Good day all -

Thanks again for the well wishes. I'm sure we'll need them for the rest of our time here.

As for the heat and humidity - there is no humidity. It's a very dry heat here. Today, we had a nice dust storm for most of the day, which helped to keep the temps down.

Well gang, time for some ice cream for desert.

Take care!

Morning all been a few days but I've been reading just not much to say. Not sure if I told you all of my little problem I had here but its all going to work out found out tuesday to get tags for truck I had to pay personal property tax tthey first quoted $370.00 and I said how much you have this truck valued at as the value on large trucks has drop big time because of the gas and she said $11,600 I said whoa the trade in value is only $4500 and she said go get kelly blue book value for private sale and if its less we'll ajust it well it came out at $7200 so I ended up paying $200.00 and to make things worst for friday I was shorted 16 hours of O.T. out of my pay check and figured out they also didn't give me holiday pay for the 4th the pay period before. So basicly they owe me 16 ot and 8 holiday or 32 hrs of paySmile [:)] add that to my normal 16-20 ot a pay period and its going to be one sweet payday coming up.

Flash good to hear your dad is improving.

Good morning all,

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. West wind between 7 and 15 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. West wind around 11 mph.

Last night I loaded the mainline with the new hopper cars and my challenger and found the challenger is just spinning its wheels.  Not enough traction! So now I need to clean the rubber tires today and clean some track.  I finished one caboose with the LS&W logo and did a coal field weathering job on it (This will be the only real dirty caboose on my line).  I also did a field day on the garage, cut down a dead apple tree in the back yard, and removed the old pavers from alongside the house.

JP, is the humidity still about 8% or have you hit the August 88% humidity?  The hottest I suffered over there was 135F, but I was on the coast.  I'm not sure how hot the sand storms were but they would cook your MRE if you had one in your pocket.  I wish you a safe trip home.

I got "the" phone call Friday asking me to do 10 months in Kuwait again, I said no thanks, we shall see what happens this winter.

Flash, your dad remains in our thoughts and prayers.

Evening Gang: Well the pump has reached it's limit. I added another 50 ft of hose and it didn't have the poop to get the water the last 10 ft in to the pond. I'll reroute the hose to the top of the frack tank dam and then into the normal chanel of the runoff feed to the pond. I'll have to use some 2 inch pipe to make it but it will work I hope. The kids are due back from New Mexico in the early morning so I need to get showered and into bed in case they arrive noisy.

These were interesting cars. They were experimental cars made in 1940 by Pacific Railroad Equipimnet Company. They were called pendulum cars becuase of a unique suspenion sytem. Only three were built.........one each for GN, ATSF,and CB&Q.

GN evenutally rebuilt its car into a conventional looking coach with rectangular windows, and it was pooled with other coaches on secondary, regional trains.

Santa Fe's car was painted in a two-tone gray scheme as were many of their smooth side cars. Santa Fe operated its car on its trains between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Burlington's car was painted aluminum color, and it was named Silver Pendulum. In many of its years it operated in a short train consisting of an aluminum colored gas electric car (doodlebug) and just the one coach. The train traveled between St Joseph, MO and Lincoln, NB via a secondary route.

Good chance!  I'm not sure. It's actually just north of the little burg of Orleans, which is just a little north of Paoli and south of Mitchel, Indiana. The line eventually runs down to the Ohio River in New Albany. It runs North to Bedford, Indiana, then turns west for a while before turrning north again to Terrre Haute.

No0w your gonna make me dig out my SPV...

yep, that's good ol' Monon through Orleans/Mitchell, and up to Bedford. Someone's keeping the history up at least.

Hey, check this out!  I saw something today that I didn't think I'd see any more.  I haven't seen this for MANY years (at least not around here).

I saw (and photographed for proof) working Semiphores on the CSX line just north of Paoli, Indiana!  I haven't seen Semiphores in quite a long time outside of a museum.  Check um out!

Afternoon, Diners - Flo, I think I'll have some of the BBQ pork if there's any left. That and (of course) a root beer float, and could you use that hard-frozen vanilla ice cream that's been in the back freezer this week, please?

Thanks! That might hold up for 30 seconds out in JP's sandbox area. Cool [8D] Here's to you and the rest of your co-workers, JP. Yeah!! [yeah] Bet you won't mind those snowy winters in New York after you get back, huh? Wink [;)] Not to worry about your welcome back party, 'cause when you get back, we'll probably have several bands lined up to play. Thumbs Up [tup]

Oh, MarkPierce - Flo can whip you up any of those delectables you see in the Diner that you want. Nice thing is, these don't put the weight on ya like the stuff on the other side of the 'puter does. Smile [:)] But hey, we're a bunch of chowhounds around here, for that very reason...Whistling [:-^]

Jeff, your power problems sure were puzzling. Hope they can get those transformers & substations fixed/replaced soon, so nothing else goes offline for your power.

