Hi folks, I'm Todd. Nice to meet you. Oh I'm sorry, just coffee please, black. Just figured out what this place was and thought I'd stop in and say hi. Chuck is it? I'm sorry to hear about your mother. Been off today and am having fits with dirt roads, can't seem to get 'em right. Banged HeadGuess I'll post a plea for help soon as I figure out how to put it. Also wanted to say this is one of the best forum groups I've been checkin' out. One other is pretty good, but you guys (non-gender spacific), seem to be the most laid back in respect to other peoples...um... railroad dreams shall I say? You really don't bark bite or turn up your nose at someone who "Freelances" and is not obsessed  with prototypically correct. You really give the feeling that there IS room for everyone in this hobby.  Well gotta go hope to talk to you soon.

Chuck and Kathy: So sorry to hear about your mother, Chuck.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.  It’s always a shock even if expected, and 96 is a venerable age!  That peaceful end is also a relief. Thinking of Kathy too…batteries of tests can be gruelling.  Hope all those parts continue to work for you Your articulateds take a 10% grade? That’s impressive.

Garry, the snow plough video is great.  Kris enjoyed it too! I’m surprised more snow didn’t stick to the sides of those cars after the train went through!

Paul, our thoughts are with Mary Ann and yourself too.Angel

Ray: Enquiring minds need that cookie recipe! Looks good enough to eat LOL!

TMarsh: to the Diner.  You describe so well just why I hang here.  What are you presently doing with your gravel roads that isn’t turning out as well as you’d hoped? If you describe your technique, maybe we can pitch in a few ideas.  Looking at the road outside our place here, the non-trafficed parts are a seriously different colour than the travelled lane(s) The basic rock colour used here is grey, but the travelled gravel has turned a sandy brown with the fine silty mud resulting from the traffic. Also, what scale are you  modelling? I’ve found it best to go down a scale size for the stone used.  So when I was in HO, then N scale ballast looked better to me than the HO.      Thanks again for the track cleaning input folks.  Humidity is an issue on our fog bound coast. Putting in a de-humidifier isn’t a practical option however, as the train room door is nearly always open, and the house is in no way sealed against the ambient air.I know the problem isn’t from loose ballast; or from glue from the ballasting remaining on the track. It was vacuumed after ballasting, and the Gleam Method cleaning done after that. I may go over a section with the 1300 grit emery paper I use as the stage before burnishing in the Gleam process. I don’t think a Boy will be man enough for this job, however Bright it is!

Luke: Sorry about your relative’s horse, sad day, as you say. BTW,  smilies! Did you see this subtle hint as to Jim Davis’ possible mrr preferences?

Time for bed once again, where do the days go?

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.Angel

Luke that is sad.  My condolences to your family.  A horse can be such an intelligent and loving animal.  Very easy to become so attached to them.  I know it will be missed.

My son and his wife (and daughter) were out shopping yesterday when he got a phone call from a neighbor that their 13 year old cat had been killed in the street in front of his house.  The neighbor was kind enough to put him in a bag so that they didn't have to see old Oliver that way.  The cat had a bad habit of sleeping in the middle of the road and this time didn't get out of the way quick enough I guess.  He was a strange old cat, but I got along well with him.

Tall Eggnog, please & thanks.

***Lee/Sue, my wife agrees with you and thinks I should seal the tile after the contractor is gone. I already sealed the kitchen tiles (just the grout). We've also decided to buy the carpet direct ourselves. We just want him finished up and on his way.

***Jeffrey, Ezra's car looks sharp. Hope it doesn't bottom out going over RR tracks in town.

***Chuck, you have a lot to deal with these days. Very sorry to read such news. At least at 96, she had a long life and went peacefully.

***Paul, you must be Superman. Do take care of yourself as well.

***Todd, I'll be modeling a Soylent Green Plant and nobody here has locked the door when they see me approaching the Diner...yet. Welcome aboard.

***Luke, I enitrely understand the loss of a 4-legged friend, especially a horse. Special and unique animals with no two alike. You have my sympathies.

Almost 2:00am...sleep meds are finally kicking in. Night all. Cowboy Rob

Morning all!

So it's one of those mornings when I haven't slept well, don't know why, and I've got a lot going on today.  No problem, a second wind should be moving in about any time!  And besides......coffee is my FRIEND!

