Building a protolanced industrial park layout
Good afternoon all.
Dreary rainy day here in central Illinois. (yes I say -noise. You don’t say Mi-i-ippi do you?) Had to tear myself away from the TV. Our Governor was arrested today. Big shock was they actually did it. What happens next we’ll see.
Thanks for the welcome and cookies everybody, delicious!
Thanks Jim, think I will take the cuppa joe and a piece of custard pie too please Zoe
Luke - sorry to hear about the horse. Much of my family and friends are horse people. I know well what they mean to the family.
Der5997 - I’m in HO land and used fine gravel but you’re right maybe I’m still using too large or something else makes it look…. well…. yucky. Gonna post the problem in landscape forum soon. Hope to get Ideas
Though Phillip, that link looked very promising. And it appears to be the color match too. No looking for colors I don’t know the name of. (another of my many probs).
Rob - I know what you mean. Mine worked fine but the wires were about a foot too short to reach. Must have been built for a closet.
Jeff - thanx to your post, I now know what “BUMP” means. (I’m new to any forum, I’ll catch on).
I also am freelancing, (and boy, I do mean freelancing), a fallen flag. The Texas & Pacific in modern day. I get squinty looks from some in the LHS from time to time informing me they don’t exist, but they’re pretty nice about it. Besides I don’t see them paying for anything

Hello everybody.
Todd ....Good to see you stopped in again. Feel free to tell more about your layout and model trains. I resided in Illinois for age 4 through age 18, and we lived very close to the good old CB&Q. My layout is a fictional dvision of the Burlington, but I include connecting roads such as NP, GN. ATSSF, and PRR. My era is 1950-1965. Also ,Todd, it is good you mentioned your governor with no political opinions, and you may have noticed we leave politics elsewhere to keep it friendly. You may already have noticed there are some Believers in the diner, and that can be comforting to each of us. Please keep posting, Todd!
Ryan ... Those cookies look terrific.
Speaking of ballast, my friend had his wife doing scenery for him. She thought kitty litter would make a good substitute. later, he wondered why the switch points were locked up. ........... Tthere is more to the story.....They have a cat, and .......... oh never mind.!!!.......(Der John thinks he has troubles; he should see this one!)
Happy Model Railroading!

Garry, I’m somewhat unique in that I have no real political opinion as relates to party. Just the person and what they do or do not do so it’s pretty easy to not get rapped up in the political mess. I do have an opinion on what I think needs to be done I just don’t express it in any old local. I’d rather leave than argue. Nothing gets accomplished. That’s why we vote. MHO.
I also noticed there are believers here. I too am one and am fairly active in my church. (We will leave the denomination out for now though it is a common one.) I noticed that offers of prayers are given and accepted well here and like our local gathering spot here in our town, no one gets upset as long as they don‘t get “preached” at. You are correct in that it does give a measure of comfort. I say that only to draw the similarities this diner has to the hometown feel of a real local spot which is also very nice to find in this giant world wide web.
Would love to tell more of my layout maybe ideas will flow, BUT I have a tendancy to ramble. I'm working on keeping things short. Besides I may need something to say later

Hey, I'm freelancing an RR that never existed, lol, that uses some locomotives that were scrapped, some that no longer exist in today's world, some industries that I'm sure you can find no prototype for, and basically almost all the tracks are freelanced. I can count on one hand the number of real-world facts that will show up on the layout, lol.
Good Evening Everybody,
Today was an okay day for me, at lunch, I was opening my milk and it shot out like a gyser all over my table, it only got on my leg.LOL They sent out our IPR's also, my worst grade was an 88.50 (B) in Language arts we are writing a total of 44 poems, don't worry, I don't have to do them all, I'm in a group of three other people. This sunday were hopefully going to State College. We don't have Birch plywood at our local Lowe's, and one of the helpful member's here told me Home Depot had Birch, so I'll see. Season's Greetings to all!

