Afternoon all. Zoe, I'll take a new england clam chowder and a coffee please, thanks.
English exam wasn't as hard as I expected it to be. History was horrible. Period 6 World History (my class) is retarted and they were talking through the whole exam. Just to make it harder. But luckily our history teacher is really nice and usually just grades you on what you have done and he said that we could do an extra essay for extra credit. But anyway, it was REALLY REALLY REALLY HARD!!! (end of rant, sorry)
Last night, I started cutting up my CII and I have most of the wall removed. Just one tiny corner left, almost done. I'll probably finish the modifying by the end of the week because we get out at 11:15 everyday and we get Friday off. (No, we just about never have school.) Then I'll have to paint it, add a floor, benches, stairs, and signs.
Only 4 exams left! Yes, I know it's a lot, but 3 are already done.

Oh you're awake? So how much wood did you get for the stove? What's that? Oh, it is a bad muffler on the tractor. Oh yeh, I was born and raised on the farm. The stock has got ot get fed no matter what!
I have been sitting hear counting the money given at the offering yesterday. The ushers that counted the money had a $20 stuck in the middle of a stack of $5s and added up the total wrong..... But even so along with a few checks and some cash I had here already. I will be taking almost $1000 down to the bank to deposit in just a few minutes. Then I get to start soring the Art and Poetry to take back to the schools....
The good news for me is that some little details that I have been waiting almost 2 months for haver been shipped. I should get them in a couple days.
Nothing for me for lunch after that breakfast I consumed! I'll just have cup of Joe and a seat by the wood stove while I try to stay out of trouble..................

howmus Ryan, sorry to hear about your father. The only good thing may be that that type of cancer in older men tends to be very slow growing and they have made great progress in treatment. Most common I hear is "wait and see". That said you and your family will be in my prayers!
JimRCGMO Ryan, sorry to hear about your Dad - I will be praying for him (and your family), and hope they caught it plenty early on, so they can treat it ASAP. How close does he live to you?

twhite Ryan-- So sorry to hear about your father. How old is he? Reason I ask is that in many men, that type of cancer is very slow growing and in a great many cases, once diagnosed, is quite treatable. At any rate, my prayers for him. And you and your family. I'll add your father and you and your family to our Intentions at Mass this weekend.

Cederstrand ***Ryan, sending healing thoughts his way. Hopefully it will take a very long time to manifest in any noticable way. My dad was diagnosed with that many years ago and it still is not his worst health problem.
LSWrr Ryan, sorry to hear about your Dad but they have made great advances in treating prostate cancer, I wish him a speedy recovery (tell him to listen to the doctors and follow their instructions).
galaxy RYAN I gather your father has prostate cancer. I must have missed your posting on it. My father is now a 15 year survivor of prostate cancer. He had his removed through Cryo {sp?} surgery whereby they freeze out the cells and extract. So there IS hope. Since your father has prostate cancer, I hope you will be getting checked regularly by a urologist as well! Heredity can be a nasty thing. I have been getting checked since my father's cancer and even in my early 30's had benign elargement episodes. My father's father also had prostate cancer. We shall set up a prayer candle for your and yours.

ewl01 I did read about Ryan's Dad. My Dad, 85, was diagnosed in November with Pancreatic Cancer. He is a candidate for Chemo, but other things keep going wrong. First it was Jaundice, then a blood clot.. My Mom who is 80 has been going nuts balancing Medicare, supplimenatal insurance, the case workers, rehab centers, etc. Maybe someday they will treat the cancer. As has been said, it seems to grow slower with age. This is Dad's third round with cancer of some sort. He 's an ornery sob but he keeps on ticking..

galaxyWELL! Our pipes have now frozen!!! I hope this does not happen to others! I have not yet seen anyone complaining about that YET, Just frozen cars. We have a tub drain frozen and a hot water line {believe or not} in the kitchen frozen. We do live in a mobile home, but To the tune of $3,200.00 3 years ago we had all plumbing replaced and new heat tapes applied. They insulated everything real well, put in new heat tape everywhere. AND we were guaranteed at that time to never again have frozen pipes, regardless of how cold it got! They lied! Now they say they can't do anything until after 4pm, which is after hours overtime blah blah blah and there is no guarantee that the Pex piping won't freeze, just that if it does, it won't break when it freezes. WE insist on fighting them over it as it will get colder tonight. We do somewhere have a kerosene bumblebee heater for such things, but where it is and getting to the underside of the trailer is another matter. And with a guarantee of no more frozen pipes, we didnt think we needed it anymore. I certainly HOPE it does not happen to you others....especially those who live in Mobile homes....!!! More coffee please!!!!! UGH!