Hey, check it out!  We might see the 50's today!  It'll be raining, so no motorcycle riding, but it's the 50's!  Looks like I might get a short ride on Saturday though.  Supposed to be in the 40's and sunny.  I'll ride in that!

Hey Todd, welcome to the coffee shop!

You're right on the money, this is one of the most relaxing places to hang on the web!  And hey, about those dirt roads, have you seen this?  http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/scenery/clods/

Ryan,  Thanks for the cookies.  They sure are artwork, and tasty, too.

Morning, Zoe - I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, the eyeopener special with toast and blackberry jam (eggs scrambled, please) and a cup of coffee. Oh, yes, I will have a couple of those cookies Ryan brought in, for dessert. Thanks. Dinner

DerJohn, I was wondering if the acrylic paints might be leeching some of the moisture from the (salty) air into the rails. Might be, might be not, since I'm no chemist. Ah, I see you have your train and tree up already. Thumbs Up

Ryan, good to hear of Monique's improvement, and congrats on the new (niece? is that right?). Hope Monique gets caught up some on her sleep once she's back home.

Ray, I've used some of those excuses myself when eating cookies. Hope they work better for you than they do for me (to keep the inches off of your waist).

Jeff - do the local cops know about Ezra's nice (fasssst!) beauty yet? They'll be calibrating the high end of their radar guns, I'm betting. Wink

Chuck, sorry to hear about your Mom's passing and Kathy being in the hospital. Garry's right - 96 years is a good, long life. Hope the doctors get things pinpointed and solved for Kathy, and that she gets feeling better soon. We'll keep her and you in our thoughts and prayers.

Paul, as Terry said - you and Mary Ann continue in our prayers, and hope you get some sleep, so you don't get run down. AngelAngel

Garry, on that snowplow - Wow!!... They do get some snowdrifts out there in Kansas, even without hills!

Sign - Welcome Todd, and thank you for your kind words about the Diner. Have a cup on me (I'm one of those nasty freelancers...Smile,Wink, & Grin, in HO scale). Hey, if we get a troll in here, we just offer them cookies and smile at 'em. Wink Ditto what DerJohn said - we're glad to offer our ideas/suggestions, and some of them might even work! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Luke, sorry to hear about your friend's horse - how long have they had him/her?

Had a bunch of rain last night/this morning, some thunderboomers (the low rumbly kinds) woke me up, but I just turned over and went back to Zzz - until the dreaded alarm clock intterupted my nap this morning... Think we had half an inch (I think that's about 12-13 mm or so, right?) by 7 a.m. this morning, and it was realy pouring down as I was driving to w**k. Tonight it's supposed to cool off a bunch, and by midnight or so, we're to have a little of that sleet/snow/rain mix stuff we all know and love (NOT!). Good day to have a bowl of hot soup for lunch, indeed!

Ryan, what're the choices on soup today in the Diner? Dinner

Blessings on your day (and a dry, warm place to be),

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Only problem is the new receiver is defective, as the sound takes 1-3 minutes to come on.Banged Head I wonder if folks building everything in China are messing with our heads/psycological warfare. Mornin' everyone!

Flo just my usual FGLK Mug of dark roast and cereal. (And sneak me one of those Christmas cookies that Ryan brought this morning..... Don't let Jim see it.  Thanks!)

It is currently 36°F outside with a threat of 46°F this afternoon....  "We're Havin' A Heatwave...  Tropical Heatwave....."  Roads are a bit icy at the moment as there was sleet and snow last night.  Not a large accumulation but enough to make things dangerous out there.  I think I will just stay put and watch things go by out the window while I enjoy my coffee.

Have a great day and stay warm!

Jeff, the truck looks nice, I forgot what does L&A stand for?

Louisiana & Arkansas. It used to be a real railway and quite successful too. In the 30's it bought the KCS and merged the two companies and made ithe L&A a subservient road to the KCS. It was the L&A that owned and operated the Southern Belle, the Shreveporter and the Hustler passenger trains. Through the 50's and 60's the identity of the L&A gradually faded away as the Kansas City Southern name was adopted for all properties. All reference to the L&A had disappeared of the stockholder reports by 1966. All passenger service ended on the KCS in Nov 1969. KCS officially dissolved the L&A in 1992. So I guess you could say I'm free-lancing a fallen flag.
