jeffrey-wimberly Checked into a new MAF sensor for my car today. Autozone wants $242 for it! On a cold day in a hot place! I'll get one from a scrap yard first. I can pick up 11 or 12 for that price. One of them would have to be good. Picked up a little something in Alexandria today along with a package of half section 18" radius curve tracks today. This came from a place called Great Planes Models Distributors Company.

Busy enough? I had a hard time following it, I wonder how you can follow it yourself!
Well, I'm just about ready to quit for the night, so may the Good LORD provide for all those in need. Probably won't get in tomorrow, so I'll see everyone on Sunday.

Evenin' all!
Man, what a day! I have been on the move ever since I got up this morning. First the vet visit with my son, his dog, and my Granddaughter. She was not happy when we walked into the place as she could see it was a Doctors office!!! She settled down after she realized that she wasn't the patient. The dog had to have a blood test be sure that it doesn't have heart worm. Test was negative, so all was well. After my son had taken the dog into the examination room, the door to the next room opened and it was a gentleman I have known for many years (father of one of my Scouts years ago). He gave me a half hearted wave and a head nod. Stopped at the desk and said something to the receptionist and went back into the room. few minutes later he came back out carrying an empty pet carrier followed by his wife carrying something wrapped in a blanket. She was crying....... They obviously had lost either a cat or a small dog. Felt very bad for them. No sooner got home from that and the lady who was picking up some of the Art and Poetry called to say she was on her way over. Hung up and the phone rang again. Old colleague of mine who volunteers with the Arts Council. The equipment they had at the library for a concert they were doing early this evening wasn't up the job and could they borrow some from me. Everybody shows up at the same time. Gave out the Artwork with instructions..... Unlocked the equipment trailer and started loading speakers and the amp rack into his van. No room for the Amps... Load the amps into my Yaris and drive across town to the library. Get back home and walk in the house and realize i didn't give them the speaker cables they would need. Phone rings, find cables and wait for him to come and pick up.
Gulp down small lunch. Of course now I am late bringing the rest of the Art and Poetry along with all the Honorable Mention certificates that I spent all day yesterday doing around to the schools. Managed to get to the two public elementary schools before they closed, but the parochial Schools had already closed for the weekend. Now I head out to the Mac Store near Victor (about 20 miles away) to get a little video camera that I wanted for my G5. On my way back, stopped in to scout out the set-up in the school auditorium where I will be recording tomorrow (All County music concert). Then head home, gas up Yaris, have supper on the run, and start to pack equipment. Get interrupted by a friend who just downloaded Skype and wants to try it out.... 40 minutes later I am back packing. And so the day has gone.
I did spend spend a bit of time just now reading through everyones posts. I am glad for those of you who are the road to recovery, and will pray for all those who are in need.
As soon as I finish my decafe, I have to finish getting everything ready for tomorrow.
Have a good night!

It's good that you support him. I know alchoholism can be a nasty little devil, and hard to shake. Maybe MRRing can be an outlet for him.
Well, I just got back from my meeting with my new friend. It went pretty well. He wants to have me go with him to his AA meetings most nights for a while. It's a big commitment, but I'm there for him if he's ready to go for it.
Jeff; I would do that with big ol' power tetrodes--forget I had thumb on shaft of screwdriver when I'd flick the cap off the top of that tube andBLAM!!--fzzztt!!---be sent into the corner in no time flat.

I plan a pour for morning. Maybe I will be inspired to photograph it wet.

Less than a year and a half for me! And we take Driver's Ed 1st quarter next year (sophomore year) so I'll be ready on my birthday. This year, we have exams on my birthday :(
Since this week was Catholic Schools Week, today was class spirit day. We wore our class colors (ours is orange, which isn't bad, but my only orange shirt is hideous, so I just wore my hockey jacket over it because its school colors, blue and white). So we had a Friday lab schedule, with a pep rally schedule. Just to make our lives harder. So we had 8, Double 4 (amazing), 1, 2, Lunch (I love A lunch, I usually have B, but I have C on Thursday), Double 6 (amazing), 7. Since I'm in band, the entire music department has to sing the national anthem at the pep rallies, so we did that. We had class competitions, which were fun to watch. Of course, we came in last, and seniors came in first- shocking, I know.
I'm off to possibly work on the layout now. Weekend's kinda shot because we have a game tomorrow, then I'm staying at my friends because hes having a superbowl party on Sunday.
And welcome to all the new guys. Grab a bite, talk, whatever. We're pretty chill around here.
Peace.

