It;s a Marklin Steamer of the DB Class 52 with a Condenser Tender. SP has the Kraus Maffei, I want THAT, Guy had it at a HO Euro club today. I'll get pictures up, I promise. I drolled on their layout at it for a while. There was also a cute as a buton little early era steamer, she was pulling a worktrain. I can't find the pictutes of her though
Picked up an AMtrak Amfleet Cab Car dummy, it;s missing the pantograph. That can be fixed. Also got a set of the Athearn BN Exec Fs for 40, 2, soon to be 5 coaches for the ITM train, an older coach in thje George Washington, an Athearn 25th caboose, and an IHC Woodside Lumber Co caboose. Debated one of the Walthers Hiawatha Skytop, but I have an undec on order. We may be getting the painted one though also for Private Varnish.Will pick up tomorrow a Faller Interior kit for a switch tower.

Evening folks, just my usual java for me.
Well, it's the weekend, & like I said, I'd try to make it in here on them.
Been a chilly day here in Ohio-freeze warnings are out for tonight. Didn't really get any trainwork done today, as I worked this morning (& tomorrow morning) & this afternoon I got pictures of my old Dodge in preparation for it's Ebay ad, & then came home & typed up the ad. (that's all I'll say about it as I don't want to violate forum policy on advertising) but I don't suppose it'll hurt to show a current pic of the old girl taken today at my Mom & Dad's.
Mom's still doing ok-haven't heard when she'll be able to come home yet. Cape Jim, was it you who asked last weekend how my Dad was holding up? Well, ok-on the positive side he likes the peace & quiet of the "bachelor life" at home, & does for my Mom what & when he can, but on the down side, she has her difficult & irrational moments. That's hard to deal with, & I deal with it too as I've been making out her checks to pay bills, etc. & she can be very difficult with me when I can't find a bill she wants to pay, etc. I know she's frustrated that she can't do it herself, & understand. But she takes out her frustration on us, & it makes us feel bad. I've talked to several of my co-workers that have dealt with elderly parents in similar situations, & they've told me that it's quite common. I've tried to make her understand that we're doing for her the best way we know how, & hopefully she'll eventually understand. Sometimes I leave the hospital feeling angry, & feel like a complete you-know-what for feeling that way. I try to understand & be patient, but it gets difficult sometimes.
Well, on the lighter side, I posted this pic on Weekend Photo Fun, & will add it here for those who may miss it. Dawn & I were at the Cleveland Metro Park Zoo a few weeks ago, & the expression on these guys made me instantly want to get their pic, & the captions pretty much wrote theirselves in my head right then.
I've been playing in Paint lately anyways, working up paint schemes for the future model railroad (maybe I'll post a few next week) & decided to do the above. Silly, I know, but Dawn loved it.

Good morning.It's 55 and clear. A little on the nippy side for Louisiana. The high today will be in the mid 70's with abundant sunshine.I started in on more work on my coaling station yesterday. I've added some of the beams in the roof and started on cutting out the individual rusted metal sheets for the roof. If I have time today I'll get started on the rafters. What's going to be tricky is getting the right amount of sag in the rafters. Killing frost warning this morning. (I walked right up to the frost this morning and I’m still here).
Well I worked all day yesterday on the pending projects table here in my computer room. I converted couplers on 14 cars, decaled and weathered 5 MoW units, built 2 Athearn Auto carrier end loading box cars, 2 Bowser 70 ton 2 bay covered hoppers, painted 1 coat on 8 wood side reefers I’m customizing, painted the windows for the lumberyard, and started building a Branchline P&LE 40’ box car kit.
When I started my coupler swap project I dropped the old horn style couplers I removed from the cars into a 7 oz olive jar, well the jar is close to ¾ full now.
This week I plan on doing some bay sales, wish me luck.

I too woke up to some frost. Time to get the de-icer all together. Its also my last day, before I start my new job in the morning. Its a tire plant that works for Michelin retreading truck/car tires. Now I can finally get some money coming into the house. Maybe now I can start doing more with the layout.

We have company in town from Chicago area. This is a "best friend" who grew up with me and also has been a model railroader his entire life. He and his wife are staying at the nearby state resort park although we had asked them to staye here at the house.
Here's an update on the crime I had mentioned in a previous post. One of my friends here is a retired police officer, and he obtained information before the media did. Four family members were stabbed and their house was set on fire. Three children died a five year old boy and two teen age girls. The mother was found with a knife stuck in her neck and has been in ICU at the hospital ever since. State police handled the investigation with the sheriff, and they were assisted by ATF agents and the Army MP's from Fort Campbell close the crime scene. Later, a burned out Direct TV van was found with bloody clothing in it. The Direct TV installer was later arrested, and he confessed to the crimes. He had raped the mother and one of the girls. The motive was that he asked the mother on a date. When she refused he became enraged and committed the crimes. If convicted, he may get the death penalty.

Here's an update on the coaling station project. I've got some of the rafters in. After they've dried sufficiently they'll be painted a nice weathered gray.

