I forgot my tools today.  So no working on the railroad during lunch!

So do we have any pie today?  Maybe something piping hot like warm Apple Pie.

Afternoon everyone!

Didn't get a chance to post this morn ing as i had to be over at the church quite early (for me at least) for the celebration of Martin Luther King Day.  Here in Geneva the day starts off  with a memorial march from the Public Safety Building (police station) to City Hall and then up to the Methodist Church with prayers and speeches at both locations.  The local police lead and follow the parade along its route.  Then the annual MLK Service featuring the MLK Memorial Choir (Made up of people of all faiths and complexions).  Our main speaker this year was a lady who graduated from William Smith College in Geneva and is now both a minister and the Director of enrollment services for the City University of New York.  She was excellent!

Then..........

So do we have any pie today?

Do we have pie? Tell you what.  Come on down to the church and you will get: Fried Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Baked Ham, Colard Greens, Baked Beans, String Beans, Boiled potatoes, Candied Yams, Potato Salad, Rolls, Garlic Bread, Macaroni and Cheese, and for desert..... Sweet Potato Pie!  All you can eat!  And it is gooooooooooooooooooooodddddd!!!!!!  Fed close to 300 people (about half the people who attended all or part of the service (It's a long one)

I'm going to change out of my "Sunday Go To Meetin'" clothes and play around with some stuff in the layout room for the rst of the day.  Sure don't need to do any more eating today.

Good things just keep on happening! I've a second Kato RDC that I had in consist with the one in that video. Killed the consist, and lost access to the RDC.  That was ages ago. Took the thing to the LHS in Halifax. they have a DCC guru , and he did a "nothing the matter with it, put it away please" on it. (Peter Sellers / Sophia Loren fans may remember the reference)  He did say he had changed the address from 251 to 250. Brought it home, and it wouldn't work at all on that address, or any other I could think of, like 251, or 03.  So that meant another trip to the LHS to get it sorted.  We don't get to Halifax that often, and next Thusday is a medical trip. Talking about our route at lunch today and that I needed to go to the LHS; while exlpaining to Kris how addresses work for DCC locos, and how they are 4 digit or 2 digit, it suddenly came to me. What if the address wasn't 250, but 0250? I'd not thought of that before, I'd just been punching in 250 or 251 or 03.

So, after lunch I went upstairs...now I have 2 operational RDCs. Yeah!!

Speaking of videos, I've made a "Tour of the Maritime Trunk RR" for the Arts Society presentation (tomorrow, it was postponed and may be again!)  It's 8 minutes or so...

Good evening all, just checking in on things while I'm waiting for things to finish up in the oven and dryer.  I'll be heading to the Dr's tomorrow (nothing important, just a yearly physical), so I may or may not be able to get on here first thing in the morning, but I'll check in at some point.  Mom and dad forgot to bring my geep, so I guess I'll just have to wait until I'm there myself to get it and start working on it.  The birthday party went great for my daughter yesterday afternoon, everyone had a good time, and as I type this, I'm having to type it around my daughter's head (she's standing between my computer chair and the keyboard tray.  We may go do a little railfanning tonight before it gets too aweful dark and chilly.  See y'all later.

 derJohn, nice video.

The one thing though, N scale is 1:160, not 1:16 (1:16 is one inch=16 inches, not 1 inch=160 inches). Just thought I'd mention it. Great layout though, where'd you get all the modern vehicles from?

Afternoon all from COLDSNAP SunnyCal.  Wow, the temperature took a major nose-dive here in the Valley this morning and hasn't pulled out of it, yet.  And we're supposed to get some storms moving in here by Friday.  Which means I'll put my tank-tops and Bermudas back in the closet for a while, thank God!

Was heading to Truckee today, until I got a call from the church.  Music Minister who was going to play the MLK Mass came down with the flu.  Could I sub?  Mad dash to the church, madder dash gathering up the music, even madder dash doing a spot-on-sight-reading rehearsal with the Cantor and choir--WHEW!   Also shows how Out Of The Loop I am about certain songs--I didn't know that there were VERSES to "We Shall Overcome", for cryin' out loud! Blush   Oh well, it came off okay.  Heading up to Truckee tomorrow.  Unless it snows.