Yah hey dere, (From the frozen wasteland of Minnesota)
Jeffrey, I've almost done that before, except I noticed it beforehand. Not fun. You'd think after working on wiring for trains, you'd be a little more careful. Then again, it makes sense to get cocky and think you know what's going on from experience. Good reason to just figure out a schematic, and shut the power off to that switch.
Well, I'm not going to be home tomorrow, because the home speech team meet will consume my day. I'll let you all know how I did.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention, Hey there, Trainman Sam, ! Come in whenever you like.
Well, i've been having a lazy Friday afternoon and evening. Been watching all sorts of stuff.
Anyone remember Stargate Atlantis? Watched that on the sci-fi channel, lol.
Good Afternoon!
I'll have the Seafood Newburg Soup and sourdough bread and Coke Zoe.
Paul: I will have Mary Ann in my prayers.
Tom: Wish I could afford one of those Sunset Models.
Well, tomarrow I'm going on a layout tour with JRP. I'll get pics up after.

Hello there---We just got back from visiting the University of Western Ontario where my nephew wants to go. I'm kind of impressed with how much the place grew from my days there. The Community Center is waaayy bigger than when it was a shoebox that left a lot of people sort of haggling over a few square inches--
Between that and shopping for groceries for the weekend and running around trying to cram time in to see at least 2 clients I's be a sacked fellow----
PC-hopefully things will work out with friend--I had something like that once--the guy is now in China and emailing all kinds of Chinese railfanning stuff
Paul--we'll keep praying for her-
Tom--I do believe that it matters not a peep what weight they are--if they are going to sound like a herd of buffalo--they are going to sound like a herd of buffalo---my favorite? My sister's cat 'Lady' is a 20 lb furball who can come up from behind you-leap on to the back of the couch and go up to you and go MMEOWW!!! right into your ear and you didn't even feel the cat do anything else--- Mind. Same cat goes to bottom of staircase and will sit with her head straight up staring at you asking--when are you going to let me out into the hall? Then shooting up the stairs like a cannon shot into the kitchen--where the herd of Rhinoseri plays---
Chloe; I'll have a hamburger deluxe with all the fixin's and gravy on the fries with a coffee please
Better get back to the visitors---have a good'un----
inch53Haven't felt much like doing anything on the layout since Wed. my Doc appointment was disappointing. Can't get in till 2-23 to see the specialist, and trying to live about half sick from the pains meds has bout got me down. Doc did change those and I'll start them tonight, so guess I'll see how things for a few days.
Mike, I feel your pain.....figuratively of course. I've got my own pain that the docs gave me meds for. They take away the pain, but they make ya woosy and whatnot. Hopefully I'll be off mine soon. And I hope your new meds work out better for ya. (Guess we'd make quite a pair right now, huh?)
refill, please & thanks.
***Tom, that buffalo remark had me laughing. Our "Millie" (only indoor cat here) is a light weight too and sounds like a rock slide coming down the stairs. Add one of her springy toys and it's more like Mount Saint Helens erupting.
***Terry, great of you to volunteer. Breaks our hearts just to think of all the neglected & misstreated animals out there.
***Jeffrey, can you run your trains now with just a touch of your finger?
To all of you who are ill, including spouses & friends, sending healing thoughts your way. Seems to be a rough patch these days.
Wife picked up some tooth cement stuff to pack the huge hole until the dentist can see her. I think she should have got to his office and waited for an opening. Crossing my fingers it doesn't make her too ill over the weekend.
Picked up a new generator from the local Ace. They are horse people like ourselves and beat the big box stores price, so we're ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at us next week. Also got the FIL's little old generator running, but it is only good for running heat lamps in the IG (Italian Greyhoud) condo & the well house, not for powering the well pump which is 220. Will finish our storm prep Sunday...that way nothing will happen.
Not much else to report on.
Rob
Afternoon all, Zoe can I get some of those spareribs, an irish coffee and a piece of that peach pie please.
Welcome to the Diner SAM. Hope you enjoy your visits here.
PC,,,,,praying for the best for you and your new friend.

