It sounds like I'm defending Walthers. Via USPS, date ordered 01-21-09(online order), packed 01-22-09, recieved on the porch(placed, not thrown) 01-27-09. 4 items ordered 4 items shipped. I quess I should consider myself one lucky guy from what I've been reading. I order on line maybe once a month and except for an item I knew was discontinued, I get what I order. But then like I said once before I order undec. items.
Fedex is interesting. I tracked a package that was picked up in Phili, PA, sent to Wash DC, then to Newark, NJ, then to Lakewood NJ dist. center. The Lakewood center is 40 miles form Phili...... I live 15 miles from Lakewood.... Then, the driver couldn't find the house. There are 24 houses on the block, Next door is #929 on the other side is #925. I guess he couldn't see the #927 on the porch column on my house......
Enough of my pointless, meandering writings. Headed up home again tomorrow. Trying to find a place for dad when the hosp throws him out. At least I get to visit my LHS up home. Heck of a reason to go.

Man, I really went on a spending spree this week. In one day I bought a SM card for my Olympus D550Z camera, a new Nikon L18 camera so I can get the kind of close-up shots I've been wanting to do and a #5 right-hand turnout so I can split the track going to the north engine house. That comes to a total of $202.43. The train budget is gonna be kinda slim for a couple of months or so while I get that paid down. My credit card is smoking!

The car was socked in in our parking lot, and it was like that one 'snow plows' gif that DerJohn has used before - where the plow showers all the snow on your road (or in my case, puts a 'snow dam' across our exit to the street...). I also wasn't having much success finding anyone with an open WiFi so I could get in to the Diner. Zoe, I'll have the oyster stew and in honour of our semi-Canadian weather lately, the swiss steak and mushrooms, plus my usual RBF, please. Thanks!

In the counties south of Cape G., our local news said there were over 35,000 without power, and in Kentucky over 200,000 out of power, so you may want to keep those people in your prayers.
Mercifully, our power hasn't gone out, though it has a couple/three times dimmed briefly (split-second kind, where I would ask "Did that flicker?"). I dug out the car (for the second or third time) yesterday afternoon, but then got stuck in the snowbank when I tried to get the car out to the street. Finally called up one friend, who came over just after nightfall with two shovels and got me dug out and the car onto the street (on the side out of the narrow traffic lane). I was able to get going this morning okay, but I took a different (less than 3 percent grade) route to work to minimize the worst of the hills. Lot of those 'ice-potholes' on some of the roads on the way, so a bouncy ride in parts.Yeehaw! Actually, going to work was described in my supervisor's call this morning as "At your discretion", but I was starting to get cabin fever, without being able to get in to the Diner. So, I decided to come in - besides, I figure that for the other two days out, I will have to use ETO, so if I came in I could get to the Diner and (nominally) be 'at w**k'...
Sawyer - congrats on introducing some of your fellow students to MRR'ing. If you have a Hobby Lobby or such in your area, that future MRR'er may be able to find some bargains on the starter sets there, since some places try to reduce their stock of them after Christmas. Might have him check that and online places for the best outfits and deals.

Johnboy - The house unfortunately is dead stop now as the chief building inspector became involved and didn't like what he saw. We had meeting with the insurance and the two contractors involved and the short story is a lot of the work inside from the first contractor will need redoing beyond what we've already done over. We're waiting for a letter from the city toitemize what they want and then it's back to the insurance company to get authorization for the second contractor to do the work as we refuse to let the first bunch back. We also need to hire an engineer to sort out the walls which are "hinged" which is no longer to code and is now an issue since the first bunch ripped off the entire roof and made it an issue. So work is stopped until all the issues are resolved. But thanks for asking. J.R.

Oh, I'm sorry. I left you all hanging, didn't I? I didn't mean to. I tried getting in the door last night but all I got was the Ooops message.
They looked at it all, took x-rays, etc., etc., and in the end they agreed with the original diagnosis but added two new meds just for good measure. They also gave me another day of bedrest.

