Well, all I need is what ever you have thats 100 proof for me thanks!!!!!!!

Thats been my day so far.  The back porch is on some center blocks, and the one side is starting to lean.  OH GREAT!!!!  So......I thought later this week to reinforce with some 4x4 and cement them into the ground for now.  That should work.  Next the basement has a bathroom, and I took a pit stop.  Hit the light switch and BAM, a fire ball out of the light box.  Now its not a finished basement, and it will be a easy fix.  The bad thing is, half of the basement has no power(work bench, radio outlets) so far.  I guess its time to call the father in law.  Looks like a breaker is bad now.  Won't switch over.  I have some electrical exp, but not enough.  Now, hes a electrical engineer.   Hopefully he can make it this weekend.  I have some trains to weather, and I just don't feel like running drop cords.

I think I will hear it from the wife later.  We just don't have any goodluck at all.   Sigh [sigh]

Hello all.

Have not visited the old diner in a while, so I thought I'd let you know that the rumours of my death have been highly exaggerated and I'm still living...

Gloria has had a scope done on her knee way back in July with the results showing that her right knee is basically bone-on-bone.  The surgeon wants to see if she can get along like this.  The answer to that is a simple NO.  Currently her knee and everything below it has swollen to 3 times normal size and she can hardly walk.  Much of my free time has been spent looking after her.  Ebony, the cat, keeps her company when I'm at work.

One of my nephew, Jimmy, was severely hurt in Afghanistan by an attack from the taliban who blew up a tank in front of his then proceeded to fire Armour piercing ammunitions on the other ones.  Three of our brave Canadian heroes died that day.

So needless to say not much work has been done with Gloetown.  The table is full of things that should not be there, to the purists in our hobby, this would be consider 'sacrilegious'.

Gloria and I thank you so much for your prayers, we both know that many have and continue to pray for us.

I have missed a lot on here, birthdays, anniversaries and the not so happy moments of our lifes, I keep wondering how our great founder Elliott is doing.

And life goes on...

Happy MRRing Luc http://www.freewebs.com/gloetown/ If you can't be behind our troups, feel free to stand in front of them.

Mowed the grass this morning then helped my father move half of that willow tree. The pieces were cut 12 to 14 inches long but they're still really heavy. We were using a dump bed trailer to move them. He'd roll the section up into the lowered bed and I'd push the front of the bed down and lock it then drive the tractor over to the edge of a marsh area not very far away and he'd roll the section out. We kept that up until all the pieces that have been cut were moved. About half the tree is still there but the bridge is clear. It has some damage underneath, Two 2x8 cross members were torn loose and a 2x6 cross brace was pulled loose. That part of the deck is down about 6 inches. Fixing it is gonna be a royal pain in the butt because it's all out over the water! The 4x6 runners holding the deck have to be jacked up into position before the cross members can be raised back to where they need to be. That gets real interesting when you're working from a boat.

Afternoon guys.

Well I worked again today. My only MRR related plans are to install a decoder into a GP7, and finish up that caboose. I managed to get someone to work for me on saturday, so Hopefully I can make it to the Dothan train show.

Last night I went to the local MR club. Ran my 2 SD45s as a pair, made it up the helix with 50 actual cars. But the clubs cars don't roll well and are too heavy, so it's closer to 100 something cars. Now I wait for athearns F45s in BN to MU 2 F45s to my SD45s. Probably could pull every club car with that set up.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Also, a club member knocked over one of my SD45s, and it hit the floor. Luckily it was in it's box, and the horn was the only thing to to come off. So now I need 2 Leslie S3K horns. (one for one of my U28Bs, and one for that SD45). I also took a spin with my U28Bs after I parked my big train led by the pair of SD45s. I maganed to have a cornfield meet, with myself Laugh [(-D]. Not just once, but twice. After that I took my Gp9s for a spin, just did a little bit of switching, then tested 2 of my GP30s. One needs new axles... I left after that becuase it was 9, and I had to be at work by 6.

So I have a fairly large list of stuff to get and do.

Do: Finish caboose, install decoder in PRR GP7, take off the drop steps on my U-boats, secure buehler motor to my athearn Gp35 frame (I did the milling the other day)

To buy: 2 Leslie S3K horns, coupler boxes for my U28B (had the kadee box in it), motor and flywheel for P2K SD9, worms, worm bearing and the worm socket from an athearn with the hex drive, and some driveshafts with the ball and two nubs.

Waiting on: Decoders for my C425s, and my dad's work to get it's media blaster (In october). I searched, and the media blaster is supposed to be the best way to remove the paint on a Kato.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hi Guys!

Packer: I read somewhere that Kato paint is pretty thin, and that applying a base coat of gray, then the color you are painting right over the original paint doesn't hide any details.

Garry: I guess Montreal is a nice city! I haven't lived anywhere else, and it's #1 on Monopoly, that must mean something! Tongue [:P]

Forgot to add:

Bill Tidler Jr: I haven't read or been a part of Elliot's for very long, but is there a reason for changing the Subject name to the date? Honestly, I find it annoying, because I end up getting 3 separate emails for what is "essentially" the same post.

