Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic]On the one hand, it'll be nice to get the money. On the other, it'll be nice just to get it over with!!

Working for our state revenue dept. on the phones, I'm getting a lot of calls about people asking about their rebate check. I have to patiently explain it's coming from the federal government / IRS, not the state, and give them the federal help line no. to get more information (1-800-829-1040). April is usually busy enough already without all these extra calls!! Banged Head [banghead]

We have a lot of "priorities", little things like a baby seat and house maintenance. However, we have agreed that this year we are going to get a fire pit for the back yard..

I am still hoping to squirrel away a little for a blower so I can put together my home made spray booth..

Here in Sweden it's tax time too. But the payments don't start to be delivered until the end of June. Me and the wife will get almost 5000$ back this year which is quite nice for us. Some will be used to put in new floors in the hallways upstairs and downstairs, some will go to fixing the stair in between and some will go to my layout room that is costing me  a LOT to finish properly.

We're combining our stimulus check with part of our tax refund, and will be purchasing a large flat-screen HD television. Fugate videos on a 55" screen. Oh, boy!!

Most of my tax refunds (state, federal, the rebate) are going towards college bills. Some of it will go towards a new airbrush compressor, raw materials for my layout, and racing bits for my car. Autocross season is in full swing, and now I get to balance the budget of two expensive hobbies!

When I actually take mine out of my Post Office lock box it will travel directly to my bank, there to be transmogrified into a short-term CD.  That way, when Sam tells me he wants it back, I'll have it to give him.

Maybe I'll get the Digitrax PR2 programmer so I can get my trolley to stop sounding like an SD45.

OMYGAW, you, too?  Well, I had good news and bad news.  My Central Pacific stock went up,but my Credit Mobilier stock tanked.  It's just no fun being a Robber Baron anymore, LOL!

But I decided the Heck with it, I'm hitting Railroad Hobbies in Roseville with my, er--ah--'incentive' check and just go wild for about a minute and a half.   Mike will love me, of course.

Given the price of brass, you'll be lucky if your, uh, er, "incentive" lasts that long.

Brass??  Oh, buddy, I'm talking about replacement NWSL motors and maybe some Cal-Scale brass parts-- THAT'S how big my 'incentive' check is, LOL!

You shoulda bought Apple stock back before the turn of the century. OTOH, who am I to give you investing advice? I lost a ton of money in the South Sea Bubble. Fortunately, I sold my interest in tulip bulbs before the market crashed.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Regarding China ....... The USA negotisated the China trade deals in the late 1990's, and of course trade with China esculated. BNSF Railway hauls a lot of their stuff from Long Beach / Los Angeles to the midwest. Most of the old Santa Fe line is now double track. We do ship a lot of coal and other products back to them. It looks like investors in China stock went overboard, and Chinse stock markets overheated. The Chinese stock markets have essentially crashed lately with the value of Chinese stock index declining 50% in the past 9 months apporoximately.

That's very close to the truth.  The PRC must own as many or more USD's as the Treasury.

I did my CDN taxes last week.  Straight up, it seemed I owed about $1700.  Then I deducted my allowable expenses and split my income with my wife. (Won't she be surprised when she gets the check? Laugh [(-D]).  Split income and deducting $7200 for an extraction, bone and tissue graft for a ridge augmentation (front upper jaw), titanium implant, coping and crown, I now owe $14.02.  Wife gets a refund of $2700.

Don't worry about it. My grandchildren (not to mention their grandchildren) will be paying for it anyway.

Unless of course, the immense magma chamber under Yellowstone erupts as a super-volcano, in which case it won't matter anyhow (I watch the Science channel waaaaaaay to much). At least the ash cloud and sulfuric acid aerosols will counteract the effects of global warming temporarily and if it's the global catastrophe it could be, the national debt would be meaningless anyway. See, there's a silver lining in every cloud.

I haven't really decided yet what I'm going to do with mine. I'll probably just put it in the bank with the rest of my modest savings and hang onto it for a rainy day. I had thought about using some of it to buy a voice activated R2D2 to add to my robot collection but I doubt I'll do that. The older I get the more of a miser I've become...