Afternoon Gang: Just a quick up date. Mary Ann is in the hospital again. The doctor thought she had pnuemonia but it turned out to be a blood clot in her lungs. She is getting blood thinners and the doc says she maybe going home Sunday. Anyway she's doing well but is getting real tired of the hospital and people coming in and pocking and proding all the time.
PC; I see that you and yours are having some problems. I hope that everything is all right soon.
I need to get on now.
My best to everyone and prayers to those needing.

Morning all from Sunny(again!)Cal.
Well, the official word is out--we're at 49% of our snowpack for the year and if nothing else moves in until Spring, we'll officially be in a 3rd stage Drought condition for the second year going. The only saving grace is that it's still really COLD in the Sierra, so it's at least preventing an early runoff. There's a rumor afoot that our Pacific Ocan High Pressure system might break up next week and open some kind of storm door, but I've become pretty immune to those predictions. So far, almost every Major Storm that's supposed to have hit us this year has piddled out the minute it hits the Coast.
Interesting news on the School Front: That girls school that is going to close in June has recieved some unexpected help from the Diocese--our Bishop has come out publicly and said that every effort will be made to keep it open. The school--Loretto--is not a Dioscesan high school, it's run by a private order--the Sisters of St. Mary--whose home base is in Chicago. Whether this means transferring the high school TO the Sacramento Diocese or not, is kind of up in the air, but at least it's a start.
PC: Prayers to you for both a complete recovery, and the help you're offering to a friend. After having read your thoughtful comments over the past years, I think that if ANYONE can help him, it'll be you, my friend. And the fact that he may be a fellow model railroader might just be the key to helping him toward recovery. I'm a firm believer in the fact that when God closes a door, it's only to open a window.
Sue: Wise decision to wait 48 hours between pours on that WS Water. I did that on Bullard's Bar, and it's lasted seven years so far with nary a problem. Let's see some photos of that creek as you progress, huh? Your work always inspires me.
Well, the longer I have Remington, the more I think he's 'channeling' my late and sorely missed Lowell. Little things he does--a look, a stance, a chirp--just little things that were kind of 'peculiar' to that little gray Maine Coon. Common 'cat' things, but also little variations that were Lowell's alone. Anyway, he's sure becoming a buddy. And it looks as if Wiezl's here to stay for an extended period, so there's no end of entertainment running around the house--often at full gallop! And how can a 7-pound furball sound like a herd of buffalo running up and down the hall. Whew!
Well, haven't heard from Sunset yet about the Z-6, but the ads are all over the MR magazines, so hopefully it will be SOON! (he said, salivating).
Nice day today, so I'll be in the garage tinkering.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.

PC..You never know when someone will be put into your life to help..You both are in my prayers...
You all have a good one...Jerry
Good morning, Chloe. Coffee and a cinnamon roll please.
I will wait until late morning to see if my WS Realistic water came in at my LHS. If so I guess I need an extra trip to town. I have 6 layers and still pouring. The stream bed is about 3 feet long so the extra thin pours are using a lot of material. I have been going a week between pours, but the latest pours seem to get hard quicker.
Later,
pcarrell/Phillip, thanks for the pie! and how could one miss the entire diner doing the "Wave" but instead of standing up they all fell down!!!
jeffrey-wimberlyI'm thinking it must have come loose from the side of the socket the other wire had come off of, so I test it not realizing that that the tip one finger is touching the metal part of the test probe. There was power there all right! Now I had a good reason to comb my hair as well as reopen the door to the hallway.
Don't feel bad! I think I could probably fill a thread just with the horror stories of DIY mishaps! My father and I joke that we are te reason they have the disclaimer "To avoid fire, shock, and death..." on everything!!! As both of us can attest, the only thing we've avoided is death, just barely!!!
Have a good one all!
God bless until we can break bread together once again!

