Afternoon all:
Well, it's cloudy and cold out here in SunnyCal, there is a MAJOR snowstorm predicted for the Sierra, starting tomorrow and lasting for about a week. According to our disappointed weatherpersons out here in SacTomato, we can stop counting snowfall in inches by Monday and start counting it by FEET by Tuesday through Friday. One of the 'weatherpersons' on KCRA said with a sigh, "Our mild weather is about to change." MILD? We've been socked in with cold FOG for the last three weeks. WHAT mild, LOL? Anyway, rain due here in the Valley by tomorrow and then rain, rain, blessed rain for about a week. It's about time! As a friend of mine said, "Governor Palin's sending this one in from Alaska." Hey, whatever works!
Garry: That 10-wheeler--is that a BEAUTIFUL loco, or what? Did you keep it when you changed over to Burlington? If not, where is it, I WANT it!
Robby: Speaking of cats--and you know I will, LOL!--that's one beautiful orange tabby. Does he help you unwrap presents before Christmas like ALL cats do? It's in their Contracts, you know, LOL! Section two, paragraph eight. Spooky keeps pointing this out to me every First of December.
Blownout: Speaking FURTHER of cats, I think that Spring is e-mailing Remington with ideas and instructions when the rest of us are asleep. My formerly shy 18-pound 'newbie' has suddenly become the Maine Coon version of a circus trapeze artist, the only thing he hasn't done in the past four days is shoot himself out of a cannon. I don't know what happened, but when he got comfortable around here, he just decided to use most of the house as his own personal gymnasium or something. I am never going to give him catnip again. EVER! Even Spooky just sits there and blinks while he bounces around.
Well, gang, if you remember, I was having trouble with my #3 and #4 blocks, and I thought I'd cured it. Seems I haven't, because no matter what I do, EVERY loco I've run lately just starts stuttering when they cross the bridges over Bullards' Bar and enter the San Juan Ridge tunnel on the upgrade to Malakoff Diggings. I even combined the two blocks, but I'm still having one devil of a time on the curve and grade. I think I'm going to have to tear out the feeders (yuck!) and replace them with heavier wire. I've checked the track solder and I sure can't find any 'cold' joints. The rest of the layout is doing fine, but that one section is just giving me FITS! I sure hope I don't have to tear the track out and re-lay it completely, because that means tearing out the tunnel and having to re-do all the scenery there. And I really hate going under the layout to re-do the wiring--I just ain't that young anymore, LOL! But it looks like I'm going to have to do something. I posted a photo of one of my Yellowstones pulling a freight over the Malakoff Diggings bridge in this weeks WPF (not that great a photo, BTW), but even THAT big Hunker was stuttering like crazy trying to make the journey. I've got a horrible feeling that it's Major Repair Time on the old Yuba River Sub. But like I said, the rest of it runs just fine.
Dang, I HATE that! Sometimes I think this hobby is a lot like smoking a pipe--you spend far more time fiddling with the equipment than you ever do using it. Oh well--it's not like I don't have time on my hands, these days.
Anyway, that's my B###hing for now.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.

No I can say he doesn't help. He rather dive bomb into the tree, than help open presents. He is 1 of 3 cats. Plus we have 2 dogs. So yeah, we have a zoo.
By the way, the cats name is Hannibal. My wife says from the A-Team, I say from the move "Hannibal". He is also about 23lbs. He was a stray my wife found about 4 years ago. He was so small, and we didn't know he would be that BIG.
Weather wise, still snowing some outside. So we have about 3-4 inchs of snow as of right now.
Well I guess I will try to find something on tv.
Everybody stay warm.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Hey, I see I just bought dinner. Eat up, everyone, I'm having Rouladen, so the rest of it's on me. Oh, Flo--it's a KOSHER dill pickle in the middle of the rolled roast, not that Gherkin you stuffed in there the last time, thinking I wouldn't know the difference, LOL! C'mon, girl, I"m AUSTRIAN. We know the difference!
Snowfall in this area fram the last storm was very, very light but Amite (A-meet), which is not far from New Orleans, got 8 inches of the stuff. WOW!

I see this is the second time they have filed bankruptcy in the past four years, I doubt the court will allow them to continue much longer. All of their model trains are 10% to 63% off right now and most orders include free shipping.

Tall eggnog, please & thanks.
Wife bought a half dozen MP built-up structures tonight for her HO layout. (told you she was impatient) I do hope she realizes her layout, much like Rome, will not be built in a day. She has also decided the 15 year old couch here in the studio should move down into the train room, so that company will have a place to sit and watch trains with her.
Hope everyone is doing well this evening and all the kitties are behaving themselves.