Found out what was hanging up my Walther's coach, there was a teeny-tiny burr on the brakeshoe casting on one side of the truck that was only hanging up on the skirting when the truck made a right-hand turn.  I'd originally thought of running the coach 'backward', but I really can't, since the coach is full of those neat Preiser passengers.  Anyhow, about five minutes at the kitchen table with a small file-- supervised by Spooky and Remington, of course--resulted in a coach that now runs very nicely, thank you.  Remington made like he was going to take off with what was suddenly HIS coach, Spooky whacked him.  They're SO much fun as Daddy's Little Helpers.

Anyway, got the coach problem fixed.  Ah, RTR--there AIN'T no such animal! Tongue

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Hello ...

Der John... I enjoyed the video. In our house, RDC means something other than Rail Diesel Car. It means Really Dumb Cat. I can think of many deeds by the feline companion here that earned such a title such as ........well...........oh, never mind.

Jerry ... You asked what I purchased at Chuck's Depot. I got a little scenry stuff, some trunouts, and another Walthers heavyweught sleeper.

Jim CG ... narrow Aisles, eh ............Nothing to do with all that food you ate in the diner?

Tom W. Speaking of Walthers heavyweight cars. ...I just ran my solarium observation for the first time. It derailed. Manufacturer did not allow enough clearance for the rear coupler box to clear a pivoting truck. I have 30 inch minimum curves, and there is no way the car would have handled a 24" curve as stated on the box. I trimmed the box, and it runs fine now.

Well, all I have to say is that people up here are way too wimpy, they complain about 30 degree weather (I'm in Chicagoland).  Then they say that they are really hardy and can stand real cold. (10 degrees)

It takes 5" to close school here.  I'd rather have that than closing school every time it snows here (twice a week)  We would have to go all year for that.  In WI and rarely here, they have 2 hour late starts if the roads our terrible but should clear off later.

BTW, Packers, I am in WI just about once a month, but have never been to Lambeau.  I'm working on it though.  (My great uncle has season tickets.)

Someone here asked for pictures, I'll have a couple tomorrow.  I'm done for the night, have to study for finals tomorrow.

Garry:

You, TOO?  I drooled over that Walthers Solarium for my "Royal Gorge" for about a week before I dashed over to Railroad Hobbies and grabbed it.  Same thing.  Loosened the truck, filed down the contact screws, finally realized it was the danged coupler box.  Like you, I trimmed the heck out of it, and like you, I have wide-radius curves (34" minimum).  Runs like a dream now, but at THAT price why did we have to do so much 'adjusting'?  Sigh

End of rant.  Glad yours runs well now.  They are really handsome cars!

Large slice of Rhubarb Pie with a cup of decaf, please & thanks.

***Der, is there a way to access your video without joining photobucket?

Wife wants a gopher hole layout, or at least one with  a few tunnels and perhaps a couple levels. Just keeps getting easier and easier, eh?MischiefLaugh Picked up these two bridges to incorporate into her grand scheme: Wish I could find some of these "ready built" trestles for N scale.

Finally removed the coffee table that the router was mounted to from the old workshop into the my dungeon. Man, that old router is easily 3 times louder than my table saw or any other tool down there. Spindle is shot and as old as it is, need to replace it soon. Hope I can get the last few sections of trim routed before it seizes up on me.

Saw a few sleet and then snow flakes tonight. 26F tonight with a high tomorrow of 32F. Topped off every trough and bucket on the farm ahead of time.

Hey ya'll.

Since I had today off, I managed to do a lot of MR related stuff. I painted the handrails on my Gp30s, fixed part of an atlass caboose, and de-weathered some of my rolling stock to re-weather it (looked awful). However when I de-weathered one of the cars, I took off the road number and cara data on accident. My excuse for now is to say some drunk tried to graffiti the car, but had green paint. (bad, I know)

With all this cold weather I'm hoping it snows. I'd probably be off from work and school if that happens.

Tom & Garry: I agree with ya'll that there isn't anything that's really RTR, never had anything that was good enough out of the box. (too light, needed decoder, paint, and kadees)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Ahhh, another busy CSX night tonight, this is train #5 we've had come through here in the past three hours (kinda funny how one night is busy'er n all crap, meanwhile other nights you might only hear two trains the whole night).  The wife fixed chicken and dumplins tonight so I'll just stop in for a slice of chocolate pie, if there is any, and a RBF.  Thanks all
