Is it me or are we not getting as much participation on the WPF in the last couple than we've had before?

It's probably because this weekend most of New England just got hit with a huge ice storm - thousands of people are without electricity. I've been a refugee staying at a friend's house ever since our power went out around midnight on Friday. Haven't had a good night's sleep in nearly 4 days, not to mention having any time for hobbies. I expect there's a similar situation with many of us New England modelers here. They make up a good portion of the crowd here, which might count for the reduced posters here.

I've noticed that the WPF hasn't been much lately.  Not picture wise, those are great, but more along the lines of pages and/or people posting.

Lately its been 3 or 4 pages, where a few weeks ago it was 6 or more.

I guess people are busy, and don't have much time.

I was wondering it it's because the usual heavy contributors are still working on their next photo projects.

Woah, an Ice Storm!  I'm sure you are thinking that since I'm from Southern California I don't know what one is, well I most deffinately do.  I lived in Pheladephia for 2 years and on my first day there we were it with one while I was heading up the Penn Turn Pike.  Wow, what an experience!  Then being out when it was melting and the ice falling from the powerlines, was different.  I can say this: it sure is pretty to see all the trees iced over.  Talk about a winter wonderland.  Nothing that good happens here.  I actually do miss the snow like I had at school in Montana.

Here's another photo.  I know bad lighting

Jarrell, that mortar looks outstanding! What did you use to add it?

EDIT:

Uh, it was pretty beautiful, but I'm not sure I'd call it something good... 1.4 million people out of power, some won't get it back till next week, a state of emergency (in New England, imagine if something like this happened in CA where it never snows!Shock) called by the Governor, at least four deaths (one happened two towns over from me), millions of dollars in damage... I'm just glad the four trees that fell in our front yard didn't hit the house...

Hope it's not too late to join the fun....

I've been tied up with a lot of the seasons work this last week so haven't had much time for the layout.  Here are a couple projects I started to work on at the RIT show last weekend and just tonight got back to for a few minutes.

This old Overton Combine is now going to see duty as a "temporary" freight house (the freight house at this location burned down several years ago and was quickly replaced with this Overton Combine that was damaged in a wreck earlier that year.  It seems that temporary can last a long time on the SLOW.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)  It is only partially done as there will be a dock and steps added.  I also plan on detailing the interior as well.  Lighting has already been wired into the roof of the car.

The SLO&W is also getting a couple of new Boxcars (Accurail) that are partially decaled.  This car would have been finished at the show but I forgot to pack the "holder" to be able to do the ends of the car.

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

All the chatter on the Railwire about cab signals got me Jonesin' for some details... so I hacked up some Evergreen stock and made these...

This is Bob Bufkin's GP-30.  The box is a little crude, but it looks okay from 10,000 feet.  I also did one for my PC GP-30:

While I was rummaging around in the scrap box looking for the right dimension strip for the signal boxes, I stumbled across this...

I painted this a million years ago, but finally got around to putting some Rivarossi passenger trucks and MT couplers on it. It's an old Trix fluted coach of no fixed prototype. I painted it to match WM 1700, which I hope to do one day...

I guess people are busy, and don't have much time.

In that case, I'll go ahead and include an under-construction shot of a cement distribution facility that I'm scratchbuilding:

I painted the silos today, but never got around to photographing them.  I'll save those shots for next week.

I made a few attempts with pastels, and I think it's starting to come along better than weatherining with paint.

This is the Walthers 100-ton cement hopper kit I got at the MR clubs christmas dinner. I personally think this one came out great, I tried to make it look like it's a fairly new car thats been used a bit. Next time I have a kit though, I'll try to do it as I build it, so I can get the hard to reach areas.

This one is a Walthers 4-window wood caboose kit that I managed to get off my project bench. I think the weathering is so-so, and the grabs could stand to be painted yellow and/or white.

Okay, it's a little late, would have gotten pics on Sunday or Saturday had I not had to work so late.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
