JIM: Not to worry about IKE hitting me or J.R etc, the storm went up through Chicago and into Canada...1000 miles West of us.....Ike is no threat to us anymore. Now, as for a shop steward, that does not work when one has been married 48 years. I have other techniques that work far better and I don't have those darn Union dues that only feather the bank accounts of the Union bosses.

Time for bed guys, almost midnight here on the East coast,

Yeah, my phone has been ringing off the hook.  I've had several customers down, but the important one is a nursing home that has been bouncing in and out of service for the last couple of days.  When hospitals and nursing homes (and police, fire, etc.) go out of service, all bets are off.  Everything gets moved to the back burner until thats fixed.

Alright everyone.....raiding the fridge at midnight is on me!

The winds got really nasty here and was blowing just the right direction. The tree was already leaning toward the bridge. The winds were around 60 mph when the tree went over.

Evening Gang:

Welcome to Alex and Super Chief n. There are several teens in here as you have seen. Me, I'm about 52+ years past being a teen.

Right now I have a splitting headach. My allergies have been acting up lately. This is the first time in maybe 15 years that they have done that. I'm going to head out and get something for the head.

Jerry and Terry please let us hear from you soon.

Evening, Flo - I'll have a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich, please. Thanks!

Had a longer post written and closed the wrong tab in my browser. Banged Head [banghead] Banged Head [banghead]Sigh [sigh]

Back from the CD pre-release concert, and I'm a little tired but energized at the same time (if that makes any sense).

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Diner, Railfan Alex and Super Chief N! There are several other MRR'ing teens who visit here in the Diner (like MorganSawyer, Packers#1, Colby and others...). They might be able to help you with suggestions on how to say, negotiate with your folks for more trackage rights, or how to get additional MRR funds, or... Wink [;)] Have a beverage of your choice on me - just tell Flo or another of our virtual servers what you need. Oh, yeah, do be careful about hitting the TOP (top of page) - if you do, you get to pay the (virtual) tab for everyone's food and beverage orders on that page (and - besides me, even - there are some real chowhounds in here. Rob, you're making pretty good progress on your work between the workmen's work. Thumbs Up [tup]

Dick, sounds like your shop needs to unionize and get a shop steward, with a supervisor on your schedule like that... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Of course, maybe you could negotiate

Jeff, that tree must have had some soggy roots and/or some nasty winds, to topple over like that.

Looks like the storm is already moving through Indiana and Ohio, and on its way toward Dick, JP and JR. Batten down anything loose, fellas!

Ryan, good to hear that the docs are giving your Dad the Thumbs Up [tup] and setting up his follow-up appointment already. Tell him to keep up the good work! Yeah!! [yeah]

Gav, with the sweet'uns coming back now, I guess we won't be seeing you as much, since you may be 'cat-herding' for a bit...Cowboy [C):-)]

PC, have you been busy with work calls a lot this weekend? Haven't seen you in the Diner as much.

Tom, good to hear that you were able to get out to the layout now that you're moving around better. i know what you mean alex.

well like i said i model n scale. i really don't have an era or anything but i'm about to focus on bnsf and burlington stuff with a super chief on the side. i use modules(still working on my first one.)

also down the line i would like to start to do some freelance modules on a freelance railroad that i'm going to make called the G&K(game and ko) it would be based off of video games and connect to regular modules through a tunnel.

 thats all i think.

super chief n: I mean that the place goes dead for days on end! C'mon, you should know what I mean!

Hello to all, here's a little breakdown of what I do:

I have space for a 2x8 foot swiching layout, but have yet to start constuction. I am saving to fix my camera and buy an airbrush first.

I am a member of a model railroad club (see my sig).

Up until a little while ago, I modeled just about everything, and everything was ok. I have recently decided to choose an era, and railroads to model. I have desided to model CP from 1989 to the present, and also include a fictional shortline, which interchanges with CN/CSX/CP. I have yet to choose exactly where I model, but I have a rough idea: Somewhere south out of Montreal, down into the Eastern Townships, and into the States.

But I'm not too worried about that right now, since I have a limited amount of space to work with. It would be an industrial switching layout, with a Paper Mill as the main industry.

Any other questions, feel free to ask!

Good evening to all...rain this morning, fog and high humidity all day, but IKE passed well to the West of us and up into northern Vermont, NH and Maine and into Quebec later.

I was able to work on a new mountain for my wife's Dept 56 Christmas Village display. I have an HO track running all through the village, total track length is about 75 feet, and it has a 4% grade up into the mountains. This is just a little to overbearing for the smaller locomotives that I use on the layout, so I reduced the grade to a max of 2% today on part of the layout, the rest I will do as time permits, but before Nov. 1st when the wife says it must be scheduled...hmmmm, sounds like a production boss.

