Howdy all. Pan fried pork chops mashed potatoes GRAVY, fried apples and a glass of Dr Pepper please.

Sounds like everybody's been busy. So have I. Too much to list so I won't bore you with the details

Ray- Congrats on the grandbaby, prayers were answered for a great birth and I love the name Petey for a beagle. Great! Aaaaaaa rroooooorroooooo! (feeble attempt at a beagle bark)

Rob- Ditto on the diner comments. You got it on adding the wife to the prayer list. How about a wide basin but a narrow river??Just a thought.

Garry- rest assured as soon as the interior is worked out. The bait shop pizza will rise again. The chest freezer out front is already there.

Nik .n- I didn't make it inside to let you know, but rest assured your sister was in my prayers as well as you and your family.

The little brown lab wants some attention and since she is so cute I'll give her some so catch ya'll later

Prayers for everyone.

OK, I need some suggestions. Problem is how to work in a river on wife's layout. I would like to use both trestles (hard to see, but they're there). Just doesn't make sense to have that wide of a river or wash coming from so small a mountain, but what can I do? Another problem with re-locating the trestles is they are strait and there just isn't enough table to do much with the Lumber Mill area without turning the track immediately after crossing the trestles. Is there a tighter radius EZ track than what comes with the track pack?

Chloe, please assemble steak and eggs for me tonight. To heck with the colestrol.  RBF  to chase.

Rob, I can give you no help with the EZ track or the  Not Normal track, but in regard   to the river or wash.  I guess it depends on where the setting or area for your wife's layout is going to be.  I don't think I have read where you mentioned that.  But having come from the south west you most certainly know about dry washes that have some significant bridges over them and then there are bridges such as the Kate Shelly bridge in Iowa which is a huge bridge built by the C&NW and now is being built anew by the Uncle Pete. It has to be 25 times plus the width of the river it goes over.  Believe me there is a proto type for everything.

Really liking your progress.  To being this far along after having to rebuild your house is just great.  Keep up the good work, much success can be seen coming forward, but don't put off your layout too long or you will be completely swallowed in by the HOnorable Scale your wife has chosen.

J.R.

Thanks for the pic.  Really sweet!  Using foam is a new venture for me since it wasn't popular when I last did any modeling.  I can see where a transition to ballasted track would not be a problem.  I use to use plaster on my crossings as the real ones on the M&E in Dover NJ had asphalt in the crossings.  I used the same method, pour the plaster, let it set a bit and then run old large flange plastic wheel trucks to gain clearance for the scale wheels.

I like the idea of foam for the base. It would be easier to create realistic topography with foam than a sheet of plywood!  Of course in this case, most of the scenery is industrial street and factory site.  I'm trying to see if I can work in the steep rise of Stevens Point that the railroad curved around on the shoreline.  This area is now called Sinatra Drive, a far cry from it's appearance when dad worked at the plant.  The plant and virtually everything around it is gone, redeveloped into riverfront housing for the rich....

Chloe, how about some warm apple pie and a decaf..... Mom used to make a great apple pie.... sigh... at least I have the recipe....

Good Afternoon All,

Ray - great news - hope it all goes well - our prayers for your daughter. Don't forget your vitamins so you can keep up with that beagle.

Eric - on my layout i white glued and latex caulked the track right to the painted foam sheet. You then have lots of options. I had some track ballasted, some with cardboard then styrene sheet up to and between the track to simulate a road, and some wood crossings. It all worked well, but the ppart I liked best was the stone works where I used ll plaster and then ran an old set of Tyco diesel trucks back and forth in the plaster to cut just enough clearance. If my accounts is still imtact, I'll try to post some photos.

OOOH top of the page at dinner time too. Cards on the register folks.

Just about time to toodle off to the house. Catch y'all later, J.R.

Rob, prayers for your wife.  My sister had that issue.

Ray, congrats!!

Question; My Hoboken Shore RR was a street operation.  Should I glue my track right to the foam base I'm going to use and add the street?  Or should I use a sub-roadbed for the track and then add the street material.  Previously my RR's were class1 with high heavily ballasted track.

My benchwork came today and the 44 tonners are in at the LHS up home.  Time to start work!

Ray ... SUper good news abot the grand daughter. It's worth walking the dog for that!

Rob ... Yes, I'll be glad to include your wife on the P. L. (prayer list)

Ryan ..did you see my answer to your question last week?

