I made a few attempts with pastels, and I think it's starting to come along better than weatherining with paint.
This is the Walthers 100-ton cement hopper kit I got at the MR clubs christmas dinner. I personally think this one came out great, I tried to make it look like it's a fairly new car thats been used a bit. Next time I have a kit though, I'll try to do it as I build it, so I can get the hard to reach areas.
This one is a Walthers 4-window wood caboose kit that I managed to get off my project bench. I think the weathering is so-so, and the grabs could stand to be painted yellow and/or white.
Okay, it's a little late, would have gotten pics on Sunday or Saturday had I not had to work so late.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
CNJ831, every time I see your layout I want to go railfannin' through it!
That's a great scene!

In that case, I'll go ahead and include an under-construction shot of a cement distribution facility that I'm scratchbuilding:
I painted the silos today, but never got around to photographing them. I'll save those shots for next week.

I've been tied up with a lot of the seasons work this last week so haven't had much time for the layout. Here are a couple projects I started to work on at the RIT show last weekend and just tonight got back to for a few minutes.
This old Overton Combine is now going to see duty as a "temporary" freight house (the freight house at this location burned down several years ago and was quickly replaced with this Overton Combine that was damaged in a wreck earlier that year. It seems that temporary can last a long time on the SLOW. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!) It is only partially done as there will be a dock and steps added. I also plan on detailing the interior as well. Lighting has already been wired into the roof of the car.
The SLO&W is also getting a couple of new Boxcars (Accurail) that are partially decaled. This car would have been finished at the show but I forgot to pack the "holder" to be able to do the ends of the car.
Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Some scenery I, working on
Some peoples has good pictures this week.

Jarrell, that mortar looks outstanding! What did you use to add it?
EDIT:
zgardner18Talk about a winter wonderland. Nothing that good happens here.

TrainManTy zgardner18 Is it me or are we not getting as much participation on the WPF in the last couple than we've had before? It's probably because this weekend most of New England just got hit with a huge ice storm - thousands of people are without electricity. I've been a refugee staying at a friend's house ever since our power went out around midnight on Friday. Haven't had a good night's sleep in nearly 4 days, not to mention having any time for hobbies. I expect there's a similar situation with many of us New England modelers here. They make up a good portion of the crowd here, which might count for the reduced posters here.

Woah, an Ice Storm! I'm sure you are thinking that since I'm from Southern California I don't know what one is, well I most deffinately do. I lived in Pheladephia for 2 years and on my first day there we were it with one while I was heading up the Penn Turn Pike. Wow, what an experience! Then being out when it was melting and the ice falling from the powerlines, was different. I can say this: it sure is pretty to see all the trees iced over. Talk about a winter wonderland. Nothing that good happens here. I actually do miss the snow like I had at school in Montana.
Here's another photo. I know bad lighting

I've finished my Walther's sand house..still have to do the holding bin.
Probably everyone Christmas shopping, putting up decorations, party's etc.
Robby P.I've noticed that the WPF hasn't been much lately. Not picture wise, those are great, but more along the lines of pages and/or people posting. Lately its been 3 or 4 pages, where a few weeks ago it was 6 or more. I guess people are busy, and don't have much time.

I was wondering it it's because the usual heavy contributors are still working on their next photo projects.

Here is a shot of one of the F&C Dunmore hoppers that I posted earlier
Definitely not even near up to there with you guys, but I decided to give it a whirl anyway. Be gentle, this is the first picture I’ve ever posted, thanks to the post by jasperofzeal. In fact it’s the first time I ever even put a picture on my computer from the camera.
Layout is definitely a work in progress not done with anything yet but so far this some of what I have.

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk.
BRVRR The new elevator (Walther's Farmers COOP) and the new siding, in place. I think. I wanted to run the siding a little differently so I would have more usable space along the roadway. I have a large grain bin that I am thinking of adding to the scene, so this may not be the final arrangement. Keep up the good work guys. You are always inspiring.

Yes I think the large grain bin will look great with your new elevator! I also choose this same elevator for my town of Hawk Point on my new layout.

Another bunch of great pictures of some really nice work. I look forward to WPF every week.
I took this one just minutes ago. It's a Huff N Puff Hart gondola craftsman kit. I'm just slipping the brake wheel into place. I'll be painting it tomorrow. If I don't screw it up, I'll post more pictures:
Phil, I'm not a rocket scientist; they are my students.
Last week I added a photo of my MRL P2K SD45 that I was working on, well I still haven't finished it but instead this weekend so far I decited to detail one of my two Athearn RTR MRL GP35s. I added the front pilot details and windshield wipers.
NOTE: I HATE INSTALLING WINDSHIELD WIPERS! I KID YOU NOT, THESE ONES TOOK ME OVER AN HOUR TO INSTALL!!
Anyway, here is two photos of the two engines side by side for now. Remember they still need some airbrush weathering on the lower frames.
P.S. I hate the color Athearn puts on these Geep handrails-- It's purple!
Great stuff as usual guys. I always find something here to help with my modeling.
I have been working on replacing the grain elevator (Walther's ADM) on the Black River Valley Railroad. I have always felt that it was too big for the layout.
This is the Black River Valley COOP grain elevator as it is/was on the layout.
Here is the site after removal of the old elevator and the siding. Still some work to do!
Remember its your railroad