I spent some of this morning doing some speed matching. I got 2 engines to match up to a ruberick I set up for engine speeds. (80 mph is top, 40 mph is mid, and they start moivng at speed step 1) So far I got a GP30 and GP9 set to it, both have QSI soun so it was a tad easier setting them up since I can call it up to tell me how fast it's going.
However, my next task is quite a daunting one. Getting 2 P2K SD45s (with DH165l0s), Atlas U30C (with a NCE-DASR), and an Athearn Genesis F45 with DCC sound* matched up. It'll probably be a F45, SD45, SD45[reversed], U30C [reveresed] consist (and be able to pull at least 365 cars on level track). I still need to get some SD40-2s, BN had over 827, and I have none....
* I'm aware about what people say about MRC decoders. In the event that I am not happy with the motor control, I'll put a Lenz in it, and disconnect the MRC from the motor. This way I can keep the existing sound/motor decoder as a sound-only decoder.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
I just got conformation from OfficeMax that my new Nikon Coolpix L18 camera was picked up by UPS yesterday and was last seen leaving Chicago. It should be here Monday.
Got a call from my father earlier this morning. He was having trouble with a wall socket, the no power kind of trouble. So I gather up my multimeter and a few tools and head down there. The socket in question is in line with a light switch. One of those setups where the home owner could come home at night, flip the switch and a lamp would come on. That type of thing. So first I check the breaker. It's fine. I check for power at the socket. Nothing. I test the switch for continuity. Positive, we have continuity. I removed the wall plate and pulled the plug out of the wall. Everything looked all right. Went and turned off the breaker. T tested the wires with the multimeter to be sure they were dead then I pulled on the wires where they connect to the socket. First one then the other. The first one held fast but the second one pulled loose. AH HA! I had it! I reattached the wire and made sure it was tight then went and turned the breaker on. I came back and tested the outlet. Nothing! I then tested the wires again. Nothing there either. By now I'm wondering what the heck is going on here. I take a closer look at the wall box and on close inspection I see a wire way in the back that's connected to nothing. I'm thinking it must have come loose from the side of the socket the other wire had come off of, so I test it not realizing that that the tip one finger is touching the metal part of the test probe. There was power there all right! Now I had a good reason to comb my hair as well as reopen the door to the hallway. So I turn the switch and the breaker and go back and rewire the socket. I turn the breaker back on. It stays set so there's no short. I go turn the wall switch on. No short. I test the socket. YES! We have power! I put everything back together, check the socket again to make sure I didn't knock something loose. It's working. So far that's been the most interesting part of my day.

Mornin' all!
Welcome Sam! C'mon in and have some coffee and a piece of pie. (Wow, did you see that? Everyone about fell over when they saw me sharing the pie! I'm kind of a pie hound around here.)
Interesting turn of events last night.......a few weeks back I met a guy through a friend of mine at church who was struggling with some health issues and an addiction to alcohol. My friend introduced us because she had trouble understanding this issue because she's never had that problem, and she knew I had in the past. So anyways, I've been talking with the guy here and there, trying to get to know him a bit, but the alcohol has done a lot of damage to his brain functions, and he's a very guarded person. Because of this, it's been very hard to get to know him at all. He still talks to me though because I'm about the only person left in his life that will talk to him. Everyone else has left him. Well, a couple of weeks ago he called me up and asked me to be his sponser for AA. Still though, it's tough talking to him. When you ask him a question or say something that he has to respond to, it takes him like 5 seconds to formulate his response and then say it. He's also still very guarded, probably because he's been hurt a lot by people leaving him. Well, last night we were talking on the phone and he started to open up a little. We're talking, and he mentions his sunroom, filled with a 14x18 foot O scale train layout. AT LAST! COMMON GROUND! The more we talked about it, the more he opened up. His answers also came quicker. So tonight we're going to meet for coffee at a local coffee shop. If you're the praying kind, please be in prayer about this meeting. It'd be great to get him back into life with a fresh start, and model trains may just be the ticket to getting there!
Also, an update on the nasty little friend I've been carrying around this last few days.........my leg seems to be improving. I'm using my pain pills less and less. The redness and swelling have gone down, and the area isn't so hot any more. With all the anti-biotics the docs are pumping me full of right now, I could probably snort the black plague and be fine!
Last but certainly not least, heartfelt prayers for all those in need.
So whats going on in your corner of the world?
Mornin' Everyone!
Zoe, I'll have what Ryan is having this morning and don't forget my Dark Roast Coffee in a FGLK Mug.
Gotta eat fast this morning as my son should be along very soon. I get to play with my granddaughter while Petey (the dog) is at the vets.
Be back later!
in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thank you.
Question: Has anyone here ever used "Super-Elevated Track" (Kato or other brand) and if so, how did the models run on it? Any tip-over accidents at slow speed?
Busy day ahead. Have a good one, Y'all.
