Alex: I have a Badger airbrush and a compressor (not an airbrush compresser though, it's really loud) except all I've painted with them so far were my clouds... I'm still going to get paint and decals "someday" although that's what I said back in October too...Whistling

I've just taken a video of my new GP30 switching New Poland Cement.

Do yourself a favor, just weather that puppy. Don't paint over that kodachrome. One of the best ever paint schemes, and the RR was never even created.

I swear I'm gonna get a loco in that scheme Big Smile

Oh no you don't!

That loco is getting WRS paint, or Tyler will face consequences... If the weather holds up I may be able to lug my Paasche and Compressor and paints out to your house next week. Only downside is my friends switched from Cornell Red to B&M Blue a few times without cleaning the tube for the paint to go up, and now I am stuck with two bottles of purplish paint... Black Eye

Nothing new to update.

We MIGHT have off tomorrow because of the weather. Here's an EPIC STORY: (get the popcorn)

On Thursdays, in the afternoons we have period 8 and then 7 (IDK why). So we're sitting in ENglish (8th) and all of a sudden, the lights go out. A few minutes later, they come back on. All of a sudden, something flies past the windowA few minutes before the bell is about to ring, our principal comes on the intercom. She tells us to ignore the bell and stay in class until further notice. Someone looks out the window and sees a firetruck. We have no clue what's going on. Our principal comes back on the intercom and tells everyone to go to their lockers and immediately report to the gym. One of my friends tells me that the roof has ripped off. When I get in the gym, I look out the window, and the roof is on top of the library. Because of the roof, they  had to park  the busses by the street. When I go to my bus, THE ENTIRE ROOF OF THE GYM IS GONE!!! Just plywood.

Really hoping for that 5 day weekend.

Yeah, it will be repainted or possibly faded till near white then patched for WRS and weathered with dirt and grime...

The only problem is ATSF never retired any merger-scheme GP30s; all of them were repainted in Bluebonnet and most are now BNSF. I renewed my Modeler's License recently for a reason...

I'm 1,000,000% positive it is a second hand loco, not yet in the paint booth.

GG: Nice job on the weathering! That makes me want an airbrush even more. Maybe Christmas...

Tyler: Like the video! Except for the fact that ATSF doesn't run ANYWHERE near the east coast... unless the WRS inherited the unit.

TrainManTy
It'll be available in high quality sometime today, I still have no idea how the site decides when...
It still never added a HQ option to one of mine. And I posted it two weeks ago.

Added more glue to the scenery. And I cut and glued the foam for a new hill. I already have 3 layers on it, I might add one more.

I'm working on another video of my layout. Unfortunately, I found out that the video doesn't work with the computer (either my laptop or the downstaris computer) :( so it will be another stop animation. This one will have more pictures and sound (I completely forgot I have one of those MRC sound stations, DUH!). Should be done in a couple days.

It works now. Looking good so far.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I use the airbrush on equipment with a dark painted surface. Gray's an White's I use oil paints. For the S4, I painted it originally with a gloss black, then used an un-thinned polly scale engine black for weathering. The PAR Boxcar was given a little grime on door and lower half of the car. The trucks were first painted black, then painted with my own mix of brown. BN Green, and CP Action red mixed together. This is thinned a lot with alcohol, and sprayed on the roof. Later I go back and spray unthinned paint to highlight rustier areas. The trucks are also sprayed with unthinned paint, and I don't spray the underbody because no one ever really see's those when the train is in operation. I did the same for The GMRC car, however I sprayed the roof with a black first, and then gave an unthinned coat of brown to give a heavier rust. Gray powders were sprinkled on when it was still wet, and covered with another coat of brown to give a rust texture.

Wow, even my best attempts to weather do not look that good. Realy like the Pan Am boxcar. Anyway, im finally done with putting grass on a part of my layout. It took me 2 whole weeks, and its only around 2.5 square feet!!Grumpy It did not want to stay on some near vertical cliffs.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, or maybe ballasting some track.

Any details on what you did to get that? Paint/thinner ratio, etc... I can't do anything with my airbrush... I need to get another one.

I'm still wondering how the glue didn't freeze.

Because it was 70* in my basement. My hands just turned purple on Friday and they won't be normal again. And yes, my friends have called me "Barney" and "the Purple People Eater". And wearing gloves is really annoying.

hey, they used to call the Vikings D the purple people eaters, lol.

I'm probably going to write up that article this weekend, so be prepared for pics.