1. Some with yesterday's date, posts posted yesterday;
2. Some with today's date, posts posted today;
3. Some marked just Elliot's Trackside Diner V, at the Diamonds

Could/should we decide on a single title that we would always use? Just my 2 cents.

Nah, cause you'll just get swamped with e-mails anyway. Some of the posters find it useful to know which post was day. These are people we call organized, and are an endangered species.

Also, you'll get some that will say Trackside Diner, And some that will say Elliot's Trackside Diner. None of the rest of it. The best thing to do is to find the earliest post that's either a date or says it's the diner, click on it, go to last page, and backtrack a page or two until you get to the page with the first new post. It will automatically take you to that post once your on that page. Then just read the new posts from there. When you've checked all the posts, go back and highlight all the e-mails, and tell them they've been read. or delete them. Either way, they don;t get cumbersome.

Sounds like a lot of sad news in the Diner. Healing thoughts to all those in need.

Today I counted the rings of the fallen willow tree in my parents back yard. That tree had been there since 1941, meaning it was 22 years old when the oldest part of the house was built in '63.

JEFF: My guess on your Willow tree wasn't far off, I thought it was around 60-70 years old, 57 by your ring count.

JERRY: Those are tooth picks for tree trunks ??? They look fat, or is that the photo doing that? The trees look stunning!! GREAT job Jerry !!! How did you make them Jerry? Give us a Jeffrey step by step please.

LUC: That is a doggone shame that poor Gloria has to suffer because the Doctor wants to se if she can "get by". Is he NUTS, or is this an example of Canadian Socialized medicine coverage...aka Contain the cost? We have kept Gloria in our prayers as well as you Luc....we miss you in the Diner.

Evenin', Chloe - if I didn't get in tonight and get some posts read, I'd be buried by morning, I fear... Oh, I'll have a hot fudge sundae

and a cup of coffee, please. Thank you,ma'am.

Gav, first off - that building looks quite excellent. Thumbs Up [tup] Then, I'd worry about going to a place that was named 'Vodka Revolution'...Shock [:O] So how much damage do the li'l cherubs do when all of them are there and they head for the VR on the same night? Or do you call out a contingent of the Royal Marines for that?Wink [;)]

Tom, good to hear of Lowell's progress (even if he is eyeing the neighbor's pet calf lately...Whistling [:-^]) Hey, why worry about the state song and critters are ...unbearable...? You have the state flower to help everyone deal with all that stuff.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] (That is funny, though Laugh [(-D]) I thought that Preiser did used to have a mountain lion (of course, I get those confused with pumas and other such cats, so I could be wrong on that). Just looked on Walthers' and Roco's sites, and no luck there, so I guess not. Maybe you could get an African lion like one of the females in this set:  http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/590-20379 and modify it to look more like a 'healthy' mountain lion?

RT, how's the command control coming along? Got it all figured out by now? That does sound neat that it has all those features on them. Yeah!! [yeah]

DerJohn, you very much lucked out on the license plate (on several counts there) - whew! On your 'apron' or dock, I just meant comparatively quick, as on our old layout, one of our members did - if I recall correctly - three different coats of (I think) mudding compound to get the transmodal area smooth enough. Myself, I'd likely go with plastic sheets for a simpler approach. Heck, in iNvisible scale, 45" would be almost enough for 10 cars and a hood unit diesel!Wink [;)] Okay, six or eight and a steam switcher, perhaps...

TrainsRMe - that sounds like a good plan (for your layout, and for 'hooking' all the neighbors on MRR'ing with it and op sessions, too. The more MRR'ers, the merrier!

Rob, I'm hoping that mountain lion you had 'hands-on' with was tranquilized; I wouldn't want to wrastle one of them cats! How's your wife's shoulder doing? Did you get her to the Dr. (kicking and screaming or willingly)?

Dick, my building never did (that I can tell) lose power, and we're too far from the river for flooding here. Yesterday they closed the floodgates at the river wall, since the Muddy Mississippi has been rising lately due to all the St. Louis area rain that's working its way down here. Careful, you'll have the toothpicks mad at you for saying they look fat...Wink [;)] That was something with how you hurt yourself 'Paratrooper style'. Shock [:O]

Today at work, our superviser turned 50, and they did her up right - black balloons, hanging bat from her ceiling, and they brought up the wheelchair (manual one) from downstairs and put it in place of her desk chair. I had fun telling her she looked good sitting in that chair. I got an "I don't want you getting used to seeing me like this" from her on that one. Wink [;)] At the end of the day, she immediately took it to the elevator to put it back downstairs...

Garry - one word: Grrrooooaaannnn!!!