Went to put the spade terminals on my buss lines for the layout earlier this afternoon, but they're not big enough inside for the 12 gauge wire. I'll have to try to find some different terminals for the wire this week, or else go to 14 gauge wire (which might fit into the terminals). Rats, foiled again!
Time for me to head for home. I'd like to work on a structure, since the wiring got the best of me for today. Want something for my MRR'ing time this weekend. Well, I did get a Roundhouse AAR 40' boxcar (NP, Sue ) at the LHS on Saturday for under 8 bucks. It looks pretty good, but too clean right now for my tastes.

Jim, He is getting closer, and yes, it is to the logging camp. He got the girders made and the bents to hold them. Isn't that life? Watching glue dry. The next stage will be to stain them, and glue them in place.
I spent the better part of the day working on my Walthers coaling tower. I had started it is April when I was sick, and lost interest. I am moving along again. It is probably too detailed for someone's first kit. But you know me, I realize that after it is too late.
PS. You knew that I would like the NP 40'.

I have no idea why I'm hitting the sack early, since I'm taking some vacation time this week. But Dawn's already in bed, so I might poke around on the comp a bit then hit it. Actually I'm waiting to see if a fellow posts on my weathering forum about ID of a covered hopper I had got a proto pic of.
Cape Jim, the auction will run for a week, starting tonight at 10. I really hope I can get it sold as it'll take a lot of $$$ pressure off of me. My only wish is that it was a rare big block or Hemi car, but then again, I wouldn't have been able to afford to buy it in the 1st place in 1986, as that's when the prices on those started to skyrocket.
I couldn't resist sharing that pic-I was tempted to label them from L-R; Tony, Mitch, Rex. (2 guys I railfan with-Tony's just completing his conductor training with CSX right now at Willard & working yard jobs)
I went to see Mom a few hours ago-she's ok & in good spirits this evening. I think (at least I hope) that she's realizing that I'll do what I can to help her, & giving me a difficult time isn't going to help things.
I also talked to a friend of mine's daughter online last night, who's in her 1st year of college. I told her about my Mom, & said she's going to try to stop in & see her. Her dad & I grew up down the street from each other, & her mom is an employee where I work. Her dad was nearby when we were talking, & he's going to try to stop by here sometime this week, as I haven't seen him in a year or 2. Upon reflection, it's by God's grace that this young lady is talking to me, as she has had the odds stacked against her terribly healthwise at a young age. About the age of 5 or 6, it was found she had a rare & virulent form of cancer, which somehow to the doctors' amazement, she beat, & has been in remission ever since. & if that wasn't bad enough, she had other health problems, including a vision problem that's left her blind in 1 eye. But she's done well in school, learned to drive, & now is college, & her goal is to become a special ed/special needs teacher. Her reasoning for that is she feels she can relate to them with all the health & physical problems she's dealt with. I give her a lot of respect & credit for that.

Here is one of the projects I completed today; this is the lumber yard I bought at the train show for under $20. I took it apart as much as possible, re-painted, and assembled and lettered it using my ALPS printer to make the water slide decals.

Jim, I’m still working on the (wood sided) refrigerator cars (7), I’m painting them with CSX yellow and it’s a very thin color. I’m using the American Foundry colors with the LS&W logo under the “lease to” herald. Dale is working on the same idea but he is doing 2 in the PFE orange leased to LS&W.
I’m a little miffed! I assembled the Branchline P&LE box car kit today and the roof was missing!!!!!!!! I’ll be calling LHS tomorrow.
Man, I LOVE THE FAIR!!! For me, the best part is the rides. I also spent $12 and got me two great little airsoft guns.

Actually, the story is that I was told wrong. The engine is in fact a Borsig, and possibly the largest Drawing Board loco never built. The fans are part of a Condenser. Steam was piped off the exhauset, run the length of the engine, and vented into the tender to be condensed back into water, since liquid water is a better coolant than air is. The fans on top are cooling fans that further help the process. Teh Borsig was never built, but similar cooling tenders had an economy rating of 85% more water and 15% more coal efficent than a typical steam locomotive. I've alsop read them as being compared mechaically to the heat tiles on the space3 shuttle
Evening Gang: The weekend at the Gaylord Texan was very nice. That place is huge. The atrium must cover 5 acres. They have 5 different G gauge train layouts, one was in the shape of a guitar. We had a really good breakfast this morning. Custom made omlets bacon, sausage, fruit, rolls, coffee, and orange juice. To top it off it was all you can eat. I did manage to control myself.
Robby those are really good looking trees. Tell you wife that she can do chain link fence for the whole crowd here. I likt the way it is kind of bent and used or damaged. That is a really great effect.
Ken it's good to see you back over on this side of the street. One of these days I'll go DCC also but first I need a layout that warrants it. I have three locomotives that have decorders and when I buy new ones I'm getting decorders in them.
Well it's getting late and I'm sore and tired.
