That's what I get for buying a diesel I didn't need. Had to dig out a transformer and some test track to try it out. In reverse it makes chirping noises? If this is a "new" Atlas loco, then I have changed my mind about their products and will stick with other brands. It "chirps" when it runs in revers at medium-slow to medium speeds. Real slow and real fast I don't hear it. Any thoughts/suggestions?
Our contractor seems to think that "sealing" the tiles is something we should do (at our expense) after he is done??? As I understand it (from talking with tile guys), outdoor tiles require sealing or you run the risk of them coming up and/or cracking. If so, then it seems to me this should be HIS responsibillity.

John, once the ballast dried did you run a shop-vac over the rails? After I scenic an area I always scrub the area with a stiff brush and run the shop-vac over the entire area.
Jim, I’ve only had small handful of problems, those were during the first gulf war. Matter of fact it got so bad my unit would not allow us to leave the base in uniform.
Blownout: you had 40 people over??? I don’t think I even know that many people, LOL. You should have put them all to work on the layout, LOL.
Ray, some of the wheels out here are a bright rusty red. I think it’s due to the high amounts of Taconite, salt and coal that we move. Not to mention at any given time there are 10,000 too many sea gulls at the rail yards and docks.

I read it in Jr high and I can still remember most of the book (scary I can remember the story line, but can’t find my car keys).

Rob, you can do it cheaper and better that the installer. I went through this before.

Good morning. It's 42 and partly cloudy. The high should be in the mid 60's and it will still be partly cloudy. Didn't do much yesterday. I repainted my old Walther's Midtown Consolidators shipping building. It is now white brick with green window frames and has a couple of 'broken' windows. I also moved a colonial style house from the spot it has occupied for the last 6 years and placed a small Cape Cod style house there. It looks better in the small space. The colonial has been relocated to the larger spot the Cape Cod was moved from. I also applied L&A decals to some rolling stock and one of my 250 ton cranes as well as a truck trailer. Rob, Sealing the tile helps prevent stain and mold from seeping into the grout. If you are good at following through, you can easily do it.

I have some stuff that needs to be done today including shopping for supplies for Christmas cookies, baking some of those cookies (don't worry. I will share), starting to work on my Christmas card this year, printing out photos of my granddaughter to put in the cards, and a whole lot of stuff like that.
I am expecting UPS to deliver some new CFL Full spectrum light for the layout and some LED lights for the electric candles I put up in my windows for Advent and Christmas. The LEDs will cut electric use for them from 325 watts to 7.8 watts. I figure they will pay for themselves in 60 or 70 years................

Lee..........I agree with you on your advice to Rob on sealing tiles. It's really not a hard job to do baased on my experience with it. Rob should make sure he gets a good qualty sealer.

Der John....When I use a Walthers Bright Boy, I don't have problems with scratches on rails. Rail Zip is good as noted before, but I don't know how effective it would be with heavy residue.
Jerry ... It sounds like you will be operating a large piggyback business on your layout.

Just played catch em' ups from page 96 or something like that and now time to make my mark too.
Der John - Salt in the air and high humidity may be the issue. A de-humidifier might help with drawing some of the moisture from the ambient air. I used to run two of them in our house in New Orleans, because the house was always 100% humidity and condensation would settle inside the kitchen cabinets. And what you said about the ballasting and painting is most likely another big point too. The adhesives and paint from weathering and ballasting track are a big culprit with getting hindering electrical contact between the tracks and metal pick-up wheel sets.

I worked on my layout backdrop last night painting in some mountain ranges from techniques described in the Painting Backdrops "How-To" guide. The paint was still wet last night so no photos taken yet, but will try to take some tonight and post them soon.

Yes,,,,,,, And your point is?????? But I promise that any cookies I actually eat will be eaten standing up. That way it doesn't count you know. She is trying to write a family history[hers] they came out here in 1834, a lot of portland and troutdale used to belong to her family, now only this place and a few houses in portland and troutdale. I just got back from work with a few 'Railroad Magazine' issues from 1947/1948. Quite a few of these have scratchbuilding articles in them. Don't be surprised if I throw odd bits in here from these mags.
