Whistling

Well, if you thought what I told you yesterday was cold,   wait till you hear this.

Last night at mid-night it was -40c with a wind chill of -53c.   Now that is really "frost on the Pumpkin"

Wasn't much better when I left for work this morning.

It is easing up now and tomorrow it will just be below freezing.  What a change in a day and a half.

Must be our California buddies sending some of their "Hot Air"

CN Charlie and those further east, there is help on the way, just be patient and keep your socks on.

Glad you are back home Jerry,  now lets get that "IS" up and running.  Say "Hi" to Sallie for us.

Prayers and blessings to all in need.  Especially  Ryan's  Dad..

Cape JimIt has been awhile since you gave us an update on your love life and the dating scene down there.

Did that encounter with that teller at the bank develope into something interesting ?????  Hope so !!!!!

If that is Vinnie cooking tonight I'll have that Siscillian Steak and Pasta with a chaser of cherry coke. and put it on Jeff's tab as he owes me one and seeing he is top dog on this page.  Thumbs UpYeah!!

I'll be in the window seat watching the local go through. Anyone care to join me ??

Anybody with some quarters, put some 50s-60s music on the Jute Box. HeadphonesLaugh Thanks.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a large ATSF mug of hot cocoa, please, to take some of the chill off. Thanks!

Ryan, sorry to hear about your Dad - I will be praying for him (and your family), and hope they caught it plenty early on, so they can treat it ASAP. How close does he live to you?

Sawyer, that concert sounds like you'll enjoy it - how far away is it?

Yeah!!, Barry - I'll take the blame on that LHS trip...Whistling Now, do you think your LHS owner will send me a commission? Smile,Wink, & Grin Uh huh, sure he will. That does sound like a good deal - if any LHS here did that and I found out, I'd be going there! If you used those Rapido 'pre-strung' poles, you might have Spring using them for a mini-cat-trampoline. Laugh

Johnboy - that's not frost on the pumpkin, the pumpkin is frozen solid to the core at that temp (Celsius or Fahrenheit, doesn't matter)!!Wow!!  Yeah, and everybody had better keep all of their socks, layers of shirts, parkas and longjohns on, too... As for a report on my love life, when there's nothing new to report, I don't report. Guess that answers your question, eh? Wink But I don't think that would fall under the "no news is good news" category, unfortunately. The bank teller is long-gone history, and I'm not even banking with that bank (for multiple other reasons). I have been with my credit union since early 2008, actually. Wish they had a few more options like a bank does, but I like getting that little bit of interest every quarter (which I haven't had a bank do in a long, lonnnnnggggg time...)

So Johnboy - what's shaking with the local out there tonight? Can you see the exhaust from the dynamic brake fans, as cold as it is outside?

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Ryan, sorry to hear about your dad. :(

NSJoe - congrats on the goal (basketball?), Thumbs Up and enjoy those easy tests while you have 'em.

Thanks! But it's actually hockey.

Band exam is tomorrow. Its the biggest joke of my life. It's almost impossible to get anything other than a 99 in that class. The exam is literally counting rythms... 1 2 3 4/1 2 + 3 4//         Just can't wait for Tuesday, english exam (barfs, mumbles about how much he hates teacher) and history, but our world history is amazingly cool and it's such an easy class.

Night all.

Joe

Jim; I bought a while ago, some 11/2" ABS piping so I could do up the silos on the mill project. Well,i just started to get the silly things cut. The scratchbuilding stuff will come in handy for the conveyor assemblies etc that need to be done. As for the boxcars I think I have a good start on the grain boxcar cut. I also found that those pre-wired things won't work for that area I'm trying to portray---in fact, some pix I have show some poles had a bit of a tilt to them, due to the position vis-a-vis irrigation/drainage channels and the like. We have on a road not too far away from me a string of poles over at a 80 degree angle---I don't see many people trying that on a layout---- 'Spring' would just bat them all over anyhow----that's why i just spike 'emWhistling

Ryan--

So sorry to hear about your father.  How old is he?  Reason I ask is that in many men, that type of cancer is very slow growing and in a great many cases, once diagnosed, is quite treatable.

At any rate, my prayers for him.  And you and your family.   I'll add your father and you and your family to our Intentions at Mass this weekend.