Plus there are no CIIM cabs. Walthers makes wrong decals, that's what the problem is.
Go NJT, NJ Transit, New Jersey Transit. Whatever you call it its good. See my pictures and videos here: http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff20/Bapouthetrainman/

I found a Comet I on ebay or $10, so I'm gunna get it. It's really a Comet II (walthers horizon) but the guy numbered at as a CI (5139), although no car is or ever was numbered 5139 (CI cab cars were numbered 5100-5134.) But I might renumber it as a CI, because a CIIM would require a paint job.

I'm going to write that article on making a dense forest instead, b/c it's much easier to get better pics for that.

Hey guys. I have finished recovering from camping and sleeping outside this weekend, what wierd weather! Friday night was FREEZING for sleeping outside w/wind, went down to 5 F. And Saturday it was mild and we all got soaked at night, our snow shelters started turning into lakes. It went all the way up to 43 F in less than 24 hours! The weirdest weather I've ever camped in, that's for sure.

But all in all it was really a really good camp, and my hands didn't turn purple!

Joe: Thanks. I still have a LOT of details to add to the structure! I need to build another loading dock door for railcars as well, currently I have just one, and there's 6 reefers on the layout, all of which are in captive service between the plant and wherever the origin is. On most sessions there will be at least two cars destined for the plant...

I'm still wondering how you glued down scenery wearing gloves...Tongue

Sawyer: Good luck on your article!

The only time my hands turned purple was when I was outside in the below-zero (with wind chill) temperature railfanning wearing fingerless gloves... Whistling

Hmm, I wonder why!... Mine are still purple, so I have to wear gloves almost ALL THE TIME SoapBox which makes almost every thing impossible.Sigh

Glued down some of the scenery last night. I'm not sure what I can do during the time being, but I'll think of something.

In between track repair today I managed to work a bit on a couple other projects.

This is the White River Southern Railroad's humble maintenance yard for the White River Subdivision (there's also the Concord Subdivision). It consists of an old 53' container for storing smaller parts (tie plates, spikes, tools, etc) as well as some larger items such as track bumpers and relay boxes. The railroad equipment available includes a 40' flatcar, two ballast hoppers, a small gasoline speeder with trailer, and whatever empty home-road cars can be spared. Those are stored on the caboose track. The scenery is far from done in this area...

I also sceniced the gravel truck docks for Eyore's Kitty Chow. The ballasting isn't done, and the backdrop needs some work, but it's an improvement over pink foam!

went to my MR club today and got my SD45s and F45 matched up (I set the SD45s speed to match up with my F45 since the club's decoder pro hasn't been updated enough to the decoder in this unit listed; turns out MRC decoders don't have readback). That consist is a real tonnage hog, so much so that I'm thinking of NOT getting another F45 or MUing my U30C to it.

I went to the LHS on Thursday to pick up some Microsol, Dullcote, and the March MR (subscription ran outSad). But somehow, they didn't have ANY styrene that I need for the F40 and CII/station rebuildsShock

All the piping and handrails are attached to the bakery. I applied the decals and weathered to building also.

Went into the garage today to spray a coat of Dullcote. I didn't get everything sprayed because my hands got purple and I had to come inside, even though it was about 40*. Maybe I should explain:

Yesterday, I was at lunch, just talking, when my friend asks me why my hands are purple. I look at them and they are deep purple. So I go to the nurse and she has no clue what it is... Oh crap, I'm gunna lose my hands. So I leave early and go to the doctor. Apparently, since I'm really skinny, I get bad circulation in my hands and feet, causing them to change color, especially in cold weather. So it's no big deal. Well, all day today, my hands were still purple, even though the house was 70*. So if they are still acting weird the next couple days, I might have to go back.

Anyways, found a walthers CI on ebay, so I'll see if I can get my hands on it.

Bottom of Page 4!

I worked a bit on fixing trackwork this morning, once it warms up a bit more, I'll do some more work. I've still got some new equipment (trailers for my impack set) to weather, as well as some recently-OOS service cars to write up waybills and car cards for to put them in service now that I've installed metal wheels on them.

Vincent: Like that F45.

I LOVE faculty meeting days! Got out at 1:04 (usually 2:34) today, so I think I'll finally paint and add the railings, piping, etc. to the bakery.

My F45 came in the mail today!!!

The whole thing looks awesome.

The fans are frickin schweet!! The lift rings are too, but I don't know how to get a close-up of them with this camera. (Cannon PowerShot SX100 IS)

The backend.

The front.

The one Qualm I have with the model is that there aren't any indentions to drill holes for the Winterization hatch. I cut the mounting pegs off and glued it to the roof with CA, maiking sure the groove on it lines up with the grove along the body.

I have yet to run it in yet. When I do that I'll probably try get a video of it up. Then it gets MU'ed to my SD45s and U30C.