Morning all from SunnyDrought-Stricken Cal.
Evidently the Powers That Be are about to declare a 3rd stage water emergency around here because Folsom Lake (one of our north state's larger reservoirs) is about at 5% capacity right now. I was out there a couple of days ago, the place looks like a moonscape. And no rain in sight for at least the next week. We have a High Pressure system in the Pacific that just won't MOVE! And that might explain the weather in the midwest and east, because all of the storms are being directed up through Canada, then curving down over the great Plains.
On another front, one of our four Catholic high schools in town is closing in June, the all-girl Loretto High School. Declining enrollment. The school has fallen from 600 to just a little under 300 students in two years. Too bad, too--it's been around for 50 years and has a really substantial college-prep reputation (98% of the students go on to a four-year University). But the economy has hit it hard--the tuition there is more than a lot of families can handle in these times. Luckily, the other 3 Catholic high schools are in good shape. I'll miss Loretto, they had a really FINE choir director there, and the past two years, we've combined our Jesuit Choirs with their girls for some really fine performances. It's going to leave quite a void for good private education in town.
On the Feline Front, Wiezl has moved in lock, stock, barrel and Remington's favorite easy chair. It's kind of entertaining to see a 19 pound Wegie being herded around the house by a little 7 pound furball. She stays clear of Spooky, though, after being the recipient of one of Spooky's famous 'roundhouse' punches after Wiezl went for the Chicken of the Sea tuna in Spooky's food-bowl. Ah, adjustment!
My buddy still hasn't found a Condo that isn't run by some 'Committee' right out of the National Socialist Party, so I may have Wiezl for a while.
I e-mailed Sunset out of curiosity about a shipping date for my Z-6. Haven't heard from them yet. Neither has Bruce. I sure hope that they got enough interest to PRODUCE the darn thing! But it's almost the end of January, and this is the month it was supposed to come out. A friend of mine asked me if I really NEEDED another 4-6-6-4, I directed him to my 'tag' line at the end of any of my posts. "ONE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY ARTICULATEDS!" He got the message, LOL!
Well, time to head to the kitchen table and work on yet ANOTHER Walther's Pullman that doesn't like my 34" minimum radius. Tight truck, or screw-heads catching on the car floor, or something. I know it's not the track, my track is PERFECT! Yah, now the REST of you tell one!

I woke up this morning to find a message on my machine from the "crazy lady" up the street. She is in her late 70s and is a complete sketch. Her sister an BIL live right across the street from me. He is the gentle an that gave me two huge Maple trees that he had cut down for firewood last summer (Some of you may remember from across the street in that other place). Anyway he just had a heart valve replaced a couple weeks ago (he is 85 I think) and had a pacemaker put in. Now is having some congestive heart failure and is back in the hospital. The lady up the street asked if I would clean out the driveway at her sister's house as she needs to get in there to help her sister and that her sister would pay me. I told her, "Yes I will! And no she won't!!!" "That's why we are called neighbors!" Anyway I waited untill I did both of my driveways and hers before poping in here for breakfast.
Zoe I'll have a tall stack of sourdough pancakes this morning and leave the jug of NY Maple Syrup right there on the table for me! Oh, don't forget the pot of dark roast java in a FGLK mug! Thanks!
We ended up with about about 10 inches of snow from the storm. The wind picked up last night (25 to 40 MPH) so it got blown around a bit too.
I was locked out of posting here for at least 4 hours last night like many of you. Judging by the lack of new posts during that time I assume most everyone else was too. I had no problems with any other site at all.

RYAN, Hang in there buddy, it is a tough road with those illnesses in the family. But stay healthy as they need you that much more right now. Our Prayers and blessings are with your family. When you get time, how about a few more menu items from the "California Zephyr", we all need to be spoiled at times. We have made some changes at work here and I will no longer have to work any Sundays. In fact one week-end I get Fri,Sat, Sun off and the next I get Sun, Mon, Tues off. So a great improvement. To do this I had to give up 14 hours a month. But well worth it, I think..
How about that California Tom ? He couldn't come up with any cougars for his layout so he adopts the neighbors cat. Now he has three felines prowling the Yuba Sub.

Not much new to report on the "Wobbly". I am still working on a control panel that is 52"x10" that will fit above the cabinet that holds my Control Masters and the layout on a 45 degree angle. This keeps it out of the aisleway as they are narrow enough as it is.
Has anyone heard from Red Horse lately ?, he seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. I loved hearing from him, he has such a great passion and creativity and he really came a long way in a short period of time in perfecting his skills.
Well I had better make it look like I work here or my week-ends might get longer yet. So I'll check back in later when I get home.