Good Evening All,

Welcome back Jerry - good to see you home.   A toasty 8F out just now down to 0 tonight again and a high tomorrow around 14. Gotta consider a trip to the beach at that point to escape the heat. Think a cup of hot chocolate with marshmellows and a slice of warm cherry pie would do me a treat.

Ryan - sorry to hear about your dad. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers.

Not much to report n the MRR front - did spend an evening at the museum Tues working on the O gage.  The house is dead stop as well just now. The chief building inspector toured the house and now wants a meet with all the involved parties. Should be interesting.

I agree with Terry, the WS scenic water really never hardened.Where does one find Envirotex? That sounds like a better choice.

That was a good slice of pie but it's been another long day - time to toodle off.  Catch y'all later, J.R.

Evening Gang: just dropping in for a quick glass of water. No caffeen untill after my stress test tomorrow. This is getting to be a yearly thing.

Not much got done today because of Mary Anns appointment and the weather. It's cold here, of course not as cold as up north. the low was about 26f and the high got to 37f. There was a slight breeze so it felt colder.

Ryan my thoughts are with your father. I hear that prostate cancer cancer is one of the more treatable types of cancer. I shure hope so.

I actually got in a nape today so I wouldn't loose my ROF status, it felt good.

Well I'm off to bed.

Good Night All

Made it back from Anacoco in one piece. Training meeting was uneventful. It was on a subject I'm fairly well versed on, incident command. I was the ONLY one there from the Sundown fire dept. There were 17 other fire fighters there from Rosepine, Anacoco, Sandy Creek and another station I didn't catch the name of. Two hours isn't bad for a class, many of them last for four to six hours.

Ryan - I'm sorry to hear about your dad.  Your thoughts and prayers are with me and mine.  I looked at the needed detail parts on my GP40-2, and thankfully, I don't really have all that much to buy.  Looks like I'm going to be getting the safety step set, the bell, the upper MU hose assembly (the big cable), and the front and rear ditch lights, along with a set of Kadee couplers (any recommendations on what # Kadee to use?)  Other than that, I don't really have a whole lot of detailing to do, other than paint and weathering once I get the worm assembly put back into the front truck (it kinda fell out on me and got lost a while back, so I haven't run the locomotive in forever (won't really run worth a flip without that assembly).  Thanks for the shot for Details West, I relaly do like their stuff.  Chloe, I'll have the biggest mug of hot chocolate that you can get me, with a shot or two of whipped cream on top.

Took the precaution of changing out the antifreeze in the car today. It hadn't been changed in a couple of years and the temp is supposed to be in the 20's next couple of nights. No sense in taking chances.

Antifreeze gets changed in EVERY vehicle I own every two years, no questions asked, (although three of my vehicles have Dex-Cool *5year/150,000mile stuff) I'm a mechanic and if I can keep my stuff gonig by being precautious and doing things early, then I will.

Good evening Diners: A very hot chocolate with whipped cream please before I head off to bed. (Seriously, Bamma, I clicked on the Reply in Paul's post, and when I posted this you'd ordered the same thing! Big Smile)

Ryan: Sorry to hear about your dad. He's in my prayers, and I've emailed you about sharing that further.

Jeff: sorry to hear about your uncle too, that's a hard disease. Prayers for him as well.Angel  You keep amazing with the detail you are able to put into those scenes (and the enjoyment it obviously gives you) thanks again for letting us in on it.

Happy to report two successes on the same loco. it's a 1995 vintage Atlas GP7 in which I had installed a TCS CN split decoder. I've had to remove the shell to refix a repair to the rear pilot. While I had the thing undressed, so to speak, I diassembled it and took out the two bearings next to the flywheels. I'd read where the bearings either side of the worm, plus the flywheel sliding bearing made a 2 fulcrum system that introduced noise, and taking out the mechanically redundant second bearing reduced noise. Wow! does it ever!  Second success is that TCS now make a drop in decoder for short Atlas diesels that would have needed the CN decoder. They will exchange my two unopened CNs I bought for a pair of GP35s straight across, no questions asked; and send me another for this GP7. I want to replace the original CN as the wires coming up over the decoder to run the lights obscure the rear light very easily, and make replacing the shell without shorting out the decoder a nightmare. With the Canadian $ down right now I can't justify the extra for Priority shipping, wish I could!  I also see that MRC have a drop in sound decoder for the N Kato P42...it's over $86 though, but a boy can dream...

