I could picture the setting of the show taking place at the local LHS, Kind of like the old barber shop where everyone goes in not to buy but to catch up on the gossip.
You've got your "Tim" types, "Red Green" and company and of course your Grumpy Old Men Groupies. This is do-able guys!!! And don't forgert the league of anti train spouses.
I'm thinking somewhere in New England

I felt the same about Tracks Ahead. But one day I broke down and bought three 2-tape sets of the show just to see certain layouts within. Lots of fast-forwarding! [(-D]

A tv show? what is wrong with you people?!! [:(!]why have a tv show when you can have a tv station!!!![:D]

there could be a show about steam, modern trains, a show that travels around north america interviewing model railroaders and showing their layouts, one about garden railroads, classic trains, scratchbuilding, and one about indoor model trains that has tips and projects, and during the day there could be shows for kids; like tomas the tank engine, and the Adventures of Bachmann[:p]

we would have to get some big model railroad company like Kalmbach to donate some money though[8D]

After a couple of snide remarks were posted last night I realized it's too bad Mr. Rogers and Captain Kangaroo are gone. They would've made this a show that may have resulted in a kinder and gentler hobby!

DYI has a series on building a model railroad, I think it's 6 episodes long. They only seem to play it between Thanksgiving & Christmas though. If you go on their website it gives the directions for what was on the show, even months later.

The TechTV show Screensavers had a segment on DCC that I don;t think would be too helpful to anyone who didn't already understand DCC.

This just caused me to consider a big reason why this has not (and may never) happened. To produce a MRR show that demonstrates modeling techniques would directly threaten revenues for those companies that sell “how-to” products (books & videos). [:(!]

Unfortunately, (and with apologies to our hosts) there is probably too much money to be made in selling this kind of information for it to be given away for free on a TV show. [|(]

So the internet will continue to be our best hope to freely share the wealth of information about our hobby.[sigh]

Beleiveme, ANYTHING railroad related would be better than the morinc "reality TV" that they have now.
If they want to give some guy a million bucks and have him build a model railroad, now that may be worth watching!

I think it would be a great idea...

Never said it would be a bad thing just expensive!!

Ever see what a "Cherry Bomb" does to a Blue Box kit? I have, no one ever teased me at school either. Blowinfg up model trains in the 70's was cool. Don't worry I'm reformed!

Haha ha ha ha[(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D] YES I HAVE seen what an M80 will do to an Athearn passenger car!

I haven't reformed !!![:-,][:-,][:-,] When I was a kid my favorite shows were Thunderbirds, Speed Racer and the Addams Family, so I grew up addicted to expolsions, and devious thinking, I used to recreate that famous train scene from the Addams Family when I was a young kid. Its amazing any of my old Lionel stuff survived!

That stuff was TOUGH![;)]

THere also used to be a hobby model show that put together ALL kinds of kits. Might as well have some time for the guys that build airplanes & cars. It would be cool to watch the Model AirForce in action.

Another way to develop this kind of show would be to get support from the LHS and the local public access channel.

I have thought about this type a thing for quite a number of years. But I never thought there would be any viability to it.

As for the role of Simon Cowel on this endeavor we have to go no further than Mr. Trains of Thought himself. Tony Keoster.

On a related note. The History Channel aired not long ago an episode of their series called "Modern Marvals" on the topic of models. One of the people they got to comment for the show was Model Railroader's own Terry Thompson. I think he has wonderful Camera Presence and would be a good host for a Model Railroader TV show. Though to be of general interest like the magazine it would have to be an hour long show.

It's on in eastern PA and western NJ. I met the guy who did runs it a few times.

Remote Control Hobbies has done a few segments on trains. I try to catch the first of the show to see if that program happens to be on trains. But, of course, it almost always isn't . But I have seen one program on HGTV about trains. Never seen it again.

I just saw Tracks Ahead this week on the local Louisville PBS channel. A Model Railroad TV series might be a great way to grow our hobby. I'm all for it!

HGTV did a show on fantastic basements. One segment had Mike Ritschdorff's N&W Pokey layout. It was fantastic.

I've seen "Tracks Ahead" - the more recent episodes with Spencer Christian narrating. It's a catch-all train show that covers both real life (1:1) and model railroads. It’s a pretty good show.

I think there would be enough material to cover several seasons of a Model Railroad centric show. Hey, if they can put on oddball shows that cover themes that few people are actually involved with, then model railroading should be a no-brainer!

How about “Trading Layouts”, or “While You Were Out (Train-Fanning)? Now THAT could really be interesting...

Home and Garden TV channel has some hobby show on during the week, don't have cable right now so can't give schedule.
I did watch one where they built some plastic buildings and then did some weathering to make them not fake looking.

that would be cool but you would need enough interest and i don't think many TV stations would want to support that.