I’m glad you’re talkin about the oops messages last night. Got here nothing from last night went back 5 pages, nothing, no oops posts, nothing. Like a dream. I had trouble but only when I’d hit the back arrow. Like it was trying to find where I was. If I clicked it again it would go immediately to where it should be since I did click the arrow twice. Just the immediate page back was a prob. Other than that all was good. I don’t think ISP’s are the prob, nor browzers, nor posting sizes, nor pictures nor how wide your bands are. Because if I get any problems with this site, it happens indiscriminately. If I leave a page and come back it’s width may be different with no new posts. It may load a bit slower with no new posts. Don’t know nuttin bout compooters, but it just seems if these were the probs then they would be consistent with the situations blamed.

I've really been trying to get through this ordeal too, you know they say the health of your parents and grandparents will most likely dictate how your health will turn out, so I am struggling with coping with all this now too. Welcome to the Diner Jim and Larson too! But Jim, it's no waste of bandwidth at all....in fact I've met some really nice folks here and made some great friendships along the way. There is more to the Diner than meets the eye....might be a lot of chaff and chit chat to sort out, but there is a hidden silver lining here if you stick around long enough to get to know folks....

They are pre seasoned too. I’ll try those things but I would assume that shrimp would work well also. I know it wouldn’t taste the same but those crawdads have an extra taste to them that would effect the flavor of the dish. I’ll try it anyway. Then with the shrimpies later. I notice you choose Crystal and not Tabasco. Is there a reason. I personally prefer Crystal myself as I’m not that fond of Tabasco. I can’t really explain but it’s a taste thing. Your Dad is in my prayers.

Todd, just for you my man! Ask and....well... you know the rest... And yes, shrimp or any protein can be used in place of the crawfish tail meat. I prefer Crystal hot sauce because it has a milder heat factor and not as much vinegar taste, and it does not overpower the flavors of the main ingredient, but adds to the flavor profile. While Tabasco makes everything taste like, well Tabasco, and it masks the true flavor of the main ingredient. And thanks so much for the prayers also.
Jeff, we have a Kodak Easyshare 6330 that is about 8 years old and 3 megapixel, it still works great and even records movies too. They are a good point and shoot type camera.

I'll have a regular coffee and a blueberry muffin please. About 22F outside but sunny. We got about 6" of snow yesterday before it started drizzling rain on top of it. This morning everything is icy but passable though two of my crew have called in as they can't navigate out of their driveways so north of here is worse.
Unc - I've never had an issue with Walthers though i do the oredering online and always check to see if the item is in stock and for that matter usually order what's on special. The warehouse is massive and well laid out as I saw on a tour there last year but with the shear number of items carried and all the vendors to deal with I'm suprised more stuff isn't out of stock. Out of curiosity, what would a State of Maine potatoe car be doing all the way out in Cali on the F&A when you have lifetime supplies in Idaho and I think Porterville? Sunny this morning, with a chance for another ½ of snow this afternoon and evening, high 27.
Did get out with a yardstick yesterday n measured what snow we had already. Run from 91/2" to 111/2 in several spots, so I'm figuring bout 10 avg.

Good morning. It's just below freezing here at 31 and it's cloudy. The high is expected to be in the high 50's and it will be partly cloudy. Friday is coming into view and will soon be in torpedo range! Well I went camera shopping yesterday. I looked at the ones at Walgreen's but none were set up for demonstration so I went over to Wal-Mart. Try as I might I couldn't find the Kodak Easy-Share 713. The Kodak Easy-Share 813 was on display however so I tried it. The results were less than spectacular. It worked OK from a distance but had a lot of trouble with close-up shots, even with no zoom. By close-up I mean within a foot. I tried several others, some just didn't seem to balance well in my hands (no feeling there) and weren't easily held onto. Then I came across a Nikon Cool-Pix L18. I seem to remember somebody telling me they had great success with one of these. I tried it and found it extremely easy to use, easy to hold onto and balance and was essentially point and shoot. I tried several shots with it and was quite pleased. One shot was of the store shelf and was within six inches at full zoom. It was crisp and clear. The focus was so sharp I thought I might get cut. I checked the price. Not bad, just under $100. I looked for one on the shelf and wouldn't you know it, out of stock. Well all is not lost. Upon returning home I did an internet search for it. I found a lot of places that advertised it but most had a message that I really dislike. Out of stock / discontinued. After searching more sites than I care to count I finally located one and for $20 less and with free shipping. I checked the availability to be sure. Yep, it was there. I immediately ordered it and it should be here within a couple of weeks. Does this mean I'll stop using the old Olympus? Not on your life! I'll keep using it until it either shrivels up and dies or I can no longer get cards for it. There are a couple of cards on the way but there's no guarantee they'll work. At present I have one operational SM card (64MB) and I get error messages on it periodically.