Good Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a root beer float, please (since i gather that all the pie is gone by now...). Thanks!
DerJohn, nice video - and I recall, as Flip said, when you were still getting that viaduct built. I'm sure the presentation at the club will be well-received. Oh, I was able to view the clip - but for some reason, when I click on the 'filmstrip' in this forum, it opens two tabs instead of the usual one. I think you were responding to an earlier post, maybe.
Oh, and Flip, we 'nawthuners' didn't want you Floridians to feel deprived of our lovely weather that we've been having. Just wait until CN Charlie, Barry and Johnboy's second wave of the icy stuff reaches you...
Tom, your furry twosome there sounds almost like as much fun as having kids again! Uh, maybe you and Garry should write Walthers (Quality Control) about their passenger cars... (hint, hint)
Uh, Garry - did I notice that you didn't answer whether you negotiated the aisles okay? But hey, I bet I got through those aisles at Chuck's as well as (or better than) our pie champs in the Diner could...
Oh, MadSinger - if you want to talk bad winter weather, you should talk with CN Charlie, Johnboy, Barry or another of our NOTB Diners about that. They have weather that is as far beyond yours in Chi-town, as yours is beyond our weather. And we're not talking about any lake effect snow up in Canada, either... But I hear you about driving - when I lived in Caruthersville (MO), where it's as flat as Kansas, they had a 1-2" snowfall. They didn't know what to do with driving on that (while I grew up in St. Louis, and considered it fun on days school was out and it snowed a bunch, to go find an empty parking lot and drive 'donuts' in the new snow. All relative on the weather, I guess.
Rob, nice trestles there! Did you have to hunt long on the 'bay to find those?
, Robby - even your buildings come weathered, eh? That one looks like Barney Rubble must've worked there...
Eric - awesome little bungalow there! Did you scratchbuild that, or who makes that? I want one!
Well, I'd best get going - it's quitting time and I'm still not caught up on the posts in here. More later, I guess...
Blessings and see ya tonight,

Good afternoon, all. Chloe, I will have a large RBF, please.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Well, we had some snow today. unfortunately, it was just flurries that didn't stick. We had a false fire alarm today though (some pipe burst or something), so we got to be outside in it. Was nice to see it, wish it had stuck though!!!

To be honest I'm quite surprised at everyones reaction. I was expecting most to say "not bad". After all, it is only a kit. The miners house that was posted that was scratch built, to me that's special. I only followed the directions. I built it at least 6 years ago and I don't remember who made it. I sometimes keep the manuals which would be in the attic, I'll have to look.

I just found this out;
My Mom's illness is due to a tumor found under her arm. The cancer has spread through the blood to her abdominal area. Life is great. I thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers.
Evening all, just wanted to pop in and say hey to everyone. Nothing much to report on my front, didn't really do anything today at all except for my physical. That came out okay, about to take my daughter to her dance class (first one). Looks like a busy day for me tomorrow, so no railroading stuff going to happen then either. I did get by the Bull Sheet last night and copy down all the trains that come through my area at any given time, I've only really got one question about them though. Where would one find an accurate time schedule and the "normal" road power used to move those trains, since I know what they're hauling, I just need to know what's tugging them. Anyway, I'll be back after her dance class to do some more digging around and see what else I can find about those trains.
Eric, so sorry about your mom. Hope she gets better.
Sawyer, Snow in SC? Wow. But I can beat you on the fire alarm. So after school, everyone hangs out in the cafeteria. On all the doors, there are alarms, so if someone opens them, they go off. Well, one of the coaches for whatever team didn't know this, so he opened the door. When it went off, for some reason he thought that he could turn it off by pulling the fire alarm!?!?!? So the fire alarm goes off, everyone goes outside, and we stand on the soccer field for an hour. No one knew what happened, so of course the fire trucks came. And there was a soccer game that day. So, the fire trucks pull in, followed by the other school. Who knows what they think of us now? And I'm still trying to figure out how you could possibly think that you could turn off the door alarm by pulling the fire alarm...
I finally got the last wall portion off my Comet II. Now all it needs is a paint job, a new floor, some stairs, benchs, etc. and it will be my new station.

