Best running HO locomotive

  Out of all my locomotives i have to say that my Athearn GP-9 runs the best. All my athearn and atlas locos do very well. i also have a couple of athearn genesis that run well and a couple of bachmann spectrums that also perform well. The only locomotives that give me the worst trouble so far, have been of course Tyco but that was years ago, and Life-like's Proto 1000 series...chuck

 

Chuck,I have a old Athearn GP7 that will creep from tie to tie and its roughly 33 years old!

The majority of today's locomotives are smooth runners and the age old question of "Best running HO locomotive" is basically outdated...ALL  manufacturers can produce a lemon or have some bad ones to slip by QC..There is NO exceptions to that rule.

Depends on what dollar amount you are looking to spend.

I'm looking for everyones opinion on what the best running HO diesel locomotive might be.

I'm not looking for a highly detailed locomotive (but i'm not anti-detail)

I just want to know what loco out there that people have that runs the best.

diesel only please and I'm running DC on my layout (ATM) if that makes a difference.
