Evenin' folks!
Tall glass of iced tea zoe. I have the wood stove fired up and it has reached 50°F outside with rain. Since the last time I loaded it was late afternoon when it was around 40°, the house is now up to 80° here. I don't usually light the stove unless it is below 40° outside. Time to get out the shorts I guess............
I have been waiting for an e-mail from the Middle School Music Dept. letting me know if and what they need for sound for Thursday's concert. They should have been back in touch yesterday to let me know what the set up is and what they need. Tonights paper had a report on the School Board meeting Monday Night. Looking at cuts in State aid for all the schools up here, they are axing everything that hasn't already been spent for this year (no details however) that isn't absolutely needed to operate the school. Thermostats will be turned down to 68° or less. Lights shut off, field trips are gone, etc. So I think they are waiting on official word that they can't pay me to do the sound....... I really don't mind for me as this is the last year I planned to do it anyway. I just wish they would let me know.........
Melted down a bunch of old candles from my Sister today and using old paper egg cartons that I save made a lot of fire starters for the wood stove (and any camping trips next summer).
Sawyer for years every time I was under stress during my 32 year career as a teacher I would have this nightmare where I had a paper due the next morning and I hadn't started it yet.... Not only that, I wasn't sure what it was about and nobody would tell what class it was for!!!!!! Now I have nightmares where I am supposed to be teaching a music class but I can't find the room and I don't know who's class it is! I think it is the same dream just updated. Good luck getting the paper retyped!
Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
heh heh....good suggestions guys. Wife chose HO because she couldn't see my N scale well enough. In hindsight, she would have opted for O scale, although there is that "cost factor". I could always suggest combining our layouts and use my N scale in a forced perspective way. That would sure complicate things for a pair of first time MRR'ers so perhaps that is not a good idea.
It's way to late for me to switch from N to HO, as I could never sell what I have for enough to justify it. Besides, I would miss my little trains too much. Have only been into N scale since I was perhaps 8 years old or so. Have never lost the thrill of watching all those tiny parts of a steam loco moving in harmony.

Bravo to your wife, Rob. I will second her choice for HO. I am glad to have magnefication loops for HO.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
That dream sounds so familiar Ray. I worked for the U.S. Govt DOD for the Army guard and every time I would go on a "trip", I'd have a dream that it was late at night, I was leaving tomorrow wasn't packed and couldn't find eveything and needed to get more of something....etc. Know exactly what you mean

Evening all from STILL SunnyCal. Yuk! I just mailed Mother Nature, told her IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE WINTER, SEND US A #%$&^ STORM OR TWO, WILLYA? Not a drop of rain, the Sierras have absolutely NO snow, my rebuilt leg is just aching to go skiing--GRRR!
Okay, now that I've got THAT off my chest.
Well, my birthday tomorrow, I think I'll head off to the hobby shop. I was there about two weeks ago, and in the brass case--HOO BOY--there was an SP MT-2. Now I don't know what everyone else knows about SP Mountains, but as far as models, the MT-2 (ex El Paso and Southwestern) is one really RARE bird. And here was this one in the case, Elesco FWH and all, just looking to be adopted. And a very nice price. I think I might bite. Hey, after all, I'm going to be 69, so I think I can treat myself, can't I? We'll see. After all, my Z-6 isn't going to be in for a couple of months--he, he,
Ray--My sympathies, buddy. Out here, the public school system is cutting music programs like crazy--I have a lot of friends who are just blinking at what they've got left to deal with. Are there any private or Catholic schools in your area? Offer your services to them. One thing those schools do NOT do is cut music programs, they realize that music education is ESSENTIAL to a student's overall development. Wish the public schools would realize that. It isn't just standing there singing or sitting their blowing a trombone, the discipline carries over into every facet of their learning. The Arts COUNT!
Well, nothing much else new. I just set up the Christmas tree, with some definitely strange help from Remington and Spooky. Haven't put the decorations on yet, I'll do that tomorrow. Then I'll set the Bachmann On30 train around it. THIS should be fun. Had to pluck Remington out of the tree twice, putting it up. He thinks he's a kitten and things like this should be climbed upon. He doesn't realize that he's 18 pounds and the tree kept leaning. Spooky, of course, being a Princess, just sat there and stared. "Oh, he's so DUMB, Daddy." I can't wait until tomorrow, LOL!
Better go. I hear rustling in the tree again, and Spooky's right here staring at me. I swear, Remington walks around with a slingshot in his back pocket.
Best to all, prayers to those in need. I'll let you know what my (brass) birthday present is tomorrow.

