I've been involved with enough plays in high school and college to realize that the first couple of rehearsals are to get all the nervousness out and everyone working together. Glad you called the fellow 'techies' on their goofing around, and if you're unpopular with them right now, wait until the DIRECTOR gets on their case, LOL!.
I did a lot of Drama in high school and college (yah, I was always the Romantic Lead--BORRRRRRING!) and I remember one director who came down on anyone that goofed and said, "I'm not your BUDDY, I'm the DIRECTOR! Get with the PROGRAM!!". Best darned director I ever worked with. Scared me to death, but the plays were ALWAYS top-notch.
So you keep being a Professional, buddy. The End Result is what's important!

CN Charlie, my condolences on losing Jamie. It takes some time to heal, when we lose a pet we love. You guys were reminding me about when I lost my dachshund (I was almost in junior high at the time, and he came down with sleeping sickness and we had to have the vet put him down).
Jeff, good to hear you got things taken care of - at both places. I won't get into a rant about bureaucrats, but I can agree with you on that.
MRR club tonight was getting passing tracks and (most of) the switches and track between them hooked up. One curved switch was giving trouble (I think Ron, our LHS owner/club member, got it fixed, but Kevin (head architect) said he needs to redo the motor on that one. Kevin was also checking the power busses under the benchwork (we have most of the sections with the wiring that was under them for the old location, so he was checking and/or pulling the wiring, as needed). There are two sections where the wiring isn't long enough to hook up to the adjacent sections, I think Kevin said.
We also had a special guest in Cape Girardeau (not at our club meeting) this evening. Our local news was covering that Dick Cheney came to a fundraiser at the home of David Limbaugh (Rush's brother, and a conservative columnist) for a Republican state candidate (Peter Kinder). So Air Force Two (think it was a Boeing 757, like Southwest Airlines uses) flew into the Cape Girardeau Airport. The longest runway here is just under 6500 feet long, so they probably had to hustle to get it off the ground on takeoff. I didn't hear on the news about anyone getting shot at the fundraiser, so I guess that's good news... (Avoiding any political overtones) I've actually met David Limbaugh - he attends the church I used to go to, and taught one Bible class on (I think) Romans (and how it resembles a legal brief), and he heads up the Limbaugh Law Firm in town (started by the father, Rush Limbaugh, Sr. - after whom the new federal courthouse has been named. A little bit of local trivia for you government buffs out there...
Gav, good to see you followed the bread crumb trail to our new location. I'm a bit too far from the DC area, but maybe some of our Maryland or Virginia folks can meet up with you. Is your trip pleasure or business?

Sorry to hear about Lowell and Jamie passing. We truely get attached to our furry friends and they are mourned as one of the family.
Not much model railroading news from this end as we're still gutting the house and putting the finishing touches on the shed where the layout will rest in bits until we get the house back together. At least the new crew is making great progress straightening out the mess left by the last bunch and some of the dodgy stuff from the first renovation. We still have to straighen out the chimney (now too low) and move a couple of rough openings but the walls are now vertical and straight and the sheathing no longetr looks like a patchwork quilt.
Returned from Road Atlanta yesterday where we wrapped up one series taking second in the enduro championship, second and third in the sprint race series, as well as class wins in two classes. Not bad. I'm not sure where points ended up with the Monoposto (single seater) championships, but we were in contention for two of those as well. It gets convoluted, but we run all year to do this and it's great when we get a good result.
I'll try to stop by more often now that the racing season is winding down but it's more difficult as i don't have any train stuff to share just now and I don't like to just ramble on about my travails at home. Catch y'all later, J.R.

Chilly 'round here! I think my scoot riding days are over for this year. It's just too darn cold! I nearly froze to death yesterday morning! I'll be driving the van for now. I'm hoping to get my funding for a nice little Porsche 914 soon though. Good on gas and fun in the corners! We'll see!

Tom and Charlie: Sorry for your pets were a big part of your life. My MiL who now lives with us had to put her Persian down several months ago and no surprise it affected not only her but the rest of us. Say what you will but they are an integral part of the family circle.

Jeff: Nice job on the Coaling Station. I'll be interested in how your roof turns out. As for the PSA test well I have a friend (40'sh) who just had his Prostate removed. Good thing is they caught it in time so the surgery was a sucess without damage to the surrounding nerves. So yes they are very important tests to say the least! When I had my PSA done earlier this year it was just a simple sample in the bottle and leave it and I got the results a week later, no fuss no muss.
GMT: Was up in Ontario a week ago and found out I am the only Cousin in the family who isn't in to racing. Turns out one of my cousins is a member of the Racing Club at Mosport. I have vague memories of the place as a toddler. Dad use to love it there.

Thanks. The cars are at KMART, not sure if you have one of those in Canada. The LHS charges $12 each but Wal-Mart and KMart sell them for under $2. I plan on going there Saturday and see what they have out as I'm looking at 1950's vehicles myself. I did go to the manufactures web site and they have vhecles from present day back to 1938.
The decals are water slide decals I printed on my ALPS-1000 printer. It will print every color including white. My only problem is the white ink is too translucent for black rolling stock and I haven't mastered that color yet.