Rob; You might find yourself having to really squeeze into a smaller space?
Jeff; Amite with 8"? There is a place that closed up for sure----sheeesh.
'Spring' is back up in the tree---watching--no---planning the next heist.
Oh, the temperature now at our place is -13 C and we did get 4" of the stuff---just enough to hide the ice. Oh joy...

Good Evening Diners!
I had prepared a post with a nice birthday wish for Tom Thursday night but it suddenly went poof! Disappeared and then I was advised by Microsoft that an up-date was running. They conveniently shut you down when they do one.
Anyway, a belated Happy Birthday Tom!!! Sorry you missed that Mountain. Not sure what that particular version looks like but I generally find Mountain class locos amoung some of the most attractive. I especially liked CN's U-1-d and e. By the way a Canadian distributor has an NP Z5 for sale and judging by the photos that is a real monster! I think it was built by Precision Scale.
Seems like the weather has been acting up all over what with Terry's snow in Houston. We are getting cold and snow. It got down to -30C last night but it has warmed up to 18F right now. It won't last though as the wind chill is forecast for -37C tomorrow and -42C tomorrow night. In case you weren't aware at -40 both Celcius and Farenheit temperatures are the same. Did I mention it's a dry cold?
Well it's getting late and I have to take Pippa out so hopefully she won't get me up in the night. Last night is was twice and the first time, at 1:30, I knew I was in trouble as she had a very long drink. I have to go outside in the yard with her otherwise she'll stay out for a half hour and I lose too much sleep. Mind you -30C is rather bracing and does tend to shake out the cobwebs.
Talk to you soon,
CN Charlie
Good evening...
twhite Garry: That 10-wheeler--is that a BEAUTIFUL loco, or what? Did you keep it when you changed over to Burlington? If not, where is it, I WANT it!
Tom, I took the photos on my layout here this morning for Lee to see. Yes, I think that is one of the best looking 10-wheelers. It is one of many models I retained from my 1900 era layout. I also have buildings and structures I made for that layout from kits by Campbell and FSM. I also have some scratch built structures for that layout.
Unfortunately, I moved and tore that layout down. Repeated moves after that prevented any layout. I made more 1900 era models for the next layout. But for variety, and with no layout I made some 1950 CB&Q models depicting trains I saw and rode in my youth. When we moved to KY, I began the CB&Q layout Maybe someday, I'll go back to the 1900 era. My old layout was a bit on the whimsical side. It had three stations named "Hither", "Thither", and "Yon"..... In my lifetime, I've moved 18 times and resided in 8 states. A little plug for western KY, it's the friendliest and most peaceful place of all I've been to.
My present layout is being built in sections. That way, the layout could be moved if needed in the future. For now, I'm doing the streamlined passenger trains. We rode so many of those when I was young. I miss the Zephyrs, Chiefs, etc..... .

Tom; I am thinking that as Remi got more comfortable in your home he is feeling much more secure...hence all the "pikulousness". When we first got 'Spring'--about 3 months after Miximax passed away(19 yrs)-- it took about two days for this --at the time two yr. old--fellow to start leaping all over the house/head butting me and Audrey all the while...hence the name;Spring.
I'm going off to get some sleep...g'night all...

How could we have done that?
I just caught that Happy Birthday LEE !!!!!!!
I read that posting too; ah nuts...
Thanks for the birthday wishes (I wasn’t too worried about it, LOL).
Garry, Streamlined passenger units? The all stainless type?
No all the kitties are not behaving. Both of mine were just caught sleeping on the mainlines.

Morning all !
Roofers are coming today so i'd better get a coffee to go
Yes it's taken this long after the storm { Ike } to get my roof done
they are so busy it's hard to get them even to come out and look
lots of blue tarps all over Houston And Galveston is still a big mess
piles of trash for miles down there still not picked up
I suppose at my age a new roof is a waste of my money but
the thought of getting water damage to the layout is just to big a nightmare !
It's supposed to be mid 70s today so a good day for the roofers
pretty big change from the snow just a couple of days ago
Hope every one has a good day !!!

