Galaxy I was in my first teaching job in the Southern Tier of NY during the 70s Oil Embargo and remember it too well.  Our school had a few "Cold" days and then moved the intermediate school students into the Jr. - Sr. High school for several days.  What a mess that was!  Especially for a music teacher - no books or other materials, no piano, and classes scheduled all over the place.  Just me and my guitar!  Kids thought it was a blast.  We lived in a Mobile Home (high class trailer......Wink) that was easy to heat.  We still kept the heat in the mid 60s at home.  Tough with two small children.

Really? where? Near Binghamton? Near Elmira?

LOL the {trailer} house we live in now is, of course, also high class! ....lol with just enough room for 3.5 x 5 ' HO layout Wink In the 70's I  lived in a regular ranch house with large basement. If only it wasn't so full of stuff, and 10 miles away, I could turn the old O/O27 4x8x12 layout from my childhood at my fathers basement into a nice HO layout. But, alas,....

Ryan, enjoyed your GSMRR blog (and all the pics. Those GP9's (low or high nose) keep on going, don't they? Yeah!! Did Ben enjoy himself a lot on that?

RYAN: Thanks for checking them out Jim, and glad that you liked em! Ben seemed to have a good time, we were laughing and talking most of the time. At the NOC stop 1/2 way through the run we were skimming stones from the bank of the river, we both enjoyed doing that together.I still need to upload some video action from the trip, might post that up by tomorrow. Here is another photo from the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad as the GP9 leads the train around the bend following the Nantahala River.

 GSMRR Rounding the Bend

I just got in the mail the Painting Backdrops book by MR and the Multi-Level book too, just started reading up on the Backdrop book. Now I have some things to change on mine! Banged Head

I've been kinda quiet around here lately about dealing with Monique's health. Just asking for your thoughts and prayers to continue for her health problems to get better. She has had a CT scan and two ultrasounds and between the OBGYN, which ruled out any reproductive organ issues, and the GP with the diverticulitis she is now seeing a GI specialist to determine what is causing all the pain on her left side. Another ultrasound is scheduled for Tuesday. It has been a month now with this recurring pain on the left side.

Thoughts and prayers continue for everyone who is in need, health and recovery!

The eye exam went OK. My vision is a bit fuzzy right now and I'm having some difficulty reading the text on the screen. I would go to a larger text but I can't read the drop down menu. lol. The kicker of all this is I have to go to Alexandria on the 10th and have my eyes dilated again so they can look for ruptured blood vessels due to diabetes. I hope it's a very cloudy day on that 60 mile drive back home.

Afternoon All

Jeff

Glad your getting you eyes checked Sad you had to loose your glasses though

Ryan thanks for posting the picture sure is a beauitful shot

I just finished building a City Classics Kit of a Railroad Street company house

It was a fun kit for about $18

It can be configured several ways

with or without the side addition  and the small adition can also be placed on the back of the house

my only negitive is that they only give you 2 sets of stairs

I haven't fastened the addition to the sideas you can see from the large gap

i just placed it there so you could get the idea

All in All a nice kit

Afternoon ladies and germs. We had to take this thing called a MAP test today, which basically measures how much you're progressing in school or something, I forget, but anyways, the career counselor was running it, and for reading after the test, I brought my MR issue. And guess what? He's planning some extra little classes or something, I forget what exactly, and he was considering maybe doing model railroading, and so I might get too teach something for it (or help an adult, IDK). So I probably will, if a few things fall into place.

Good afternoon.  I will have a RBF please.  The ladies just left, and yes, I was asked to exercise the locos.  The F7's were a hit.   I think the 40+ cars added to that.  One of the gals is a rafter and she thought that the riverbed has  potiential.

Terry,  I love that tree.  What did you use for the trunk?

Evening Gang!

Flo - Just a glass of water w/ lime in it, please? Thanks!