Regret to advise that bait shop pizza is no longer available here. Competition from the new place located at Hilltop (4 miles east on US 68) was too much for bait shop pizza cuissine. In our little county (Rednecksville) the three best restaurants are...... Cracker Barrel at the Interstate....... and the Godfather Pizza Franchise at the Marathon gas station. ....and the state park lodge.

Happy Model Railroading

Large coffee in a AT&SF mug, please & thanks.

***Robby, I wouldn't sweat it, as that is not an uncommon female problem and she will most likely feel 100% better afterwards.

***Ray, Congrats to all on the addition to the family lines.

***Jerry, I find coming here to the Diner is life enriching, if not theraputic. Just the right mix of humor, inspirational photos (both historic and of layouts), and the sharing of stories. And of course a great knowledge base for having questions answered.

Today we drove up to the foam insulation place and literally filled the back of our pickup truck with leftover scrap foam. For a couple bucks worth of gas to go pick it up, how could we resist. We now have a new problem...where to store it until it becomes part of the layouts?Dunce

Wife is off to help her folks again today. I fear she is wearing herself down trying to do too much. Wouldn't hurt to add her to your prayer lists, for those who have them.

Must be a forest fire in a nearby valley. Heavy haze from wood smoke is drifting through here today.

Morning, Diners! Zoe, since it's not too far from lunch, I'll have a BLT and a RBF, please 'n' thankyouma'am!

I couldn't get into the Diner last night - think it was the WiFi at my usual place (they've been having some problems with it), and/or the forum. It was getting late as I went to post, so I just gave up and went home. Glad the doors are open this morning. Thumbs Up

Robby, better watch out - wife finds out you're talking about her in here, and she might clean your clock. ShockOops Good to hear your area is getting some better weather (as we are today - supposed to reach the 60's (F))

Barry, I'm not sure about your question, but that sure sounds like a Murphy attack to me. Does that go with the old "things happen in threes" saying? Wink Hopefully, not!

Jerry, since the rest of us don't have that much time, that explains why we're so loopy, eh?EvilWhistling

Ray, you'd also better start locating the engineer's cap and the Thomas the Engine set for that new granddaughter, right? Yeah!! And of course, in the Diner, photos of new grandkids are definitely on-topic!

I'll be at the window booth, talking with Ray about the finer points of 'training' grandkids properly (so they can be at the next operating session, yes?)....

Prayers for the granddaughter on the way (and Ray's son and DIL), for Jeff's Dr's. visit, and for the rest of us in need of healing and comfort.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Goooooooooood  Morning World!

I was just making my way into the diner for breakfast when my phone rang.  Checked the caller ID and it was my son's cell phone.  He took his wife to the doctor this morning to see how soon she will deliver, and she was admitted to labor. So........

Granddaughter #2 is on the way!!!!

Of course that means Grampa has to feed and walk Petey the beagle several times today while my son is with his wife at the hospital. Grandma Harrison gets granddaughter #1 for a few days.  Looks like some of the layout work for today is on hold.......

Flo just a coffe to go this morning!

See you later!

Jerry,  Looks like you are doing more layout work than the rest of us.  Good for you.Thumbs Up

JR,  Have fun with 3rd PlanIt.  We made several small practice ones before we started the current layout.  The enjoy using it as a simulator after it is done.

Der John, Now I need to post some new pictures.  The normal range for Calcium is 8.5 – 10.4 MG/DL mine is running 10.6 to 11.2 over the last 6 years.  Before I went to Kuwait it was running at about 9.

Yesterday I felt like a human pin cushion; I think I have 7 new holes in my hands and arms.  I should have the results back in a few days.

Projects on the L.S. &W. this week:

Berkshires are out of the back shop and are in the paint shop getting yellow trim on the boiler catwalk and pilot.  Made awnings for the cab side windows, and I’m still shopping for appropriate crew members to run the locomotive.

Mountain chassis is in the back shop waiting for the “test” decoder to be removed and the Tsunami heavy steam decoder, speaker, and rear LED to be installed.  The boiler and cab are in the paint shop getting the yellow trim and awnings installed.

0-4-0 Chassis is waiting on a new can motor. The body is in the paint shop getting yellow trim and reporting marks.

Thoughts and Prayers to those on the sick and injured list(s).

Its going to be 57deg. today.   Time to wash a car!!!!

Rob the cars are made by Hot Wheels.  I looked for them last night, and they were so tiny compared to the other ones.   They have a bettle, porsche (if thats spelled right), hummer, hot rod, ferarrai (I know thats spelled wrong), and a few other cars.

