The Berks look good. The video made me air sick. Don't move the camera around so much. Do slow, steady pans.

Obviously between the time he posted the link (12:53 pm) and the time he posted the second time asking for comments (10:01 pm) plenty of people viewed the thread and presumably watched the video.  None of them found it something they cared to commment on.  I-5's second post was one in which he went 'fishing' for compliments.  When you go fishing you never know what you'll catch!

I-5: Post your pictures and links to videos, if people like them then they will respond accordingly.  If they don't like them then what you saw happen, no comments, will happen too.  But when you go asking for comments then be prepared for both the positive and the negative.

Ok, lets see take 2. Use a tripod like JK said and don't move the camera. Let the train roll through the picture. I'd also like to see an overhead shot. One with the whole layout scene. It helps to see what kind of room you are working with. Your train was nice and smooth, that must be a good runner.

I agree with Brunton. Yes, there were some mistakes on the FILMING. However, you can run whatever you want, jktrains. And yeah, no need to sound like it's the end of the world because he messed up the FILMING (not to sound mean, just emphasizing). BTW, I don't like rivet couynters. if you think it is terrible because isn't completly in the right spot or something is running that shouldn't, with me, go jump in a lake. If I like it, I'll run it.

Loathar, The cars are Jonny Lightning(1/64). I use them in the front of scenes to gain some forced perspective. This area is only about 8" deep.(sorry for the cruddy pic, and I've gotta fix the bridge.)

I liked the videoThumbs Up [tup], sure it was out of focusBlush [:I] ,but with modelling you always have to use your imagination, so in this case perhaps it was an amateur journalist recording the fan trip of these two very popular engines with a mixture of passenger cars, ontop of a bus or a moving pickup, that would acount for the shakiness and for the focus maybe the new kids camera isn't the greatest but we all start somewhere, don't worry keep trying you'll get the approval of the rivet counters somedayBow [bow]

This is Weekend Photo FUN.  Comments are discouraged unless they contain congratulatory praise, whether warranted or not, but since YOU asked for comments.

The video is terrible.  It is shakey, out of focus and moves around too much to the point of causing motion sickness.  Your passenger train is all wrong.  You have 2 NKP Berkshires pulling a passenger train containing ATSF heavyweights ( the ones with a red/yellow stripe along the bottom, if I can make it out through the poor focus) and a SP Daylight scheme car - all wrong for the NKP.  Shooting video is much the same as taking photos - use a tripod, have good lighting, have a good subject.  People on this forum have been telling you that for months now and you're still not listening to those recommendations.

You asked, you received.

Most of the week/weekend I was in the furniture building mode (dining chairs and a small stage for a local performing group).  I did make substantial progress on the turntable.

Finished and installed the pit:

Photobucket

Installed the bridge (that's my Columbia 2-4-2 on the bridge; Linn Westcott's USRA 0-6-0 is waiting its turn - yes, it really did belong to Linn Westcott):

Photobucket

I installed the 100:1 gearbox to turn the bridge:

Photobucket

I made a crank and installed shaft and bearings:Photobucket

Now I can turn the crank and take a loco for a spin.  So it was a pretty productive week.  I still have to get power to the bridge rails and to the radial tracks that originate from the turntable.  Then there are structures, scenery, etc. etc, etc.  I love the way every project that ends signals the beginning of something new.

Someday, I'll be painting those brass locos, too.  Well, not Linn's.

Very Nice work. I can already tell that is the big 10 curve. its about 5 miles from my house. You have done a very good job of representing it even without scenery!

Just out past my store there is an access road that goes down by the dam on the bluestone river.  You can get the dam, the trestle or the tunnel that goes to Bramwell.  There is also the old shoot that goes to Pocahontas there.  The yard in Yards, VA is also a good shooting spot.  I actually saw two NS cabooses, with the NS logos on them at that yard last week.  I go to Amonate to the huge trestles there, and the dryfork tunnels.  Stop in my store and I will head you in a few directions.  I may even go, too.  Love shooting trains.