Good Morning Gents
Haven't been around lately as I've been building an Arch! Never seen such heavy rain as yesterday. WoW just doesn't give it justice and if it had been snow we would be into the beginning of of the next ice age.
LEE! Have one on me bud and let your hair down.
Anyway here's one for the books
">
Not much else on the go here though Terry you maybe interested to know I've added a C&O Hudson to the roster. Though I'll have to replace the open frame motor as the DCC system smoked her Yes 30 seconds of realistic smoke!
Later Guys

Good Morning! The current temperature here is -11 C and we are expecting a 40% chance of snowflurries changing over to more showers tonight. Tomorrow will just be showers with a high finishing off at 7C.
TNX Lee for the small mercy! lol! I'll just have a dk roast with a couple of sunnyside eggs this morning---now I got to find what 'Spring' is up to--I just heard a clunk/bang sound---
Good morning,
Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 36. South wind between 14 and 17 mph. Tonight: A slight chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Breezy, with a south wind between 17 and 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%
LSWrrJeff, looks like you have some nice new autos for your layout and I suspect if the Mini Cooper driver doesn’t change his plates the locals will be pulling him over every day, darn out of state tourists!
Good morning. It's 42 and clearin the Sportsman's Paradise. The high will be in the mid 60's and it will be partly cloudy. Yesterday I finally got my SPSF Kodachrome GP38-2 running well after going through two bum motors. They work but any locomotive they're put in will make a snail look like it's turbo-charged. For now it has a Bachmann 1 amp decoder but will get upgraded to a Digitrax DZ125 as soon as I can get my hands on one. Cash is pretty tight right now and train stuff is just not in the budget. Imagine my surprise yesterday when I check my snail mail and find a small box containing not one, but two 1:87 vehicles. A Hot Wheels VW Bug and a Reel-Rides Mini Cooper. There was no return address on the package though the post-mark indicates it came from Detroit Michigan. Whoever sent it, you know who you are, you have my thanks. You made my day. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/13/2008 Wind Chill: 35°F Humidity: 71% Dew Point: 33°F So Far Today High: 42°F Low: 37°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 12mph SSE Today High: 65 Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 60s. Southeast winds 10 to 20 mph. Tonight Low: 58 Mostly cloudy. Warmer. Lows in the upper 50s. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
Jeff; The cars are neat looking things. But I'm wondering--Do the motors rotate stiffly? If they're that slow I'm suspecting things---
My suspision is that there's a short in the armature wiring, causing them to draw a lot more power. In fact, I'm sure of it, as they would get hot while running.
Good Morning....Its cloudy and 29 here this morning...Just time for a cup of coffee and toast please..Thank you...Grandma and I are going to look after our Sons 3 daughters while He goes to "talk" to Santa Clause...We are looking forward to spending the day with Grand Babys....You all have a good one...Jerry
Mornin' everyone!
Lotsa dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug Flo! Thanks! Oh and an English Muffin with some grape jelly would be nice.
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey Fergie! Good to see you. How's the MESS coming along?
Happy late birthday Lee! At least you don't need to hear that song we sang for Tom......
I got the tree transported and set up in its base for my sister. She was pretty good this year about staying on task while I held the tree in place. We then went out to eat thinking with the snowy weather places would be empty. Went to a nice local restaurant that we both like and there wasn't a parking spot within a mile of the place and the waiting line was out the door....... So we went to her favorite place in town, a little Mexican restaurant. She is friends with the owner who is also an artist. Managed to get a booth in what was an already packed place. I have never been big on Mexican food but the owner came up with something without tomatoes in it (One of the things I don't like), a fajita made with chicken that was a 10! Absolutely wonderful!!! My sister just had an Art Show at his Restaurant a few weeks ago and he goes out of his way to make sure anyone she brings in to the place leaves a happy customer. His business is growing in the midst of the economic downturn.
I have to load all my sound equipment into the trailer today so I can do a concert at the Smith Opera House downtown tomorrow. I will be using the house system for the most part but have to bring in the monitor system and my own board, mics, wires, and stuff like that. I used to love packing up for these things but as I get older it becomes more w**k........
Gotta finish my coffee and get to doing stuff. See you later!