J.R. and Ray - FGLK has some real friendly employees too. About 5 1/2 yrs ago, I was at one of the LHS' here near me and on my way back home, decided I'd do some railfanning around a company called Solvay Paperboard (in the village of Solvay at that). While I was driving on the service road at the plant, the FGLK crew was waiting for the plant guys to finish loading a car (not sure what with). I was talking to the engineer when the conductor came over and told him the plant was ready for them to switch some cars around. They then proceeded to ask me if I wanted to join them while they did that. I did, and was onboard for a little over a hour while they did switching there. Talk about being on 'cloud 9' what a fun time I had w/ them!

Well gang, time for me to check in on the up and coming CFO - Julie. She was a little under the weather when I last spoke with her about 2 hours ago.

Take care!

Conversation today driving back from Lowes...

Wife: "I want a model of the Ice Train."

Me: "How would that work on your steam era layout?"

Wife: "I rode the Ice Train in Europe and I want one on my layout. On my layout, I am God and If anyone asks, I'll say it's running on a parallel universe."

Me: "Whatever you want to do dear."

So guys, the cheapest price I have found thus far for a ICE/Bullet train (just the powered A & dummy B unit with one car) is around $60. Anyone know where I might find one cheaper?

Got another fan up today, not much else.

Hello everyone...

Looks like we get to scroll back and forth to read the posts again.

WOW!  PPC is "berried" in that pie! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Ryan.  I'm sad to learn about Monique's health issues. Prayers for her. thanks for posting the excusrian train photos; they were enjoyable. Your avatar is an improvement over the ski goggle avatar you used several months ago!

Rob....... Hopefully the new meds control the insomnia. Zzz Perhaps, completion of the house will help, too. I'm sure that's a worry.

Robby .... That's an outstanding weathering job on that Railbox car.

Sue ... I'm glad teh guests enjoyed the layout. Hopefully the model railroad gremlins were absent.

I'm continuing my layout expasnion. Eventually it will include the city of Heartland. I am reading about streetcars because I want to include some of those. The Bachmann Peter Witt trolly sounds like a good product. Also, both Bowser and Con Cor say they will release all new PCC streetcars soon. I have looked at many old color pictures of trolleys, and there were many colorful ones in their day. There were a lot of different designs of street cars, too.

Well, it is dinner time.  I made a big pot of oxtail soup.  Would anyone like some?  If someone makes fresh cornbread,  we will have a meal.

Terry,  I wondered if it was sage brush.  Did you have to stain it or is it actually that color.

Garry,  No gremlins. Everything ran smoothly.  The thought of using computer software to plan a layout just blows people away.  And of course, the main question,"When will you have it finished?"  My response of course was, "Never."

I am looking forward to finishing the riverbottom this weekend.  Larry won't be home until late Saturday.  We always backseat drive each others projects.  Two heads are better than one.  They sent him up to Prince George, and then 100 miles west.  He will reload tomorrow morning in Prince George.  He said that a blizzard is coming.  Sounds cold to me.

Good Evening Diners!

Another frosty evening in Winterpeg- about 3F but as we like to say here, it's a dry cold. Lot of difference that makes!

Ryan, sorry to hear that the docs haven't found out the cause of Monique's pain. I can appreciate your worry and hope she is better soon.

Jim, as to the cause of the fog on your windshield in the morning, I get the same thing when it is damp and around freezing. I think it's caused by the slightly warm air from the heater hitting cold glass which then fogs. If the car is really warm then the air is hot enough to clear it. I've had the same issue since my car was new 9 years ago and there isn't anything wrong with it. Actually my car runs best when it is about 0F. The suspension tightens up nicely, the few squeaks and rattles disappear and it does have a great heater. I guess the Swedes ought to know how to build a car for the cold.

As to the RR, I am still plugging away at the ballast in the yard but need a few more ground throws and indeed more ballast to finish. The yard started out with 4 sidings but now has 8. I like to think I did it in a prototypical fashion as I just added them as needed and space permitted, not to a track plan. I haven't run the trains much for the past 4 months as the sound still bothers my wife as she can't help but think of her Dad's little layout even though she never saw it run and indeed he didn't have sound locos. I like to use the horn/whistle which is a lot on a 4x8 with 2 level crossings so I try to only run it when she is out.

