I put down the tape for some more roads yesterday (I need to get more plaster to pave them). I also painted some N scale cork to use as sidewalks. I couldn't use it for anything else, so why not.
I think I'm going to dump the idea of using the passenger car as a station. I found a piece of balsa wood that I can use for the platform. It will be about three feet long (enough for three 85 foot cars) and they will be high level platforms, since that's all NJT's building these days. Just need to figure out how tall they will need to be.
I'll try to get some pictures later. Prayers for all in need.

Well it seems like to I need to do some catching up.
I haven't done much layout wise. I finished up a CSX boxcar, well weathered it.
Today, well this morning I helped Jessica (the wife) out at her preschool job. OH BOY, that was fun. The kid that likes train, he and I set up a small track. Then another kid added a baby doll to it, and then a green puppet frog. Of course I started to add in silly stuff. I will say that was pretty fun.

Todd, actually I am staying in the position of Vice-President which I have held for at least a decade now. Funny thing I just thought about is that the president of the committee before Rosa was an associate pastor of a church here in town. He was tragically killed when a 10 wheeler dump truck was in an accident and ended up rolled over onto the man's pick-up truck. They didn't even know he was in it until they rolled the 10 wheeler back upright. He was crushed to death instantly. The man who will become the new President is the associate pastor of the same church now..............

I'm up and shivering...... Currently 12°F here in the Finger Lakes with a high of, hang on to your hats, 18°F this afternoon. I'm ready for spring. If I can get the wood splitter started today, I may get the woodstove cranking for a few more days. I have to get an oil change in the car so my daily trip to feed my sister's cat will take a bit longer today. I have a coupon for the oil change from the dealer that includes a complete check over for her so I'll get it done at the dealership.
Zoe bring on the coffee. Yup! In a FGLK Mug. I will also have a nice big hot bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar if you please.
LSWrrCongratulations on your nomination. It might be nice to ask her to be a “trustee to the board of officers”, you know someone you can provide guidance and instruction from time to time, I think she would be flattered at the opportunity.
Thank you Lee! I plan to enter a motion at the end of the formal election to bestow the title of President Emeritus on Rosa (The lady who has been the president for the past 12+ years). Rosa worked for the city of Geneva for many years as the head of the Human Rights Commission and has been very active in the community in so many ways. Whenever there was a problem in the schools involving "race" she was the first person called. One of my favorite Rosa stories was the time when a young man (8th grader) was being, well, shall we say a PITA and was blaming the color of his skin as the reason why he was being "picked on". I was one of the "accused" teachers in the incident. I walked in the office to see the young man and his mother sitting outside the Vice-Principals office. He had a look like like "we gonna kick ......" on his face. I was getting some paperwork at the counter when I heard Rosa say, "Well Mr. Howard how are you?" Then her arms went around my neck and she gave me a big hug! I looked over her shoulder at the kid sitting there. His expression had turned to one of "Crap!" Came back a few minutes later to hear through the walls of the Vice-Principals office Rosa giving him a major tongue lashing. "When those teachers ask you to do something you WILL do it! Do I make myself clear!?" His attitude did a major turn around after that. Rosa has always been a proponent for getting a good education. Three of her 4 children have advanced college degrees. Two are teachers, and one is the Executive Director of a non-profit organization here in Geneva. The 4th. is Developmentally Disabled and still has to cared for at home. She has been a wonderful friend of mine for the last 25 years. It is very sad to see her start to fail.
Sorry for the rant. Just a difficult time to see the end of an era for the organization..................

GMTRacingJeff - we have a lot of trouble with older factory aluminum wheels leaking from corossion to the heavy plastic sealing coatings up here and I now make sure I inspect the bead area when I fit new tires and scrub it down with a scotchbrite disc if needed. A respray with clear wheel paint keeps the wheel from getting to grotty or the corrosion from easily spreading.
Good morning. It's 33° outside and 73° inside. It's partly cloudy and may get up to around 60° later today. Conditions will remain at partly cloudy. Didn't get a chance to work on the observation car yesterday or any other layout project for that matter. I had to go to the tire shop in town to get a flat dealt with. There was a good reason I couldn't find a hole in the tire as there wasn't one to be found. I had neglected however to check around the bead. A little oxidized aluminum can really cause problems, but it has been corrected and everything is good now. I then most of the rest of the day helping my father clean his yard. Big job there. He loaded while I drove and unloaded. By the time I got home I was to pooped to pop, and for good reason. My blood sugar level was 44. Not good. That was way too low. I finish off some fried fish and fried okra and went to bed for a bit. When I got up later I felt more human. This afternoon I have to go to DeRidder to get one of my shoes repaired. While I'm there I'll get some grocery shopping done and have a look at the 1/87 cars to see if they have anything I don't already have. Get to do some client visiting today and tomorrow then have extended weekend. Tried out the new RS2 that I picked up yesterday and gave the horn a blast or two--just to see 'Spring's' reaction---he jumped backward and tore out of the room, the little fellow is now very nervous about entering that room!! I'm going to have fun with these two because since undec, not having to strip paint and all that other stuff I'll be able to get a proper paint job done on them--right now the one I tested is sitting in the yard----

Lots of snow and wind here but the sun is out this morning and it looks great covering everything. The wind really sculpted the snow.Got most of a day in at the new shop directing yesterday. Couldn't do much more than that as my son would have tied me to the scooter if I did.
Jerry, make the car as heavy as is legal, if you sculpt it, try to keep most of the mass to the rear of the car and add weights there also. Don't unbalance it so much the front wheels want to jump the barrier. The biggest secret is to make sure the axels are straight and clean (we polished ours with metal polish then very carefully removed all the polish residue). The wheels need to be clean and smooth inside and out. Narrow is better, pay attention to the area on the sides where the axels go through. Dry graphite powder seems to work best as a lubricant as it isn't sticky and won't attract dust or dirt. Rub some onto the axels and drop some into the wheel bores then work it in. A little goes a long way. Make sure the rules allow what I've just mentioned as they tend to vary from group to group. The TV ad with the built by participant car beating the probuilt one can be very true. I let my son do all the work on his except the bandsaw work for the basic shape - he finished second and I was much more proud than I would have been had I just handed him a car to use.
I use MRC Prodigy Advanced with good results for a DCC system. The entry level Express works well also though the stationary and mobile decoders have been a pain and I've switched to NCE and Digitrax for the decoders with happy results. Making the change from a DC block setup to DCC was reletively easy though I did end up adding feeders every 3 feet and a 12 gage bus wire once I started using sound.