I worked on the farm this weekend.....

Finished my last batch of pines for the hills....

Then my luck went bad. I started to drill holes around the layout for UPC's awaiting my new Lenz system, and realized that the yard was full Oops [oops]Whistling [:-^]

Sort of like the great quake of '08 Big Smile [:D]

At that point, I decided to pack it in and give the garage a good cleaning. It's nice to be able to just shove it outside when I need to....

It's within the decoders limit. I have four BB Athearn's running with DZ125's right now. The stall current of each unit is below 1 amp. The decoders current rating is 1 amp, 2 amps peak. If you're in doubt check the Digitrax website.

Jeff - I believe you on the decoders ratings; that is not the part that I questioned.  If nothing else, you could have saved a little money by using the DH123's!

That's just the point, I didn't want the DH123. I wanted the DZ125. I got what I wanted. You get what you want.Smile [:)]

This week end I installed the backside false roof, the roof vents, the loading dock, foundation walls to raise the dock to boxcar door level,  windows, inside flooring,  in the main machine shop building. This building is 28" long, made by using back wall & roof section moved to the front. False back roof (made from white foam-board painted to match the front roof) & back wall made from cardstock. I still have more flooring, smoke stack, vents, stairs, ect to put on.

I also added window glass & shades to the DPM mill building & primed my next building to be built the Walthers feed mill.

I know the photos are dark....I still have to move some lighting arround. (plus my girls had painted the walls dark when they were teenagers for their "black light")

My new layout, (#4), a bridge-line that takes place in Eastern Missouri, will connect the CB&Q near hiway 79, then west to Hawk Point then south along hiway 47 across the old Wabash / Norfolk & Western RR line near Warrenton thru Missouri Wine Country to connect with MKT near hiway 94. Since this is "my" railroad most places will have the "flavor" of this area but maynot be perfect to the prototype.  Time will be pre Burlington Northern (1970).

The things that will be different on this layout:

#1 This will be a point to point RR built on Hollow-core doors along two walls, so it will be in sections.

#2 It's going to be less track, no yard, no switch machines, open staging, & simple engine service area.

#3 Just a few small towns with one or two sidings.

#4 More open scenery between towns.

#5 Interchange with RR on each end.

#6 Keep everything simple so I can spend more time running then repairing!

I model MKT & CB&Q in Missouri. A MUST SEE LINK: Great photographs from glassplate negatives of St Louis 1914-1917!!!! http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/stlouis/kempland/glassplate.htm Boeing Employee RR Club-St Louis http://www.berrc-stl.com/

I finally got some work done this weekend! My original goal was to patch 90% of my Soo Line fleet to WC (Proto type of course). But I never got around to that. So after taking a look at my Kato SD40, I deiced it needed a bit more work.

My goal is for it to look close to the proto type. Like this:

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=264646

(The number boards on mine will be normal) I added 2 details, a snow plow and a hand brake. The locomotive is far from Finished. I still need to add an All weather window (the full package), snow shields, nose heads lights, a bell where the head lights are now, and ditch lights just to name a few.

Any way this is what the Kato SD40 original looked like:

I didn't like the foot board so I cut that off:

I then cut it flush to the Pilot.

After that I bought a details west snow plow and painted it Black:

While I waited for the paint to dry and dug in my junk box. I found and old intermountain hand brake that was close to the proto type (Not exactly, but I wasn't about to order a hand brake). I painted that grey along with a piece of styrene. When I test fit the Hand Brake it stuck out a little too far. I cut part of the rod off. Then I attached the Hand Brake to the styrene and test fit it one last time to make sure it.

Then I used CA to attach it. Next was the snow plow. I didn't wait to put on the MU cables, air hoses, or ditch lights yet. I will probably regret not doing that first. But owell. Here is the finished product with the details I have added.

This locomotive still has a long way to go. With these few details it turned out nice. But I can wait to see it all done.