Good Morning, Flo - I'll have a couple of waffles, some bacon and some maple syrup, please. Oh yes, glass of Ed's OJ, glass of milk (2 percent) and a cup of coffee, too, please. Thanks!
First - Lee, a belated (and embarassed) and I hope it was a fun one for ya. My thanks for that info on the drivers (and the light vs. heavy distinction). That will help me, as I was looking at getting a Mikado this year, and now know that (since my RR's area has some mountains) I probably need to get a USRA Heavy Mike. Meant to ask you, do your cats like that tingly feeling when you startup the power pack when they are snoozing on the track? Give them a hot foot?
Robby! Ohmigosh! Don't eat that cat! (sorry, couldn't resist...) That is one big tabbie, though.
Ryan, maybe you'd better ease off on the food portions for a bit, or poor Todd will be packing it on like the rest of us Diners. That Po'Boy does look good, though.
Jeff, I like the effect with your mirror! I'd agree on it looking like a snowglobe, all right. Congrats on your new cars, too. From your description and the photos I saw on the news, I bet they were showing somewhere close to Amite. 8 inches of the stuff?
BC, a 'beat the crossing gate' kind of pic, huh?
Tom, do your weatherguessers out there only like predictable, sunny California weather (unlike REAL weather that the rest of the country gets)?? Mild, huh? Send them over here (or better yet, send them up CN Charlie's way), and we'll give 'em an appreciation for 'mild' weather... How old is that #3 and #4 section of your layout, by the way? Is it in the ancient, built-it-10-years-ago class, or how new? Unless your feline friends have been playing with the wiring while you were asleep or gone to the store.... But hopefully, that's not it. Yeah, from what you said, I wouldn't give Remington catnip anymore (like - never again!).
Goodness, Rob, your wife is sure getting into trains and her layout! Had she been interested in trains for very long before you were talking about a layout yourself (like when you were dating, even)? You may need to build your benchwork quickly to stake your part of the train room, or she may commandeer the whole thing...
CederstrandHope everyone is doing well this evening and all the kitties are behaving themselves.
Uh, CN Charlie - we feel your pain about the weather, but please, puhleeeze do NOT share that with us NOTB types here. That is a bit worse than what Tom's weather folks would call 'mild'....Sheesh, indeed! Bet lots of people your way (CN Charlie's) will be firing up their snowblowers if they need to get out. Or does everything kind of shut down when it's that bad there?
Fergie, that's a couple of comfy dogs, eh? On your loco smoke, was it in sync with the chuffing sound? And when will we be seeing photos of this famed arch that you're building?
Terry, hope the roofers get going and don't overcharge (or underwork) for it. Your weather sounds much better now. I expect (if he can get out and drive around) that CN Charlie will be down to visit with you soon.
Ray, best wishes on your 'gig' tomorrow. Sounds like you had a good lunch with your sister.
Well, my laundry's done now (they have WiFi there), so I'll be heading out to put it away and then I'll be swinging by H-L to see what I can use my 40 percent off coupon on. Last night I used a coupon and my Barnes & Noble member card to get the MR issue for about $4.55. Also picked up my daughter's requested gift (card) there. Need to pick up son-in-law's iTunes card yet, but I think they have those in the K-Mart store here.
Prayers for a warm and dry place to be, and for healing for those on our 'ill' list.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Mornin’ everybody, Boy is it windy out. Just coffee please. Thanks. Apparently the wife wants me to go shopping with her today. That should be an adventure. I don’t shop. I get and grab.
Well this week all I got done was lay one half of a 3 ft section of road bed. Don’t know why I’m not done yet at this lightning pace. I guess I’m gonna get brave and try to post a picture. Someone (memory what memory) posted plain old step by step instructions and I think I can I think I can. I’m feelin’ brave and pretty sure you guys (non-gender specific) will be kind. All suggestions for improvement will be welcome and taken well. It often takes another set of eyes to see what I can‘t. Uh-oh, baby dog just showed up looking guilty.
Yup two ornaments on the floor. Labrador tails are always moving. Should tie a dust rag to that thing and put her to work.
Happy late birthday Lee.
I’m glad my wife just supports my MRR and doesn’t want one or I’m a feared I’d be in worse shape than Rob
Speaking of the wife she’s starting to pace around, we all know what that means. Oh well, we’ll be in the neighbor hood of the new Western Sizzlin’ in Springfield. Maybe………
Don’t think a stop at the LHS is in the plan. I tell her “but you know me I just get and grab”
Have a good day all.

Wife's interest in trains grew over time as we have been together. Initially (IMHO) it was more to keep me happy with all that was going on with her relatives. However, at this point she is really getting into the whole concept, "Her concept" of model railroad. Yea, she is exhibiting the God complex now.
I'm still wound up. Cronitc fatigue compounded by poor sleep just isn't good for ones mental or physical health. I really look forward to having the build done and everyone out of here. I'm worn out. Still, sure beats the alternative. (pitty party over)
Have a great day, all. Rob
Lee: Found the decals in the mail this morning. They're just what I wanted. Thanks.
Well, we had a basketball game today. Before I tell you thew final, I'll tell you that our team is all 8th graders and the team we faced is pretty much all 10th graders.
We lost, 37-14
I got 4 fouls, one guy fouled out. I hit the court about 3-4 times in the first period. My knees still hurt from that, lol. Most of my fouls were pretty hard, so don't think I didn't fight back a little, lol.