Somewhat warm (cool by JP's standards) here today - mid-80's (F) at the moment, and 65 percent humidity. Good afternoon for inside stuff, or for those with basements, going to the train room...

Got talking last night with a woman I've gone out with at two or three separate times in the past, and it looks like she'll be back in town next weekend (from St. Louis). Last night we got talking about getting together for a movie or getting something to eat while she's in town. Strange thing is, we seem to (at varying times) to keep getting back in touch, but I've just not felt like there's much interest on her side (I do prefer that, if I'm going to continue to see a woman). So I'm trying to figure out why she seems to stay in touch, when the times we've gone out, there isn't any sign of a spark from her? No particular teasing or flirting or the usual signs. Almost like she has a SuperDuper Spark Arrestor built-in. Confused [%-)] Puzzling...

I think I'll grab a spot in the corner booth and start on my BBQ and my RBF. Then time to head back home and get some MRR'ing stuff done before suppertime. Prayers for continued healing for those Diners (and loved ones, furry or otherwise) in need of them.

Blessings and a good evening,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good day gang!

Only 4 days and 3.5 hours of work left here for me! Thumbs Up [tup]Yeah!! [yeah] !!!!!

Got some info on our return trip already, and since it's not public knowledge, I could only give the g/f hints. Seems she got them w/out any problems. Also told her that she needs to take off the 8th from both of her jobs as I want to go see my parents at their vacation spot near Lake George. She said that it sounded liek a great idea and that she would do that.

As for here, well, one of the guys took a digital thermometer they use and took the temp off the pavement in front of his office about 6 hours ago... 148.7 The theremometer we have here attached to the building, once it reaches 130, it stops working. Well, about 4 hours ago, it still was not working. About 2 hours ago, it was down to 115. Now, you tell me.. is that HOT enough for you or what?

Well gang, time to get more work done.

Take care!

Hi everyone. Just droppin' in to say hello and tell ya'll a story. My dad had a guy who cuts down trees (he's done it for us before), and he was cutting a forking branch off a tree. Instead of letting us put the ladder under him, he stood on a branch that was kinda on the small side and was a little rotten. well, when he had cut about half through the branch, the small branch he was standing on just snapped almost clean off at the tree. he grabbed the branch he was sawing, lost his grip, and fell about 20 feet! He was fine, though, just scratched up, shook up, and a little bit frightened. When he was falling, he turned about 90 degrees (you've seen buster take some bad falls on mythbusters, right? He'll sorta turn in the air, and not land on his feet. Kinda what Mr. James (the fellow who was cutting down the trees). So let this be a lesson for us all: Don't take huge risks.

Morning, Flo - no, Zoe and Chloe were kidding you, I didn't die or fall off the edge of the planet. Just busy yesterday at work, and talking with a friend on the phone last night (more later on that). Oh, I'll have some waffles,

cup of coffee,

glass of Ed's OJ,

and a glass of milk

to wash things down some more, please. Thank you.

Jeff, that baggage car looks pretty good, but the doors look too new. Might need to weather them a bit more. You are one fast worker, I'll say! Thumbs Up [tup]Bow [bow]

PC, I'd like to see a traffic officer looking for the license plate if he had to write a ticket on that Goodyear 'vehicle'... Might have trouble deciding what to put down for make and model, too. Wink [;)]

Flash, good to hear your Dad's up and talking (mostly) again. Tell him we're pulling for him!

Inch, we only got a little rain here locally, but we had several rather dark clouds come by that looked like they might've been going to dump rain (but didn't). I did hear some thunder last night (Friday)/this morning.

Lee, are you having a competition with Jeff to see who gets the most done? You're gonna shame us slackers (like me) into working harder! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] You're rolling along there with the freight cars on your RIP track, I'd say, Lee.

Uh, and (ahem...)Rob? I'll just say

to go along with the others on getting a certain procedure/test done... (Otherwise, I hear your wife is talking with Vinnie about some... persuasion...) 'Nuff said, right?

Johnboy, awesome story. Thumbs Up [tup]

I'm going to take a break and get back to the next two pages after I finish breakfast. Flo, could I have some more of that fine syrup, please? Thanks!

Good morning.

It's 77 and clear at the moment. It's expected to be partly cloudy later as the high climbs into the upper 90's.

Yesterday was pretty busy. Three fire call-outs in all, one of those was a 6 alarmer. To make it more interesting it was off a back road out in the sticks. A one lane road is a tight squeeze at the best of times but when there are a dozen big fire trucks on it lined up one behind the other it becomes a real circus. Fortunately the roadside had been cleared so the tanker trucks (water carriers) could get to where they were needed. The other two calls, one before the 6 alarmer and one after were simple one truck affairs. The first was a fire in a fence line. It was set off by a bottle rocket. The last call of the day was a fire alarm call from Ameritek Industries on the edge of town. It was a false alarm.

We need rain!
