1) anyone know what the Login timer is set for, It seems I have to login everytime I come here.(yes I have cookie enabled)

To add to what folks have already said, next to where you sign in, there is a box you can check that says "Remember Me".  Make sure thats checked.

3) Are the moderator labled such? or are the Undercover members?

Bergie is the main man, but there are a few more that have limited powers that patrol the forums too.  You can see if one of them is online if you go to the main page and look at the list of who's on the forum at that time.  Mods show up in red printing.

1) anyone know what the Login timer is set for, It seems I have to login everytime I come here.(yes I have cookie enabled)

2) more of a suggestion, There is no welcome room for the newbies. I think that would be a great acess. I have my own board (non train related) and when we have a new member we post a welcome post for them there.

 3) Are the moderator labled such? or are the Undercover members?

1) Somewhere one of your settings is set to clear your info when you close your browser or you're logging off of the forum when you leave. I stay logged in 24/7 so all I have to do is click on the forum entry in my bookmarks and I'm on instantly without having to log in.

2) I've been here since 2004 and have never seen a 'Welcome' thread. If there were one it would quickly become buried under many pages as the main page has a very high turnover.

3) There is one paid moderator, period. He has a big job to do plus his regular job so many of the members do what they can to help him. Among them are several volunteer moderators whom I will not name. If members see something amiss or someone is causing trouble it's reported to the moderators through the use of the 'Report Abuse' button in each post.

Good Morning Everyone, I assume the Coffee is flowing freely this morning (Lord knows I need it)

Of course!  One thing we never run out of around here is coffee!!!!! I'll let some others answer your other questions except to say that thee moderator is Bergie, aka: Erik Bergstrom.  There are a few other "volunteers" that have the power to lock threads and such if they get to be not within' the rules......

Mornin' everyone!

Flo, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal and a pot of Dark Roast coffee.  Oh and bring a FGLK Mug to go along with that!

I am waiting for a package to arrive in the mail so I can complete the dock at the freight station at Hopewell Junction.  I have a pile of stuff ordered at the LHS that hasn't arrived as well, so here I sit and wait to get some details done that I want in place before I apply for the NMRA AP Scenery Certificate.  I have several e-mails that have to get out this morning and some other work to do before the MLK Meeting tonight.

I best get doing some w**k.  See you later!

Off topic a bit since I'm a newbie around this plce I have a few questions about the boards themselves.

1) anyone know what the Login timer is set for, It seems I have to login everytime I come here.(yes I have cookie enabled)

The Members have been treating me great so far, I'm learning a lot and it's helping me greatly "BEFORE" I go spending me money.

So.. a KUDO's to all of you helping Thumbs Up

Thanks

Good morning all,

Today: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 32. West wind between 10 and 15 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 20. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming south.

Well this weekend I photographed and almost completed my step by step instructions on building the REA building and cargo dock.  I also installed the Super Chief (r) under the layout; however I still need to hook the bus to the booster.  I also did a field day  (massive cleaning) of the train room.

I put a bid on a replacement pilot truck for one of my Mikado’s hopefully this will be the first step in re-building my locomotive pool. This will give me 3 Mikado and 3 Pacific cast metal Mantua 1970-1980 locomotives for the LS&W.

Good morning.

It's 50 and there's a light fog out here by the lake. The high today will be 50 and there's a good chance of rain.

Didn't do much yesterday. Watched some movies (only have a couple thousand) and checked the wiring of my control panel in an attempt to find a short that's preventing one of my turnouts from operating. Fortunately it's not a critical turnout. The next step will be to go under the layout and search for the short. I'll have to start at the turnout and work back toward the panel. The odds-on bet is that when the control panel was moved to make room for the new heater a couple of wires got pulled enough to expose and cross them. That remains to be seen.

Good evening to all, still cold and snowy here. And to make matters worse, now the heating system has failed. First, the zone controller. It is not sending 24Vac to the Circulator, so there is no hot water in the registers in any zone. Well, I jumpered the failed part of the system and thought I was out of the woods, but alas, the circulators was still not getting 24Vac. So a little more TS resulted in a failure in the Honeywell AquaStat. It appears that the relay or the transformer has also failed. So, used to Xr contact and spliced in a single pole switch to allow the circulator to get 24Vac whenever the furnace is up to temp. Repair service is due tomorrow afternoon, lets see now, $210 for a 4 zone controller, $76 for an aquastat, and hopefully the service contract will cover the labor...not holding my breath on that one.