Hi, remember me? How about a can of pasta as an appetizer, I'll see about Dinner soon.
Lesson of the week. Life sucks.
I haven't been on much due to being busy and computer virues.
Swimming has started. We have a good, dedicted team this year. But the schools around us are still bigger, more muscular, and have a wider talent pool. Oh well. We aren't doing too badly.
Christmas party tomorrow for shorties in need. Ho Ho Ho.
Found out the car is dead too. I walk out of the pool, and find the battery is completely drained. Sorta like the Alternator is dead. (The alternator we replaced about this time last year) Towed it off, we'll see what the shop says.
Hi new people. I'm Flashwave, I'm modelin fictional Half Moon Orion and Northern, and connectors Northern Enterprises (shop switcher) and City of Half Moon Port Authority local shops, sorta based on the Madison Railroad and outying CSX main, with heavy "I don't care if the builings look nothing alike, it's the idea I want" Since I was last here, I've designed a 3.5 level layout. We'll see if it actually gets built. But it does EVERYTHING I want. no joke. The only issue is height clearences going down.
Here's some of my Christmas trains on the Naptown White River.
Week and a half til Christmas break!
Week til finals.
-Morgan
Ain't seen you in a while Flash.
Life don't suck for me right now (though it has at a few points this year). Got a bunch of friends, who cares about relationships, lol. I got me plenty o' time for that crud, lol.

That's why I always carry some nice things in the trunk. A spare alternater, spare belt, spare idler pully, spare water pump and the tools I'll need to work on them. I also carry three jacks, two spare tires and a tire repair kit.
Yeah I know the friends thing. Friends and a warm puppy. But shall we say, there are sme seniors I cant wait to see graduate. It's inteesting how similiar you and I, and Mark, and the other Diner teens are in our ways. People think I'm weird cause I haven't been on a date, or want to.
OH yeah, Christmas Concert is Sunday too. may see if we can video it for yas guys.
Evening All..Its cloudy and lite rain here this evening...I'll have a cup of Egg Nog and a couple of Ryan's christmas cookies please..Thank You...Not much railroading today did the rock carving on Hill I have been working on....You all have a good evening...Jerry
Hello,
Jim: They had it for about 4 years.
Just got back from taking pictures from the fire near my house. I'll post them soon.

Morgan; Audrey and I got a kick out of your 'Polar Express' train. We have something like a sleigh caboose kind of thing....
Well, we have pea soup fog here...look out the window can barely make out trees in front...
And so far I havn't seen anything(yet) get derailed by the new wye...
Anyhoooo...I'll be having some egg nog with a piece of that pumpkin cheesecake---please--as I do things backwards...

The weather here has done a complete section 8! It's one storm after another! It's let up for a while now but there's more on the way. Already the power has gone out three times and I lost count of how many times the cable internet has gone down. Seems like every time I look up the modem is going offline.
Jeffery that is one big system! Goes all the way from where you are up to where I am in NY. We are supposed to get get some heavy rain tonight but not anything really severe. Hope you safe where you are as they are predicting tornatos in North East Louisiana tonight.
Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Luke; How close is that to where you are?
Jeffery; take care.

Hey, I didn't say that I didn't WANT to lol, but it just ain't worth it, for the most part. I'm guessing those seniors are on the swim team and are complete jerks, right? I'm guessing it'll be like that next year in football, but they'll be guys who are the step above freshman (whatever that is), cause it'll be JV. I know guys about two years ahead of me though, so it kinda balances out, lol.
I'm looking forward to Winter Jam this year, apparently Toby Mac is going to be in it (last time I went to Winter Jam when he was in it, they rocked the roof off). Hoping Pillar might be coming too, that'd be AWESOME, lol.
EDIT: Oh, and guess which idiot re-wrote his RR's history for the 4th or 5th time, but forgot where he put the dern paper, so now he has to re-type it again from memory *ugh*. Starting to get a bit annoying, lol.
Sawyer; I did that twice in university--both times major term papers and both due the same week.
Nothing can be more frustrating...
Decafin a SOUTHERN mug, please & thanks.
***Luke, hope that fire is heading away from you.
Contractor & crew never showed today. Said they will be here first thing tomorrow morning.
Put hay out for all (most under sheds) so I won't have to do much tomorrow. Expecting a LOT of rain beginning sometime tonight through tomorrow night. Probably same storm as Jeffrey. Conditions here favor just rain, no severe stuff. Wind has picked up.
Wife wants a complete town with large lumber mill on her layout...and don't forget her big circus/carnival & mountain scenes.. I see her layout taking over the entire room with every new "I want this on my layout" from her.
All for now. Rob ps: the rain has begun
My railroad is a fallen flag as well: LS&MS, Lake Shore and Michigan Southern were bought out by NYC in 1914. I changed the name to the LS&W (Lake Shore and Western). The initials also match me and my kids: Lee, Samantha, and William.
It’s 50F outside right now and raining, just enough good weather to make everything snow free and extra muddy. Things will get better by lunchtime tomorrow; the high will be 36F with rain changing to snow; once I get to work I might as well lock in the 4-wheel drive since everything will be a skating rink on the drive home.
Stopped at LHS last night and picked up 2 more brick street systems, 2 packs of 1950’s advertisements (marine and Feed store adds). The decals look nice, 54 advertisements for $3.54.