Good morning. It's 39 and cloudy. The high is expected to be around 40 and it will be rainy with a chance of snow and sleet tonight. Didn't do much yesterday. I converted a BB GP38-2 to DCC only to discover that it had a bum motor. It ran but very slowly. I changed the motor out and it runs OK now. The rest of the day was spent bracing for the storm and dealing with it's aftermath. I know I won't get anything done today as I have to go to Alexandria to have my eyes dilated again so the doc can look for more damaged blood vessels due to my diabetes. At least the weather is cooperating with me for once. It'll be good and cloudy on the drive back home. Tom!!! And a Good Morning to all of you!!
Tom; Might I suggest maybe tying the tree to something like a wall or a ceiling? I'm relatively lucky that over the past 8 years we've had 'Spring' he had not knocked this tree over yet--mind though, he's only 7lbs.
It is -3C out. Dull-Dull-Dull. And nice and icy out...

Good Morning All,
Just a coffee to go please. Done little but w..k and sleep this week as we are pressing a deadline to finish a car to ship with it's 3 mates to Idaho Fri. Weather has now trurned warm and rainy - yesterday it was just bitter cold. Typical New England.
Happy Birthday Tom, hope to see pics of the new brass - sounds good anyway. You have just on a decade on me so I only got the hybrid for my Birthday (the 1st of Dec). Need more seniority before the CFO will allow brass here.
Lee Happy Birthday a day early. That recurring dream is like mine where I can't find my rig in the truck stop lot - oh wait - that really happened.
Ray - sadly with public ed these days all the emphasis is on wages and test scores. It would be nice if the people you worked with for so long had the decency to keep you apprised of the situation, but if they are in the same blind panic they're in here, you can see how things fall through the cracks. We seem to spend so much on tests and testing with this NCLB stuff that little seems left for sports, music, art or even the other non tested academic subjects that are critical to a complete education. I'll get off my podium now and get back to the shop stuff. See y'all later, J.R.
Ray; I'd like to see those in control of the purse strings in public education take a bite out of their own admin. budgets...hardly ever see that...grumble gripe
BC at the top of the page. Does that mean you are buying my cup of coffee?
Happy birthday, Tom.
Gotta grab the morning cup.........
So whats up with everyone today?
I know that the last two days have been INSANE at my job. I'm hoping that comes to an end. I mean, I don't mind being busy, but I don't really care for being completely overwhelmed, ya know?
Hey, check out this video my Mom sent me: http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/?action=view¤t=200712_casa-iluminada-musica-navida.flv Pretty amazing, huh?
Morgan, I've thought about checking out the Naptown. Maybe I'll have to move it up the priority list, huh?
TMarshWould love to tell more of my layout maybe ideas will flow, BUT I have a tendancy to ramble.
Don't worry, we like rambling from time to time!
Hey Tom.........
And many more!
Sue --- hey why not?
Hmmnn--error on page? Oh bother
Oh--now we get a " spicule of sun"( spicule--an extremely small incident of sun)
Tom .... "May your birthday be bright; Full of Joy and Delight." (such talent)
Morgan.... That Polar Train was really impressive! Feel free to tell more about it.
Jeff ... your layout is looking great these days!
Todd .... I'm happy to see you stopped in the diner again. Please continue.
Lee ... Is your Lake Shore railroad "fallen flag", the same road that went through Ashtabula. In the 1870's it was the scene of one of the most deadly railroad disasters in history for those not familiar. Railroads avoided building new truss bridges out of wood afer that accident.
Paul ..... I'm very concerned about Mary Ann.
Chuck .... thinking of you too.
Ryan .... I hope Monique is better now.
Any word from Inch?
Our cat has been getting sick lately. She has been eating some needles off of the Christmas tree.
I am continuing to make progress on the layout.

