I think your water feature turned out great. Very realistic. I would however replace the "woodland scenics" tall grass you see there in the foreground with a product called "Silflor" made by Scenery Express. Expensive but worth it.

selector Phil, I like your models. They are indicative of no mean skill I would say. It will be a pleasure to see them established in a setting some time.

Thanks Crandell,
I always enjoy seeing pictures of your work, too.
I like to build all of the buildings before I do scenery, that way I can make a foundation for each building and scenic right up to the foundation. Then, after all of the coloring and texturing is done I glue the buildings to their foundations. It makes the buildings look like they've been there a long time and it eliminates gaps between the building and the ground, The downside to this approach is that I spend years constructing buildings before I get to do any scenery and that can get a little monotonous. For a diversion, I'll build a piece of rolling stock or a Jordan Highway Miniatures vehicle. BTW, building that little Olds was like doing brain surgery on a fruit fly - there are tiny parts and then really tiny parts. I have two more structures planned for this part of the layout, then it will be scenery time.
Phil, I'm not a rocket scientist; they are my students.
Ray, your layout is really looking good. Quite the vision you have there.
I imaged the new water with a locomotive and better lighting this evening so that the bright sky outside the basement window doesn't make some items turn blue.
I had a little extra time this afternoon, so I finished Betty Joe's garage. Now she has a place for her 1904 Oldsmobile:

This post will introduce my newest scene on my HO (fictional) Heartland Division of CB&Q. It is located in a corner. All of the background buildings are undersized to force the perspective. The roads winding around between the tress get very narrow in the distance. The stream and waterfalls are made from WS "Realistic Water" and "Water Effects" You may notive the funeral in progress in the cemetary. The hoiuses will be part of my town of Valley Heights, and the station is in place out of view to the left. The waterfalls are named "Standing Falls". Where did you get that obs? My Silver Fountain diner/parlor/observation is one I kitbashed from a Walthers Budd observation. Thanks for asking. Wow, nice job! Thank You....... Here is other side.....

Other than adding the side door and roof vents, what else was done? Looking at proto pics it looks like the windows are dead on on your model.

Holy Moley! Three pages of incredible work and it's only Friday night.......
I have been working on trackside details again. Here are a couple shots of railbars I have been adding and then painting the rails. On both of these, the rail has just been painted. I still need to clean up the top of the rails (tomorrow....).
I have also made a couple trackside rail stands. Railroads used to like to have some good rail stored along the ROW in case they needed it. The stands keep the rail up off the ground and easily available for repairs.
This last one points out the difference between the rail on the stand which has been "rusted" and the rail as is on the atlas flextrack.

We'll get there sooner or later!
Well, I thought I would post up my first ever gondola load. Just did it today. The gondola is brand new and will need weathering, but for now, I'm just happy to have a custom scrap load. It will hopefully be removable... lol....
I set up a small little photo area and hope it looks good. Tried to get in as close as possible to get maximum detail - hope it's not to big for the forum..... Let me know if it is and I'll back them off next time.
Ya all think it's full enough??
P&Slocal I love what you are doing with the photos. It's sepia not black and white, right?

Thanks Rob. The photos are indeed taken in sepia. I prefer the look for an older appearance over the harsher black and white, although b/w would be more common by the 1930s, when the layout is set.
Compare these 2 photos of the same scene, albeit at different times in the layout's progress

Jon,
It almost seems like these could be photographs of the actual railroad at work back in the early 1900's.

I HAVE to ask, where did you find the prototype for this car? And what's in it, used space-station parts?
I have figured out what is wrong with my brain! On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!
DERN!!! Bunch of great work so far, and it's only Friday afternoon. looking around, I'm starting to develop an idea of a small little layout I can put together in my room until I can work on my big mountain hauler when i get the attic as a bedroom.

Proof that Model Railroading is high art!
All you fellas are smokin' today!! Really great stuff.
So, my contribution is modest by comparison, but it is a step forward for me. Let me explain: you may recall an image with the Y6b crossing the girder bridge with canoes below on clear water. I felt the water was a good first effort because the bed of the river was what was most important to me. I have finally decided to fix the water. What I did was to mix another batch of two-part epoxy, a total of about 3/4 cup, and I figured I would try adding a couple of drops of "Hauser Medium Green" available at the crafts section at Wal Mart. But I also wanted some opacity, some murkiness to the water, so I decided to try adding about a teaspoon of Plaster of Paris to the mix. I quickly began to stir what was a dismaying jade green and completely opaque mass. Oooohhhh noooo!
Oooohhh wellll...I poured it anyway after making sure to stir it thoroughly for about five minutes, scraping the bottoms and sides of the plastic honey container I was using. Then I poured it and let it set after using the stir stick to distribute it further than it seemed to want to flow.
Once the epoxy set, I added some gel gloss medium over it and used a wide artist's brush to stipple the surface after I spread it.
Here is an untouched shot, not great lighting, of the results. The "blue" on the far bank is because it is sunny today and blue sky is heavily reflected off a bleached cedar fence about 20' from the window.

Really like that Alex wish i could get those kind of results
