farm chores before she has to take off. Ugh...not a happy camper but will do what I must. At least there is an end to this in sight now.

The job is going pretty good.  Its a job, I guess.

I have no idea how many pages I'm behind.

I will try to pop in here when I can.

I'm good on the tunes; don't really like classic rock.

Sawyer: Geesh! "Classic rock?" Guys, the lad is calling the tunes I listened to in high school and college "classic rock."

Chloe? Better set me up with some Geritol...I'm feeling OLD all of a sudden...

Sigh

Oh well, here's the playlist for you anyways: Ugly Kid Joe: "I hate everything about you." Guns 'n Roses: "I used to love her (but I had to kill her)." Motley Crue: "Girl, don't go away mad (girl, just go away). J. Giels Band: "Love stinks." Aerosmith: "What it takes." Bon Jovi: "Shot through the heart." Bruce Hornsby: "The show goes on." Buddy Holly: "It doesn't matter anymore." The Cars: "Bye, bye love." Chris Issak: "Wicked game." The Commodores: "Sail on." The Cyrkle: "Red rubber ball." Electric Light Orchestra: "Evil woman." Eric Clapton: "Bad love." The Fortunes: "You've got yer troubles (I've got mine)." Gary Allan: "Smoke rings in the dark." George Strait: "Easy come, easy go." Gin Blossoms: "Found out about you." Johnny Cash: "Understand your man." Kenny Logins: "I'm allright." KISS: "Hard luck woman." Led Zeppelin: "Babe, I'm gonna leave you." The Mavericks: "All you ever do is bring me down." Peter, Paul, and Mary: "Don't think twice, it's allright." REO Speedwagon: "Time for me to fly." Simon and Garfunkel: "I am a rock." The Smithereens: "Blood and Roses," and "The blues before and after." Whitesnake: "Fool for your loving."

An ecclectic blend to be sure...but one I've found therapeutic on many occassions.

Good afternoon/evening all!

ORDER UP FRIENDS!!!   Dinner is ON ME!!!!

I have great news, I just took my Orientation Level Final Exam today for NJ Transit... PASSED!!!  Looking forward to the next portion of the training, learning all about air brake systems and such...  I am glad to see that you all are doing well...  I hope nothing rough has befallen anyone other than the Sinus Issues that Eric is dealing with... (Hope you feel better soon!!!)

I have been on two "riding assignments" si far.  A riding assignment is where I, as a student engineer, go to a signup location, and meet a train crew and ride along with them for the day...  Extremely satisfying, putting all the information that is floating in my head together and making sense!

Bye the way, for you guys that are interested, the responsibility is totally on the engineer when it comes to movement in yards...  This is where 90% of engineers get in trouble, is movements made at Restricted Speed...

NORAC (Northeastern Operating Rules Advisory Committee) 9th Edition

Rule 80:  Restricted Speed

Movements made at restricted speed must apply the following three requirements as the method of operation:

1.  Control the movement to permit stopping within one half the range of vision short of:

     a.  Other trains or railroad equipment occupying or fouling the track,

     b.  Obstructions,

     c.  Switches not properly lined for movement,

     d.  Derails set in the derailing position,

     e.  Any signal requiring a stop.

AND

2.  Look out for broken rail and misaligned track.

AND

3.  Do not exceed 20 MPH outside interlocking limits and 15 MPH within interlocking limits.  This restriction applies to the entire movement unless otherwise specified in the rule or instruction that requires Restricted Speed.

Well, I'm off to begin studying the next section of my books!  God bless!!!  Please send me a PM if you have any prayer requests, I will gladly give them to the pastor of my church to put on our prayer list...  Have a great week if I don't get a chance to stop in later!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Sawyer: "Hey, hey, what can I do?" Good Led Zeppelin tune... I could recommend some Motley Crue and Guns 'N Roses for ya to listen to...perfect tuneage for this kinda situation...

I'm good on the tunes; don't really like classic rock. Thought that line came from an old beatles song though, but oh well. Country would help if I was heartbroken, but to be honest, I'm both glad and sad it's over. Sad, because I really loved her and I'm gonna miss her a lot, but happy because I've lost a bunch of stress and she's also happy, and we're still gonna be friends.

Chris, sometimes if the wife HAS to use that Chili's gift card, you just gotta suck it up and help her out, right? Laugh LOL

Yeah...it was a toughie allright. Then again, she sat through my shooting an Easter egg hunt, and a librarian...so the least I could do was man-up and sit with her at Chili's. WhistlingDinner

Sawyer: "Hey, hey, what can I do?" Good Led Zeppelin tune... I could recommend some Motley Crue and Guns 'N Roses for ya to listen to...perfect tuneage for this kinda situation...

Chloe, a mug of that cat psychosis inducing boot coffee please, it's kinda cold and wet here today; THAT might take some of the chill off.

THAT editor sent me praise and "props" for what I turned in Friday... I'm working on something hopefully clever for the egg hunt, and figuring out what I need to do for a big group effort we've got coming up. Our monthly freebie paper, The NoJoCo (Northern Johnson County) for the end of the month is to have a big feature on the rebirth of the Czech Villiage in Cedar Rapids. The area was hit real hard by last year's flood.

Right now, I might spend a big chunk of Wendesday going from business to business. Then it's to a joint Johnson County Supervisors and County Conservation Meeting (instead of the monthly school board meeting...YAY!!!!!!!!) where a historic bridge at Sutliff will be discussed. One of the three spans of this very old truss bridge went bye-bye in the flood. FEMA has offered to repair the bridge, but the County has to take back ownership. A local group has "ownership" currently. IF the County does NOT take it back, FEMA has offered to destroy/remove what's left, regardless of ownership. Makes little to no sense to me...then again, I'm not too hip on federal bucks financing the project either way.