No, no! Tom and J. R. they are not cutting the music program! Music and Art are mandated credit bearing classes in NYS. What will very likely happen is that the moneys set aside for buying new music, hiring me to come in and run the sound board and set up microphones, buses for transporting kids to All-Counties, contests, and the like will disappear. Just like it will for all other classes. It is time to tighten the belt unless the taxpayers want to pay double digit increases in the property tax. I did get an e-mail first thing this morning from the lady who is the Vocal Teacher. They are going to go acoustic with the choruses which will sing in the pit. They won't need sound reinforcement from there (on stage the auditorium is such that you "disappear" without reinforcement). They will need an announcement mic on stage and one in the pit. The lady also apologized for being late getting back to me. Every time she sat down to send me the e-mail something needed immediate attention and she forgot about it at the end of the day. At this point they are not having to cut anything, but I won't turn in an invoice for what little this amounts to. That money should be used for other things. Besides all that, I am getting out of the business of sound reinforcement anyway so this may be an easy way for me to "bow out".....
Flo, just a large FGLK mug with dark roast this morning. Temps back down to 33°F this morning and the rain just switched over to snow as I was typing. Not going to amount to much (tail end of the major system from yesterday) but will mke roads a mess for part of the day.
Have a great day!
Flash Flood Warning Tornado Watch Flash Flood Watch Wind Advisory
Had one storm come through that woke me up for awhile. (Mother Nature was bowling up there) Tornado watch expired. Looks like we had a LOT of rain with this one.
***Jeffrey, nice CAT.
Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have a cinnamon roll and a cup of coffee, please 'n' thank you, Ma'am.
B-C, do you have a sloping hill for that Purina mill to be on? If not, might need some really strong bracing or screw-downs for that board. Y'know about Murphy and all, right?
Tom (the boy), maybe you should've named Remington "Dennis" (as in, "the Menace")? It may be an... interesting Christmas season at your house with those two. On that brass SP Mountain, I bet your 'little' furry ones are drooling already and clapping their little paws together, at the mention of 'brass loco'.. And as Terry said - where are the new loco photos? We want pictures, Tom!
I've never had those kind of dreams about the papers or getting ready for something and not having the stuff (so far). Most of the time, I don't even recall my dreams, just sleep..
JR - they're gonna race in Idaho in December? Do those cars you work on have snow tires on them? I would expect that surely Idaho has a few inches (or more) of the fluffy white stuff by now. And no need to apologize for a short rant, JR - I can relate to what others mentioned about the arts in school, as a former elementary art teacher (among other things).
Lee, any birthday plans for yours? LHS trip, etc.? Or are your LHSes snowed/iced in there?
We had a little mix last night in our weather, but it was above freezing by the time I got up, so nothing on the windshield of my car that the wipers couldn't take care of. Roads to w**k were okay. Most of the moisture has moved out of our area now. Still a bit cool, but manageable weather.Nothing like CN Charlie or B-C or Johnboy get up NOTB from us...
Todd, as PC said, we have no problem with rambling in the Diner (and do it ourselves on many occasions). Ramble away!
Garry, I hope your cat hasn't found some holly berries or poinsettia leaves to chew on. Those are a definite no-no for cats - or humans!
I'll sit back here in the booth a while and wait for Tom to bring in the new loco to show off.
Blessings,

I hear ya!!! I worked in a school system for 11 years where the Superintendent used to brag to the board how he had screwed the teachers as a reason they should reward him with a fat raise...... Knowing the gentleman (and he is that) who is at the top of our school hierarchy, reductions will be done across the board and as fairly as possible (he tried to cut a principal in the elementary last year and the public outcry was deafening................).