I worked yesterday on block of buildings with the "new" Piggly Wiggly grocery on it...Got base and sidewalk figured out..Also got Atlas Caboose painted ready to decal for Illinois Central...I am bidding on a old Atlas GP 7..It needs paint and Feller says it doesn't run to well sounds like a project..

I'm working out in the shop this morning. I sand blasted the two standard gauge gons to get them ready for painting and have the flat ready. I'm going to get a primer coat on today at least so they won't rust and need more blasting.
Well I'd better get back to the shop. Any of you guys remember my battles with the rodents? Well the war is back on. Yes we have plenty of cats and a couple of mice catching dogs but the little buggers still are getting into the house.

Paul - bummer about the rodent problem, hope you get that under control soon. My trainroom seems to attract crickets, but something in there seems to be killing them - I only see their dead carcasses lying near the door...
Jeff - I positively loathe doctor visits! My doctor himself is OK, but the practice management always over-schedules patients, so whenever I have a routine appointment I end up waiting up to ~90mins before I actually see the doc. For that reason I always schedule my appointment for the earliest time slot on a given day, before the "emergency" walk-ins start showing up.

Fergie, yeah, a Porsche 914. Two seater (just to put back and forth to work and maybe go for a Sunday drive with the wife), a slightly warmed over VW Type IV motor with a five speed, and carves corners like it's an oversized go-cart so it's not too boring. Add to that, they're dirt cheap, insurance is cheap, parts are everywhere, you can work on it at home without a computer, and it's going up in value every year instead of down and you've got a real winner there. It suits me for a daily commuter.

The sandwich, chili and root beer look good - make that two orders please ladies. Worked through a bunch of stuff today so maybe New Jersey this weekend won't be so bad after all. Looks to be cold though. The new track is called Thunderbolt and it's in Millville south of Atlantic City. Should be the last hurrah for our vintage racing season.
Can't do anything with it just yet, but I did order up a Turbo train from my not too local hobby shop this afternoon. Good pricing from my bud and still no New Haven HH600 but they should be near. Rapido also announced the Osgood Bradley lightweight coaches (nee American Flyer) so I need to figure out how many of them to order as well. Guess I have a thing for passenger trains, no? The AF's should look the bees knees hooked on behind my I-5 loco.
PC - the 914 2.0 was my favorite when I worked for the dealership. Except for the 2.0 911S there wasn't anything more fun to drive on a winding road. The 1.7 has problamatic fuel injection and the 1.8 can be quirky as well with O-rings on the oil filler breaking and stopping the car (loses intake pressure and closes the flapper on the inlet poteniometer). also the air flow meters used to warp and bind especially on long trips and the result was much like a stuck throttle but not as drastic. Also the rear brakes were prone to corroding making it impossible to reset the parking brake. The latter is easy to fix if you antisieze the adjustor screws before they sieze (just like the VW 411 they took the parts off). When you do find one, check carefully for rust especially around the battery box. The pedal cluster can be a pain if the bushings go, but the fix is cheap if time consuming. If you have a sense of humor you'll be fine and they are much more reliable than the Brit stuff I prefer. As you said, all the parts are still available new or from the "recycler". Gotta run, the boss says dinner is served soon so I can just make it home before it's ready. CUL, J.R.
Jim I tried the cats. For a year after that I was still getting fur out of the running gear of my steam locomotives. I filled up the shop vac several times sucking up the stuff also. Oh and after that I still had to use traps.This time there is one that chewed through a control wire on the powder rooms low voltage light control. I fised it with a jelly bean connector. So tonight he did it again and took the jelly bean. Since he has now set a time for his antics I'm thinking about setting and waiting for him with my .17 HMR. Just one shot should do it. Of course I'd probably get him and some wiring also. I'll try some sticky traps instead.
Well this afternoon everything worked as it is supposed to on posting. Tonight it's back to running off the right margin and heading for who knows where. At least when I post it comes out right.
I got the floor for one of the gons done and have only to drill the holes for the bolts on the second one. These gons are 6 footers. I also have two 5 footers to do along with three 5 foot flat cars. tomorrow if the rain isn't bad I'll try and get the two gons and one of the flats painted. I moved everything into the tractor shed so it's out of the weather. We do need the rain through.
Well I'm going to hit the showers and get some of this blasting grit out of my hair.

My studio is spray foamed with basically the same stuff, but an earlier version (from a different "foamer"), plus I added fiberglass insulation over it. This time, I am only going to add fiberglass insulation in the floor (above the train room) and in the interior walls of the master bedroom/bath/closet/etc. ...and I am wearing a mask!
BTW, these guys told me we didn't need a 2-ton ac/heat unit for this space with their insulation. Guess we have overkill on that one. Could have saved some money, gosh darn-it.