Eric, if the ladies keep running back to you for rescue/recuperation, maybe their heads aren't screwed on as good as Sawyer's is. That, or you need to fish in a different pond... Oops Hey, the building looks great, even this far along (and getting better as you go)!

Sawyer, good to see you're keeping your 'valuables' with you in case of a storm. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Eric, well, it's Middle School, and next year it'll be High School. Heck, it's a rollercoaster.

As to being her "safe island", I told her if she ever needed a friend, come find me.

Thanks Jim, hey man, I do some stupid stuff sometimes, but it's jsut teens messing around; for example, was jumping over my friend earlier this week, he was getting up, top of his shoulders hit my shins, I hit the ground and rolled. I don't do anything real stupid (drugs, alchol, cigarretes, etc.) and i get good grades; got my head screwed on right like that.

As to having my valuables with me; I wanted to be able to have one loco with me in the worst, lol, and hey, just slips into my pocket.

Good Morning, Zoe. Yep, it's been too long since I got in here - eleven pages? In 3 days? Sigh I'd better order the #2 breakfast special and a glass of Ed's OJ, and I may still be wading through all the posts by lunch (or dinner) time. Oh, and make sure my coffee doesn't come from that 'boot' batch, please. Don't want to go all wacko like Spring has been...

First off, Happy (belated) Easter to all. Sorry I missed all of yesterday's yummies in here. I'm partial to the big chocolate bunny for my treat, well, that or some nice hot cross buns and a cup of coffee. After church, I went and treated myself to (Easter) dinner out - had beef prime rib. Dinner

Hope everybody dodged the nasty stuff over the weekend (and does the same today). I looked at that NOAA map this morning, and it still was going on, from the looks of it.

Thumbs Up David, you might see if there are internet computers at your local library (or if they have internet cafes, get your folks to have a cup of coffee (or two...) while you stop by the Diner. (Hey, just a thought that shouldn't involve much cash outlay - for you, anyway...)Hope you've been able to do some MRR'ing stuff in Orlando - I think there are some good LHS'es there, if I remember correctly.

Chris, sometimes if the wife HAS to use that Chili's gift card, you just gotta suck it up and help her out, right? Laugh LOL

Gee, maybe I'm not a 'proper' Midwesterner! The only place I can think of where I've heard 'piggies' mentioned, would be in a nursery rhyme, and I wouldn't recommend singing/saying that one in any bar around here...Smile,Wink, & Grin

Well, Zoe, how about a BLT, cheesey fries and a RBF please. Sheesh! - about 3 pages down and another 8 to 10 to go...

Ray, I don't have any documents nearly that old (or even old-looking); yours looks neat. Probably my oldest documents are some wedding photos from my parents' wedding, and a college photo of my mother or one of her (in New York - maybe Long Island?) in a cart being pulled by a goat. Of course, I don't recall seeing any carts pulled by goats or ponies, either one, when I was younger...

Todd, I always wondered what the 'correct' words to use instead of 'gotten' were - I'm so used to that (Hmmm, maybe I am a good ol' Midwesterner after all..Whistling)  I'll have to ask my librarian friend in Memphis (with the Masters in English literature) what is the kerrekt way to say that. (Oops - Sorry there, Chris!) Smile,Wink, & Grin

Galaxy - Grrrrooooaaaannnnn!! (See, I read your posts!).Laugh And I'm sure that Garry will love it, too!

Barry, that sounds outstanding that Audrey's getting around so much better! Bow for her!Yeah!! (and keep that stick handy when you go out the back way...)

RT, good to see you poke your nose in again (before we sent out the bloodhounds after ya).Smile

Nik.n - loved our joke also! Thumbs Up (and welcome back!)

PC, very nice Easter card you posted. Yeah!!

CN Charlie, I hear you on the link between washing my car and it pouring down - that's why I try to wait it out and let the next front come through and wash it for me. But somehow, the other part doesn't work (not washing = NO rain...). Ah, well...

By the old clock on the wall, I see I'd better head for home now (before they keep me in for the night at w**k...). I'll be back later if there's time after MRR club tonight and catch up on the other dozen pages of posts, I think...

Blessings,

Sawyer -  Hmmmmm... It'll happen again....and again.....

Hey Todd, Rob, Galaxy, I was uhh..."indisposed".  Chloe's in the kitchen, ran out of coffee at the counter.

Day went quick, can't wait to go to work tomorrow.  No, really!  I hate being home sick.  Wastes work time, and I don't feel like doing stuff here either.  I'll just carry my head with me tomorrow.

Hey Rob, while yer back there could you get ole Sawyer a double RBF. He needs one.

Sawyer- Sorry young dude.

lol, I'm ok. I'll take a bacon Cheeseburger though. Don't worry about it man; I was kinda not feeling the same either (like, she wasn't as into texting me, and I could tell, and then after Thursday and then being stresses the next two days, I'm kinda feeling a weight off of my shoulders now that me and her are just good friends. Y'all know what I mean?)

Remeber how you guys said it was gonna be a rollercoaster with women? Well, my girlfirend broke up with me again. She said she didn't feel the same way, and I could kinda tell. What's funny is, some of my stress has gone away. Right now, I'm missing her a bit, I'm gonna miss her, and I'm a bit depressed, but otherwise, hey hey, what can I do? I'm fine.

AS to my RR, got an idea about an old railine that was torn up that ran from Aiken to Charleston; I think I'll build a mainline layout that has some scenes inspired by towns along that route.

Hello...hello...hello...hello

Guess I'll pour my own coffee refill.

Mighty quiet around here.

Farrier came and trimmed Tinytoons & Melody. No sign of UPS yet. My friend who usually delivers to us has today off, so not sure if we'll get our train stuff today or not.