Jeff, at least with all that wood from the willow tree, when you get done, both you and your folks should have plenty of wood for the winter (if you both have fireplaces or woodstoves). That hopper by the side of the tracks is a good idea - I saw a while back where someone took an old Geep shell and buried it halfway in a river bed as if it was sunk into the mud. I still want to get a shell and do that somewhere on my layout, or have some car at the bottom of a downhill curve, like one (or more) car(s) didn't make the turn.Yeah!! [yeah] Thanks for the tip on the grade crossing and on the gravel roads. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey, PC and Lee, we've been having lows in the 50's and a night or two already in the 40's lately. Of course, it warms up to the mid-70's of lower 80's (F) by the afternoon, so so long as I wear a jacket in the morning it's not too bad. I just have been using an old t-shirt to wipe all the dew off the windows and windshields in the morning when I go out. Beats scraping frost in a few months...Whistling [:-^]

Ryan, sorry to hear about Eric's mother. That's got to be so hard for him (and the rest of the family). Prayers for Eric and the family.  My compliments on your wife - how'd you snag her?

Jerry, those trees look great - you're like the AggroJones of N scale on trees! Bow [bow]

Robby P., Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Diner - all I can say is, the rest of your week HAS to be better, after a start like today! If you need a designated driver to get home from the Diner tonight, we'll get you one. Of course, you're on your own with the little woman when you get to your place, but... Wink [;)]

Luc, sorry to hear about Gloria's ailments, but as for the layout table, I know mine has had various things put on it other than just MRR things, so that's not verbotten... Give Gloria a hug from us, and fill us in on whatever the doctor really starts to do to help her. And if the Dr. doesn't come up with something better for her, it might be time for a new one. Prayers **will** continue, of course.Thumbs Up [tup]

See, Luc can tell the difference - maybe we can get Luc a job at Preiser or WS, helping them identify animals?

Hello everybody.  It's RBF time for me.

JR ... Best wishes at Elkhardt Lake!

Jeff.... I like the gravel road!

Ryan ...That's a very sad story about the fatal accident. Sorry to learn about it. At the train show, did you buy anything from my friend from Paducah. ?

Dick. ... Wow, it's been 15 years since your ladder accident, and you still climb ladders. You mentioned all those young people in the family. Maybe next time one of them can handle the work.

Jerry ... thanks for showing the trees. Terrific!. have you heard from Inch lately?

Paul .... I read your account about livestock being killed by some bad guys. Hope the sheriff locates them soon.

Luc .... It's present surprise to see you posting again. I'm very sorry to learn about Gloria's knee problems. Now, what's the story with that funny looking woodchuck?

JimCG ..... You are a groan man for sure. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Lee... Thanks for the remark. I'm still fixing up the old train stuff for those boys.

Everyone:   keep it quite, please. Duke's still sleeping. Rip Van Winkle will be proud of Duke! Zzz [zzz]

Jim, Fall fell about a week ago up here,  north of me in the upper Great Lakes I hear the trees have already changed colors.  The high for Thursday will be 64F and the low will be 46F.

LEE: Now I know why I have seeing all these Canadian Geese headed South. We are due to go into the 30" here Friday night, some trees are red already here also, I guess the Farmer's Almanac was right.

GARRY: The three sons are all working all day, so is my daughter, these jobs can't wait for the weekend. As the old saying goes, you get hurt falling off the horse, you get right back up on it. It was a preventable accident as all accidents are. I should never have placed the ladder on a wood deck that had been water sealed that Fall. I figured that the rubber feet on the ladder would grip...WRONG !!

LUC: As you have already read, the Beaver/Squirrel thing is a joke. I am trying to find an HO scale beaver gnawing on a tree stump or similar. The lady tried to tell me that what she had looked like a Beaver, but it was a Squirrel. LOL

JIM: Glad to hear that your area was OK, no one needs that mess to deal with.

Later guys, more "ladder" work tomorrow.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Another tall glass of lemon water, please.

Woke up with that dizziness thing today. Could barely walk in a strait line and felt sick to my stomach. Most likely an inner ear problem, as blood pressure was quite alright. Going to see the Doc next week for a battery of blood tests, according to the wife. Guess I'll go this time.Mischief [:-,]

Wife's shoulder is about the same. She is wearing a sling until her appointment with the surgeon.

Waiting for that well known hardware store to lower prices (5% to 50%) so we can pick up the rest of the fans, sinks, etc for the build, and save some more cash. Did get the ceiling fan boxes to put where we want them. Builder still hasn't been back yet and the wife is getting impatient.

Also got the rest of the planks for the deep end of the deck. If my dizziness is gone by morning, I'll get back to work on it tomorrow. Today it was challenging enough just to clean the barn.

Have a good night all. Dead [xx(] Rob

JEFF: My guess on your Willow tree wasn't far off, I thought it was around 60-70 years old, 57 by your ring count.

Jeff, at least with all that wood from the willow tree, when you get done, both you and your folks should have plenty of wood for the winter (if you both have fireplaces or woodstoves).

Neither of us have woodstoves. My trailer is all electric. My parents have a huge fireplace but they haven't used it in years. It's about 2' deep and 4' wide by 3' high. We're just dumping the pieces of the willow in the marsh to rot.