I have been using blue 2" foam for the mountains, stacked as high as is appropriate for looks. The hot wire tool works great for slicing into the foam, no mess as you get with saws. The construction is now in the new work area of the former old garage, so now I have a window and a door for ventillation, as well as a floor fan, just to be on the safe side. I am using sculptamold for final touch-up to the cuts for smooth roadbed.

LEE: Thanks for the phone number, I will give them a call on Monday. I looked all over the place on the web and could not find and Beaver animal figures, plenty of other animals though.

GARRY: Yes, I saw later last night and again today that the death numbers have risen abouve 17. Sad [:(] I just don't understand why an Engineer would blow right through the RED signal unless he had a medical emergency, was drunk, or on drugs, or was mad at the world and decided to end it all. Prayers go out to those effected.

DER JOHN: WOW, $40??? You did real good mon ami!!! The wall should come out fine from what you described.

JEFF: That is a shame to lose such a beautiful Willow tree. From the size of what your photos show, it looks like about 60 to 70 years old.

RYAN: Glad to hear that your dad is doing better, he will have some adjustments to make with eating. My son noticed changes after his GB operation. Without bile from the GB, fats do not get handled very well and they tend to "pass through the system" rather quickly after a meal.

Rob: It was there when we moved here in 1970. It was pretty big then too. I would place it at around 60 years, maybe more. I'll be able to come up with an accurate age when it gets cut up. Tree rings don't lie.

***Philip, my studio/workshop is (and always has been) a somewhat bright red, although I can see how in these pics it's difficult to tell. It is being transformed into a proper house, rather than rebuild the entire log home from scratch, which would have cost more than the insurance funds would allow for. The log home was more brown in color. That was the color I wanted my studio to be in when we built it, so it would match the log home and all the out buildings. The wife mistakenly ordered gallons of red paint by mistake, so it has been red ever sinse. Kinda funny, actually. It's just a color and there are more important things in life to me than that..."except in my artwork".Wink [;)]

Here's some photos of the big willow laying on the bridge. The bridge is five feet wide and I'm not sure how long, it's pretty long though.

Here you can see the ripped up roots.

Here I'm at the root ball looking toward the bridge.

Now I'm standing at the boat house looking east toward the bridge. Over 15 feet of the tree is on the bridge.

I had my father (6' 3") stand in front of another willow. It's about 10 feet shorter than the one that fell. Get this! It's leaning over him at a 45 degree angle. Does that give you an idea how big this sucker is?

Tall glass of lemon water, thanks.

Here are a couple pics of the other end of my deck project. Will be back on it sometime tomorrow, after a hay run.

You can see where the future screened porch is in this pic. Will have to replace that center post with two others, so that the storm door can be centered. In the next pic at far left, you can see the priority end of the porch (HDL) which I completed first. Eventually all of this will connect up into one large deck area.

The only severe storm damage that my parents had from the storm was a thirty + foot tall willow got blown over onto a wood bridge going to an island behind their property. From what I can see the railing on the left side of the bridge is smashed. Whether or not the deck is comprimised we don't know yet.

Tropical Storm Ike; current position: 100 NM west of my house.  The winds here have increased to 45 KTS and expected to reach 60 KTS by midnight.  The air temp has gone from 68F to almost 90F.  The Browns and Steelers are playing tonight 11 miles west of my house, so if you're watching the game you just might see my house, LOL.  Hopefully Lake Erie isn't warm enough (72F) to generate any really bad weather.  Lights are flicking so I guess it's my turn to lose power tonight.

Jeff, I like the paint job on the locomotive.

I've been working on the MoW equipment the last 2 days.  One more coat of black on the roofs and they will be ready for decals.  I'm also assembling that 80FT TOFC kit I bought at LHS for $5.99.

Ok I'm on battery power now, more later if I can.

lol.

Sawyer, I actually like the Rio Grande paint scheme too, along with the SP. I grew up around the both of them in San Antonio. It's kind of a wierd story how I ended up modeling the BN, considering I have only seen 1 or 2 BN engines in my life. (A Gp38 in Rochelle, and an SD40-2 somewhere in Idaho or Montana)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Jeff, don't paint over that loco PLEASE! just say the Midland gulf bought it and decided that it was too good of a paint scheme to mess up, so they just put Midland Gulf rwy. in white letters under the rio grande lettering or something.

We might have a future Rio-Grande modeler in the mist.Laugh [(-D]

Yeah, I like it quite a bit. It needed a little repair work inside because it was constanly throwing the rear drive shaft. I fixed that in short order. Amazing what can be done with a little ball of masking tape.