Then wife has to go to the doc today, to see about a future operation.  Shes real nervous, but shes had this problem since she was about 16.  Now shes 29, and she is tired of the pain.  What pain?  Her left (tube) is bad, and has to be removed.  The last operation the doc. didn't take it out.  Why?  Who knows.  Plus that side is "leaking" something....well that's good to know!!!!!!!!!! GEEEEZZZZZ.   Now she has to have another operation.  That also depends on when I get back to full-time work.  She will have to miss 4-6 weeks of work.

Well I guess I will watch alittle tv, the bank, wash a car, and the doctors office.  Boy what a day, huh.

Everybody have a good one!!

Mornin an irish coffee Zoe.

JR,,,,, warmer weather is heading your way. It's suppose to get up to bout 60 here today and maybe 70 by Saturday.

A boy is writing a paper on childbirth and asks his parents, "How was I born?"
His mother awkwardly answers, "The stork brought you."
"Oh," says the boy. "Well, how were you and Daddy born?"
"Oh, the stork brought us, too, and Grandpa and Grandma."
The boy begins his paper, "This report has been very difficult to write due to the fact that there hasn't been a natural childbirth in my family for three generations."

Good Morning All,

A toasty 6F out this morning but the sun is cutting through the overcast and we're hoping for better. I'll have a regular and a Danish please Zoe.

Started working with the tutorial for 3rd planit so we'll see how it goes. Lots of features in there but I really need to get comfy with the basics first. I usually use the aircraft school of layout design, you know, pile it here pile it thereWhistling. I'll keep you posted.

Jeff - that Murphy guy works way too much O.T. Wish he'd take a day off.

Lots to do moving again today. I'd like to be back up and running come Monday so lots to do over the next few days. To add to the fun my youngest ran my Focus onto a rock and I think the cam belt jumped which bent all the valves when he tried to restart. No end to the fun round here.    Catch y'all later, J.R.

Good morning.

It's 55 and clear heading for a high in the upper 70's. It will be partly cloudy.

Did quite a bit of work outside yesterday and old Murphy was in good form. My father and I were cleaning up pine straw and debris from the lower part of his property during the later part of the morning after it had warmed up a bit. He had the older tractor already started and warmed up when I got there so we set right to work. After about three hours work we decided to take a break. I shut the tractor down for a little while but when I went back to start it the engine wouldn't fire. We checked the carburetor, distributer, wires and plugs. Nothing wrong there. It was getting plenty of gas, but it just wouldn't start. We went to start the new tractor and found it's gas tank was dry. We filled the tank and tried starting it but it wouldn't start. It was obvious it would have to be primed. Looking at the way the fuel system is designed we quickly realized that we would have to take a bunch of stuff off in order to prime it. I got to thinking about that and told my father I'd be right back. I went into the shop and came back with a spray can of parts cleaner. He looked at me with a puzzled expression and said 'We're trying to get it started, not clean it'. I pointed out a line on the label and he saw the light. 'FLAMMABLE'.  I sprayed some into the intake while he cranked it and it kicked right over. We got the rest of the work done then went back to see if we could start the old one started again when we both noticed a wire hanging free beneath it. The PTO safety had vibrated loose. After it was reconnected the engine kicked right over. Because of all that I got back home over an hour later than I had planned. I hate Murphy!

Gotta go see the foot doc this morning so he can poke and prod my feet some more. He won't be happy that I'm having to wear one of the old walking braces while the shoe for that foot is being repaired but it can't be helped. It's not like I can just buy shoes off the rack.

Good Evening Diners!

Der John, Thanks for the photo of the spruce trees and yes you are quite right as Christmas trees generally have the branches going up. I guess I was thinking of the 3 40+foot specimens in our front yard and I was definitely disctracted by the DVD I was watching at the time. The sight and sound of a CN Mountain roaring past tends to make one forget things like tree branches and I was playing it annoyingly loud as my wife was out.   Scale wise the trees in the kit would be on the tall side so I will be ok with the downward branches.

Well we didn't get above freezing today but it was still nice not having to plug in the car.

Tomorrow my wife and I are taking my mother out for lunch to a nice restaurant for her 95th birthday. She doesn't want gifts so hopefully she will enjoy some good food and a little pampering. She is doing amazingly well for her age, what with living on her own with only a little home care.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.

Chamomile tea, please & thanks.

Question: Who manufactures these $1 cars you speak of? I have yet to see any at Walmart. Sure would pick some up for that price.

Healing thoughts to those in need.