Speaking of which, I'll say goodnight, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel

Exactly! Neither of the odometers on my car work anymore but I know it has over 300,000 miles on it and it's still going. I intend to keep it going as long as I can.

My Impala (2001 model) has 160,000 on it, my wife's Cobalt (2005) has 53,000 on it, the Alero (2003) has 127,000 on it, the Jeep (1997) has 170,000 on it, the truck (1976 Chevy) has 279,000 on it, and the van (1998 Ford E350) has 399,000 on it, and no coolant leaks, also no major cooling system failures.  Also looks like I've got top of the page, so order up ladies and gents, they're on me!

Impressive! I've had to replace the radiator on mine. It was a tough one to find too. Even though it's a Buick Century it was built for use by a law enforcement agency, so everything is heavy duty. The radiator is a triple core monster that has to keep a high performance turbo charged V6 cool, a lot of times in slow traffic in 95+ summer temps. You know what they say about cooking eggs on the sidewalk? You can do it here.

Good evening, Chloe.  I will have a RBF,  please.

Terry,  My WS Reaslistic water does take longer to set up, but I have been pouring it 1/8 " or less.  I often wait a week between layers though.  When I am done, I plan to put ripples on it with the water effects.  That should prevent scratches from showing.  I will let you know.

Jeff,  I sure like the interior of your shell station.  Great  detail.

It was lots of fun finding a transaxle for mine. It was made for one year for one type of car. I found a used one in Houston and it still cost $800. That was back in '01.

I hear that! I try to keep on top of the maintenance as much as possible. Even after all these years it has only one oil leak, a cracked seal on a transmission oil line. The amount lost is very small, maybe a falf pint every three or four months.

Large decaf coffee, please & thanks.

***Jeffrey, sure do like the detail work around your new auto shop.

***Ryan, sending healing thoughts his way. Hopefully it will take a very long time to manifest in any noticable way. My dad was diagnosed with that many years ago and it still is not his worst health problem.

***Terry, can't beat that price for a good wood stove.

Wife fell today trying to jog across an interesection near the not-so-LHS, when the light turned yellow on her half way. Scraped her knees a bit, but mostly her pride. Running back to help her up I just felt so bad for her. Anyway, she picked up a few items like the WS Fix-a-flat, LL used car lot, cops hand-cuffing badguys, and a pair of tractors.

Going to be around 10F tonight. Add to that the windchill and I'll be getting up early to go break the inevitable ice from the critters water buckets.

 Evening all!

I'm excited and happy! I'm done with my highschool application, I don't have any homework, and the 5th annual Honors Student concert ended two hours ago. There is also a trainshow this weekend... Good stuff.

The 5th annual Honors Student concert was the best so far that I've played in. (I've played in three of them) This year, I actually had a good drummer instead of a bad one as a partner. He's played for much longer than me, but we're just about the same level... Anyways, I got to do a drum solo (he did too) on one song, which my mom recorded. Even though it's a Jazz Band, we play rock songs...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQcuuCvlwv8

There's the youtube link for the song I played.

As for the trainshow, it's the 35th annual Pacific Science Center show, which runs all three days of the MLK weekend each year. I'll be operating with the club one of the days...

I can see Friday coming, can't you PC?

Mark :-)

Good morning all,

The thermometer on the porch claims it’s 4.8F outside!!!  It’s official; global warming is in abeyance today.

Ryan, sorry to hear about your Dad but they have made great advances in treating prostate cancer, I wish him a speedy recovery (tell him to listen to the doctors and follow their instructions).

Barry, http://www.berkshirejunction.com/ has wire for telephone poles that will stretch and not break the poles.

Sue, congratulations on the new bike!

Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular to go and a toasted hardroll please.

3 degrees out and the cold is to continue for a few more days. Shut the minimal water off at the house last evening and drained down the system as no one needs the bathroom with work stopped. Left the space heater on in the space beneath the floor so the trap won't freeze and we'll carry on from there.

Dropped the CFO off at the station this morning - she's off to her Lacrosse coaches convention in Baltimore - gets to ride the Acela as well . I was to go also but have too much going on here to take the time especially with the Amherst train show next weekend.

Mark - excellent job on the part of the whole band, but your chops are awesome. If you have the same oppourtunity through high school it'll serve you well. I ended up teaching myself and it just didn't work out as well as learning in a structured environment.

Lots to do again today so I'd best get to it. Catch y'all later,  J.R.