Speaking of my wife, she really had a bad bout of food poisoning or some type of bug yesterday evening. Today she has just slept and is very weak. If still that way tomorrow I think a trip to the doc will be in order.

I think I'd like a nice cuppa, tea that is and a buttered scone please Chloe. Join me in the back booth if you have the time.

Good evening guys and gals.

Cold one tonight.  Calling for a 30% chance of snow showers tonight and the same tomorrow.  Saturday will be 1-2 inchs.

Thanks for the comment on the Railbox.  Working just doesn't give me the time like I use to have.  Its selling right now for $50, and I hope It goes for more Mischief

I am wanting to really work on the layout some more Saturday.  I will try to get some shots of what I have done this weekend (WPF).

I probably won't get on tomorrow, so everybody have a goodnight, and a good day tomorrow.

Now all I need is a source of sage brush.  Probably on the east side of the state.

Larry is always getting safety bonuses from his company.  I am more concerned that he will be too cold.  His company's idea of saving fuel, is to set the truck so it will only  idle for 5 minutes.  The only way to keep it running is to tap the throttle before it shuts off.
After this trip, I suspect that heads might roll.

Evenin' folks!

Actually managed to get some work done on the layout today.  I repaired a turnout throw that was binding and got that working properly and then added labels to the toggles on the fascia board around the layout identifying what each one does.

Started to get my projects together for the Modeler's Corner at the RIT Show this weekend.  I plan on assembling a couple of Accurail kits and decaling them for the SLOW as well as finishing some work on an old Overton car that will become the freight house at the team track.

Good morning.

It's 34 and clear. High today should be around 50 and it will be partly cloudy.

The eye exam yesterday went well. Now that I have my prescription I'll be shopping around for the cheapest prices on new glasses made to my specifications. Didn't get anything done on the layout yesterday, mainly because I couldn't see much. When I went to bed last night my eyes were still dilated. They look pretty much normal now though. So far this coming Wednesday (10th) is looking like mostly cloudy with rain.

Good Morning all,

COLD outside, high today of 27F and a low of 19F.  Snow off and on, but the weather guessers say Sunday we will get hit with some real Lake Effect snow.

Jeff, I hope you get some usable reading glasses to hold you over until you fill that RX.  I think I startled the LHS last Monday I walked in right after the eye doctor appointment and they said my eyes were so dilated they looked like black sockets.

No MRing recently; Dorothy accidentally needed me in the side the other night while she was sleeping.  Doc said she did a good job, right between the #4 and #6 abnormal muscles (they move every time you breathe so no rest for them to heal quickly).

Nice looking RailBox

Way ahead of you. I got a pair of Wal-Mart bifocal reading glasses a couple of days ago, not that they did me any good yesterday. I couldn't focus on anything while my eyes were dilated. They looked like a couple of deep black holes.

'81. Elem. and Jr High music teachers would have been Mr. Arthur Pare, Mr. George Houck, and Mr Joe Bloomer. I am NOT, however, rather musically inclined. My voice would scare away squirrels, and I can't keep more than one beat or rhythm at a time - always wanted to be able to play piano, for instance, but sooner or later both hands will be doing exactly the same thing. I got my music credits for graduation and thats about it.

Today is a whole 24*, but warmer now than tomorrow is supposed to be. Supposed to be teens then. It IS December. I hates winter, I tells ya, I hates it.

Jeffrey soulds a bit chilly where you are. Hope you get your new glasses worked out. I need new glasses about every 6 months so I get tehm as cheap as I can at Sam's club. I keep reusing old frames until they wear out, but last frames at Sam's were only $47.00. Doesn't help I know if you lost or damaged them. Too bad,  maybe, the guys at the fire hall couldn't take up a mini collection for you?

Hope everyone has a swell day!