I did manage to get into the new train room and assembled more benchwork.

***Paul, that's great news. Any idea where it had been hiding?

***Der, actually I think they did a good job on the "framing", but not much else. Here is a pic of that pipe I uncovered. Although I since replaced and glued new connections, may do it over one more time, first digging up more of the pipe so it can be flexed into the fittings better. Can't help it, I'm a perfectionist:

Evening Gang:

Good news tonight. We found the missing kitten. I was heading down the road to get hay and there it was in the middle of the road. It saw me coming and headed into the bamboo next to the road. I got down from the tractor and called to it and it came out mewing up a storm. We don’t know where it was, just happy to have it back.

Not much else going on. The weather is cold here today, just 29 at 7am. Tonight it is supposed to have freezing rain until sometime tomorrow. Our daughters in laws are going home to England Wednesday so we are going to try and take them out tomorrow for some last minute sight seeing. That depends on the weather.

Well it’s late and I have a headache.

Good Night All

Evening all.

It's 32* and snowing... again... I was altar serving at the 5:30 mass at church, and it was clear outside. I come outside at 6:30, there's 3" of fluff everywhere. Now there's about 5", and I'm assuming that winter break will be a little bit longer.

Oh, and chloe, I'll have the steakburger with onion rings on it, and a coke. Sounds like a good late dinner.

Burgah with friez

On the trains front, I have started building my mountain. I have a full cardboard tunnel built up, and have started weaving cardboard strips across. Eventually I'll get some plaster cloth going up there and then I'll have a ball making the scenery... It's been a fun break, I must say.

I'm also enjoying my new floor tom on the drum set... It makes playing (Improvising, rather) "Moby Dick" by Led Zeppelin a lot more enjoyable, and fun. It adds another layer of sound, and when doing triplets across the toms I have more options. Now I just need a big 22" ride...

I hope everyone had a great 2008 and will have a great 2009.

Thanks for the welcomes, folks.  That photo of a nice eggy-benny had me drooling.

I used to treat myself to the version of it they served at a Vancouver, B.C. hotel called the Bayshore.  It was SO good, that whenever the QUEEN was in town, even when not staying at that hotel, she'd have someone run over a helping of it, to her.

The hollandaise sauce was quite special, had stiff little peaks on it, like you see on the really good lemon meringue pies.  And it was low cal, too (about 65,000 per serving).

As I said, I'd allow myself this rich treat, whenever I pulled off a big sale.  I got both rich AND fat, in the process, however.

I shoulda hung out a carrot of being able to buy myself some sort of model railroad item, whenever I done good...and still be wearing 30 waist pants.

A MODELLING comment here: some of you have no doubt seen photos of stuff I've done, on this site, the latest being to dirty up those low cost vehicles I found at Walmart for a buck apiece.

Here's a slap-in-the-head lesson I've learned, this last while:  its a REAL good idea to take an extreme close-up shot of whatever you make for your layout (or just collection, if your layout is THE PURELY MENTAL & WESTERN RAILWAY, like mine)

What it may reveal to you is an overly done weathering job, or some crooked walls on a structure, or way out of scale ballast...things your naked eye just doesn't (wanna?) see.

Of course, I'm viewing the photos on a 26 inch monitor, so anything at all out of whack shows up with sirens screaming, and bells ringing.

Better YOU notice the problem and correct it, before some snarky visitor jumps on the opportunity to point it out to you.

I'll have a slice of apple pie with a piece of cheese on top and a cup of coffee please.

Der, that reminds me of a I guy my dad used to know. This fella wore a patch over his left eye, because as he told it "A piece of track I was a cuttin jumpt right up and caught me in muh peeper!" I met him when I was 8 years old, and from then on anytime I was to cut anything I made sure I wore eye protection. I still do to this day.