It seems everyone is having pie lately, so a large slice of blueberry for me please Chloe and a coffee. May as well leave the whole pot.
John, I went back just now to view your film but it was all dark! The bulb in the projector must have melted the film. I can't view such things at work as the flash player isn't exactly the latest and I can't up-grade it as we are on a network.
We are having wonderful mild weather here the past few days. It hit -4C which would be about 25F so it is very spring-like. No need to plug in the car which is certainly a change and for those not familiar with "plug in the car", no I don't have an electric, it just means the block heater. Modern cars start ok but not that many years ago, no block heater, no start when its -30. The block heater just makes it easier on the engine, not to mention getting heat faster which in itself is an essential.
Did a really dumb thing last night. I got out an Athearn BB flat car kit which has about 4 parts to it but I thought I would weather the deck a bit. I usually use water based paint but decided the oil, weathered black would be better. All was going fine thinning it down but I had to leave it for a few minutes and then tried to wipe off a bit that didn't look right. I took off a little more than the black and got right down to the base plastic. I put the kit away in frustration. It was a 50' car anyway and I really wanted a 40'. I know I can fix it but now its just more work for a car I wasn't that keen on in the first place.
Think I'll go see what damage I can do to a Yardmaster kit. I have a few Blueprint ones but after last night, perhaps not.

He's luckier than most. On Monday, down on the Coast Line, a guy, for some reason decided to crash through the gates. As you may have guessed, he was hit by a NJT train (I think it was going about 60). He later died. People do some crazy things.
***Barry, it's a real good thing he didn't take you or anyone else out when he lost control. Yikes!
Thought I would share a pic of two of our "outdoor cats", enjoying a visit to my painting porch during this latest cold spell. That is leftover carpet padding I saved for some later projects. Anyway, these two cats have me pretty well trained at this point.