Rob; If you have to; sneek some of your ideas/stuff onto her setup do so. That way one can say something about 'sharing the space'. Heeheehee
As for the rain we now have slush and big lakes---tomorrow comes ice and slop...
Rob,
Is there anyway to convert her to N-Scale or you to HO-Scale? Things might go better for you guys and you would have an excusse to spend more on trains.
I've seen the Walther's lumbermill completly assembleded. It's a big kit. You may need an extension on the house, or add a basement.
Sawyer,
Stop by my website and read mine. I passed my rough draft around the diner and was given a ton of good suggestions.
Morgan, love the Christmas train pictures.
Good evening, All. Chloe, I would like a Root Beer Float, please. I will sit for a while to see if anyone shows up.
Todd, Welcome to the diner.
I may work on some photos of the riverbed.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Evening, Chloe - I'll have a cup of decaf in a Rio Grande mug, please, and one of those cookies please. Ray did WHAT? Oh, you made some more; okay, I forgive him. Oooh... these taste even better than the morning ones did - Thanks!
Packers#1 If I have caffiene after about 3pm, I'm up till midnight, at least.
Careful, Sawyer - you're almost beginning to sound like you're turning into an ORF there! Ah, midterms... My condolences about losing track of your RR's history. I'll have to see about writing my RR's history down sometime, real soon now...
Jeff, looks like your local Mounties are ready for Ezra.
Todd - our LHS owner (also a member of our MRR club) would be proud of you. He's big on the SP, Cotton Belt, and such others as are now within the UP fold. My CAW (Colorado Arizona and Western) is a fictional bridge line between the D&RGW - around Farmington, NM - and the ATSF in Holbrook, AZ, kinda through the Four Corners area of the Southwest (in the transition years, 1950's). Hey, it's my layout and I'll do as I please - don't be giving me those squinty looks there... Todd, stick around and we'll teach you all the Diner lingo!
Morgan (Flashwave), love your pics of the Polar Express (especially the 'Deer Dorm'). Bummer about your battery - hope they can find out what caused that (and not at too much cost to you, either).
B-C, good to hear the wye's holding up fine so far (crossing my fingers...). Is it with regular switches, or with an actual wye switch (or 2 or 3 of them)?
Luke, that's kind of close for that fire. Three miles doesn't seem like quite enough distance for me. Was that a very big fire?
Saw that about Illinois' governor on the news today, and was wondering when they'll get a fairly decent (honest) one in office. You all deserve better than that. [rant over]
Rob, maybe you should have the wife draw a 'rough design' for her layout, with all the stuff she wants in it. Might begin to give her an idea of the problem with fitting everything into that space, before she commandeers the whole house...
Lee, whose ads did you get? I've got some of the AIM ones ("Faded Glory" series), which look really nice (haven't put them on buildings just yet, though), and have some of the Woodland Scenics dry transfer ads/signs, too.
Everybody stay dry and warm tonight, as this front creeps eastward (and mostly up the Ohio River valley, from the looks of the radar this morning). Prayers for those ailing, needing sleep, and in need of comfort tonight.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