Well I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays as much as I did. It's back to work for me tomorrow. I got lucky only haveing to stand one duty day during the entire stand down period. Some guys had to stand two. Anyhow, have a wonderful Monday.

Eric, Sign - Welcome  Did they stick you with TOP on your first go? (I haven't read anything past page 165, so don't know exactly when you came inBig Smile

Rob: Is there anything those contractors actually did right? You've had the worst time getting the house put back to livable. Banged Head

I just finished writing to Dick, and I'll save myself some time by using most of what I said to him, here. We had the grandchildren visit, and that cut into my track cleaning and general maintenance project. I had got about 2/3rd of the layout cleaned, and was starting on a turnout replacement when the grandkids came.  After many delays due to the boys sleeping in the train room; I was able to complete today a somewhat complicated replacement of a straight turnout with a curved one. That includes re-ballasting, which was further than I thought I'd get. One of my locos that always de-railed on the straight turnout continues to do so on the curved one, but other locos are quite happy, so I’ve got some investigating of that odd loco to do.

Then I tackled a second turnout replacement.  The lead from the main to my container port ended in a #5 (Technically a Peco short) turnout. It really needed to be less sharp for good operation.  So I also went ahead with this re-placement.  I’ve put in a Peco Medium Radius.  Everything went in a text book fashion, even down to re-aligning the lead track to account for the longer turnout, and re-ballasting. The new piece of rail had to be cut.  One of the two cut off ends flew - who knows where!  Found it later about 10 feet away.

That's above the main leading up to my upper reverse loop.

Fixed the surrounding scenery as well, re-located drainage ditch, etc. My container cars purr through the new turnout like they never did with the old one. All the glue has to dry, but I’m getting to think that Model Railroading may be Fun again!

Early start tomorrow for blood tests and Dr. appointment (Prescription renewal)

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for al in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel

Pecan pie, please.

After cleaning the new tiles (little room next to train room) I notice the shower, commode & sink were not draining properly. Going on instinct, I dug up the drain pipe outside the house and sure enough, it wasn't connected...or more accurately "half connected".Banged Head Drain pipe had slipped out of the angled pipe fitting (was obviously never glued) so only had half drain flow. Gurrrrr! Ran to HD and picked up a couple fittings and repaired it. Makes me wonder if I should dig up the entire line all the way to the septic tank incase there are other bad spots?Angry

Put up a couple cabinets for the wife in the future pantry & canning area. I'll install a utility sink in there sometime this week. Still overwhelmed by all the little projects eating up my time. Oh well.

Long day...going to go veg infront of TV awhile. Cowboy Rob

Hey Eric . Sign - WelcomeYup, you’ve come to the right place. Probably more is learned here than anywhere on the internet. Just be careful of the kitties that are brought in . Hey Unkie Rog, Ew and germanium- ( I’m gonna have to read this whole thing before making a reply) Welcome to you too (and anyone I may have missed).Sign - Welcome I had the same impression for a while myself Unca, ‘til I stumbled in and they welcomed me and then fed me. They are a great bunch of guys (and gal) here but be fore warned. They eat a LOT. DinnerBelly up guys to some Tick dip before Eric eats it all or Ryan starts charging for it.Smile,Wink, & Grin

OK trains stuff.. The new Texas and Pacific, (resurrected after a few rich oil tycoons got together and thought it would be neat to own a railroad, bought themselves a “disposable” railway between somewhere and somewhere else from the UP and a GP-40 from the Santa Fe, some box cars and a ham sandwich), will be up and running as soon as a little more track has been laid. Yeah!!The owners are looking for a B32-8WH for their main power, because they like the way they look (rich guys hrumph) and only have 4 wheels per truck so they know it will make it around that one curve with no problems. After they find out what the "H" stands for. and use the Geep for short runs or backup. They will make a little off Amtrak as the mainline is an Amtrak route though not sure how long it will last. Not sure if they will resurrect the old paint or not. Depends on if their color ignorant painter can get the colors right or not. Can’t fire him though, he’s the brother of their favorite bartender and she looks… well… let’s just say they won’t fire him.Whistling They have plans to acquire more motive power as needed but now they just talk, eat Tex-Mex and smoke big cigars.