Well all, looks like I'm going to start buying up some engines "fairly" soon. I'm going to need CW44AC's, CW60AC's, SD50s, SD60s, ES44DC's and AC's, ES60DC's and AC's, and maybe a few SD70s and SD80s....Gee, wonder what I'm gonna do with all these engines........
Zoe, I'll have a RBF whilst I contemplate this massive amount of buying.
In reference to the NJT train accident at Sea Girt; The driver attempted to drive across the tracks as the gates came down (full gates with lights and bells WELL before the train approches). Unforunately the traffic was backed up to the tracks on the other side, leaving him stuck ON the tracks. At most crossings there are only 5 car lengths between the tracks and the previous, or following intersections. I live one block from the same NJT tracks about 5 miles from the above scene. Everyday people attempt to beat the train. In our case there is a station one block north of our intersection. Because of the train length our gates come down as people detrain at the station. My job constantly takes me past this intersection and all day long we observe people driving around the gates. Even though the southbound train is stopped it is foolish to run the gate. We have been lucky so far. The big problem here is that the 2 main roads run parallel to the tracks. On our side, where the yards used to be, the road runs right next to the tracks. The east side, 1/2 block frm the tracks. Traffic backs up real fast trying to cross the tracks. The New York & Long Branch has been here since 1875.....people ran the tracks then.. they run the tracks now.
New Haven I-5 Pakers#1: I just bought a PikeStuff Small Modern Enginehouse kit. From what I've seen on WPF, you've built some. Is there something I should be aware of??
Ah, the pikestuff kits. I've got a single stall one to build myself (note to self: don't paint something unless you're sure you wish for that to be the color ). Just make sure you have enough doors and windows to fill whatever holes you cut in the walls. Also, don't cut the height down for your walls in the enginehouse.
Also, they are a heck of a lot easier to put together than they look. just make sure that you do have the hobby knife, and a small paintbrush is perfect to apply glue. just make sure you use a paintbrush you don't care what happens to it.
Evening all from STILL SunnyCal: HOWEVER!!! The next four days are supposed to be rain. YEAH!
Got up to Truckee, today. Reason was that a buddy of mine had to take his mother to Susanville, which is about 4 hours north, but he finagled his sister to meet them halfway there (Truckee) so I went along. His mom is 87, looks like Barbara Stanwyck the old classic movie actress and is a major HOOT--sharp as a tack and wittier than all get-out. We arranged to meet his sister at this neat diner in Truckee, which was shipped out from New Jersey, about 15 years ago or so--one of those 'classic' diners you see in those classic movies--with cheeseburgers that taste as good as they smell and thick strawberry shakes that clog up the straws--THAT kind of diner. And it's right by the tracks--well, EVERYTHING in Truckee is right by the tracks. While we were waiting for his sister to arrive, six trains went by, including a--gasp! ON TIME WESTBOUND CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR! UP is FINALLY sending lots of stuff over Donner Pass just like the Good Old Days when SP ruled up there. Only thing that kind of put a downer on it was that it's January, and there's hardly any snow up there. This time of year we should have snow piled all over the place downtown, and the drifts were only about 3 feet high. And it was 47 degrees. Sorry, but that's a January HEAT WAVE up there in the Sierra. Not a good sign.
However, rumor is that this wet thingie coming in off of the Pacific is supposed to be both Wet and Cold, so it could help us a lot out here.
NS: Ahah, the Second Semester World History Exam, huh? Let's see, if I remember correctly, you should be somewhere around the Franco-Prussian War by now. Hey, man, that was EXCITING, LOL!
Rob: I'm trying to think who makes those 'almost' built N-scale trestles, I grabbed a couple last year for a tailing dump trestle on my HO scale Champion mine. If I remember correctly, I had to buy one package of bents and cross-braces and one package of decks, but they went together in about five minutes or so. Here's mine if it helps:
Like any decent tailings trestle, it just ENDS! Wish I could remember who puts it out--some company in Colorado, I think.
Blownout: Whoah, what a SCARE! Glad the guy was okay, though. And glad for him that you were there to help. You'd be amazed how many people out here just continue driving by when something like that happens. As I've always thought, you're a GOOD man!
CN: Just a thought next time you're 'planking' a flat-car. I do it with a shot of Dullcote and then after it's dry--about a day or so--give it a Q-tip of Bragdon Powder--probably the light Dust and light Ash colors. The stuff sticks like glue and looks pretty darned good. Give it a try, see what you think. I swear by their weathering powders.
Cedarstrand: Hey, now THERE'S a couple of neat cats. Funny thing, I've found that over time, Ferals will domesticate THEMSELVES. I've got a furry little guy who's been hanging around the house the last couple of days, really cute--grey and white tiger-stripe, and he likes coming over here in the morning. I'm going to see if he likes my place better than the neighbors--not going to try and entice him, you understand, not with Remington and Spooky holding Court in the house, LOL!--but just see if he feels comfortable around here. If so--well, I'll put some food out here and see. He looks healthy, so he just may be wandering and mooching at this point. Cats are funny little critters--they adopt YOU.
That's about it from Cal--clouds are on the horizon and moving in quick. Let's see what happens.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.

As far as snow goes, why I remember as a kid snow so deep it would cover the fences and temps so cold it would freeze the tops of the snow and I'd walk to school right over the top of the fences. I'd have to water the cows as I passed by because they couldn't move. And that's the truth.Yup
All I've got to say is..... 25F MILD and SPRINGLIKE!!! Holy ba joley I don't want to live there!
I've lived in this weather from below zero to 100degF and humidity out the ying yang all my life. It doesn't get any easier and I haven't gotten used to the cold. At 6' 2" and 190lbs, I'm not built for winter. Call me a wimp if you want, my longjohns go on when it gets cold and don't come off till it's warm. It doesn't stop me from doing things I want, but when you see me coming I look like the Pillsbury Doughboy dressed in Walls Blizzard Proof from head to toe.
